A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 5th St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.

"Limie" was born July 23, 1910, in Mason City, the son of Thomas and Mary (Powers) LaVille. He attended Mason City High School. Limie was united in marriage to Maxine Elizabeth Fisher on Sept.26, 1936, in Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City.
Clarence and Maxine became engaged during the Great Depression. They decided that they would marry after saving $1,000 in the bank. After five years, they married at Holy Family Catholic Church at 6 a.m., because they both had to go to work that day.
They dreamed of a time when they could own their own business and in 1943 they purchased their first grocery store. A couple of years later, they moved to the store on Carolina and opened
"LaVille's Carolina Grocery." Since they both understood what it was like to have little money, they offered credit to many of their patrons over the next 18 years. Limie's generosity even extended to opening his home to children of families that fell on hard times or whose parents needed to leave the state to find work. The LaVille home was always bustling with the activities of company.
They sold the grocery store in 1963 and found other employment, until they had the opportunity to again run their own business in Shell Rock. After running "Limie's Tap and Grill" for a few years, they opened "The Sweetheart Corner," an ice cream store and restaurant next to their old tavern. Limie always said he named the new business after Maxine.
Finally, they decided to retire and returned to Mason City. However, neither one wished to stop working. Maxine became a 3000-hour worker, heading up the volunteer program at Mercy Hospital, and Limie became active as a bartender and cook at the Plaza Restaurant, the Elks Club, Moose Club, and especially at the Knights of Columbus. Limie was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was a 4th Degree Knight, and an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He assisted at the church, supervising ushers for various funerals and weddings throughout the week. He was a valued representative in the SCORE organization and advised dozens of new businesses throughout northern Iowa. His exceptional volunteer work defines the generous, loving, humorous and Christian man he was. Clarence and Maxine were married for more than 60 years. After she passed away, Clarence moved to Marshalltown to live with Tom and Cheryl.
Limie is survived by his son, Thomas LaVille and wife, Cheryl; four grandchildren, Joa Mercer and husband, Terry, Jennifer Sweval and husband, David, Joshua LaVille and John LaVille; and four great- grandchildren, Ryan LaVille, Kennedy LaVille, Rebecca Trow and William Sweval.
