HAMPTON - Geraldine Ruth Blankenship, 95, of Hampton, died Tuesday (Dec. 30, 2008) at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.
    Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hampton United Methodist Church in Hampton with the Rev. Dr. Edward R. Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.
    Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.

Daniel Crossley

OTTUMWA - Daniel Lynn Crossley, 57, of Mason City, formerly of Ottumwa, died Monday (Dec. 29, 2008) at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.
    Dan was born April 21, 1951, in Ottumwa to Marion and Martha Potter Crossley. He married the love of his life, Trudy Carlson, in Galesburg, Ill.
    They raised their family in Oquawka, Ill., and lived there until moving to Mason City. Dan was a graduate of Ottumwa High School and Iowa State University.
    Dan loved sports of all kinds, especially the Iowa State Cyclones, and Chicago Bulls, Bears and Cubs. Dan and his wife loved going to the drag races and cruising in their T-Bird.
    Dan's first job after graduating from ISU was with Maytag in Galesburg, Ill., as a general foreman, where he worked for 32 years. After Maytag's closure in 2004, Dan was hired as a supervisor for Cummins-Fleetguard in Lake Mills, where he worked until his death.
    Dan was a loving husband, dad and grandfather. "PaPa" will be missed by his family, especially his granddaughters.
    Surviving is his wife, Trudy Crossley, of Mason City; three daughters, the Rev. Jody and her husband, Cody Lewis, of Pflugerville, Texas; Alissa and her husband, Clifford Sexton, of Mason City, and Amanda and her husband, Andy Schneider, of Monmouth, Ill.; three granddaughters, Lauren and Hannah Lewis, Rylee Sexton; and his father, Marion Crossley of Waterloo.
    He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Crossley.
    Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home, 607 E. Second St. in Ottumwa, with his daughter, the Rev. Jody Lewis, officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.
    Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

ALGONA - Helen Finnegan, 69, of Algona, died Monday (Dec. 29, 2008) at the Good Samaritan Society- Algona.
    Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona with Father Ed Girres officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Arthur J. Smith

BURNSVILLE, Minn. -Arthur J Smith, 84, of Burnsville, Minn., passed away peacefully Tuesday (Dec. 30, 2008). He was born March 13, 1924, in Minneapolis, Minn.
    Preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Photini Smith; brothers, Nicholas, George and Constantine; and sisters, Cleopatra (Stamas) and Panayiota (McHorse).
    Survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Helen Smith (n�e Mellas) of Dayton Ohio; also survived by children, Florence Hebert (Patrick), Arthur Jr., James (Maria Eugenia), and Maria; grandchildren, Samuel Hebert, Hayley Hebert, Ana Elena Smith and Elias Arthur Smith; his brother, Peter, along with numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews ? all of whom he loved dearly.
    Art was born and raised in Minneapolis and enlisted in armed forces in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy six years (CPhMA) including time spent in the Pacific Theater of Operation during World War II, where in 1944 he participated in the initial landings of troops at Guam and Peleliu.
    After the service he studied at the University of Minnesota, then took a job in the pharmaceutical industry. In 1954 he moved to Mason City, Iowa, where he and Helen settled after their marriage and started work for Wyeth Laboratories as a territory manager.
    While in Mason City, Art was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church, in which he served numerous positions including parish council president. He was also an active participant and leader in the Boy Scouts, Little League, North Central Iowa Retriever Club and other organizations.
    He enjoyed hunting, fishing, stamp collecting, training hunting dogs, woodworking, tennis, Twins and Vikings games, travel and anything that involved his family.
    In 1986, he moved to Burnsville, Minn., where he retired in 1992 as a district sales manager after 38 years with Wyeth.
    Art spent his retirement years enjoying his hobbies, friends and family. He was a husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, father-in-law, grandfather, boss, co-worker, mentor, neighbor and friend ? all without peer; a vital and emphatic person who was loved and respected, and who will be sorely missed.
    Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis. Interment will be at Fort Snelling.
    Visitation will begin 5 p.m. Sunday with Trisagion at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis.

Dorothy A. Basgall

MASON CITY - Dorothy A. Basgall, 77, of Mason City died Thursday (Jan. 1, 2009) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
    A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E. in Mason City, with the Rev. Craig Steimel officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery.
    Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.
    Memorials may be directed to the North Iowa Humane Society in celebration of her dog, Alphie, who brought great joy and comfort following Joe's death, or Hospice of North Iowa.
    Dorothy was born April 6, 1931, to Silas and Elma (Jenkins) Edwards in Fertile. She grew up in the Kensett and Manly area, attending school primarily at Manly. During her high school years she was a forward on the girls' basketball team.
    She had fond memories of the year they played in the girl's state basketball tournament. She was also prom queen during her junior year. She worked at J.C. Penny for 23 years, managing the shoe department and later working in the men's department.
    In 1984 she converted to Catholicism and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mason City.
    She married Joseph John Basgall on Sept. 9, 1949, in Glenville, Minn. Joe preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1988. Dorothy and Joe loved to travel and made several trips to California to visit Joe's daughter, Diane, and brother, Jake. Prior to Joe's death in 1988, the couple was planning a California coastal drive to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.
    Dorothy had a love for life and worked hard at not taking herself too seriously. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh with family and friends, which was evident throughout her courageous battle with cancer this past year.
    She was an avid walker, golfer, bowler, card player, and bingo player. Most days she would fit in two or more of these activities. Those that knew her know that she did not know the meaning of the word "moderation." She participated in the Run, Walk and Wag for cure along with her daughter, Vickey, granddaughter, Billie, and granddog, Truffle, in June 2008. She had a love of coffee and chocolate and no day was complete until she had each one.
    Left to cherish her memory are her children, David Basgall of Mason City, and Vickey Basgall of Mason City; her brother, Arlyn "Tuppy" Edwards of Mason City; her stepdaughter, Diane (Ray) Reynolds of Newhall, Calif.; grandchildren, Billie (Jimmy) Dalgish of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Tracy Starkey of Fort Wayne, Ind., Jeffrey Basgall of Fort Wayne, Ind., Michael (Amelia) Basgall of St. Cloud, Minn., and Robin (Roger) Douglas of Summerville, S.C.; five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Basgall in 1988; parents, Silas and Elma Edwards; and an infant brother.

Marie Louise Fletcher-Virnig

MASON CITY - Marie Louise Fletcher-Virnig, 58, of Mason City died Tuesday (Dec. 30, 2008) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
    A memorial service for Marie will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Inurnment will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.
    Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Monday at the chapel.
    According to her wishes, cremation has taken place.
    Marie Louise Fletcher-Virnig was born on April 13, 1950, in Mason City, the daughter of Carl and Helen (Krivohlavy) Abendroth. She attended and received her education in the Mason City schools.
    She was united in marriage to William Charles Fletcher in 1985 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She was united in marriage to Adrian Virnig; he preceded her in death in December 2006.
    Marie loved doing crafts, working at Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, doing needlepoint and bead work, but her great love and enjoyment was being a good mother.
    Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Josh (Kayla) Fletcher of Mason City; a granddaughter, Jade Fletcher of Mason City; a step-daughter, Leslie Virnig of Mason City; a twin sister, Mary (Boyd) LaRue of Mesquite, Nev.; a brother, Howard (Sharon) Abendroth of Lake Mills; her former husband and good friend, William Fletcher of Mason City; a close cousin, Brenda Treslan of Mason City; her family and a special friend, Joellen Hanzlirk; as well as other extended family members and friends.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, second husband, Adrian Virnig; and her brother, Harold Abendroth.

Eleanor MacMillan

URBANA, Ill. - Eleanor Maxine Brown MacMillan, 90, formerly of Mason City, passed away after a stroke on Dec. 17, 2008, at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, Ill.
    While Eleanor lived in Urbana for the past five years, she spent most of her life in Iowa. She was born on June 29, 1918, to Arthur E. and Pearl Troester Brown in Millville Township, near Guttenberg.
    She graduated in 1935 from Guttenberg High School as valedictorian of her class. She received a teaching certificate from Iowa State Teacher's College and a B.A. from the State College of Iowa (now the University of Northern Iowa). At the beginning of her career, she taught in Andrew. She later taught in Castalia and went on to teach for 23 years at Hoover Elementary School in Mason City, before retiring in 1982.
    Eleanor devoted herself to family. She married Harlan Smith MacMillan on Feb. 6, 1938. Over the years, the couple enjoyed a shared faith in God, long walks, gardening, and traveling together. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary before Harlan passed away in 2001.
    Eleanor was a lifelong learner and an inspiration to all of her family. She was the family historian and archivist, keeping detailed records and written descriptions of family events. She had a deep faith and conveyed that to her family by her actions and deeds.
    She had been a member of First Covenant Church in Mason City for more than 25 years. While living in Urbana, Ill., she was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
    She was a life member of the National Education Association and a past member of the Iowa State Education Association and the Mason City Education Association.
    Surviving are two daughters and a son, Mary Muller and her husband, Glenn, of Urbana, Ill., Susan Anderson and her husband, Kendall, of Bloomington, Minn., and Dr. David MacMillan and his wife, Barbara, of Osprey, Fla. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Carol Willingham and her husband, Doug, of Salado, Texas., Catherine Simon and her husband, Randy, of Winterset, Charles Meyer and his wife, Janell, of Postville, George Meyer and his wife, Suzanne, of New Prague, Minn., Christopher MacMillan of Orlando, Fla., Meredith Dendinger and her husband, Mark, of Simsbury, Conn., Elizabeth Muller of Ithaca, N.Y., and Sarah Muller of New York City. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren: Brett Anderson, Conrad, Elliott, and Reuben Meyer, Vincent and Wyatt Meyer, Jack and Max Dendinger and Rowan MacMillan; two sisters: Helen King and husband, Jay, of Meriden, Conn., and Dorothy Small, and husband, George, of Wapello.
    She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Harlan.
    A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, at First Presbyterian Church in Urbana, Ill. A family memorial service and burial will be held at a later date in Mason City.

Lois Elaine Meier

SWALEDALE - Lois Elaine Meier, 77, of Swaledale, died Thursday (Jan. 1, 2009) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City surrounded by her family.
    A funeral service for Lois will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at the Evangelical Free Church, 1310 Highway 18 W., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dan Jordan officiating. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Swaledale.
    Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church.
    Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements.
    Lois Elaine Meier was born on July 6, 1931, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Charles and Elsie (Pals) Rickard. Lois was baptized in Clear Lake and attended and received her education in the Clear Lake Community Schools, graduating from Clear Lake High School in 1949.
    She was united in marriage to Martin Meier on Oct. 15, 1950, in Clear Lake. After their marriage together, Lois and Martin farmed near Swaledale.
    Lois enjoyed collecting stamps, bird watching, sewing, and knitting, but Lois's great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren. Lois loved to attend all of her grandchildren's school activities.
    Church was very important to Lois and she was very active and a charter member of the Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake, where she taught Sunday school for more than 50 years.
    Lois was also a member of the Women's Missionary Society and the White Cross at the church, sang in the church choir, and was active in the stamp ministry at the church.
    Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Martin Meier of Swaledale; her children, LaRee (Neal) Manson of Marathon, Wis., Brad (Rachel) Meier of Swaledale, LaDonna Woodford of Brooklyn Center, Minn., Greg (Julie) Meier of Swaledale, and LaVon Regnier of East Bethel, Minn.; 12 grandchildren: Stacey, Lisa, Joel, Christina, Amy, Anna, Sarah, Cari, Andy, Chelsy, Shealyn and Jackson; 20 great-grandchildren; as well as other extended family members and friends.
    Lois was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Jean Barnes.

Peggy L. Miller

AUSTIN, Minn. - Peggy L. Miller, 60, of Austin died Wednesday (Dec. 31, 2008) at Austin Medical Center, Austin.
    There will be no services at this time. Interment will take place at a later date at the Hampton Cemetery, Hampton.

Robert Dale Rush

MASON CITY - Robert Dale Rush, 85, of Mason City died Wednesday (Dec. 31, 2008) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.
    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at the First Assembly of God Church, 1301 N. Carolina Ave., with Pastor Clyde Harvey officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors performed by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.
    Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in Mason City.
    Memorials may be directed to the Robert D. Rush Memorial Fund.
    Robert was born Dec. 28, 1923, in Mason City, the son of Charles and Grace (Stewart) Rush. He attended Mason City schools. He joined the Marines in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He served during World War II and was on Iwo Jima.
    Robert married Charlotte Bull on June 14, 1946. He was employed by Interstate Power Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1986.
    Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Charlotte Rush; two sons, Robert and wife, Phyllis, and Kurt and wife, Kathy; three grandsons, Kelly and wife, Michelle, Aaron and Jordan; and three great-grandchildren, Taia, Kaitlyn and Kourtney; and one sister, Marion.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; a stillborn son, Kevin; daughter, Virginia Rush; and his brothers and sisters.

MASON CITY - Dennis Allen Smith, 60, of Mason City died Wednesday (Dec. 31, 2008) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

    Denny was born in Mason City on Sept. 9, 1948, to George and Clara Mae (Arndt) Smith. He was united in marriage to Twila Laird on Sept. 20, 1969, in Humboldt. The couple resided in Mason City. Denny was employed by Holcim Cement Plant for 33 years and he also enjoyed shingling in his spare time.
    He was always willing to help a friend in need and always, always, with a smile. No matter what bridges had to be crossed, Denny always had a smile. Denny enjoyed fishing, bowling, pool and watching his children and grandchildren during all their activities and sports.
    Everyday coffee-clutchers at Pros were one of his favorites, as wells as spending time at the casinos. He mostly looked forward to his annual fishing trip with buddies.
    Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Twila; daughter, Michelle (Jeff) Cordle and son, Troy Smith, all of Mason City; grandchildren, Alex and Ashley Cordle of Mason City and Dustin Smith of Urbana, Iowa; sisters, Shirley (Bill) Paulsen of Green Isle, Minn., and Sandra Crotty of Mason City; brother, Jerry Smith of Mason City; mother-in-law, Minnie Laird of Spencer; sisters-in-law, Pam (Gardner) Fuy of Spencer, Carolyn (Smith) Lane of Mason City, Helen Smith of Mason City, Linda Smith of Northwood and Lyla Jo (Wayne) Burich of Beloit, Wis.; brothers-in-law, Butch Laird of Des Moines and Gary (Sharon) Gould of Henderson, Nev.; several nieces and nephews and many good friends.

Roger William Weitze

NORA SPRINGS - Roger William Weitze, 91, of 13411 Ridgeview Drive, Urbandale, Iowa, died Thursday (Jan. 1, 2009) at the Karen Acres Care Center, Urbandale.
    A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at First United Methodist Church, 202 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, with Pastor Jim Turner officiating. According to his wishes, Roger will be cremated after the funeral service and an inurnment will take place at a later date.
    Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs.
    Roger was born July 17, 1917, in Nora Springs, the son of Harry B. and Agnes E. (Roethke) Weitze. He graduated from Rock Falls High School in 1935 and married Helen (Gerdes) on April 29, 1944, in Mason City. To this union three children were born.
    Roger was involved in farming and other agricultural related jobs until he retired in 1987 and he and Helen moved into Nora Springs, they had been living on the family farm.
    Roger enjoyed raising a variety of animals and hunting. He also traveled a great deal, visiting 48 out of the 50 states. Roger would also go to the senior center for meals and to play cards, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
    He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Nora Springs, where he would usher and had taught Sunday school for many years.
    He is survived by his daughter, Marlene (Harold) Albertson of Urbandale; his son, Ronald (Jane) Weitze of Highland Heights, Ky.; his grandchildren, Tracy Hughes of Van Meter, Bradly (Melissa) Albertson of Altoona, Troy (Alicia) Albertson of Pleasant Hill, Sarah (Travis) Holman of Danville, Ky., and Andrew Weitze of Lansing, Mich.; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Florence Gratias of Nora Springs; and many nieces and nephews.
    Roger was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Phyllis Weitze; and his brother, Ervin Weitze.

Pamela Kay Lemke was born Feb. 7, 1946, in Mason City, the daughter of Clarence and Pearl (Neuberger) Lemke. She graduated from Klemme High School in 1964. Pam moved to Des Moines to work for an insurance company and later worked for Meredith Publishing Co. In the fall of 1966 Pam moved to Clear Lake.

Pam was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Christiansen on Feb. 25, 1967, at the United Methodist Church, Klemme. She worked for the city of Clear Lake as an assistant city clerk. Pam worked for Futures Management Corp. of Iowa for several years as a corporate treasurer. Pam was the office manager for WHY USA Realty for a few years and later the office manager for Anchor Realty, retiring in February 2008.

Pam enjoyed motorcycles, classic cars, was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and a huge Neil Diamond fan. Pam and Bob enjoyed wintering south to Florida and Arizona. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, North Iowa Road Riders and the Clear Lake Auto Social Society.

Pam is survived by her husband, Bob Christiansen, Clear Lake; brother-in-law, David (Alice) Christiansen, Clear Lake; and sister-in-law, Doneta Pedelty, Clear Lake; aunt, Frances Neuberger, Garner; nieces and nephews, Anne (Finn) Bullers, Prairie Village, Kan., Tina Christiansen, La Vista, Neb., Kristi Sly, Altoona, Kimberly (Alan) Bernhard, Bancroft, Shelley (Michael) Phelps, Lone Rock; great-nieces and nephews, Christian and Alora Bullers, Benjamin Christiansen, Cora Jane Sly, Luke and Joshua Bernhard, Tatum, Thor and Tenille Phelps; along with numerous cousins and other relatives and friends.

Tillman Kermith Christianson was born on March 24, 1922, to Owen C. and Bertina (Brelseth) Christianson in Hartland Township, Worth County. He was baptized and confirmed at Silver Lake Lutheran Church in rural Northwood. He attended Hartland No. 1 country school and graduated from Northwood High School. On Oct. 6, 1946, he was united in marriage to Clarice Marjorie Anderson at the Scarville Lutheran Church parsonage. The couple farmed in rural Hartland Township. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Northwood and was a past member of Silver Lake Lutheran Church in rural Northwood. Tillman retired from farming in 1996 and move into Northwood. He worked at ACT and later at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents Owen and Bertina Christianson.

Tillman is survived by his wife, Clarice; two sons: Tom (Kathy) Christianson and Ron (Linda) Christianson; grandchildren, Tim (Sara) Christianson, Kim (Heath) Merz and Erin (Phil) Bubb and one great-grandson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard (Joyce) Anderson and Robert (Leona) Anderson; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alfa V. Nickerson

Clear Lake - Alfa V. Nickerson, 87, of 13713 Indigo Ave., Clear Lake, died Thursday (Jan. 1, 2009) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, from a massive stroke surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Galilean Lutheran Church, 4454 255th St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jeff Ungs officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan 5, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Alfa was born Nov. 24, 1921, in Coulter, the daughter of Chris and Ingeborg (Strandskov) Jaspersen. She attended school in Coulter,and helped take care of her brothers and sisters. She later worked in a caf� and also for Dr. Brownstone.

Alfa married Walter Nickerson Dec. 10, 1944, at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. They lived on a farm south of Clear Lake. Alfa worked out of her home during the 1960s and then for the Furleigh Fruit and Vegetable Farm from the 1980s to the present.

Alfa enjoyed knitting, making afghans and blankets, playing cards, dancing at the Surf, music, watching birds and was an avid fan of the Twins, Vikings and Hawkeyes. She loved to do word puzzles and watch TV. She thoroughly enjoyed watching her son and two grandchildren show sheep at the fair. One of her fondest memories was in 2004, their trip to Washington, D.C., to see the World War II Veterans Monument.

Alfa was a member of Galilean Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, and the Rural Lakettes Club and Oweso Clubs.

Alfa is survived by her children Charlene Gillman and her husband, Leroy, of Winterset, and Allen Nickerson and his wife, Sue, of Clear Lake; four grandchildren: Todd Gillman and his wife, Barb, Garland, Texas, Sheri Monroe and her husband, Galen, Little Rock, Ark., Andrew Nickerson, Mason City, and Katy Nickerson and friend, Will Lubkeman, Clear Lake; great-grandchildren, Bethany, Jason, Alex, George and Genny Gillman; brothers, Ervin Jaspersen, Des Moines, Harold (Viola) Jaspersen, Thornton, Arlo (June) Jaspersen, Albert Lea, Minn., Herluf Jaspersen, Peculiar, Mo., and Earl (Sharlene) Jaspersen, Garner; sisters, Verna (Roy) Smeby, Joice and Esther Gilbertson, Billings, Mont.; sister-in-law, Marlys Jaspersen, Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

James M. "Jim" Ryburn Jr.

James Monroe Ryburn Jr., the son of James and Emma (Hinrich) Ryburn, was born Oct. 5, 1927, at Rockwell. He graduated from Rockwell High School in 1945 and served his country during World War II in the Navy. On May 22, 1949, he married Shirley Ann Hoover at Stilson. They farmed northwest of Britt until 1965 when they moved into Britt. Jim had worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City and was the caretaker at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt for a time. Jim also was a bus driver for the West Hancock School District and for Hancock County Transit.

Jim loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed working with wood, playing 65, fishing, gardening, collecting caps and hats and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt, the Britt American Legion and the IOOF Lodge.

Jim is survived by his five children and their families, Robert Ryburn of Texas and his twin daughters, Maribell and Frances, both of Texas, Cindy (Ted) Kopacek of Maple Grove, Minn., and their daughter, Heidi Kopacek of Minneapolis, Minn., Mark Ryburn of Bloomington, Minn., and his daughter, Desirae (Michael) Lowell of Forest City and their two children, Nora and Michael, Christy (Darryl) Dehn of Maple Grove, Minn., and their two sons, A.J. and Tyler, both at home, and Chad (Christi) Ryburn of New Prague, Minn., and their six children, Julianna, James, Rebecca, Matthew, Savannah and Luke, all at home; a sister, Marjorie Sturges of Mason City; and a sister-in-law, Jackie (Paul) MacVey of Ames.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at the First Assembly of God Church, 1301 N. Carolina Ave., Mason City, with her son, Pastor Joseph West, officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 4, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.

Memorials may be directed to the First Assembly of God Church, Mason City.

Luella Perkins was born Nov. 13, 1919, in Sioux County, N.D., the daughter of Lewis Jesse and Belle Riley (Lovitt) Perkins.

Luella was a beloved wife and mother. She spent her busy years raising 10 children. She endeavored to set an example of her Christian faith for them to follow. She spent her later years loving and enjoying her grandchildren, always remembering to save her coins in jars for special gifts for them. With each new great-grandchild her joy increased. They were a delight to her and she loved watching her family grow. Luella loved and looked forward to family gatherings. She enjoyed writing letters and sending cards of encouragement to others. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a faithful member of First Assembly of God Church, Mason City. She then became a faithful member of the church her son pastors in Downers Grove, Ill.

Luella is survived by her children, Althea and husband, Craig Hensel, of West Chicago, Ill., Robert (Fran) West of Kissimmee, Fla., George (Debbie) West of Bolingbrook, Ill., Joseph (Sharon) West of Downers Grove, Ill., Charlie (Marie) West of La Crosse, Wis., Virgil West of Mason City, and Richard (Joan) West of Crystal, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Charlene West, Cedar Falls; 21 grandchildren, Kenneth, Larry, Nick, Charlie, Teresa, Angel, Tracey, Amy, Matthew, Joel, Adam, Mac (Richard), Mandi, Luke, James, Amber, Jared, Josh, Fran, Patty, Lori; 22 great-grandchildren, Kenneth, Jim, Shawn, Steve, Scott, Sammy, Anna Kate, Gabriel, Cyrus, Luella Jane, Boston, Britton, Holly, Kelly, Ashley, Alexander, Cory, Kevin, Kayla, Virginia and Melanie; along with other relatives and friends. Luella Jane West left behind a legacy of love and forgiveness. She is already missed so much by her loving family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, and sons, Jim and Kenneth, Jr.

Audrey Anne Young

MASON CITY - Audrey Anne Young, 31, of Mason City, died Friday (Jan. 2, 2009) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral service for Audrey will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Rolling Acres Free Methodist Church, 604 23rd St. S.W., Mason City, with the Rev. Larry E. Day officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 122 W., Mason City.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Audrey Anne Young Memorial Fund.

Audrey Anne Young was born Nov. 24, 1977, in Iowa City, the daughter of Kim (Young) Kuecken and Lynn Lumley. She attended and received her education in the Mason City Schools, graduating from Mason City High School. Audrey also graduated from Hamilton College. During her life Audrey worked for Kingland Industries.

Audrey enjoyed animals, especially her Siamese cats, camping and swimming, but Audrey's main focus was being a mother and the center of her life was her son, Wade, and spending time with him.

Those that are left to cherish her memory are her son, Wade Hutzell of Mason City; her mother and father, Kim Kuecken of Mason City and Lynn Lumley of Hampton; her brothers, Luke Heilskov of Mason City and Dan Lumley of Ames; her grandmother, Barbara Herrera of Joplin, Mo.; a niece, Brooklynn Heilskov of Mason City; numerous aunts and uncles; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grand parents and great-grandparents.

IOWA FALLS - Everett Hadwiger, 89, of Iowa Falls, died Saturday (Jan. 3, 2009) at the Heritage Care Center, Iowa Falls.
    Funeral services for Everett Hadwiger will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, with the Rev. Kenneth Krueger officiating. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls.

June Hagie

CLARION - June Hagie passed away on Jan. 3, 2009, in Clarion, Iowa. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at the UCC- Congregational Church in Clarion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the charity of your choice or the Wright Medical Foundation at 1316 S. Main St., Clarion, IA 50525.
    She was born on June 25, 1913, at Rainy Lake, Ontario, Canada, to Boyd Scott and Grace (Wood) Remington.
    June's father, a free-lance civil engineer, frequently moved his young family to numerous jobs sites throughout the western United States. This resulted in June attending 22 schools before returning to her father's native Iowa. After graduating from Ames High School in 1931 she entered Iowa State College to major in child development. While there, she met Raymond Hagie whom she married after her graduation in 1935.
    Ray and June moved to the original Hagie family farm four and a half miles southwest of Clarion, where Ray was farming with his father and starting a hybrid seed corn business.
June quickly adapted to farm life and became involved in county Extension work and was a dedicated 4-H leader. She was very active in P.E.O., numerous other community organizations and a charter member of the Clarion Chapter of AAUW. As a longtime member of the UCC-Congregational Church she, along with other church members, established the Meals-On-Wheels program and child care for pre-school children.
    In addition to community involvement, June was an avid bridge player and enjoyed golf and world travel. After retirement, Ray and June spent winters in Arizona until they moved to Ames, Iowa, in 1994. In 2005 they moved to The Meadows in Clarion where they lived until Ray died after 71 years of marriage.
    June is survived by a son, John (Barb) Hagie of Clarion, daughter, Margaret (Frank) Severino of Des Moines and a son-in-law, Ted West, of Chicago; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
June was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; a sister, Mary Zelenik; and a daughter, Kathryn West.

IOWA FALLS - Thelma Williams, 96, of Iowa Falls, died Saturday (Jan. 3, 2009) at Scenic Manor, Iowa Falls.
    Funeral services for Thelma Williams will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at the First Christian Church, Iowa Falls, with Pastor T. J. Norman officiating.
Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls.
