A funeral service for Mrs. Trulson was held on Friday, January 18 at the First Lutheran Church of Britt. The Rev. John Meyer officiated. Music was provided by organist, Donna Tech who accompanied soloist, Marlene Smith. Ushers were Reta Klipping and Paul Smith.

  Casketbearers were Chad Trulson, J.R. Gebhart, John Buck, Chris Trulson, Roger Anderson and Klinton Patterson. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Britt. The Ewing Funeral Home of Britt was in charge of the arrangements.

  Violet G. Trulson, the daughter of Chris and Mary Brovold Anderson, was born November 20, 1911, in Ottosen. She received her education in the Ottosen School and graduated from the Ottosen High School. Following graduation, she moved to Britt to help her sister operate the Allison Hotel.

  She was united in marriage with Ted Trulson on October 17, 1931 at the Bethel Baptist Parsonage in Britt. The couple made their home in Britt. Mrs. Trulson was employed as a receptionist for Dr. Camp for many years. She also was employed as a receptionist for the Ewing Funeral Home. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt and the ladies circle.

  Survivors include two sons, David of Britt and Richard and his wife, Pat of Britt; three grandchildren, Jennifer Gebhart and her husband, J.R. of Ankeny, Chad Trulson of Huntsville, Texas and Chris Trulson of Kerrville, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

  A funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, at the First Reformed Church of Meservey, with the Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Burial was in the Meservey Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday, January 18, at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home in Meservey.

  Andrew H. Lauen was born December 11, 1911, on the family farm in rural Meservey, the son of Herman B. and Ida (Statlander) Lauen. He attended country school and graduated from the Meservey High School in 1929. He attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering and returned to the Meservey area, where he worked as a carpenter.

  Andrew was united in marriage with Herma Vierkant on December 2, 1936, at the parsonage of First Reformed Church of Meservey by the Rev. Kampman. The young couple moved to Sunnyvale, California, where he worked as an auto mechanic. They returned to Iowa after two years and he worked for United Motors in Marshalltown.

  After a couple of years there, they moved to a farmstead near Meservey. While on the farm Andrew built all the buildings that are on that farm today. He also began to do plumbing and electrical work. He eventually owned and operated Lauen Electric. He continued with the farming operation and the electrical business until he was 85 years old. He had resided at the Concord Care Center in Garner for the last two years.

  Andrew was a member of the First Reformed Church in Meservey. He served on the Meservey School Board and was a member of the Lions Club as well as a Saddle Club. An active member of his community, Andrew received a plaque recognizing many years of service to Meservey. He enjoyed fishing, swimming, ice-skating and other activities with his family. He also enjoyed time spent with his friends and frequently was found uptown having coffee with them.

  He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Herma Lauen, of Garner; three children, Dean Lauen and wife, Mary of Clear Lake, Dianne Josten and husband, Marv of Garner and Robert Lauen and wife, Sandy of Ventura; seven grandchildren, JoDeane Hafermann and husband, Scott of Goodell, Todd Lauen of Meservey, Anne Lauen of Clear Lake and her fiance, Jeff Beck, Lynne Bovenmeyer and husband, Brian of Garwin, Eric Josten and wife, Staci of Ankeny, Kim Dorenkamp and husband, Erik of Norwalk and Nicholas Lauen of Ventura; three great-grandchildren, Lyndsay, Jeffrey and Samantha Hafermann; brother, Christopher Lauen of Garner; sister-in-law, Edna Lauen of Belmond; and many nieces and nephews.

  Funeral services for Ida Bock were held Monday, January 21, at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Klemme with Pastor Donna Buckman officiating. Music was provided by organist, Diane Stadtlander who accompanied soloist, Lance Arnold. Ushers were Richard Baack and Terry Woiwood.

  Casket bearers were Andrew Jones, Eric Daniel, Mike Carlson, Justin Rule, Jay Duncan and Verlyn Kaduce. Interment was in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme. The Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner, was in charge of the arrangements.
 

  Ida Mae Bock, the daughter of William and Anna (Willig) Bessman, was born May 9, 1919, on a farm near Popejoy. She attended rural school near Popejoy. On February 3, 1942, she was united in marriage to Mitchell John Bock at the United Church of Christ in Alden. They lived east of Klemme where they farmed and raised their family. The couple retired from farming in 1981 and moved into Klemme. In November of 2000, they moved to the Westview Care Center in Britt.

  Mrs. Bock enjoyed baking and cooking for family and friends, crocheting, being a mom and, especially, a grandma. She was an active member of the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ where she belonged to the Women's Fellowship, Dorcas Circle and the Adult Fellowship. She also taught Sunday school, Bible school and was a 4-H Leader. She was honored at Governor Brandstad's Sixth Annual Recognition Conference for her service at the Klemme Elementary School, where for six years, she volunteered time to help with the kindergarten, first and second grades as well as in the library.

  Survivors include her four children, Jim Bock and his wife, Barbara of Fairmont, Minnesota, Joyce Lee and her husband, Dennis of Dayton, Ohio, Jo Duncan and her husband, Royle of Alden and Jean McBreen and her husband, Steven of Ames; eight grandchildren, Laura Bock-Carlson, Susan Bock, Michelle Daniel, Anne Jones, Bethany and Jay Duncan and Justin and Blakely Rule; two great-grandchildren, Eleanor Jones and Harper Daniel; a sister, Margaret Meyer and her husband, Ervin of Latimer; a brother, Harry Bessman of Iowa Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

  Funeral services for Mrs. Harringa were held Monday, January 21, at the Britt Christian Reformed Church, Britt. The Rev. Steve Mulder officiated. Music was provided by pianist, Peg Eisenman who accompanied soloist. Larry Eekhoff and special selections sung by Mrs. Harringa's grandchildren. Bill Eckels and Ken Vanden Hoek ushered.

  Casketbearers were grandsons, Bobby Penning, Gary Peters, Steven Harringa, David Harringa, Larry Eekhoff, Danny Eekhoff, Alan Ruter and Troy Harringa. Honorary casketbearers were Mrs. Harringa's granddaughters. Burial was in the Woden Christian Reformed Church Cemetery. The Ewing Funeral Home of Britt was in charge of the arrangements.

  Lena Harringa was born August 25, 1902, to Bruno and Engelena (Troff) Bruns at Bundee, Germany. On May 6, 1903, the family immigrated to the United States and settled near Titonka, Iowa. She attended rural school. She was a member of the Ramsey Reformed Church, rural Titonka.

  On October 8, 1924 she was married to John Harringa. They lived on the farm North of Ramsey Reformed Church until 1942 when they moved to a farm south east of Woden. In 1948 they moved north of Wesley where they farmed until John's death in October of 1952.

  In 1955, Mrs. Harringa moved to Britt where she was employed in housekeeping at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1967. After her retirement, she cared for elderly people in their homes. Her church was a very important part of her life. She loved gardening and flowers and caring for her home. She enjoyed needlework, crocheting and tatting. In December of 1994, she moved to the Westview Care Center.

  She was blessed with six children, 25 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

  Survivors include all six of her children, Magdalene Penning and her husband, Robert of Algona, Leona Peters and her husband, Harry of Britt, Clarence Harringa and his wife, Marge of Britt, Deloris Eekhoff and her husband, Harlan of Britt, Shirley Ruter and her husband, Byron of Kanawha and Roger and his wife, Gail of Clear Lake. Also surviving are, a sister, Tressie Beenken of Buffalo Center, a sister-in-law, Francis Bruns of Britt and a brother-in-law, Ed Stohr of Garner.

  Her memorial service was held Thursday, January 24, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Msgr. Joseph J. Slepicka officiating. Music was provided by organist, Carolyn Kumsher who accompanied the church choir. Ushers were Robert Kral and Lawrence Engstler.

  Honorary bearers were Eleanor Larkin, Jean Auchampach, Charlene East, Marian Blank, Nancy Tammen, Catherine Mattis, Helen Winter, Sue Whitehurst and Marie Pattison. Burial will be at a later date in the Crystal Township Cemetery in Crystal Lake. The Cataldo Funeral Home of Garner was in charge of the arrangements.

  Phylida Kathryn Gorman, the daughter of Melvern and Emma (Nissen) Scanlan, was born March 15, 1930 at Forest City. She grew up in the Crystal Lake area and graduated from the Crystal Lake High School in 1947. She attended the La James Beauty School in Mason City. On October 16, 1949, she was united in marriage to Walter Gorman. They made their home in Algona, Ventura and Garner for the past 42 years. Mrs. Gorman was employed at Happy ARC as a bus driver, E.F. Johnson in Garner and Rockwell International in Mason City where she retired in 1993.

  She loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed playing cards with family and her special friends, her dog Chloe, quilting, knitting, sporting events and her yearly trips to San Antonio to visit her daughter, Toni. She was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church.

  Survivors include her husband, Walter; three children, Gena Greiman and her husband, Fred of Garner, Pat Gorman and his wife, Sharon of Garner and Toni Gorman of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren, Andrea Greiman of Garner, Brook Stokes and her husband, Charlie of Austin, Texas, Melissa Gorman of Garner, Gail Gouge and her husband, Jeremy of Garner, Jamie Greiman of Ames, Luke Greiman of Garner, Nicole Gorman of Klemme and Kate Gorman of Garner; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Hubbard, Kaden Greiman, Mykenzie Darg, all of Garner; a great-grandchild, baby Gouge, due in July.

  Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Ruth Thilges and Kathryn Gorman both of California; two nieces; a nephew; and several great nieces and nephews.

  Funeral services for Mrs. Landsberg were held Monday, January 28 at the United Methodist Church in Britt with the Revs. Robert Dodge and Larry Vallery officiating. Music was provided by organist, Tammy Johnson who accompanied soloist, John Chambers and a congregational hymn. Ushers were Harry Smith and Dennis Zuehl.

  Honorary bearers were John and Paula Chambers, Amy and Derwin Dornbier and Emily and Chad Stevens. Burial will be at a later date in the Evergreen Cemetery, Britt. The Cataldo Funeral Home, Britt was in charge of the arrangements.

  Mona Lorraine Landsberg, the daughter of Edwin and Martha (Wickersheim) Schmidt, was born March 9, 1915 at Meservey. She graduated from the Belmond High School in 1932 and attended cosmetology school in Des Moines.

  On August 24, 1934, she was united in marriage to Edward Landsberg on the shores of Spirit Lake. They made their home in Belmond for a year and then moved to Britt where Mona was a hair stylist for over 50 years.

  She enjoyed her family, grandchildren, great-grand-children and her friends. She also enjoyed golfing, knitting, doing crossword puzzles, reading, traveling, playing tennis and conducting church services with her husband for the residents of the Westview Care Center in Britt.

  She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Britt, where she was Sunday School Superintendent, taught Sunday School and was active in UMW and the church choir. She also belonged to the Britt Senior Citizens, Rebekah Lodge and was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star.

  She is survived by her two daughters, Dianne Chambers and her husband, Norman of Corwith and Martha Landsberg of Moulton, Iowa; three grandchildren, John Chambers and his wife, Paula and their three children, Nathan, Laura and Stefan, Amy Dornbier and her husband, Derwin and their two children, Sydney and Ryley and Emily Stevens and her husband, Chad; and several nieces and nephews.

  Mrs. Landsberg was preceded in death by her husband, Ed on March 19, 1989; granddaughter, Laura Chambers, May 13, 1989; her parents; and two sisters, Ina Olsen and Nina Dorr.

  Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 29 at the Faith Lutheran Church of West Fargo. Burial was in the Davenport Cemetery, Davenport, North Dakota. The West Funeral Homes of West Fargo was in charge of the arrangements.

  Edna I. (Meszaros) Berg was born September 27, 1912, in Davenport, North Dakota, where she grew up and attended school. She married Floyd R. Berg on June 6, 1935 at Moorhead, Minnesota.

  The couple moved to West Fargo in 1941. Mrs. Berg began working at Potter's Cafe and later at the Red Owl Grocery store, both of West Fargo. She also helped open and worked at the first Dairy Queen store in West Fargo and later was employed for several years at the West Fargo Schools as a cook until retiring in 1974. After retirement, she was self-employed doing alterations and sewing out of her home.

  She is survived by a son, Robert of Fargo; a daughter, Joanne Rheault of West Fargo; three grandchildren, Timothy Berg of Fargo, Tammy Askew of West Fargo and Carman (Dennis) Ostrem of Garner; and three great-grandchildren.

  Donald Matthew Hilbert was born at Algona on May 28, 1938, the son of Ted and Bernadine (Plathe) Hilbert. "Shiney" received his education in the St. Joseph schools, then was self employed hauling gravel. He later worked for Bituminous Material and Supply, driving truck. He and his brother were partners in the cattle business from 1971 to 1995. At that time, Shiney went back to work driving truck for Milligan Brothers at Baxter, and he continued to work there until his death.

  Shiney was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph. He enjoyed working in the outdoors with flowers, mowing and yard work. His greatest love was racing, a hobby he and his son, Greg shared for many years. Shiney also took great pride in his 18-wheeler, and he enjoyed his job and driving.
