ANGELINE MATALONI

MASON CITY - Angeline Mataloni, 89, of 1514 N. Madison, died Monday (Jan. 10, 2000) at Community Hospital, Grand Junction, Colo.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City, with Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City. A scriptural wake service will begin at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed for Masses in memory of Angeline Mataloni.

Angeline was born Aug. 14, 1910, in Mason City, the daughter of Antonio and Rose Abbate. Ann worked as a self-employed seamstress for over 60 years in the Mason City area.

She married Joseph Mataloni on Aug. 4, 1928, in Mason City.

Ann enjoyed her sewing, family and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Ladies Aid of Holy Family.

Ann is survived by two daughters, Theresa Tait, Tucson, Ariz., and JoAnn Nelson and her husband, Jim, of Grand Junction, Colo.; five grandchildren, Karen Romersa, Tempe, Ariz., Kristin Tait, Scottsdale, Ariz., Bill W. Tait and his wife, Jennifer, Southerlin, Ore., Harold W. Tait, Grand Junction, Colo., and Tracy Raich and her husband, David, Wayne, N.J.; nine great-grandchildren, Hal W. Tait III, Starlyn Tait, Lauren Tait, Krystal Tait, Jesse Tait, Robert Tait, Roslyn Tait, Allyson Raich and Wyatt Raich; one sister, Kay DiMarco, Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; three sisters; and two brothers in infancy.

AVIS A. STRIKE

NASHUA - Avis A. Strike, 91, died Friday (Jan. 14, 2000) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Congregational Church, Nashua. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home, Nashua, and will resume one hour prior to services at the church Monday.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Avis A. Strike was born March 9, 1908, at Nashua, the daughter of Reginald and Rena (Springer) Stuelke. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1925 and received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, in 1965.

Avis married Hollis D. Strike on Dec. 10, 1927.

She taught school for seven years in rural Nashua schools and 16 years at Nashua Elementary School. She retired in 1970.

Avis is survived by two sons and their spouses, Marvin and Marjorie Strike, of Waukon, and Burton and Marlis Strike, of Newton; two daughters, Beverly Bennett, of Atlantic, and Marilyn Strike, of Mason City; one sister, Margaret Barth of Allison; one sister-in-law, Gladys Strike, of Nashua; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis "Hod" Strike on Jan. 15, 1998; one daughter, Shirley Jean Strike; three brothers, Gaylord, Wendell and Theron Stuelke; and one sister, Lucille Ryan.

STUART DORN ERICKSON

IOWA FALLS - Stuart Dorn Erickson, 66, died Friday (Jan. 14, 2000, at his home in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will held at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, with the Rev. Brian King officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Full military rites will be provided by Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188 of Iowa Falls.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Suris Funeral Home, 505 Stevens St., Iowa Falls. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Stuart Dorn Erickson was born on May 5, 1933, in Cloquet, Minn., the son of Glen and Alice Phipps Erickson. He graduated from Cloquet, Minn., High School in 1951 and then attended Gale Telegraph School in Minneapolis.

He was a member of the U. S. Army from 1953-55 as a paratrooper in the 503rd Infantry Regiment.

On Nov. 6, 1955, he married Gladys Ness in Holt, Minn.

Stuart was a telegrapher clerk and agent of the Rock Island Railroad for 30 years.

He was a member of the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188 of Iowa Falls and Mason Home Lodge No. 192 of Iowa Falls.

Stuart was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; three sons, Brian Erickson and his wife, Diane, and their children, James and Jennifer, of Belmond, Mark Erickson and his wife, Susan, and their children, Kara and Kassie, of Belmond, and Scott Erickson and his wife, Connie, and their children, Ben, Chad and Amy, of Garner; a brother, Dale Erickson, of Duluth, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Irene Harstad, of Big Lake, Minn; a brother-in-law, Orlin Ness, of Holt, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Alan; and an aunt, Doris Phipps.

BRITT - Alfred Mitchell Trulson, 51, formerly of Britt, died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.

TOM BERREGAARD

COULTER - Tom Berregaard, 84, died Friday (Jan. 14, 2000) at Mercy Hospital North Iowa from complications of pneumonia.

Tom was born on Jan. 12, 1916, in Thisted, Denmark, the son of Soren and Bertha (Jensen) Bjerregaard. He attended several universities in Sweden, Germany, England and Denmark. While at the University of Cambridge in England, he was awarded Best Boatman on Oars in international competition. He held Ph.D. degrees in forestry, landscape architecture, surveying and civil engineering, and he held professorships in forestry and civil engineering. He was a colonel in the Royal British Air Force.

He immigrated to the United States in 1951 and became a naturalized citizen on April 10, 1958.

He was an avid sportsman and fisherman. He was a true naturalist. Tom was known as the "Tree Doctor" and operated his own tree and landscaping business.

Those surviving and thankful for sharing Tom's life include his wife, Nancy Berregaard of Coulter; one son, Dan, and his wife, Lori, and their children, Danielle, Emily, Hannah and Elijah Berregaard, of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Suzie Berregaard and her children, Shianne and Samuel Thomas, of Des Moines. Tom had six brothers and two sisters. One sister, Birgit Toft, lives in California, the others remained in Denmark.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and several brothers.

According to his wishes, Tom's body will be cremated, which will take place at Cremation Services of North Iowa. A private family service will take place at a later date.

Cards of sympathy and /or contributions to a memorial fund set up in his name at the Fish and Wildlife Division of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources can be sent to his wife at P.O. Box 117, Coulter, IA 50431.

CHARLES CITY - Allene Metheny, 78, of 303 St. Mary's St., died Friday (Jan. 14, 2000) at her home.

LOIS P. KASTER

VENTURA -Lois P. Kaster, 90, of 307 Sixth St. S.E., Mason City, formerly of Ventura, died Friday (Jan. 14, 2000) at the Mason City Homestead Assisted Living Residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Ventura United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Hasel officiating. Interment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.

The family suggests that memorials be directed to the Lois P. Kaster Memorial Fund.

Lois was born Jan. 10, 1910, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Charles Chester and Ida (Paul) Dawson. She graduated from Clear Lake High School.

Lois married Harold (Tuffy) Kaster June 5, 1928. They later established Kasters Cove, Ventura, which they owned and operated until her husband's death in 1976. After her daughter's death in 1986, she moved to Mason City to be by her brother Milton Dawson.

Lois enjoyed politics, traveling and going out to dinner with her friends.

Lois is survived by a nephew, Merrill Dawson, and his wife, Phyllis, and their family, Belleville, Ill, and also several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold in 1976; a daughter, Patricia in 1986; two brothers, Milton and Max Dawson; and two sisters, Violet and Mary Dawson.

JAMES "J" OHDEN

FLOYD - James "J" Ohden, 21, died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) as a result of a car accident near Marble Rock.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eden Presbyterian Church, rural Rudd, with the Rev. John Bates officiating. Interment will be in Eden Presbyterian Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Champion Funeral Home, Osage, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.

James was born Nov. 30, 1978, in Osage, the son of Jim and Barb (Wiltse) Ohden. J attended Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock schools and graduated in 1997. While in school he participated in football and basketball and he was member of the 4-H and FFA organizations.

After J graduated he worked construction for a short time and then worked for Trettins in Rockford. Most recently he worked for Balsam Co-op in Rockford.

J was a member of the Eden Presbyterian Church. In his spare time he enjoyed working on his car and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his parents, Jim and Barb Ohden, Floyd; two sisters, Jamie Ohden and Juli Ohden, Floyd; grandparents, John and Alice Ohden, Floyd, Vernon and Elizabeth Redwine, Osage, and Bob and Cindy Wiltse, Charles City; great-grandmother, Viola Wiltse, Charles City; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

J was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandparents and maternal great-grandfather.

BRITT - Esther Tjaden, 92, of Britt, died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at Westview Care Center in Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Christian Reformed Church in Britt (at the new location) with the Rev. Steve Mulder officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in the Woden Christian Reformed Church Cemetery near Woden.

MARTIN BENNETT

FOREST CITY - Martin Bennett, 84, of Forest City, died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at the Hampton Health Care Center.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with the Rev. David Samuelson officiating. Burial will be in Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City, where family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Martin O. Bennett was born on a farm near Allison, on Dec. 29, 1915, the son of Frank and Hattie (Womack) Bennett. He received his education in the Allison school district. His family lived in the Alma and Lime Springs area before later moving to Missouri. Martin returned to Iowa and began working for area farmers.

He married Lillian Eide on July 3, 1937, in Hastings, Minn. The couple spent most of their married lives farming in the Riceville, Iowa, and Leroy, Minn., area. They moved to Forest City in 1969 where Martin began working for Winnebago Industries.

After retiring in 1980 he began doing yard and garden work for people in Forest City. He loved being outdoors and thrived on the physical effort. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He moved to the Hampton Health Care Center in October 1996.

Survivors include two sons and their spouses, Gary and Diane Bennett of Latimer, and Robert and Claudine Bennett, of Poulsbo, Wash.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Delbert Bennett of Willow Springs, Mo.; and a special friend, Evelyn Waggener of Forest City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, his parents, four brothers and four sisters.

OSAGE - John Dostart, 79, of Osage, died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at Faith Home, Osage, of natural causes.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1209 State St., Osage, with the Rev. Philip Recker officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery at New Haven.

John Dostart was born March 1, 1920, at New Haven, the son of Stephen and Katherine (Michels) Dostart. He attended New Haven Schools.

He married Maxine Francis Nov. 11, 1939, at New Haven. He was employed for many years by Waterloo Implement Company. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Dostart of Osage; two daughters, Patricia Jean Theilen of Nashua, and Barbara Ann Thomas and husband, Leonard, of Montana; one son, Steven Joseph Dostart and wife, Tina, of Evansville; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Joan Marie Dostart; one son, Jerry Lee Dostart; two sisters, Lillian Blonigan and Aileen Cagley; and one brother, Leon Dostart.

MARBLE ROCK - Funeral services for Franklin D. Mullen, 57, of 697 N. Barrington Rd, Springdale, Ark., formerly of Marble Rock, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene with burial in the Westside Cemetery in Marble Rock.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Memorial Funeral Home in Springdale, Ark.

Local visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene and will continue from 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday.

Franklin D. Mullen was born Dec. 8, 1942 in Swaledale, Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, a son of Abraham Leonard and Bessie Margaret (Woodside) Mullen and died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at the Northwest Medical Center in Springdale, Ark. of cancer.

He received his education in the rural schools in Ulster Township, Floyd County and as a young man started working for Dale Vanderlan Auto Salvage in Charles City. He served in the United States Army and following his discharge he lived in Des Moines delivering Highland Potato Chips.

He later lived in Arizona for a short time before moving to Arkansas. He was last employed as a certified service technician for Richard Mayes Auto in Fayetteville, Ark.

He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Weyher on Feb. 14, 1976.

Frank was a professional Bass Fisherman having won the Poor Boy Bass Tournament in 1975. He was a member of several Bass Clubs. He was a member of the Brush Creek Baptist Church in Tontitown, Ark.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou, of Springdale, Ark.; one son, Brian Weyher, of Fruitland, Wash.; one daughter, Barbara Thayer, of Rogers, Ark.; his mother, Bessie Mullen, of Greene; two sisters and their spouses, Mary Ann and Cecil Myers, of Greene and Betty Jean and James Larsen, of Wapello; one brother, Dan and his wife, Carolyn Mullen, of Greene.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Edward.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Franklin D. Mullen Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Alfred was born Nov. 23, 1934 to Hazel and Henry Young in Mason City. He went to school and grew up in Mason City. His church was the Salvation Army.

He worked for several cafes and night clubs and later the Sugar Beet Plant in Mason City.

In June of 1955, he married Mildred Miller in Mason City. They divorced in 1974.

He is survived by sisters and brothers, Thelma Dickson, Marvin Young, Jeanette Lindner, Alvin Young and Eva Craig; and six children, Ellen Andersen, Sharon Wilde, Micheal Young, Ardella Young, Danny Young and David Young and numerous grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Ruth Young.

MASON CITY - Evelyn R. Tass, 79, of Mason City, died Tuesday (Jan. 18, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

According to her wishes, her body was donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines.

MARSHALLTOWN - Romoeo G. Calicchia, 83, of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, died Monday (Jan. 17, 2000) at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City, with Jon Schank of the Hillside Church of Christ in Marshalltown officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel in Marshalltown.

A memorial fund has been established in his name.

He was born Feb. 22, 1916, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Rose (Fia) Calicchia where he attended the Mason City Schools. He entered the United States Navy in December 1941, where he worked as a submariner and also became friends with the five Sullivan Brothers of Waterloo, Iowa.

Following his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, he returned home to the Mason City area and worked as a manufacturer for the Northwestern Cement Plant in Mason City and the Oliver Plant in Charles City. He later moved to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown where he was employed in the maintenance department for many years.

He was also an avid fan of baseball.

He is survived by one brother, Orlando Calicchia; one sister, Yolanda Mariner; one niece, Virginia Blakesly; and several other nieces and nephews, all of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edward.

FRIEDA M. THORSON

MASON CITY - Frieda M. Thorson, 92, of 528 N. Harrison Ave., died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at the Manly Care Center.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Fredricksburg, with the Rev. Nanette Tomilson of the United Methodist Church of Fredricksburg officiating.

There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the Frieda M. Thorson Memorial Fund.

Frieda was born Feb. 21, 1907, in Rockford, the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth (Schroeder) Jost. Frieda attended Mason City High School and Hamilton Business College. She worked on the farm for many years then as a laundry finisher at the I.O.O.F. Home for 26 years, retiring in 1981.

Frieda is survived by her daughter, Marianne E. Braun, of Rochester, Minn.; granddaughter, Dianne M. Braun, of Homestead, Fla.; grandson, Jeffrey E. Braun, of Rochester, Minn.; and brother, Paul Jost, of Modesto, Calif.

Frieda was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Mayo; second husband, Selmer Thorson; and one sister, Esther Jost.

CHARLES LEWIS SAGE

PLACERVILLE, Calif. - Charles Lewis Sage, 74, died Dec. 30, 1999. He was a resident of Placerville, Calif.

Mr. Sage was born Dec. 21, 1925, in Mason City, Iowa. He moved with his family to Richmond, Calif., During World War II, at which time he was proud to serve as a Merchant Marine.

After the war he received his auto apprenticeship and became a master mechanic. He actively pursued his trade for 50-plus years. During those years he traveled and worked around the world.

His wife, Marge; a son, Michael Sage; a daughter, Susan Sarte; two stepsons, Gregg and Larry LaComb; and a stepdaughter, Dianne Osburn, survive him. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.

Services and interment will be private.

Remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association, American Lung Association or the American Diabetes Association.

ST. CHARLES, Ill. - Linda Karen Aamondt, 50, of St. Charles, died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at her home.

Local services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, Northwood, with the Rev. Al Stoa officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.

Linda was born on Sept. 28, 1949, in St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of Swan "Art" and Lilja Swanson. She was a graduate of St. Paul Johnson High School in Minnesota. Linda majored in elementary education and minored in English at Mankato State University, Mankato, Minn.

Linda and her husband of 26 years, Craig, and their family have been residents of St. Charles for 11 years. For the past seven years, teaching preschool children about Jesus at the First Baptist Church, of St. Charles, demonstrated her love of teaching little ones about the Lord.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Geneva and Bible Study Fellowship. Prior to her teaching ministry, she was actively involved in helping to establish their family business, Independent Telecom Consultants.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her loving husband, Craig; her children, Carl and Larissa, both of St. Charles; two sisters, Nancy (Dick) Roen, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Gloria (Paul) Michaelson, of Bloomington, Minn.; and three nieces and nephews.

DOWS - Henry Ernest Crooks, 85, of Dows, died on Monday (Jan. 17, 2000) at the USA Healthcare in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett, with the Rev. Selmer G. Hernes officiating. Burial will be at the Kensett Cemetery.

Henry was born to Perry and Alma (Ries) Crooks on Oct. 4, 1914, at Dougherty, Iowa, the second of four children. His father was a farmhand and the family moved nearly every spring, living various places in Mitchell and Cerro Gordo counties.

Henry attended one-room schools through the eighth grade. He left the parental home at the age of 14 and began working as a farmhand. He continued to help support his parents until he married at the age of 23.

Alfrieda Pagel became his bride on May 11, 1938. They were married in the Immanuel Lutheran pastor's parsonage at St. Ansgar.

Henry loved horses and even after automobiles and tractors replaced horses, Henry still managed to have a horse or pony around. The family lived at Otranto, Mitchell and Carpenter, where they lived for seven years in the place they referred to as "The Woods."

They moved to Kensett in 1955, where they lived for 10 years. The family moved to the Nevada area where he was employed as a custodian, first at the Nevada Community Schools and later at Iowa State University.

Henry loved polka music, practical jokes and will be remembered for his sense of humor. He was a loving father who did all he could to provide for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Wilbur Crooks, Mary Beyer and Otto Crooks; granddaughter, Lisa DiMarco; and son-in-law, James Loftaas.

Henry is survived by his wife, Alfrieda, of Dows; sons, Adrian, of Story City and Randolph and his wife, Kathy, of Ames; daughters, Carolyn Loftaas of Kensett, Glenita Brown and her husband, Stanley, of Rock Falls, Marjorie Tuthill and her husband, Richard, of Kensett, Cynthia Mallette of Boone, Mary Casterton and her husband, Gene, of Mason City, Ramona Parkin and her husband, Gary, of Norwalk, Rosalie Enfield and her husband, Calvin, of Collins; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

DENNIS W. WINTERS

ROCKFORD - Dennis W. Winters, 41, of Rockford, died Sunday (Jan. 16, 2000) at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, of complications from a heart condition.

Funeral services for Dennis Winters will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, 21 Third St. N.W., Rockford, with the Rev. Rosemary Rohde-Frank officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p. m. today at the Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 West Main Ave., Rockford, and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Dennis W. Winters was born March 13, 1958, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Gerald Dale and Eileen Jeanette (Murphy) Winters. He was raised and attended school in Rockford. Dennis worked in the various fields of automobile mechanics. He had also been a farm hand for Ralph Martin.

Dennis had a deep love and strong affection for cars of all sorts, but most especially his '68 Dodge Coronet, which he affectionately named "Sweet Candy." Dennis also showed his love of cars by being a member of the Winters Drag Racing Team. He was also a gifted freehand artist.

He will be dearly missed by his family who endeared the nicknames of "Stringbean" and "Dennis the Menace," and by his nieces and nephews who called him "Bones."

Those thankful for sharing Dennis' life are his parents, Jerry and Eileen Winters, of Charles City; nine brothers and sisters, Jerry Dale Winters and his wife, Denise, of Parkesburg, Pa., Jim Winters and his wife, Bunnie, of Clear Lake, Dennis' twin brother, David Winters and his wife, Kim, of Charles City, Debbie Schmitt, of Mason City, Don Winters and special friend, Susan Benken, of Mason City, Jeff Winters of Rockford, Phillip Winters of Charles City, Paul Winters and his wife, Dawn, of Brodhead, Wis. and Peggy Feltus and her husband, Dan, of Allison, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and one great-nephew.

NORINE M. WICKLUND

CHARLES CITY - Norine M. Wicklund, 81, a resident of 1106 Ellis Drive, died peacefully at home on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 22, 2000.

A funeral Mass for Norine Wicklund will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, with the Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at Evergreen Park, Ill.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 South Main St., Charles City, from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be a vigil scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 9 a.m. until noon at the funeral home and Tuesday afternoon at the church one hour prior to the Mass.

Memorials may be directed to the Immaculate Conception School or Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Norine M. Shinnick Wicklund was born Oct. 30, 1918, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of John J. and Mary V. Shinnick. She attended St. Gabriels Catholic Grammar School and Laretto High School in Chicago. Before marriage she worked as a bookkeeper.

On June 2, 1945, she married Arvid John Wicklund in Miami, Fla. After the war, they made their home in Chicago, where she concentrated on being a wife and a mother. Later she returned to various bookkeeping positions until retiring from McDonald's Corporation in 1981 to move to Charles City to help with raising her grandchildren. She was active in the Charles City Senior Citizens, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Lay Carmelites, St. Anthony's Circle and the Charles City Women's Club. She loved sports, talking and visiting with friends, and participating in the lives of her grandchildren.

Living family members include two daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Sam) Soifer of Charles City, and Jo Ann (Mrs. Dave) Robinson of Fonthill, Ont., Canada; two sons, John Wicklund of Romeoville, Ill., and Bill and his wife, Pat Wicklund, of Naperville, Ill.; six grandchildren, Scott, Shawn and Regina Soifer and Matt, Jessica and Eric Wicklund.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1975; a son, James Raymond; a daughter, Mary Beth; three unnamed children; two brothers, Bernie and Jack; and a sister, Mary.

ALBERT LEA, MINN. - Funeral services for Margaret LaVon Benner, 79, of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of St. Theodore, Albert Lea, with the Rev. Louis Cook officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Newry.

LaVon died Friday (Jan. 21, 2000) at the Albert Lea Medical Center.

Margaret LaVon Benner was born July 14, 1920, in Britt, the daughter of Tom and Margaret (Horstman) O'Rourke. She grew up and attended school in Britt.

On March 26, 1940, she married Lester G. Benner in Britt. They moved to Mason City after their marriage and to Hollandale in 1954, where they farmed. In 1974, they moved into Albert Lea. She was a former member of St. Mary's Church, Newry, a member of the Church of St. Theodore, Albert Lea, a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, and a member of Solo Parents. She loved to play bingo and traveled on cruises and many trips to Europe. She loved dancing and joke-telling. She was famous for her baked beans. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Georgia Alt and her special friend, Virgil Grosland, Kay and her husband, Tom Sawyer, all of Albert Lea, Charles and his wife, Joyce Benner, of Austin, Minn., William Benner, of Albert Lea, Sheila and her husband, Dan McNallan, of Viola, John Benner, of Minneapolis, Minn., Marie Schaub and her husband, Terry Hockert, of Lino Lakes, Minn., and Brian Benner, of Albert Lea; 15 grandchildren, Roger Alt, Lisa Deyo, Cindy Fosenburg, Debbie Grausam, Diane Moore, Todd Benner, Troy Benner, Char Skogheim, Brad Benner, Chad Benner, Sheena Meyers, Matt McNallan, Shelly Rahman, Jenny McNallan and Damien Schaub; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her very special friends, Thelma Hall and Blanche Wogen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester in 1966; granddaughter, Tammy Benner, in 1992; son-in-law, Jake Alt, in 1995; and her brothers, Cecil, Leon, Jack and Warren O'Rourke.

She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Blessed be her memory.

BRITT - Mary E. (Betty) Boothroyd, 78, of Britt, passed away Friday (Jan. 21, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt, with Father Marvin Bries officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Britt.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ewing Funeral Home, Britt, where there will be a 7:30 p.m. parish wake service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.

Mary, the daughter of Frederick H. and Mary (Mc Namara) Paranteau, was born May 15, 1921, in Dudley, Mass. In 1942 she graduated from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester, Mass. She accepted a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force Corp of Nurses and was stationed in Gulfport at Gulfport Air Field, Miss., where she met and married Edwin L. Boothroyd on July 21, 1944. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Britt.

Survivors include her husband, Edwin; two sons, Edwin R. and his wife, Mary Lou, of Britt and James and his wife, Maria, of Mason City; three grandsons, Todd and his wife, Kara, of Clive, Tony and his wife, Mina, of West Des Moines and Toby of Britt; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia and her husband, Edwin Devlin; and one nephew and his wife, all of Dudley, Mass.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, one sister and her twin brother.
