• use  AND   NOT  OR  (grouped within parentheses). 
   

• John Smith
  yields all obituaries containing 'John' plus all obituaries 
  containing 'Smith.'  That's a lot of obituaries.
  
   

• John and Smith
  obituaries must contain both 'John' and 'Smith'.  
  That narrows your search.
  
   

• John not Smith
  finds obituaries containing 'John' but will not call  
  an obituary page if it also contains 'Smith'.  
  
   

• Enclose your request in parenthesis refines 
  the search, for example:
  (John not Smith) and Maysville
  finds obituaries containing 'Maysville', plus 'John' but 
  those containing Smith will not be called.
  
   

• John or Smith
  all obituaries containing John Smith will be displayed
  
   

• Use the asterisk * as a wild card, for example
  mon*
  finds obituaries containing words starting with 'mon'  
  The asterisk completes the word.  You will find Monday, 
  Montana, Montell, Monet, etc.
  *ale
  Here you are looking for all words ending in 'ale'.
