MASON CITY - Marian Connelly, 88, of Mason City, died Sunday (Feb. 10, 2002) at the USA Healthcare Center.

IONE LUCILLE CHRISTIANCE
KLEMME - Ione Lucille Christiance, 90, of Klemme, died Wednesday (Feb. 27, 2002) at the Oakwood Manor Care Center in Clear Lake.
Ione was born March 22, 1911, in Sheffield, the daughter, of Dr. Frederick and Gertude (Bailey) Schwab. She enjoyed spending time in her childhood with her father at his medical office. She attended Sheffield schools for a time, until her family moved to Clear Lake, where she also attended school. Upon the early death of her mother, Ione assisted her family with the farm operation and care of her brother.
Ione married Donald G. Christiance on Feb. 26, 1928, in Des Moines. The couple would have celebrated their 74th anniversary the day before she died.
They moved to Woolstock following their marriage, where Mr. Christiance operated a barber shop. Later they moved to Kanawha, Clear Lake and then to Klemme in 1934, where they had lived and been in business for 51 years.
Mrs. Christiance was a lifelong homemaker and was an active partner with her husband on their farm in Clear Lake and in his barber shops in Klemme and Meservey.
Ione was very active in the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Klemme in many capacities, including, president of the Women's Guild at the church, funeral chairman, and various other roles. She was also active in the Klemme Community Band Mothers Club.
Ione enjoyed many trips to Perry, Iowa, where she visited her Bailey relatives, and to Illinois, where she visited her husband's relatives. She very much enjoyed spending special times with her grandchildren, and also reading, sewing, cooking, gardening, antiques, coin collecting, and playing cards.
Ione had been a resident of the Oakwood Care Center for the past year. She and her husband also valued their many friendships and enjoyed their relationship with their sons-in-law, Glen and Ron, who assisted them in many ways during their lives.
Those left to cherish the legacy of her life include, her daughters, Phyllis Echelberger, of Thornton, and Beverly Hummel and her husband, Ron, of Ankeny; three grandchildren, Mike and wife, Donna Echelberger, of Rockwell, LuAnn Scott, of Mason City, and Renae Verduyn and husband, Brian, of Des Moines; and three great-grandchildren, Todd Echelberger, Michelle Echelberger and Alayna Verduyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don, in June 2001; a brother, Frederick "Bud" Schwab Jr.; a sister, Leona Staebler; and son-in-law, Glen Echelberger.
Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, Klemme, with the Rev. Donna Buckman officiating. Burial will be in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the church.

MARLENE D. STEENSON
FOREST CITY - Marlene Dopheide Steenson, 70, of Forest City, died Wednesday (Feb. 27, 2002) at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. James Catholic Church, Forest City, with the Rev. Craig Steimel officiating. Marlene's body was cremated, as was her wish. Interment of the remains will be in St. James Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City.
Marlene was born Marlene May Dopheide on May 10, 1931, in Carroll, Iowa, the second daughter of John Bernard and Agnes (Hess) Dopheide. She was raised and attended school in Carroll, graduating from St. Angela Academy. She worked for awhile for United Airlines in Cleveland, before moving back to Carroll, where she was secretary-treasurer of the Security Title and Investment Co.
She married Richard Reinert Steenson on July 6, 1957, at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Carroll. They made their home in Carroll, where Richard was employed as an optician at Carroll Medical Center. Marlene was a homemaker, and for several years was co-owner of an antique store in Carroll. Marlene and Richard raised three children.
In 1974 the family moved to Forest City, where Richard was employed as an optician for Drs. Wilson and Morrison, optometrists, and Marlene was involved in many activities with the community and St. James Catholic Church. For a few years she raised and sold purebred Himalayan cats, and she loved having cats as pets throughout her life.
Marlene was a joyful friend and a loving mother and grandmother, who eagerly and confidently took on every challenge that came her way. She was self-reliant and independent, and enjoyed using her many talents - from refinishing furniture, to sewing and cooking, to interior decorating. She was as comfortable hemming a dress for a granddaughter's dance as she was completely redecorating the church for a holiday, as at ease cooking a lavish Thanksgiving dinner for her family as she was rewiring a lamp. She was also an accomplished artist, and for several years was active painting and selling original oil paintings.
Richard preceded her in death on July 29, 1992.
Marlene is survived by her three children and five grandchildren, Bob and his wife, Deb, and their children, Megan and Matt, of Mason City; Lisa and her husband, Jay Knudtson, and their children, Jill, Joey and Mark, rural Forest City; and Tom and his wife, Liz, of Santa Clara, Calif.; a treasured niece, Marlita and her husband, Jim Grettenberg, of Carroll; and many other nieces, nephews, in-laws and others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; a sister, Alita Bliss; and a grandchild who died in infancy, Amy Michelle Steenson, daughter of Bob and Deb.

MASON CITY - Janet S. Timmerman, 77, of 780 S. Pierce Ave., died Thursday (Feb. 28, 2002) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland officiating. Following cremation, interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield.
The family will greet friends one hour before services on Monday at the church.
Janet S. Timmerman was born July 7, 1924, at Heartland Township, Worth County, a daughter of Sever and Gyda "Josephine" (Iverson) Hengesteg.
She attended country school in the Silver Lake area, and was a graduate of Northwood High School in Northwood. She later attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City.
For many years Janet worked in the office at Romey-Fishbeck Realty in Mason City.
Her life was centered on her family. She enjoyed gardening, all animals, nature and, especially, her cat, "Perfect."
Janet was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.
Janet is survived by her loving daughter, Kristie Lovik and her husband, Jerry, of Plymouth; granddaughter, Ciara Lovik, of Plymouth; three sisters-in-law, Hazel Hengesteg, of Northwood, Colleen Hengesteg, of Northwood and Eileen Hengesteg, of Lake Mills; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harvey; five brothers, Ernest, Ernie, Harvey, Lyle and Eldor; and one sister, Ardella.

WEBSTER CITY - Luella M. Brown, 87, of Webster City, formerly of Fort Dodge and Corwith, died Tuesday (Feb. 26, 2002) at Soutfield Wellness Community in Webster City.

BRITT - Ivan A. Alphs, 76, of Britt, died Wednesday (Feb. 27, 2002) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, from complications of leukemia.
His funeral will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Woden Christian Reformed Church, with the Rev. Kevin Jordan officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt, and one hour before services at the church.
Ivan Adrian Alphs, the son of Adolph and Gerda (Eggum) Alphs, was born Dec. 13, 1925, at Thompson. At the age of 2, he moved with his parents to a farm northeast of Wesley. He received his early education in the Orthel Township country school near Wesley and graduated from Wesley High School in 1943. After graduation, Ivan farmed with his father near Wesley.
On Oct. 19, 1948, Ivan married Gladys Redenius at the Woden Christian Reformed Church. They continued to work and live on Ivan's childhood farm near Wesley for the next 52 years. In 2001, they retired and moved to a home in Britt.
Ivan was a lifelong member of the Woden Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon, usher and as a member of many committees. He loved the outdoors and was committed to farming, but his greatest love was for his family. In later years, he traveled regularly to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
Ivan is survived by his wife, Gladys, of Britt; three sons, Larry Alphs and his wife, Keiko, of Randolph, N.J., Marvin Alphs of Mason City and Duane Alphs and his wife, Mary, of Haymarket, Va.; six grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah and Aya Alphs and Amanda, Christina and Brian Alphs; two brothers, Donald Alphs and his wife, Irma, of Woden and Roger Alphs and his wife, Mary Ann, of Buffalo Center; and his sister, Mardel of Woodward.

CURTIS B. RISE
BELMOND - Curtis B. Rise, 82, of Belmond, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 27, 2002) at the Belmond Medical Center in Belmond.
The funeral for Curtis B. Rise will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery in Belmond, with military rites by the Belmond Honor Guard.
Visitation for Curtis B. Rise will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond, and one hour before services on Saturday at the church.
Curtis, the son of Chris A. and Berdie M. Thompson Rise, was born Aug. 29, 1919, on a farm west of Belmond. He grew up in Belmond, where he attended schools and graduated from Belmond High School in 1937.
Curtis joined the U.S. Army in 1942. He served his country during World War II in the European Theater. Curtis served in a transportation company. It was in Europe that Curtis met his future bride, Marguerite, at a railway station in Strasbourg, France. He returned home in 1946.
Curtis was united in marriage to Marguerite Roser on Jan. 1, 1947, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond. The couple made their home in Belmond, where Curtis worked for the Creamery for 28 years, and then the Thompson Insurance Agency and later the Bunnell Agency until his retirement in 1974.
A lifelong resident of Belmond, Curtis took great pride in the community. Curtis loved Belmond's progressive nature and the pride that all its citizens took in that work. Curtis was instrumental in preparing the way for the start of the Belmond Community Apartments and served as the secretary of the apartment's board of directors.
He was a member of the Belmond V.F.W. and the American Legion. Curtis was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, where he was baptized and confirmed.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Marguerite; two sons, Philip and his wife, Betsey, of Littleton, Colo., and Robert and his wife, Becky, of Storden, Minn.; four grandchildren, Arianne, Meredith, Noelle and Jonathan; two great-grandchildren, Levi and Amanda; a sister, Vivian Dillahunt and her husband, Stewart, of LaMesa, Calif.; sister-in-law, Jean Rise, of La Mesa, Calif.; brother-in-law, Orville Davis, of Roland; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Minerva and Avis; and one brother, Kenny.

FOREST CITY - Margaret Tonneson, 85, of Forest City, died Friday (March 1, 2002) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with the Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Newburg, N.D.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Margaret E. Tonneson was born Nov. 25, 1916, the daughter of John and Jenny (Persson) Thorenson of Torquay, Saskatchewan, Canada. She died March 1, 2002, at the age of 85 years.
At three months of age, Margaret immigrated with her family to Newburg, N.D. Margaret attended school in Newburg, and received her B.A. degree from Minot State and her M.A. from the University of North Dakota.
She married Otto Tonneson on June 29, 1938. They taught in Gackle and Voltaire, N. D.
In 1943, they returned to the home farm in Newburg, where Otto continued to teach. In 1955, the couple began teaching at Dakota Lutheran Academy in Minot, N.D. They farmed and taught until 1964, when they began their college teaching at Waldorf College in Forest City, where Margaret taught English. Both Margaret and Otto retired in 1983.
In addition to a career in education, Margaret was actively involved in Phi Theta Kappa, Sons of Norway and Gideons International, as well as the activities of her church.
Margaret is survived by her five children, their spouses and families, Jim and Carolyn, of Fergus Falls and their children, Mark and his wife, Kat, Scott and his wife, Jennifer Thorson and their son, Owen, and Kimi; Jon and Joanie, of Newburg and their daughter, Jill Britz and her husband, Andy, and Jay; Jo Anne and Keith Helland, of Lake Mills, and their daughters, Joy and Janelle; Jeannine and Darwin Bruesewitz, of Isle and their son, Jeff and Amy Holdgrafer and their daughter Gavyn, and Jana; Jerry and Cindy of Davenport and their children Renae and Michael.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband Otto; her brother, George, and sister, Ann.

KURT ELIOT LOBDELL
BELMOND - Kurt Eliot Lobdell, 43, of Belmond, died Thursday (Feb. 28, 2002) at his home in Belmond.
Kurt was born Feb. 15, 1959, at the Belmond Community Hospital, the son of Jack and Shirley (Nelson) Lobdell. He attended Belmond Schools and graduated in May 1977. Kurt worked at We Three Markets while attending high school.
Kurt attended Central College in Pella, from 1978-1982, majoring in social work and graduated Cum Laude.
Kurt was employed with Eaton Corporation for 19 years.
He enjoyed bowling, collecting sports memorabilia, all sports and, especially, enjoyed wrestling.
Those left to cherish the memory of Kurt's life include his mother, Shirley Nicholson, of Belmond; a sister, Kimberly Miller, of Iowa City; brothers, Brett Lobdell and his wife, Sonja, of Belmond, Blake Lobdell and his wife, Jane, of Clear Lake, and Tracy Lobdell and Stacy Desizlets, of Marshalltown; two nieces and four nephews.
Kurt was preceded in death by his father, Jack Lobdell; stepfather, Eugene "Nick" Nicholson; and his grandparents.
His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond, with the Rev. Lowell Halvorson officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond City Cemetery.

MANLY - Izetta G. Ryan, 88, of Manly, died Friday (March 1, 2002) at the Manly Care Center in Manly.
Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manly, with the Rev. David G. Kucera officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, Manly, with a scriptural wake service at 6 p.m.
Izetta was born Oct. 15, 1913, in Fall City, Neb., the daughter of Thomas and Jenny (Bigler) Carre. She moved with her family at an early age to Manly, where she attended school.
Izetta married Thomas Ryan in September 1934 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly. They lived on the family farm north of Manly.
Izetta enjoyed playing scrabble, cards, gardening, doing crossword puzzles and having her children and grandchildren around her.
Izetta was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Guild and Shell Rock Dinner Club.
Izetta is survived by her seven children, Patricia Arp and her husband, Ken, of Amana, Madonna Cinkle and her husband, Terry, of Marshall, Minn., Judy Carstens and her husband, George, of Mason City, Karen Engleman and her husband, Richard, of Mason City, Joan James, of Buffalo Center, Diane Ryan, of Mason City, and Thomas Ryan and his wife, Sharon, of Holman, Wis.; 17 grandchildren, Kelly Arp, Tim Arp, Kathy Flack, Kelly Cinkle, Joe Carstens, Lisa Faust, George Carstens Jr., Allan Engleman, Scott Engleman, Vickie Thompson, Tony James, Sherri Sperlich, Doug James, David Ryan, Alanna Ryan, William and Michael Ryan; 23 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Corrina Mutersbaugh, of Minneapolis and Opal Pederson and her husband, Ervin, of Rockwell.

NORTHWOOD - A. Genevieve West, 94, Northwood, died Thursday (Feb. 28, 2002) at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.
Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Bolan United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Cumings officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.
Friends may call from 4 until 6 p.m. on Monday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St. in Manly, and one hour before services on Tuesday at the church.

Genevieve West was born on April 21, 1907, in Blue Springs, Neb., the daughter of Elmer and Jessie (Bickell) West. She attended and received her education in the Barnston, Neb., school system, graduating from Barnston High School. Genevieve lived and worked in Des Moines for 40 years as a seamstress, until moving to Northwood in 1984.
She enjoyed fishing, knitting, needlepoint and reading.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's circle in Bolan.
Left to cherish her memory are two nephews, Larry West and his wife, Joan, of Forest City, and Terry West and his wife, Jean, of Clear Lake; two nieces, Aleta Lee and special friend, Vern Tinsley, of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Marlys West, of Des Moines; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; her extended family in Des Moines; and all her Bolan friends.

IONE LUCILLE CHRISTIANCE
KLEMME - Ione Lucille Christiance, 90, of Klemme, died Wednesday (Feb. 27, 2002) at the Oakwood Manor Care Center in Clear Lake.
Ione was born March 22, 1911, in Sheffield, the daughter, of Dr. Frederick and Gertude (Bailey) Schwab. She enjoyed spending time in her childhood with her father at his medical office. She attended Sheffield schools for a time, until her family moved to Clear Lake, where she also attended school. Upon the early death of her mother, Ione assisted her family with the farm operation and care of her brother.
Ione married Donald G. Christiance on Feb. 26, 1928, in Des Moines. The couple would have celebrated their 74th anniversary the day before she died.
They moved to Woolstock following their marriage, where Mr. Christiance operated a barber shop. Later they moved to Kanawha, Clear Lake and then to Klemme in 1934, where they had lived and been in business for 51 years.
Mrs. Christiance was a lifelong homemaker and was an active partner with her husband on their farm in Clear Lake and in his barber shops in Klemme and Meservey.
Ione was very active in the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Klemme in many capacities, including, president of the Women's Guild at the church, funeral chairman, and various other roles. She was also active in the Klemme Community Band Mothers Club.
Ione enjoyed many trips to Perry, Iowa, where she visited her Bailey relatives, and to Illinois, where she visited her husband's relatives. She very much enjoyed spending special times with her grandchildren, and also reading, sewing, cooking, gardening, antiques, coin collecting and playing cards.
Ione had been a resident of the Oakwood Care Center for the past year. She and her husband also valued their many friendships and enjoyed their relationship with their sons-in-law, Glen and Ron, who assisted them in many ways during their lives.
Those left to cherish the legacy of her life include, her daughters, Phyllis Echelberger, of Thornton, and Beverly Hummel and her husband, Ron, of Ankeny; three grandchildren, Mike and wife, Donna Echelberger, of Rockwell, LuAnn Scott, of Mason City, and Renae Verduyn and husband, Brian, of Des Moines; and three great-grandchildren, Todd Echelberger, Michelle Echelberger and Alayna Verduyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don, in June 2001; a brother, Frederick "Bud" Schwab Jr.; a sister, Leona Staebler; and son-in-law, Glen Echelberger.
Her funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, Klemme, with the Rev. Donna Buckman officiating. Burial will be in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of services on Monday at the church.

Margaretta was born July 2, 1919, at Mason City, the daughter of Owen and Bertha (Merchant) Wharam.
Mrs. Baago was a 1937 graduate of Mason City High School, and a 1939 graduate of Hamilton Business College, Mason City.
Margaretta married John G. Baago, on September 21, 1940, at Dubuque, Iowa.
For several years she worked at Como Photo, Mason City. She also worked for the city of Clear Lake, serving as assistant city clerk. She later worked in the office at Edwards Spraying & Construction Company, Clear Lake, until retiring in 1974.
Margeretta and her family took annual trips to the north shore of Lake Superior to vacation and gather wild blueberries. As a result of those trips, she made delicious homemade blueberry pie.
She enjoyed reading, sewing, walking, bible study, and her family and friends. She especially looked forward to winters in Bradenton, Florida.
Her memberships include: Agape Christian Family Church; Wa-Tan-YeClub, Clear Lake, where she served as president.
Margaretta is survived by two sons; Myron Baago and his wife, Sue, Fort Worth, Tex.; Wade Baago and his wife, Mary Ann, Clear Lake; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; one sister, Ellen Nelson, Clear Lake; and one brother, Jack Wharam, Indianapolis, Ind.

Deloris was born on March 5, 1926, to Arthur and Bertha (Hansen) Hillman in Worth County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at First Shell Rock Church in Northwood. Deloris attended school in Hartland Township at Northwood High School. On May 17, 1944, she married Russell E. Appel.They resided in the Lake Mills, Northwood area most of their lives.
Deloris was an active member of her church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and entertaining, Her positive attitude was a blessing to all.
Deloris was blessed with four children; JoAnn Solomonson and her husband, Orlan, of Blaine, Minn., Michael Appel and fiance, Deborah Lackerman, of San Diego, Calif., Candace Daugar and fiance, Monte Ryan, of Peoria, Ariz., and Russ and Allison Appel of Jewell; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; five sisters, Inez Henrichs of Calif., Bernice Stevens of Albert Lea, Minn., Dorothy Estes of Northwood, Mavis Roppe of Northwood, and Junice Skogen also of Albert Lea.

THORNTON- Tena Dirks, 86, of Thornton, died Friday (March 1, 2002) at the Sheffield Care Center.

Tena Dirks was born Feb. 7, 1916, in Meservey the daughter of Tony and Bernadine "Dena" (Koenen) Boelman. She was baptized June 4, 1916, at the First Reformed Church of Meservey and attended Meservey schools.
On May 8, 1936, Tena was united in marriage with Louis Dirks at the parsonage of the First Reformed Church, Meservey. They made their home in the Thornton and Meservey area.
Tena worked for several years as a cook at a local restaurant and raised her eight children. She was a life-long member of the First Reformed Church of Meservey where she had been active in the church circles. She enjoyed sewing and had provided clothes for all her family members.
Tena is survived by five children; Doris Dirks, Thornton, Ronald (Judy) Dirks, Forest City, Karen (Frank) Uhde, Thornton, Jim (Nancy) Dirks, Ankeny, John (Cindy) Dirks, Mason City; 23 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law: Elsa Dirks, Republic, Mo; Ann Dirks, Thornton; one sister, Bertha Trager, Meservey; a sister-in-law; Sylvia Boelman, Mason City; a brother-in-law, Bob Smith, Mason City.

MASON CITY - Edward William Stangler Jr., 57, of 636 S. President Ave., Mason City died Thursday (Feb. 28, 2002) at his residence.

On February 26, 1945, Edward was born to Edward William Sr. and Eunice (Sholl) Stangler in Mason City. Edward attended Newman High School and then joined the United States Air Force on Sept. 20, 1962, and served through Jan. 12, 1967. The decorations that he received were the National Defense Service Medal.
On 1963, Edward was united in marriage to June Poulin in Orlando, Fla. He enjoyed bowling, dancing and listening to rock 'n' roll music. Edward loved striking up a conversation with his friends, family or even a stranger. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus and was employed by the City of Mason City.
Edward's life will be treasured through the memories of his two children, Mindy Stangler and her child, Dekota Frazier, of Mason City, Nicholas Stangler and his wife, Terri, and their children, Steven, Christopher and Michael of Grand Island, Neb.; one sister, Patricia Livers and her husband, Frank, of Mason City.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Nancy.

MASON CITY - Celestin Joseph Loux Jr., 68, died Wednesday (Feb. 27, 2002) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania, Mason City.
A prayer service will be held immediately following visitation on Monday. Missionary Wanda Hagman will preside. A flag folding ceremony and ''Taps'' will also be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association at the funeral home.

Celestin Joseph Loux Jr. was born Feb. 21, 1934, in Dayton Township, the son of Celestin Joseph and Maude (Legge) Loux Sr. He attended Clarion High School. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Eagle Grove where he began working with the railroad. He was united in marriage to Sheila Wicks in 1956. The family moved to Illinois where he worked as an electrician. They returned to Eagle Grove where he worked as an engineer for the railroad. He and Sheila divorced and he moved to Mason City where he lived until his death.
In 1994, he took an early retirement from the railroad after 29 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed the simple things in life, including bowling and cribbage.
Those left to cherish his memory include, his sons; Celestin Loux III, of Mason City, Quinn Loux, of Eagle Grove; daughters, Denita Loux, of Denver, Col., Chris Oney, of Denver, Col.; nine grandchildren; Joshua, La Toshia and Felshia Loux, Nate and Maleah Loux, Siera and Cole Loux, Brandy and Derrick Oney; sisters Georgiana Buhrl, of Eagle Grove, Bertha Kurffman of Woolstock; a brother, Richard Loux of EagleGrove; and several neices and nephews.

GREENE - Matilda E. Holzschuh, 88, of 730 N. Second Street, Greene, died Friday (March 1, 2002) at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City.

Matilda Elizabeth Klein was born March 5, 1914, in rural Gilbertville, Black Hawk County, the daughter of John and Anna (Fufsinn) Schmitz Klein.
Matilda received her education in the rural Blackhawk County schools.
On June 5, 1940, she was united in marriage to Harold Holzschuh at St. John's Catholic Church in Waterloo. They lived in Waterloo and later Oelwein before moving to Greene in 1948. Tillie was employed at the Truex Café and later Sonny's Tap both in Greene. Tillie and Harold owned and operated Holzschuh Processing for fifteen years.
Tillie's pastimes included gardening, word search puzzles and going on special tours offered by the bank.
She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and St. Lucy's Circle. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxillary.
Those thankful for having shared her life include her four daughters; Paulette Haley of Chico, Calif., Patsy and her husband, Galen Hoodjer, of Greene, Francine Albrecht and Judy Ellingson, both of Mason City; one son, Gary of Defuniak, Fla.; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

FLOYD RIDEN
CHARLES CITY- Floyd Riden, 84, a resident of 700 Hildreth Street, Charles City, died Friday (March 1, 2002) at the Eleventh Street Chautuaqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Funeral services for Floyd Riden will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Trinity United Methodist Church with the Revs., Dianne Christopher and Diane Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City. The Charles City Ceremonial Unit will conduct military honors at the graveside.

FloydWilliam Riden was born May 25, 1917 in Butler County, the son of Howard and Mary (Schilling) Riden. He received his education from rural Butler County Country Schools.
On Nov. 20, 1941, he was united in marriage to Margaret Wedeking at Clarksville.
Floyd was called to serve his country during World War II in The United States Army from August 27, 1942, to October 6, 1945. He was in the 18th Field Artillery Division, training at Fort Sill, Okla.
Floyd was sent overseas to the European Theatre, fighting in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. For his service he was awarded Five Battle Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the prestigious Purple Heart.
Following his discharge, Floyd returned to Charles City where he worked at the Oliver Corporation.
In 1947, they moved south of Charles City, where he and Margaret farmed until retiring 28 years later, at which time they moved into Charles City. He worked for Charles City Lumber and Peavey Lumber for three years after moving to town.
Floyd was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Men's Brotherhood, Midi's, Heritage Club, V.F.W., and the American Legion.
His retirement years were spent working in his wood shop, doing yard work, and spending time with his family, enjoying especially his grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was anxiously awaiting the arrival of two additional great grandchildren.
Living family members include his wife, Margaret, of Charles City; a daughter, Mona Staudt and husband, Ron, of Charles City; a son, Gary Riden and wife, Sheila, of Charles City; six grandchildren, Douglas, Steven, Charles, and Renee Staudt, Somer Robbins, and Andrea Riden; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Harvey Riden and wife, Maxine, of Charles City; and a sister-in-law, Odis Riden, of Charles City.
His parents, and a brother, Leslie Riden, preceded him in death.

CLEAR LAKE - Frank S. Truesdell, 89, of Ventura, died Sunday (March 3, 2002) at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Ventura, with Reverend Paul Hasel officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the church.
According to Frank's wishes, his body was cremated.
The family of Frank S. Truesdell has requested that memorial contributions be made to the United Methodist Church in Ventura in his memory.

Frank S. Truesdell was born on November 28, 1912, in Hopkington, Iowa, the son of Stephen Franklin and Harriet Hannah (Speed) Truesdell. He attended and received his education in the Archer community schools, graduating from Archer High School in 1930. After graduating from high school, Frank enrolled in Upper Iowa University, earning his B.A. degree in mathematics in 1935.
He was united in marriage to Bernice M. Culver on September 21, 1935, in Greenfield, Iowa.
After receiving his B.A. at Upper Iowa University, he began his teaching profession in the Zion Consolidated Schools in Orient, Iowa, teaching commercial, mathematics, boys basketball and baseball until 1940, when he became the superintendent in the Zion Consolidated Schools.
Frank also was the superintendent from 1942 to 1948 in the Woden Public schools; from 1948 to 1957 in the Hayfield Consolidated schools; from 1957 to 1963 in the Gilmore City Community schools; the Gilmore City-Bradgate Community schools from 1963 to 1964, and in the Galva Community Schools and from 1964 until his retirement in 1977 was the superintendent in the Rembrandt Consolidated School.
Frank also furthered his education as a superintendent by continuing his own education at Iowa State University in 1950 and earned his master's degree from Drake University in 1951.
He was a master gardener and enjoyed golf, fishing, bowling, and hunting, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren and going to all their sports activities.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, and was on their finance board in Ventura. He was also a member of the Rotary Club in Clear Lake, the Ventura Lions Club, and was on the Ventura Library Board.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Bernice Truesdell, of Ventura; a son, Bill Truesdell and his wife, Laura, of Clear Lake; four grandchildren, Randy Truesdell and his wife, Kathy, of Clear Lake, Stefanie Camenisch and her husband, Mark, of Boone, Paula Lindsley and her husband, Chris, of Cedar Falls, and Peggy Adams and her husband, Shawn, of Ventura; seven great-grandchildren, Tanner and Parker Truesdell, Bailey and Macie Camenisch, Paige and Spencer Lindsley, and Aubrianna Adams; as well as other relatives and many friends.

MASON CITY - Arvid Burdett Stokesbary, 84, of Clear Lake, died Saturday (March 2, 2002) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral and Masonic services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North Fourth Street, Clear Lake, and one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the church.
The family of Arvid Burdett Stokesbary has requested that memorial contributions be made to the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, in his memory.
Arvid Burdett Stokesbary was born on April 9, 1917, in Klemme, the son of Joe and Pauline (Seglem) Stokesbary. Arvid grew up in the Klemme area and attended and received his education in the rural country school near Klemme.
He was united in marriage to Evelyn Whitehurst on January 9, 1936, in Klemme.
In 1942, they moved to Ames where Arvid was a city bus driver for 12 years before moving to Kansas City, Mo., in 1959, driving for Merchant Freight Company until he retired in 1975.
After his retirement, Arvid and Evelyn moved back to Clear Lake. Arvid worked part-time at the Sheraton Inn in Mason City for 15 years, until the hotel was sold. Arvid also did volunteer work, most recently for Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Arvid became a Mason in 1957, and was also Master of the Masonic Lodge in Clear Lake. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, and the Clear Lake Evening Lions Club since 1975. He was very active in fund-raising for the Lions Club, was a volunteer at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, Oak Hill Country Club member, and was an avid golfer, and a regular member of the Downtown Coffee group.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Evelyn Stokesbary, of Clear Lake; children, Barbara J. Ford and her husband, Paul, of Springfield, Ill., Beverly J. Lambert of Springfield, Ill., Daryl B. Stokesbary and his wife, Sandy, of Hampton, Minn., Bethene J. Hatcher and her husband, Gene, of Winchester, Ill., and Debra K. Hansmeier and her husband, Mick, of Eagan, Minn.; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and many friends.
His parents, five brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.

FRANK S. TRUESDELL
CLEAR LAKE - Frank S. Truesdell, 89, of Ventura, died Sunday (March 3, 2002) at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Ventura, with Reverend Paul Hasel officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the church.
According to Frank's wishes, his body was cremated.
The family of Frank S. Truesdell has requested that memorial contributions be made to the United Methodist Church in Ventura in his memory.

Frank S. Truesdell was born on Nov. 28, 1912, in Hopkington, Iowa, the son of Stephen Franklin and Harriet Hannah (Speed) Truesdell. He attended and received his education in the Archer community schools, graduating from Archer High School in 1930. After graduating from high school, Frank enrolled in Upper Iowa University, earning his B.A. degree in mathematics in 1935.
He was united in marriage to Bernice M. Culver on Sept. 21, 1935, in Greenfield, Iowa.
After receiving his B.A. at Upper Iowa University, he began his teaching profession in the Zion Consolidated Schools in Orient, Iowa, teaching commercial, mathematics, boys basketball and baseball until 1940, when he became the superintendent in the Zion Consolidated Schools.
Frank also was the superintendent from 1942 to 1948 in the Woden Public schools; from 1948 to 1957 in the Hayfield Consolidated schools; from 1957 to 1963 in the Gilmore City Community schools; the Gilmore City-Bradgate Community schools from 1963 to 1964, and in the Galva Community Schools and from 1964 until his retirement in 1977 was the superintendent in the Rembrandt Consolidated School.
Frank also furthered his education as a superintendent by continuing his own education at Iowa State University in 1950 and earned his master's degree from Drake University in 1951.
He was a master gardener and enjoyed golf, fishing, bowling, and hunting, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren and going to all their sports activities.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, and was on their finance board in Ventura. He was also a member of the Rotary Club in Clear Lake, the Ventura Lions Club, and was on the Ventura Library Board.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Bernice Truesdell, of Ventura; a son, Bill Truesdell and his wife, Laura, of Clear Lake; four grandchildren, Randy Truesdell and his wife, Kathy, of Clear Lake, Stefanie Camenisch and her husband, Mark, of Boone, Paula Lindsley and her husband, Chris, of Cedar Falls, and Peggy Adams and her husband, Shawn, of Ventura; seven great-grandchildren, Tanner and Parker Truesdell, Bailey and Macie Camenisch, Paige and Spencer Lindsley, and Aubrianna Adams; as well as other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wayne Truesdell and Lt. Col. Glenn Truesdell; and three sisters, Viola Burchett, Evelyn Warren, and Joyce Baugher.

DANIEL H. MEYER
WODEN - Daniel H. Meyer, 88, of Woden died Sunday (March 3, 2002) at the Westview Care Center in Britt.
His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Titonka with the Rev. James L. Berka officiating. Interment will be in Bingham Township Cemetery, Woden.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt and one hour prior to services at the church.
Daniel Harm Meyer, the son of the Rev. Dirk and Emma (Rotschafer) Meyer, was born Nov. 11, 1913 at Woden. He attended the rural schools of Hancock County and worked for various farmers in the Woden area.
On May 16, 1935, he married Gladys Monsen at her parents' home northeast of Woden. They lived at Goodell, Rowan, Forest City, Britt and in 1952 returned to Woden where Dan farmed and later started his own paint contracting business.
He enjoyed playing cribbage, bowling, going to auctions and garage sales and fishing at his cabin near Mankato, Minn. Most of all, he enjoyed gardening. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his three sons, Edward Daryl Meyer and his wife, Janet, of Fort Dodge, Gary Meyer and his wife, Joyce, of Garner, and Ronnie Meyer and his wife, Carole, of Bloomington, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Meyer, of Kanawha; a sister, Ruth DeWaard, of Woden; three sisters-in-law, Hanna Mae Meyer of Woden, Martha Riggle and her husband, Ernest, of Crystal Lake and Bertha Monsen of Forest City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, Nov. 20, 1996; his son, Darwin, July 6, 1987; parents; three brothers, Ed, John and Elmer Meyer; three sisters, Marie Limberg, Esther Limberg and Aletta Eden; and a brother-in-law, Adrian DeWaard.

On Dec. 20, 1941, Evelyn was united in marriage with Lavern Hiller. They farmed south of Thornton all of their married life.
Evelyn enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing and playing in bridge clubs. She also enjoyed spending winters in Fort Dade Mobile Home Park in Dade, Fla.
Evelyn is survived by three children, Joan Oelkers, of Clear Lake; Jack Hiller, Brooksville, Fla., and Carmen Holladay, Las Vegas, Nev.; sister, Marybelle Johnson, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Letha Dodge, of Rockwell; Irene Ingebretson, of Mason City; six grandchildren, Kelly Hyde, of Mason City, Wendy Friest, Mason City, Tisha Haugland, Stuart, Fla., Mia Haugland, Las Vegas, Nev., Rudy Hiller and Drew Hiller, of Brooksville, Fla.; one great-grandchild, Dylan Friest, of Mason City.

Karen was born Jan. 11, 1941, at Cedar Falls, a daughter of Harvey W. and Janet A. (Boose) Rayburn.
She was a graduate of Mason City High School and Hamilton Business College, Mason City. Karen worked at Principal Financial Group, Mason City, for several years, until retiring for health reasons.
Karen volunteered at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa and the Humane Society of North Iowa.
Karen enjoyed doing genealogy, and was a member of the North Central Genealogical Society.
She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean Mejia, Apple Valley, Minn.; Debbie Monaghan and her husband, Ron, Mason City; two grandchildren, Josh Moen, Mason City, and Demi Monaghan, Mason City; two sisters, Kathy Kittleson, Roseville, Minn., and Carol Janet Rayburn, Mason City; and one brother, Charles Rayburn, Mason City.
She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents, and her parents.

RICHARD 'DICK' E. WILLIAMS
OSAGE - Richard "Dick" E. Williams, 81, of Osage died Sunday (March 3, 2002) at Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.
Dick was born June 25, 1920, in Harpers Ferry, the son of Burt and Florence (Boardman) Williams.
On Aug. 8, 1944, he was united in marriage to Gertrude McGeough at Cherry Mound St. Pius Catholic Church in Allamakee County, Iowa.
In 1945, they moved to Osage where he was employed with Penney Brothers Tire and Auto Parts until 1964 when he opened Dick's Royal Tire & Supply. In 1975 he sold his business and worked for Sieg Auto Parts and CarQuest until he retired in 1995.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with the Rev. Philip Recker officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

She was united in marriage to Joseph Ruiz Mejia on Sept. 24, 1935, in Granger, Texas. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Ray and special friend, Donna Mejia, of Manly; son, Patrick Mejia, of Hampton; daughter, Angela Wagner, of Springfield, Mo.; daughter, Janie and husband, Art Rocha, of Hampton; daughter, Vacilia McBride, of Beloit, Wis.; son, James and wife, Shirley Mejia, of Hampton; son, Felix and wife, Bettylou Mejia, of Mason City; son, Joseph and wife, Carol Mejia, of North Port, Fla.; granddaughter/daughter, Patricia and husband, Brian Fitz, of Northwood; sister, Beatrice Rosales, of Holland, Mich., and sister, Refugia R. MASON CITY - Richard R. "Dick" Reisinger, 77, of Mason City, died Monday (Feb. 25, 2002) at Dundee, Fla.

He was born March 26, 1924 in LaPorte, Ind. to Leroy Henry and Mary Katherine Reisinger.
He was owner/operator of Reisinger Sign Company. He and his wife wintered for many years in Florida.
He was a Protestant by faith.
