Maxine Thompson was born on January 17, 1915, in Clarion, the daughter of Lewis and Mabel Thompson Bell. She graduated from the Clarion Schools and then attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines.

  On May 9, 1936, Maxine was united in marriage to Eugene I. Nagle at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Des Moines.

  Maxine joined the Women's Army Corps in 1943 and stayed with them for almost three years. She then lived in Clarion until 1951. She left the First National Bank after working there for 17 years in order to farm southwest of Mason City. She continued farming near Mason City until retiring in 1978. Maxine then moved into town and traveled most of the time.

  Maxine moved to Clear Lake in 1980. Gene died June 5, 1985. On June 12, 1987, she married R. B. Thompson of Belmond. She remained in Belmond until her recent passing.

  Maxine is survived by her husband, Richard; one son, Mark (Beth) Nagle of Des Moines; a stepson, Dudley (Concha Delgado) of El Cerrito, California; and two granddaughters.

  John C. Waller, 87, of West Liberty, died Thursday, January 12, 2006, at the Lone Tree Care Center following an extended illness.

  John C. Waller was born October 29, 1918, in Orchardville, Illinois, the son of Sherman and Cora Vaughn Waller. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. On July 3, 1948, he was united in marriage to Eileen Stratton in Wilton. He had worked at HON Industries in Muscatine for many years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

  Surviving are his wife, Eileen Waller of West Liberty; two daughters, Peggy McElderry and husband, Dan of West Branch and Joyce Stacy and husband, Larry of Stewartville, Minnesota; one son, Darrin Waller and wife, Michelle of Clarion; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Waller of Davenport and Bert Waller of Mendota, Illinois; one sister, June Smith of Ironton, Missouri; two sons by a previous marriage, Gary Walker of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and John Walker of Muscatine.

  Dolly Ione Barnes, 97, of Long Lane, Missouri, died Thursday, January 19, 2006. Funeral services were held on Monday, January 23, 2006.

  A Funeral Mass for Stephen Stork 55, and his three daughters, Tiffany 26, Sondra 24, and Marcie 17 all of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota and formerly of Bancroft, Iowa was held on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the St. John's Catholic Church, Bancroft, Iowa. Burial was in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery.

  Stephen Frederick Stork was born to Frank and Margaret (Ringsdorf) Stork on November 12, 1950, at Boone, Iowa and grew up on his family's farm near Bancroft, Iowa. He graduated from the St. John's High School and then attended Iowa State University. Steve served his country as an Army Tank Commander during the Vietnam War and then returned to Bancroft and began farming. He was united in marriage to Leslie Frohling on July 22, 1978 in Belmond, Iowa.

  Steve loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He loved farming, car racing, and mechanics. He loved people and will be fondly remembered by many for his work with the VFW, the American Legion, and the Pork Producers. Most of all, Steve loved his family. For each day of his life, he was a devoted and caring husband and father.

  On January 23, 2006, Steve died in a fire at his home near Pequot Lakes, Minnesota where his family had moved in 2000. Three of his children, Tiffaney, Sondra, and Marcie also perished in this fire. Steve is survived by his wife, Leslie; a son, Jonathan; and a daughter, Kathleen.

  Also surviving are his parents, Frank and Margaret Stork; six brothers, John (Jennifer), Francis (Susan), Thomas (Julie), Anthony (Sandra), Patrick, and Matthew (Jody); his sister, Rosemary Donahoe (Terry); parents-in-law, Eugene and Ardith Frohling; and a brother-in-law, Gene (Kristi) Frohling.

  Tiffaney Marie Stork was born on August 24, 1979 at Algona, Iowa. She grew up on her parents' farm near Bancroft and graduated from the Buffalo Center High School. Tiffaney then attended Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, graduating in 2003. She was a very social, energetic and creative young woman who loved all children and people and was a great and loving daughter, sister, and friend. She was currently employed at the Bethany Good Samaritan Nursing Home as a Registered Nurses Assistant.

  Sondra Kay Stork was born on February 23, 1981 at Algona, Iowa. She grew up on her parents' farm near Bancroft and graduated from the Woden-Crystal Lake High School. Sondra then attended Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, graduating in 2003. Sondra was a quiet, kind, caring individual and was very artistic. She loved to bake and read and loved her pet cats. She was a great and loving daughter, sister, and friend. Sondra had dreams of going back to college for her teaching degree in History.

  Marcie Elizabeth Stork was born on December 18, 1988 at Algona, Iowa. She grew up on her parents' farm near Bancroft until the family moved to Pequot Lakes, Minnesota in 2000. Marcie was a junior at the Pequot Lakes High School. She was a loving and caring daughter, sister, and friend. Marcie had a great sense of humor. She was very energetic and loved to run and bake, she was her classes' cookie provider. Marcie was an A+ student and her dreams were to be a Math Professor or an Architect.

  Harold Wayne Hiams, age 90, of Rowan, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2006, at the Wright Medical Center.

  Funeral services were held on Monday, January 30, at the United Church of Rowan. Pastor JoAn Skyrme officiated.

  Harold Wayne Hiams, son of Bert A. and Alice (Yoeman) Hiams was born on March 10, 1915 on the family farm near Rowan. He was raised and educated in Rowan, graduating from the Rowan High School in 1934.

  He lived and worked on the family farm his entire life. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed cars and bought a new one regularly. In his later years he enjoyed riding his bike into town and visiting at the post office. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau.

  Harold is survived by one brother, Ray Hiams of Rowan; his twin sister, Hazel Lilleskau of Mason City; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

  Martha Jean Schar, age 94, of Dallas, Texas and formerly of Clarion, passed away Friday, January 27, 2006, at the Walnut Place Nursing Home in Dallas.

  Funeral services for Martha Schar will be held on Friday, February 3, at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Clarion with Pastor Don Morrison officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

  Martha Jean Taylor Schar, daughter of Chester and Eula Taylor, was born on January 23, 1912 in Lake City. She was a graduate of the Clarion High School. On August 26, 1933, she was united in marriage to James Wendell Schar in Clarion.

  Martha was a member of the United Methodist Church, PEO and Eastern Star. She was dedicated to the Lord, her family and friends.

  Survivors include her son, Tom and his wife, Jean of Dallas, Texas; sister, Evalyn DeLoof of Weslaco, Texas; daughter-in-law, Dixie Haney of Emerald Bay, California; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
