Marvin Dwain Schinagel
was born Sept. 22, 1917,
on the family farm near
Chapin, Iowa, the son of
George Leonard and Clara
(Hooker) Schinagel.
Dwain attended Chapin
Schools where he was
active in athletics
including basketball and
baseball. He graduated
from Chapin High School
in the class of 1935.
Following his education,
he began his lifelong
career as a farmer. He
loved to work the land
and care for his
livestock, enjoying the
bounties of his hard
work.
Dwain was united in
marriage to Maude
Lickweg, May 27, 1945,
at the Lutheran Church
Parsonage, Hudson, Iowa.
The couple were blessed
with two sons and one
daughter, Roger, Gary
and Evelyn.
Dwain and Maude were
partners in life and the
farming operation. They
were the best of friends
and usually when you saw
the couple they were
together.
Dwain was a man who
loved people and
received great personal
satisfaction from
putting their needs
before those of his own.
He loved times spent
with his wife and
children and looked
forward to family
gatherings. He was truly
a handyman who could fix
nearly anything that was
put before him. His
children appreciated

assistance they could
always count on Dad to
help them out.
Dwain was a very
civic-minded person
throughout his life. He
had been a longtime
trustee for Ross
Township and had served
for a time as chairman
of the trustees. He had
also served as president
of the Chapin Elevator
for 17 of his 21 years
on the board. Dwain had
been involved in Area
Community Commonwealth,
Chapin Area Promoters,
the Wayside Cemetery
Board, and with the
Chapin Community
Betterment, where he had
received awards in
recognition of his
efforts from Iowa
Governor Robert Ray. He
had served for a time on
the Sheffield Care
Center Board as well.
Dwain was a member of
the Chapin
Congregational Church
for a time and then
joined Zion St. John
Lutheran Church in
Sheffield following his
marriage.
He had been active on
the church council and
served as a funeral
usher for many years.
In addition to his
farming career, Dwain
was a longtime dealer
for Red Giant Oil.
Dwain enjoyed collecting
and tinkering with
antique gas engines.
Favorite pastimes also
included times spent
with his family working
in the sawmill,
attending steam engine
power shows with his
wife Maude, and the
devoted companionship of
his dog, Sam.
Those left to cherish
the memory of his life
include his wife and
partner in life of

Billajean May Collins
was born Jan. 26, 1936,
rural Floyd, to William
H. and Luella M.
(Schear) Lee.
She was the first of two
daughters born to her
parents and received her
education at the Nora
Springs and Mason City
schools.
"Billie," as she was
lovingly known by her
family and friends, has
lived all her life in
the Floyd and Mason City
area. Billie has
remained extremely close
in location and heart to
her sister all their
lives.
On Dec. 19, 1958, Billie
was united in marriage
to Larry Collins Sr. in
Des Moines. Billie and
Larry treasured their
time together taking
long rides in the
country, playing games
of chance at casinos,
dancing and fishing.
They became the proud
parents of a daughter
and three sons.
Billie was well-known
and extremely active in
the community. She was a
member of the Ladies of
the Moose, the Eagles
Lodge and the V.F.W.,
all in Mason City.
At the age of 16, Billie
was first employed at a
local turkey farm. She
is also fondly
remembered working in a
variety of customer
hospitality positions at
the Black and White
Cafι, the sugar beet
plant, the Mason City
Airport, the Elks Lodge,
the V.F.W. and the
Senior Citizen's Center.
Billie was sometimes
referred to as "Bingo
Billie." She not only
loved playing the game,
but also called bingo at
several locations.
Billie's family was her
highest priority
throughout her life. She
is described by her
children as a very
loving, giving and
caring woman who would
assist anyone at any
time in any capacity.
They recall her as "the
best Mom ever" who baked
homemade cream pies,
prepared large family
dinners, especially
holiday dinners,
contributed to bake
sales and expressed her
love of joining in on
family functions.
Billie was an avid fan
of the U.S. Wrestling
Federation, where her
grandson, Larry Collins
III (aka "The Real
Deal") participates in
amateur wrestling in
North Iowa and
Minnesota.
One of Billie's favorite
leisure activities was

Sandra Kay
Grant
BILLINGS, Mont. Sandra
Kay Grant, 57, of
Billings, returned home
to heaven on Jan. 19,
2005, at St. Vincent
Healthcare.
She was born on Feb. 10,
1947, in Mason City,
Iowa, to George and
Arlene (Hart) Grant. She
graduated from Mason
City High School in
1965. After graduation,
she attended North Iowa
Aea Community College in
Mason City.
While on vacation in
California with her
family she met her
husband. Sandy married
William Lepper on Oct.
22, 1966, in Mason City,
Iowa. They moved to
California after
marrying.
A few years later, their
son Scott Edward Lepper
was born. After spending
a few years in
California, they moved
to Montana and had a
daughter, Michele Marie
Lepper Fauth.
In 1977 they moved back
to Simi Valley, Calif.
She received a degree in
administrative
management from Moorpark
College, Calif. Sandy
worked for a
psychiatrist for five
years and then managed
an orthopedic office
until she decided to
change her career and
work for State Farm
Insurance.
While working for State
Farm Insurance, she
lived in California,
Montana, Oregon and
Washington.
As a State Farm
employee, Sandy received
several awards and
promotions. Her clients
would send letters
expressing appreciation
for her hard work and
compassion.
She retired in April
2004 after 15 years of
service with State Farm
and moved to Billings,
Mont.
Mom was full of love and
energy. She had a smile
that went from ear to
ear and would light up a
room. Her laugh was
contagious and
intoxicating.
She had a profound
unconditional love for
her children. She taught
us how to love, how to
laugh and how to live.
She was a goofball and
had corney sayings that
would make anyone laugh.
Mom made so many
sacrifices for the good
of others and never
wanted anything in
return.
Mom always thought of
others and knew how to
make them feel special.
She was the most
generous person we knew,
giving in so many ways.
Anytime anyone would go
to dinner with Mom she
would fight them for the
tab. Although she was
small, she was a force
to be reckoned with.
Mom had a tremendous
love for her dogs, Zoie
and Cassie. She always
bought them Christmas
presents and would leave
the TV on for them when
she was gone so they
wouldn't get lonely.
Mom did not know how to
sit and relax. She spent
endless hours working in
her yard. She was able
to turn a shabby
backyard into a tranquil
lush garden. This tiny
lady would pull tree
stumps out on her own
and haul them to the
dump.
This is not only a
tremendous loss for the
people that knew her,
but also for the people
who never had the chance
to know her.
We love you Mom and will
miss you so very much.
Sandy was preceded in
death by her parents,
George and Arlene Grant.
Survivors include her
brother, Robert Grant of
Mexico; son, Scott
Lepper and wife Vikki
Woodroff of Freeport,
Maine; daughter, Michele
Fauth and her husband
Matthew of Billings,
Mont.; grandchildren,
Kayla Lepper of
Youngstown, N.Y., Sophie
Lepper of Freeport,
Maine, and Mason Fauth
of Billings, Mont. She
also leaves behind her
two "girls" Cassie and
Zoie, her beloved cocker
spaniels.
Sandy would also have
insisted on mentioning
the friends that touched
her heart. They are
Cheri Roth, Suzie
Gilpatrick, Meg Green,
Judy Heavey, and Lisa
Davis.
Visitation was held on
Monday at the
Michelotti-Sawyers
Mortuary.
Funeral services will be
