MASON CITY - Else O. Dannen, age 86, of Mason City died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Swaledale United Methodist Church in Swaledale, with the Rev. Bruce O. Wittern officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Swaledale

Else O. Dannen was born on May 10, 1916, at Latimer, the son of Otto and Mattie (Abbas) Dannen. He attended Latimer Schools.
He was united in marriage to Irene V. Muhlenbruch on Sept. 16, 1941, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed in the Swaledale/Clear Lake/Sheffield area until 1960.
They moved to Swaledale where he was self-employed cornshelling and trucking. He was also a custodian in the Rockwell-Swaledale School district for 20 years.
Else was baptized at the Zion Reformed Church and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Swaledale.
Else enjoyed playing cards, music, dancing and golfing. He was a city council member, member of the fire department, member of SAMS Club (Swaledale Area Mens Club) and played an active role in his church.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him including, daughters, Sharon Burkhart and husband, Carl, of Perry, and Linda Schulz and husband, Paul, of Hampton; sons, Vern Dannen and wife, Janelle, of Plymouth, Ron Dannen and wife, Leilani, of Mason City, Duane "Pete" Dannen and wife, Marge, of Mason City; 15 grandchildren, Doug Bonjour, Curt Bonjour, David Schulz, Joni Kew, Nicholas Schulz, Dallas Schulz, Amy Stoeffler, Kari Pate, Aaron Dannen, Ryan Dannen, Kiley Dannen, Echo Cash, Dara Dannen, Kaci Jo Dannen, Jorden Dannen; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Viola Jaspersen and husband, Harold, of Thornton; a special friend, Renelda Petersen, of Clear Lake.

OSAGE - Arthur J. Altick, 74, of Osage, died Tuesday (June 4, 2002) at the Faith Home in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Osage with the Rev. Karen Nichols Dungan officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 702 State St. in Osage, and will continue one hour before services on Friday at the church.
Arthur Johnson Altick was born May 26, 1928, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Arthur T. and Dell (Johnson) Altick. When he was 2 years old his family moved to Osage. Art was raised in Osage and attended Osage schools, graduating from Osage High School in 1946. He also attended Upper Iowa University and Iowa State University.
Art married Audrey McKee of Riceville on April 1, 1950, in Minneapolis. They made their home on a farm south of Osage, where they lived, raised their three children and farmed until Art's retirement. They then moved to a home on the River Road, west of Osage.
After the loss of his first wife, Audrey, Art married a long-time school friend, Jeannine Horn, and they established a home together in Osage.
Art was a life-long member of the Osage First United Methodist Church. He served many years on the board of directors of the Osage Farmers National Bank.
Art loved the outdoors, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and camping. During his farming years he raised purebred Angus cattle.
After his retirement, he was happiest traveling the country in their motor home. He was a loving father and grandfather, and a good loyal friend. He was caring and kind and helped many in his quiet way.
He was preceded in death by first wife, Audrey, in 1997; his parents; and grandparents; and a brother-in-law, Stan Krones.
Art is survived by his wife, Jeannine, of Osage; three children, a daughter Diane Muller of Iowa City; two sons, Dennis Altick and his wife, Mary, of Osage, and David Altick and his wife, Denette, of Osage; six grandchildren, Laura Muller and Zachary Muller, Katie Altick and Matt Altick, Heather Altick and Hilary Altick; a brother-in-law, Verle "Bud" McKee and his wife, Uva, of Osage; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Krones of Osage; also two stepchildren, 10 stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild;and a brother-in-law; plus several nieces and nephews and many friends.

LYDIA LUKER
MASON CITY -Lydia Luker, 83, of 154 N. Crescent Drive, died Tuesday (June 4, 2002) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware Ave., with the Rev. Daird Korth officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Lydia was born July 9, 1918, in Maywood, Ill., the daughter of Christ J. and Katherine E. (Groh) Heimbuch. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on Aug. 25, 1918, and confirmed on April 9, 1933.
She moved to Mason City with her parents in 1924. They joined Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where Lydia had been a member ever since. She taught Sunday school for 46 years, was an active member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the Miriam Circle, served on the church council and the social concerns committee, and was the church historian.
Lydia was also a member of the Home Improvement Club since 1948 and of the Clear Lake Garden Club for many years. Lydia was a political activist and worked at many elections. She also volunteered for the American Cancer and Diabetes societies.
With all of her many interests, Lydia's greatest pride and joy was raising her family and enjoying all their many activities.
Lydia is survived by her husband, Gilbert, of Mason City; one son, Rohn Luker and his wife, Georgia, of Mason City; three daughters and their spouses, Marian and Charles Edelen, of Ham Lake, Minn., Jayne and John Cambronne, of Finlayson, Minn., and Katherine and James Bart, of Watertown, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frieda Udelhofen and Rosie Ficken and her husband, Edwin, all of Mason City; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, two nieces and one nephew.

IRVIN MARTINUS SORENSEN
NORTHWOOD - Irvin Martinus Sorensen, 81, of Northwood, died Wednesday (June 5, 2002) in a motorcycle accident west of Northwood.
His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Spencer Thury of Riverside Friends Church in Mason City officiating. Interment will be held at Clear Lake Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Irvin was born July 21, 1920, the son of Chris and Petra (Bach) Sorensen, at their home in Clear Lake. When Irvin was a small child, the family moved to a farm south of Clear Lake. He received his education in country schools, starting south of Clear Lake.
Later the family moved to a farm northwest of Mason City, in Lime Creek Township. Irvin graduated from the 8th grade at Lime Creek No. 4 in 1934.
Irvin made a scooter in 1937. He traded this for his first motorcycle - a single cylinder Harley Davidson - the first of many he has owned. He had won several trophies racing motorcycles.
Irvin served in the U.S. Navy from February 1945 to August 1946 on an Amphibious Cargo Ship, the U.S.S. Truesdale in the South Pacific area.
When he returned home, he farmed with his father north of Clear Lake. They moved to a farm northwest of Northwood, in March 1947, where he had since resided.
Irvin is survived by two brothers, Thorvald Sorensen, of Plymouth, and Hans Sorensen and his wife, Beth, of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; three sisters, Edith Skene, of Ventura, Helen Bergman, of Britt, and Frances Miller, of Ventura; a sister-in-law, Alta Sorensen, of Rockford; and also many nieces and nephews.
Irvin was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Olga Smeby, in 1966; a brother, Verner Sorensen, in 2001; four brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and a nephew, Chris A. Sorensen, in 1974.

WEST BEND - Lyle Edward Rick, 84, of West Bend, died April 10, 2002, at the West Bend Nursing Home.
His funeral was held on Saturday, April 13, 2002, at the Apostolic Christian Church at West Bend. Burial was in Apostolic Christian Cemetery.
Lyle Edward Rick was born June 9, 1917, in Hampton, the son of Ernest and Catherine (Jenzen) Rick. He was raised and received his education in Hampton.
On July 26, 1969, he was united in marriage with Irene Anliker in West Bend. After their marriage the couple lived eight years in Alexandria, Minn., returning to West Bend in 1977. They lived in West Bend the rest of their married lives with the exception of four years inWhittemore.
Lyle was a carpet layer for Roupe Furniture in West Bend and also a self employed carpenter. Lyle was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, of West Bend; a son, Jim and his wife, Sharon Neighbors, of Ruthven; grandchildren, Jennifer (Mrs. Rick) Coltvet, of Omaha, Neb., and Jeff Neighbors, of Chicago, Ill.; a great-grandchild, Cassidy Coltvet; along with a sister, Evelyn Carroll, of Mason City; a brother, Lewis and his wife, Mary Rick, of Mason City; sister-in-law, Ruth Rick (Everett) and family; and a niece, Alice Scharlou and her husband, Lynn, and family.

Kevin was born Jan. 1, 1974, the son of Merlyn and Ramona (Jackson) Reiter, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City. He graduated from the R-R-MR in the Class of 1992 and went on to Hawkeye Community College to study turf management.
In October 1998 he moved to Des Moines and began working for the Des Moines Golf and Country Club. One of the highlights of Kevin's career was working to prepare the course for the 1999 Senior Open.
Kevin loved the game of golf and enjoyed every minute working on the course. He often spoke of nature's beauty in the birds singing and the animals busy at work, especially the swans.
Kevin had many passions in his life including trout fishing, traveling (especially flying), watching sports, attending Iowa Hawkeye Football games, going to the health club and watching NASCAR.
He looked forward to the time he was able to spend with his friends, favorite English Bulldog "Lucy," and his two very special nieces. Kevin's pride and joy was his 1966 Ford Mustang that he refurbished.
Those thankful for having shared in Kevin's life include his parents, Merlyn and Ramona Reiter; one sister, Shelley and her husband, Michael Brunner, of Hiawatha; grandparents, Eno and Isabelle Reiter, of Charles City; two nieces, Kaylyn and Hannah Brunner, of Hiawatha; aunts and uncles, LeRoy and Virginia Kuhlers, of Bancroft, Sheryl Jackson, of Mason City, Melvin and Ann Reiter, of Charles City, Jerry and Maxine Watkins, of Charles City, Alvin Reiter, of Marble Rock, and Marlys Reiter of Hampton; and many cousins and extended family.

NORTHWOOD - Lawrence Arrett, 82, of Northwood, died Wednesday (June 5, 2002) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Lawrence was born March 29, 1920, in Freeborn County, Minn., to William and Ethel (Cunningham) Arrett. He attended rural schools in Freeborn County.
He was united in marriage to Evalyn Barber on Nov. 1, 1940. They farmed in Minnesota and Iowa. He worked briefly at Wilson Packing Plant in Albert Lea, Minn.
He was a member of the Northwood United Methodist Church and Eagles Club in Minnesota.
He loved farm life, enjoyed horses, attending fairs, traveling, fishing and camping. He was a caring, devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He never met a stranger, they all were friends. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; two infant brothers; grandson, Todd Hove; and four brothers-in-law.

LA VERA M. DIERCKS
MASON CITY - La Vera M. Diercks, 97, passed away Oct. 29, 2001, at Yuma Regional Medical Center.
She was born April 12, 1904, in Portland, Iowa, to Lydia and John Stark. Mrs. Diercks graduated from Mason City High School and then worked in Ames as a drafter.
She married John A. Diercks of Mason City on Oct. 7, 1923, in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, and they resided in Clear Lake and Mason City. Their son, Jack, was born in 1925.
While in Mason City, they were members of the Wesley Methodist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Diercks retired to Green Valley, Ariz., and later moved to Yuma, Ariz., to live with their son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Norma Diercks.
Mrs. Diercks was a gifted homemaker and an award-winning golfer and seamstress. She also enjoyed bridge, dancing and reading.
During her life, she volunteered often with a variety of groups including the Farm Bureau in Cerro Gordo County, and the White Elephant consignment charity in Green Valley, Ariz.
Her family and friends remember her dearly as someone who always wanted to make others happy.
Mrs. Diercks was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Diercks; and her son, Jack J. Diercks.
Mrs. Diercks is survived by granddaughters, Janet Diercks and Dorathea Harlowe; grandson, John A Diercks II; stepgranddaughters, Gail Pedelty and Denise Kopp; and daughter-in-law, Norma Diercks. Survivors also include great-grandchildren, Erika Olson, Jon Olson, John A. Diercks III, Joshua Diercks, Steven Kopp and Thomas Kopp.
A private memorial inurnment service will be held on Saturday. Mrs. Diercks' final resting place will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Mason City.

MASON CITY - Ernest W. Maxson, 81, of 127 27th St. S.W., died Wednesday (June 5, 2002) at home.
His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W., with the Rev. Sarah Rohret Odoom officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Ernie was born April 26, 1921, in Mason City, the son of Ernest V. and Nellie A. (Tallmon) Maxson. He graduated from Mason City High School. Ernie served in the U.S. Army during WW II with the 133rd infantry, 2nd battalion.
He married Donna M. Carson on Oct. 15, 1941, in Bethany, Mo. Ernie worked for the city of Mason City for 21 years, retiring in April 1983.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, former trustee of the church and a member of the D.A.V.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Donna, of Mason City; two daughters, Kathy Hackbart and her husband, Ken, of Mason City and Judy Curley and her husband, Russell, of Hamilton, Ohio; three grandchildren, Nikki Matz, Mike Matz, and Martha Curley; one great-grandchild, Codie Matz; two sisters, Hilda Benton, of Festus, Mo., and Edythe C. BELMOND - Francis L. "Skeeter" Morris, 87, of Belmond, died Wednesday (June 5, 2002) at the Belmond Medical Center Hospice Unit.
His funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 304 3rd Ave. N.E., in Belmond, with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.

Francis Luick Morris was born in Wright County on Aug. 2, 1914, the son of David and Mabel (Keeling) Morris. He attended country school south of Belmond and graduated from Belmond High School in 1932.
He was united in marriage to Viola Soma on Sept. 14, 1938, at her parents' home near Kanawha. They were married for 62 years until Viola's death in June 2000.
Francis started his lifelong farming career at an early age and later bought the farm. He and his wife continued to farm until his retirement in 1984, when he and Viola moved into Belmond.
In 1999, they moved to the Leinbach Retirement Center in Belmond.
In addition to farming, Skeeter had worked for many years at the Belmond Sales Pavillion and for Mack's Feeder Supply for several years in the later 1960s and early 1970s.
Francis spent time fishing in area lakes and also took many fishing trips to northern Minnesota. He enjoyed hunting for many years, and had raised greyhounds and Shetland ponies. Another favorite pastime was pitching horseshoes. In later years he spent time working jigsaw puzzles.
He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, where he had been an usher for more than 50 years, including ushering for funerals for the last 20 years.
Those grateful for sharing in his life include his three children, son, Richard Morris and his wife, Sherry, of Belmond, a daughter, Eileen Pross and her husband, Craig, of Mason City, and son, Dwight Morris and his wife, DeLores, of Belmond; eight grandchildren, Robert and Jennifer Morris, of Des Moines, Sonya and her husband, Daniel Nisley, of Gilman, Laurie and her husband, Mark Galloway, of Eagan, Minn., Leanne and her husband, Jon Alexandres, of Mason City, Joelyn and her husband, Michael Kelly, of Eagan, Minn., Ryan and his wife, Angella Pross, of Mason City, Cory and his wife, Linda Morris, of Iowa City and Daniel Morris, of Belmond; also 12 great-grandchildren Taylor, Lauren, and Logan Morris, Kyle, Jason, and Kayla Nisley, Meghan and Ben Galloway, Zach and Eric Alexandres, and Michael and Alyson Kelly. MARION - Katheryn M. Schmuecker, 71, of 1990 28th Ave., died Thursday (June 6, 2002) at her home, following a lengthy illness.
Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, with the Rev. Scott Boone officiating. A graveside committal service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Watkins.

Katheryn was born April 11, 1931, the daughter of Harold and Erna (Rogers) Schultheis, in Mason City.
In May 1949, Katheryn married Richard Lybarger. He died in August 1970. She then married Melvin Schmuecker on Oct. 7, 1978, at St. Pius Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
Katheryn worked as a secretary at Iowa Electric before retiring in 1990.
Katheryn enjoyed traveling with Melvin, photography and being with friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

CRYSTAL LAKE - John F. Brunsen, 85, died Thursday (June 6, 2002) at his home near Crystal Lake.
His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Woden, with the Rev. Arlen Lloyd officiating. Interment will be in Bingham Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Woden and one hour before services on Monday at the church.
John Friedrich Brunsen, the son of August and Hannah (Bruns) Brunsen, was born July 3, 1916, on a farm south of Woden in Orthel Township. He was baptized in the Christian Faith and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Woden. He attended Bingham No. 1 country school and Woden Independent.
In 1928, when John was 12 years old, he played French horn with the Woden Community Band. He finished the eighth grade in 1930 and worked for several farmers in the Woden area and later with his father, August.
On Sept. 1, 1940, he married Frances Helena Hilka Pannkuk at St. John's Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Bingham and Crystal Townships until retiring in 1981. John also did a lot of custom work, including corn shelling for area farmers and snow removal for the town of Woden.
For many years, John and Frances spent their winters in the south, mainly in Arizona. John enjoyed his family, fishing and gardening.
John was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he served in many capacities. Over the years, he was active in many organizations. He was a 4-H Leader, a country school director, chairman of Bingham Township School when the school closed and merged with Crystal Lake and was on the Woden Elevator board for 18 years.
He is survived by his wife, Frances, of Crystal Lake; three sons, Verne Brunsen and his wife, Sandra, of Garner, Daryl Brunsen and his wife, Karen, of Crystal Lake, and Lynn Brunsen and his special friend, Sharon, of West Chicago, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herb Brunsen, of Bentonville, Ark. and August Brunsen Jr. and his wife, Mary Ann, of Bloomington, Minn.; four sisters, Ann Kindl, of Iowa City, Burdella Purdy of Indianola, Bertha Leerar, of Britt, and Betty Sherman and her husband, Marvin, of Wilton; two sisters-in-law, Rosie Brunsen, of Britt and Mary Becker, of Charles City; and many nieces and nephews.

Thelma Violet (Wiebke) Kleinschmidt was born March 22, 1932, in Butler County, rural Clarksville. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Clara (Spier) Wiebke. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarksville on May 1, 1932, and later confirmed there. Thelma graduated from the Plainfield High School in 1950 and worked for Lutheran Mutual Insurance Co. in Waverly.
She was united in marriage to Norman K. Kleinschmidt at St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarksville on Dec. 28, 1952. To this union three children were born. Norman and Thelma made their home and farmed east of Greene for 37 years.
They moved to an acreage east of Nashua in 1989. Norman died Nov. 30, 1994. In February 1995, Thelma moved to Heritage Care Center in Mason City because of health reasons.
Thelma loved working on the farm next to her husband. She excelled in cooking, loved to garden, and loved spending time with her family. Her faith in God and the love of her family and friends kept her going.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Kleinschmidt; and her parents, Paul and Clara Wiebke.
Thelma is survived by her daughter and husband, Christa Ann and Ronald Guthrie, of Mason City; two sons and their wives, Robert and Vicki Kleinschmidt, of Holmen, Wis., and Richard and April Kleinschmidt, of Nashua; her sister and husband, Eileen Jo and Lloyd Korte, of Cedar Falls; two sisters-in-law, Norma Noel and Gladys Beninga, of Greene; and seven grandchildren, Christopher and Justin Witter, Kelly, Amy, and Kyle Kleinschmidt, and Seth and Alex Kleinschmidt; and many relatives and friends.

OSAGE - Katherine C. "Kay" Isaacs, 86, of Osage, died Thursday (June 6, 2002) at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.
Katherine was born April 26, 1916, in Staples, Minn., the daughter of Ralph and Minnie (Koch) Isaacs. She attended Osage Schools. She worked as an egg candler at Cedar Valley Produce in Osage for many years, and later she worked at the Farmers Produce in Osage until retirement.
Kay was a resident of Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for the past several years.
She loved fishing, archery, children, eating at Hardees and visiting with people.

ROCKFORD - Kevin Reiter, 28, of 800 13th St., West Des Moines, formerly of Rockford, died Wednesday (June 5, 2002) in Des Moines from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.
His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church, Rockford. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Kevin was born May 28, 1974, the son of Merlyn and Ramona (Jackson) Reiter, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City. He graduated from R-R-MR in the class of 1992 and went on to Hawkeye Community College to study turf management.
He was the golf course superintendent at Sunny Brae Golf Course in Osage, and then at Rockford Golf and Country Club. Then Kevin became the second assistant at Elmcrest Golf and Country Club.
In October 1998 he moved to Des Moines and began working for the Des Moines Golf and Country Club as first assistant superintendent of the north course. One of Kevin's career highlights was working to prepare the course for the 1999 Senior Open. Kevin loved the game of golf and enjoyed every minute working on the course. He often spoke of nature's beauty in the birds singing and the animals busy at work, especially the swans.
Kevin had many passions in his life including trout fishing, traveling (especially flying), watching sports, attending Iowa Hawkeye football games, going to the health club, and watching NASCAR.
He looked forward to the time he was able to spend with his friends, favorite English Bulldog "Lucy," and his two very special nieces. Kevin's pride and joy was his 1966 Ford Mustang he refurbished.

He served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He later worked in the dairy-creamery business, then owned and operated Wallskog Resort, St. Olaf Lake, near New Richland, Minn.
Albert was a life member of the American Legion and enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine C. Florence Schroeder was born March 29, 1910, in rural Latimer, the daughter of Sebo and Johanna (Halfwassen) Dannen. She attended country school near Chapin and worked at home.
On July 3, 1928, Florence was united in marriage with Carl Diedrich Schroeder. They farmed near Chapin and eventually moved into Sheffield, where she has lived since. For many years she did book work for her sons who had milk routes in the area.
Florence was a member of First United Methodist Church and the church women' s groups as well as the Senior Citizen's club. She enjoyed quilting and made quilts for each member of her family. She also loved to crochet and bake. The time spent with her family was very special to her and she treasured their visits.

VIVIAN E. WALLS
CLEAR LAKE - Vivian E. Walls, 93, formerly of Clear Lake, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City.
Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held today from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home and also one hour before the service on Monday.

Vivian was born Aug.19, 1908, the daughter of Frank Elisha Daker and Nina Abigal (Parker) Daker in Clear Lake. Vivian attended Lake No. 1 rural school and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1926. After receiving her normal teaching certificate she taught at Lake No. 1 for two and one half years.
Vivian married Russell Walls on Dec. 24, 1927, in Mason City, and they lived on the family farm until moving to Clear Lake in 1968.
Vivian was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rural Lakettes, Sorosis Club, and a church circle.
She enjoyed reading, handwork, knitting, crafts and loved to cook.
Vivian is survived by three sisters-in-law, Lois and her husband, Russell Fulghum, of Clear Lake, Marjorie Walls, of Clear Lake, and Pauline Walls, of Oklahoma; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell, on April 4, 1986; and two sons, Robert and Duane Walls.

FORT DODGE - Megan L. VerHelst, 16, of Fort Dodge, died Friday (June 7, 2002) at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, First Ave. N. and 10th St., Fort Dodge, with the Rev. Gordon Watson officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Mason City.

Survivors include her mother, Christine VerHelst and step-father, Craig Anderson, of Fort Dodge; her father, Don VerHelst and step-mother, Monica, of Mason City; brother, Alex, of Fort Dodge; sisters, Margie, of Des Moines, and Megan Elizabeth, of Mason City; grandparents, Mae Greene, of Mason City, Gerald VerHelst and Peggy, of Warsaw, Mo., Carol VerHelst and Roger, of Nora Springs, Donald and Rosemary Anderson, of Mason City, Rowland and Virginia "Copas" Baxton; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Robert Greene.
Megan Lynn VerHelst was born on July 14, 1985, in Mason City. She attended Madison Elementary School in Mason City. In 1992, she moved with her family to Fort Dodge. Megan had recently finished the eleventh grade at Fort Dodge Senior High School.
When Megan was not working at the Village Inn as a hostess, she spent most of her free time with her best friends, Callista, Becka, Erin, Torrey, and her boyfriend Tony. She enjoyed being outdoors, horseback riding, rock collecting, and campfires. She loved playing Nintendo with her brother, Alex, writing poetry and collecting unicorns. Megan was an avid animal lover who would care for any animal whether it needed her help or not.
She was a member of the French Club, Debate Team, and Symphonic Band, where she played the trumpet. She was also a member of the color guard in the marching band. Megan will be forever remembered and greatly missed by her family and friends.

Bob was born Sept. 1, 1937, in Melbourne, Iowa, the son of Willard and Viola (Nelson) Holman. He graduated from Melbourne High School. Bob served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 until his discharge in 1960. He moved to Las Vegas, Nev., in 1970.
Bob married Nancy Stinehart May 1, 1982, in Las Vegas. They moved to Clear Lake in 1988 where Bob worked in sales for Woodford Wheeler Lumber Co. He retired in October of 2000. Bob enjoyed traveling and will be terribly missed by his family.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy L. Holman, of Clear Lake; daughter, Tracy Griffin, of Bend, Ore.; sons, Brian Holman and wife Stacy, of Denton, Texas, Robert Holman, of Salem, Ore.; daughter, Julie Brookman and husband John, of Las Vegas, Nev.; and six grandchildren.
