** Jae Mari Ring

HAMPTON-— In the early morning hours of Tuesday, February 2, l999, Jae Mari Ring (nee Kragel) of Brookfield, Wisconsin left us and joined the heavenly choir in her new 'home'. She had battled bravely for many months to overcome the lung cancer that took her life at the age of 47. Born the daughter of Herb and Lonnie Kragel on September 1, l951 of Hampton, Jae weighed in at 5 lbs. 6 oz. In the following years she was joined by two sisters and a brother: Kate Dahlman, now of Duluth, Kerr Aufderheide, now of Marianna, Florida and Jim Kragel, now of Cedarville, Ohio.

In September of l970, Jae married Bob Ring of Medford, Minnesota and they moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where Bob was to teach English at the Wisconsin Lutheran High School and Jae was to complete her nursing degree at Alverno College. Jae worked for many years as an OB nurse at the Milwaukee County Medical Center. She became the busy mother of two daughters, Kristi Westergaard (nee Ring) and Michal Ring, both of Hopkins, Minnesota.

Jae was widely known in her church circle for her accomplishments as a pianist. She played for the area Lutheran Woman's Retreat for 15 years and was one of the original founders of a group of four church women from Christ the Lord Lutheran Church in Brookfield. This well-known women's retreat began with 30 attendees and today has 800 women attending the annual retreat plus creating satellite retreats all over the Midwest area.

Jae walked among us with a generosity of spirit that touched us in ways that affirmed and accepted who each of us is. She loved people and she loved to laugh.

Jae knew how to 'hang out' and yet her deep spirituality reached out and covered everything she did and was. One could rely on it and understand better what it means to 'love God' and to put Him first in one's life. She was our example in all good things yet never seemed 'holier than thou' . She was rooted in Christ and it showed towards her family and towards everyone she met.

Jae passed away on February 2, 1999 at Community Memorial Hospital, of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Her funeral was at Christ the Lord Lutheran Church in Brookfield, on Friday evening, Feb. 5, l999. Burial was in Faribault, Minnesota on Tuesday, Feb. 9. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Someone wrote these words which describe how her family and friends feel about Jae.

"You are a reflection of who I am, When I am comfortable with you.

I feel the acceptance you offer, And open up to the beauty in myself.

When we come together with the broken pieces of our lives, When we share, instead of cover pain, And when we stop accepting others' solutions to our problems, We begin to learn that there are no answers to the 'why's; Then there is value to our being broken Wisdom flows as insights strengthen each of us. Letting others see our shattered pieces, Gives them courage to face their own."

And finally and fully, Isaiah 61:10 describes Jae's present condition:

"I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God;

For He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation; He has covered me with the robes of righteousness; As a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels."

Yes, Jae, you have touched each of our lives for the better- and we thank you for having lived among us and directed us to the feet of our risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!!
