** Leona M. Heagel

MASON CITY - Leona M. Heagel, 76, of Mason City, died Wednesday (Feb. 10, 1999) at the Manly Healthcare Center.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, 210 Willowbrook Dr., S.W., Mason City. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Other arrangements are incomplete at the Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel.

** Elmer Olson

FOREST CITY - Elmer Olson, 86, of Forest City, died Monday (Feb. 8, 1999) at the Good Samaritan Center, Forest City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church, Forest City, with the Rev. Richard Newgard officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark, Forest City.

Elmer G. Olson was born on a farm near Leland, on June 16, 1912, the son of Gilbert and Betsy (Quam) Olson. He attended rural school near his home and graduated from Lake Mills High School.

He married Doris Hagenson in Thompson, on April 7, 1946. The couple made their home on a farm east of Leland for several years.

They moved to Forest City where Elmer owned and operated the Champlain Gas Station. He later sold the station and moved east of Forest City. There Elmer farmed for several years before beginning work at Winnebago Industries. He retired in 1977 and the couple moved into Forest City in 1994.

Elmer was a member of Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards and woodworking. He entered the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City in March 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Olson, of Forest City; a son and his wife, David and Wendy Olson, of Mason City; a brother and his wife, Harry and Irmgaard Olson, of Maplewood, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, and five sisters.

** Vera Bork

GRAFTON - Vera Bork, 92, died Tuesday (Feb. 9, 1999) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ernest Thompson officiating. Interment will be in the Grafton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Champion Funeral Home, Osage, is in charge of arrangements.

Vera Bork was born Aug. 11, 1906, in Eden Valley, Minn.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Bork of Maitland, Fla., and Jack Bork of Grafton; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Arminda Buechele of Grafton, and Berneice Maker of Corvallis, Mont.; and one brother, the Rev. Harry Rappath of Prescott, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, and a brother.

** Lloyd B. Myhre

CLEAR LAKE - Lloyd B. Myhre, 73, of 113 N. Eighth St., died Tuesday (Feb. 9, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., and one hour before the service on Friday at the church.

The family suggests memorials to the Lloyd B. Myhre Memorial Fund.

Lloyd was born Aug. 3, 1925, on a farm southwest of Fertile, the son of Bennett and Molly (Nelson) Myhre. He graduated from Fertile High School in 1941.

Lloyd served in the United States Navy during World War II. On April 13, 1946, he married Velma Johnson in Cedar Falls. Following the service he returned to rural Fertile to farm. They moved to Clear Lake in the early '50s and have lived in their present home since 1957.

He worked at various garages in the Mason City area and later worked for Montgomery Wards in the TV and Service Department in Mason City and Albert Lea, Minn. In 1973, he started working for the Mason City Municipal Airport in the outside maintenance department, and continued to work there until he retired in 1991.

Lloyd was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Velma Myhre, of Clear Lake; three children, Gary Myhre and his wife, Barb, of Woodlands, Texas, Mike Myhre of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Julie Robinson and her husband, Wayne, of Lexington, S.C.; six grandchildren, Ryan Robinson, Gina Robinson, Heather Myhre, Jonny Myhre, Alyssa Vriezlaar and Abby Vriezlaar; and one sister, Delilah Olson of Forest City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Ruth Wolfe.

** Leslie Edwards

FOREST CITY - Leslie Edwards, 80, died Tuesday (Feb. 9, 1999) at Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Samuelson officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in the West Bend Cemetery, West Bend.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark, Forest City.

Leslie E. Edwards was born in Ottosen, Iowa, on July 21, 1918, the son of Omer and Bertina (Nelson) Edwards. He attended school in West Bend.

He married Marian Frohling on Feb. 7, 1942, in Bethany, Mo. Leslie served with the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. Following his discharge from the service, Leslie and Marian made their home in Emmetsburg. The couple later began farming near West Bend.

In 1959, the couple came to Forest City. Leslie was one of the first seven employees to begin working at Winnebago Industries. He continued there until his retirement in 1980.

Leslie loved music. He played in bands and sang with a barbershop quartet. Although he never had a lesson, he was a talented pianist, playing by ear. He shared his love of music with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and loved spending time with his family.

Leslie is survived by his wife, Marian Edwards of Mason City; two sons and their spouses, David and Carol Edwards of Westminster, Colo., and Robert and Kristine Edwards of Ankeny; three daughters and their spouses, Gloria and Tom Craft of Fountain Hills, Ariz., Rebecca and Tim Heidenwirth of Greene, and Tammy and Jerry Den Hartog of Clear Lake; a brother, Lyle Edwards of Emmetsburg; two sisters, Florence Bendle of Hooper, Neb., and Delores Gagnon of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Leslie was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Russell, Orin, Clarence (Bud), Harold, Floyd, Donnie and Dick Edwards; and a sister, Lois Edwards.

** Mildred Katherine Thompson

HAMPTON - Mildred Katherine Thompson, 93, died Tuesday (Feb. 9, 1999) at Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Letts Cemetery, Letts, with the Rev. Lavina Shoffner officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.

Mildred Katherine Thompson was born March 26, 1905, in Letts.

Survivors include a brother, J. Harold Thompson of Clear Lake; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and one brother.

** Earl N. Reis

CHARLES CITY - Earl N. Reis, 90, died Tuesday (Feb. 9, 1999) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stanley J. Hayek officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home, where the St. Catherine's Circle will recite the rosary at 3 p.m., and a Vigil Scriptural Wake service at 7 p.m. will be held. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Saturday.

Earl Nicholas Reis was born March 22, 1908, in Ulster Township, Floyd County.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Charles City; a son, Roger of Loomis, Calif.; a daughter, Janice Webber of Des Moines; a sister, Magdaline Greiner of Reinbeck; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

HAMPTON - Emma L. Mosher, 87, died Tuesday (Feb. 9, 1999) at the Franklin General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Nelson officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials may be directed to the family.

Emma L. Mosher was born Sept. 23, 1911, in Aredale.

Survivors include a son, C.J. Mosher of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Lou Ann Viehmeyer of Hampton; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 16 brothers and sisters.

Lois Ilene Stalker Otto was born Aug. 24, 1923, at Rudd.

Survivors include her husband, Robert of Charles City; two daughters, Jean Sharp of Charles City, and Ann Ransom of Osage; a son, Steven Otto of Charles City; a brother, Bill Stalker of Naples, Fla.; two sisters, Lenore Mess of Princeton, and Lorraine French of Clear Lake; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and a sister.

RAKE - George A. Faber, 73, died Tuesday (Feb. 9, 1999) at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jennifer Edinger officiating. Interment will be in the West Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Winter Funeral Home, Buffalo Center, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

George A. Faber was born Jan. 26, 1926, in Winnebago County.

Survivors include his wife, Mardelle of Rake; two daughters, Darlene Bollig of Fenton, and LeaAnn Hovland of Albert Lea, Minn.; five grandchildren; his mother, Eva Faber of Blue Earth, Minn.; and one sister, Harriet Brones of Rake.

He was preceded in death by his father, a son, a brother, and a brother.

** Roland Peterson

FOREST CITY - Roland Peterson, 83, of Forest City, died Monday (Feb. 8, 1999) at the Belmond Health Care Center, Belmond.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Forest City, with the Rev. Gerald Dyste officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation was held Wednesday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark, Forest City.

Roland Petersen was born on a farm near Goodell, on May 1, 1915, the son of Emil and Della (Hayden) Peterson. He attended rural school near his home. He moved with his family to Brush Creek, Minn., and completed his education there.

He married Clara Peterson on Dec. 25, 1939, at the United Brethren Parsonage in Goodell. The couple lived and farmed in several North Iowa communities over the years. In 1969, Roland began working at Winnebago Industries in Forest City. He continued to work there until retiring in 1980.

Roland liked to fish and garden. He enjoyed his cap collection and like watching nature shows, wrestling and bowling on TV. He was a long time member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Forest City.

He entered the Belmond Care Center in Belmond, in May of 1994.

He is survived by four daughters, Karna Kane, of Clarion, Shirley Stenersen and her husband, Eugene, of Lake Mills, Sondra Peterson, of Mason City, and Laura Peterson, of Forest City; seven sons, Lauren, of Britt, Merlin, of Garner, Delwyn and his wife, Jill, of Marsailles, Ill., Dennis, Melvin, Duane and Leon, all of Forest City;; three brothers, Walton Peterson, of Rochester, Minn., Merle Peterson, of Waverly, and Arthur Peterson, of Fort Dodge; a sister, Della Peterson, of Belmond; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Lynn Peterson, of Garner; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara; a son, Roland; a brother, Harold; a sister, Elaine Eisenhower; and a niece, Marilyn Peterson.

** Richard H. Brown

ROCKWELL — Richard H. Brown, 90, of Rockwell, died Thursday (Feb. 11, 1999) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

Funeral services are tentatively set for 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Rockwell.

Other arrangements are incomplete at Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield.

MASON CITY — Leona M. Heagel, 76, of Mason City, died Wednesday (Feb. 10, 1999) at the Manly Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 210 Willowbrook Dr. S.W., Mason City, with the Rev. Terry Hamilton Poore officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City and will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Lime Creek Nature Center, or to the Henry and Leona Heagel Scholarship fund which will be established.

Leona Mae Heagel was born Feb. 15, 1922, in Mason City, daughter of Leon Hallock and Fern Evelyn (Mitchell) Harding. Leona graduated from Mason City High School in 1939, and then graduated from St. Joseph Nursing School with an RN Degree.

Leona lived most of her life in Mason City. She was a supervisor of the emergency room at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital for many years and then was in charge of nursing at the old Park Hospital in Mason City. She also worked in the office of Dr. Houlahan and Dr. Baker. She taught Licensed Practical Nursing at North Iowa Area Community College until retiring. After retirement, she sold Independent Order of the Foresters Insurance.

Leona married Henry F. Heagel on June 6, 1946, in Mason City. Through their married life, they lived on South Jefferson, 14th Street N.W., and Parkridge Drive, Mason City.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving one time as a deacon. She belonged to many organizations, especially pertaining to nursing. She also enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Ruth) Cox, of Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Mason City, and Mrs. Carl (Bonnie) Nichols, of Garland, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Glenn (Margaret) Harding, of Connecticut, and Marcelle Heagel, of Kensett; one brother-in-law, Alex Heagel and his wife, Evelyn, of Kensett; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Mitchell and Glenn; and one brother-in-law, Ralph Cox.

She moved to Grafton and married John Bork on Sept. 14, 1924. John died on April 13, 1989.

She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

She is survived by two sons, Donald Bork, of Maitland, Fla., and Jack Bork, of Grafton; two granddaughters, Gwen Seivert and her husband, Tom, of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Lisa Duncomb, of Grafton and special friend, Kevin R. Hanson; one grandson, John Bork IV and his wife, Valerie, of Grafton; seven great-grandchildren, Christopher and Anthony Duncomb, Timothy and Erin Seivert, and Patrice, John V. and Brianna Bork; two sisters, Arminda Buechele, of Grafton, and Berneice Maker and her husband, Bob, of Corvallis, Mont.; and one brother, the Rev. Harry Rappath and his wife, Evelyn, of Prescott, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and a brother.

** Eugene Stewart

TREYNOR — Eugene Stewart, 72, of Treynor, died Wednesday (Feb. 10, 1999) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Zion Congregational Church, Treynor, with Pastor Ken Dohmen officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Congregational Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home, Treynor.

Memorials may be given to the Zion Congregational Church or Treynor Ambulance Fund in his memory.

Eugene Stewart was born on a farm 2 ½ miles southwest of Floyd, on Sept. 17, 1926. He was the sixth of seven children born to Lloyd and Hazel Stewart. He was baptized and confirmed at the Floyd Methodist Church and attended Floyd Community schools until being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945. While in the service he obtained the rank of Sergeant. His travels took him to the South Pacific during World War II and to Manila and the Philippine Islands. After discharge, he returned home and did carpentry work with his father until entering into marriage.

On Aug. 19, 1949, he married Audrey Anderson at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, in Nashua. Later that fall he entered Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. In college he played baseball three years and was an active member of the "I" Club. He graduated in 1953 and several years later also received a master's degree from the University of Iowa. Also in 1953, Eugene and Audrey moved to Treynor, Iowa.

Eugene enjoyed playing baseball with the Treynor Alumni Association. He was teacher and coach at Treynor High School for nine years and a scoutmaster for two years. Mr. Stewart enjoyed his affiliation with Treynor High School and has maintained many friendships. In 1962 he began his tenure at Iowa School for the Deaf where he wore many hats. He was first a house parent and classroom teacher. Eventually he held such positions as coach, athletic director, high school guidance counselor and vice principal.

He was an active member of the Governor's Committee on Employment of the Handicapped and a long-time member of the Governor's Youth Opportunity Program, Inc., for which he was chairperson for several years. He very much enjoyed 26 years with ISD, retiring in 1988. In 1989 he was inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Director Association Hall of Fame. After his retirement, the Stewart family purchased a small cabin in Clear Lake, Iowa, where for the past 11 years, they have enjoyed many hours of fun and relaxation with family and friends. Eugene was most recently employed with Bluffs Run, where he worked for 10 years.

Eugene and Audrey raised eight children, all of whom graduated from Treynor High School.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey, of Treynor; four daughters, Susan Mass, Virginia Winchell, Val Reed, and Sally Myers, all of Treynor; three sons, Jim, of Fredricksburg, Greg, of Omaha, Neb., and Brett, of Treynor; two brothers, Lee and Larry, and a sister, Harriett Elfers, all of Charles City; and a sister, Joyce Wilcox, of Nora Springs; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and 159 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Hazel, of Floyd; a brother, George, of Nora Springs; a brother, Ray, of Floyd; and a son, Dave Stewart in 1972.

NORTHWOOD — Lena Emma Lien, 90, of Northwood, died Thursday (Feb. 11, 1999) at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood.

** Agnes Marie Anderson

RICEVILLE — Agnes Marie Anderson, 79, died Wednesday (Feb. 10, 1999) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Riceville, with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville. A rosary will begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by a scripture service at 7:30.

Agnes was born Jan. 11, 1920, in New Haven.

She is survived by her husband, Edmund, of Riceville; three sons, Robert Anderson of Englewood, Colo., Joe Anderson of Bloomington, Ind., and Tom Anderson of Sterling, Ill.; three daughters, Mary Hittner of White Bear Lake, Minn., Doris Gacke of Marquette, Neb., and Jane Dratz of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; 15 grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Wagner of Riceville, Glenn Wagner of Osage, and Leonard Wagner of Waterloo; and one sister Gladys Jacobus of Riceville.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

** Lloyd H. Staff

MASON CITY — Lloyd H. Staff, 85, of 1658 Meadowbrook Dr., Mason City, died Tuesday morning (Feb. 9, 1999) at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 14th St. S.E., with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on today at Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E. Mason City.

Lloyd was born on Nov. 10, 1913, on the family farm in East Cedar Township in Mitchell County. He was one of five children born to John W. and Clara (Winnor) Staff.

He was baptized and confirmed at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, where he remained an active member until his transfer to St. James Lutheran Church in 1977, when he retired and moved to Mason City.

Lloyd graduated from Osage High School and then began his farming career. His farming life included his dairy cows, practicing soil conservation, and selling silos, grain bins and related farm equipment. He sold insurance and enjoyed the stock market.

His other business interests included being a partner with Herb Klemesrud in the Cheese Factory at Meroa, which they started in 1954 and expanded it from 16 customers to over 100 in two years. He was instrumental in building Faith Nursing Home in Osage and was Vice-President of the board of directors. He was a part owner in the Big A auto parts store in Charles City. In 1958 he suffered from a farm accident, which resulted in the loss of his leg three years later.

Lloyd was united in marriage to Lillian Weers on June 30, 1940, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this marriage were born three children. Lloyd, "Grump", (as his friends and relatives liked to call him), along with his brother, Olaf, built three homes in Osage using the family farm's home-sawed lumber. He always had time to visit with friends and neighbors and work on his hobbies, which included collecting and renovating old antique cars.

ROCKWELL — Richard Brown, 90, of Rockwell, died Thursday (Feb. 11, 1999) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

Richard Brown was born on Dec. 12, 1908, in Sheffield, the son of David and Anna (Holtz) Brown. He attended school in the Sheffield area and was baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Sheffield. He spent his childhood in the Sheffield area and started farming with his brother, Alvin in that area in 1928 until 1940, at which time they purchased a farm west of Rockwell.

He was united in marriage to Esteline Rurup on Aug. 10, 1940. They continued to farm until 1971, when they dissolved partnership with his brother. Richard continued farming with his sons until 1976 when he sold the farm to his son, Paul. Richard and Esteline moved to a home in Rockwell in 1973, where Esteline continues to reside. Richard continued to assist Paul with farming until 1989.

Richard will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. Richard enjoyed farming, fishing, and time spent with his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Richard was a long-time member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, in Rockwell.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Esteline, of Rockwell; his sons, Paul and wife, Janet, of Rockwell, and Gary and wife, Jan, of Swaledale; four grandchildren, Darrell and his wife, Connie, Lynette, Jason and Brian; three great-grandchildren, Derek, Craig and Jordan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Richard; three brothers, Elmer, Alvin and Delbert; and one sister, Alphia (Brown) Jones.

Lena Emma Lien was born on July 19, 1908, the daughter of Christ and Lena (Hagen) Mammen in Emden, Ill. She attended and received her education in the Kensett School system.

She was united in marriage to Arnold Lien on Oct. 15, 1930, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1983.

After their marriage, they farmed near Lake Mills and Kensett until moving to Northwood in 1971. After moving to Northwood, they owned and operated the Tasty Freeze Store in Northwood for several years.

Lena had been a resident of the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood since March 1, 1995.

She enjoyed playing cards, getting together with family and friends, and had a good sense of humor, but her great love and enjoyment was her church.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood, Rachel Circle at First Lutheran Church and former member of the Miriam Circle at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood.

Left to cherish her memory are several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Larry, who died in infancy; five brothers, Edwin, Carl, Marion, Paul and Walter Mammen; and five sisters, Marie Wiemer, Hanna Bordaux; Doris Tolly, Alta Nussell and Clara Manus.

Margaret M. Hansen was born Nov. 1, 1909, in Albany, Ill., the daughter of Sheldon M. and Helen M. (Hinrichsen) Knowlton. As a child, Margaret moved with her family to Clinton and Carroll, and then south of Mason City in 1919. Margaret graduated from Mason City High School in 1927.

She married Alfred T. Hansen on Sept. 15, 1928, in Mason City. Margaret farmed with her husband south of Mason City for several years. She kept busy crocheting and knitting, and loved playing cards and visiting with friends. Margaret was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the BFW (Bath Farm Women) Club.

Survivors include one son, James R. Hansen and his wife, Darlene, of Mason City; two daughters, Shirley A. Weinberger and her husband, John, of Hemet, Calif., and Marilyn M. Everett and her husband, Vance, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ella Lembke of Rockwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1974, a daughter, Phyllis J. Peterson and her husband, John D. Peterson, a sister, Grace Dougan, and two brothers, Arthur and Otis Knowlton.

Henry "Bud" Bergman, the son of Henry Joseph and Mary (Hinrichs) Bergman, was born May 6, 1925, at Hurley. He attended country schools in the area and graduated from Rockwell High School. He farmed with his father before enlisting in the United States Army. Following his discharge he returned home to the farm.

He married Bonnie Snell on Nov. 7, 1948, and that marriage was later dissolved. In 1966, he moved to Fort Collins, Colo., where he was employed by a plumbing and heating company. He was united in marriage to Margaret Guy on Sept. 5, 1969, at Loveland, Colo. The couple returned to Humboldt in 1975, and he started Bergman Plumbing with his son, Don. Mr. Bergman remained active in the business until his death at the age of 73. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church in Humboldt.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Humboldt; sons, Jerry of Plymouth and Don of Fort Dodge; daughters, Beverly Simon of Cedar Rapids and Heidi Gidel of Iowa City; stepsons, Dean Anderson of McPhearson, Kans., and David Anderson of Minneapolis; stepdaughters, Cindy Burns of Kansas City, Mo., Misty Anderson of Humboldt and Lisa Caryl of Humboldt; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Margaret Stoddart of Paperos, Wash., Lucille Eikenbary of Mason City and Dorothy Sawyer of Rockwell.

Elenora Catherine Devine, the daughter of Michael and Susanne (Altman) Reding, was born May 25, 1908, at St. Joseph, Iowa. She attended school at St. Joseph and Livermore. On Feb. 12, 1929, she was married to Bernard J. Devine at St. Joseph Catholic Church, south of Algona. They farmed in the St. Joseph, Corwith and Woden areas, and also owned and operated the Devine Drive Inn at Crystal Lake for 11 years. Elenora also sold Avon products for years. In June of 1996, she moved to Prairie View Apartments in Garner, and on Nov. 3, 1998, to Westview Care Center in Britt. She enjoyed her family, friends, being a homemaker, baking, cooking and tatting, and was an avid sports fan.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Woden, Ladies Guild and the Woden Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her children, Jerry Devine and his wife, Mary, of Estherville, Joan Gray of Denison, Don Devine and his wife, Jean, of Lake City, Emily Devine, RSM, of Mason City, and Judy Devine of Eagan, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank Reding of LuVerne; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Devine, in 1967; two sons, Dick Devine in 1972 and Dale Devine in 1969; a son-in-law, Don Gray in 1996; her father, Michael Reding in 1947; her mother, Susanne Reding in 1945; two sisters, Anna Weydert and Clara Weydert; and a brother, Johnny Reding.

MASON CITY — Richard L. Knudson, 72, of 309 S. Louisiana Ave., died Saturday morning (Feb. 13, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. Inurnment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Mason City Memorial Association.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to the Richard Knudson Memorial Fund in care of his family, 309 S. Louisiana, Mason City.

Richard was born Oct. 2, 1926, the son of Alfred and Orla (Edwards) Knudson in Manly, Iowa.

Richard served his country in the United States Army.

Richard was united in marriage to Lois Arndt and together they had three daughters.

Over the years, Richard became an avid fisherman who enjoyed casting his line for walleye. Richard and Lois enjoyed going camping, but Richard's definition of camping was fishing. His favorite past time was teasing his granddaughter Amber.

Richard was employed by the Rock Island Rail Road in the Water Service division (maintenance) until his retirement in 1980.

Those thankful for having shared in Richard's life include his wife, Lois; three daughters, Denece Knudson, Laurie and her husband, Jim Coe, and Connie Knudson, all of Mason City; one granddaughter, Amber Coe of Mason City; one sister-in-law, Rena Knudson of Manly; two nieces, Pauline and her husband, Russ Ragsdale, of Northwood, and Dee Ann and her husband, Jim Dunbar, of Manly; and two nephews, Marty and his wife, Kay Knudson of Mason City, and Randy and his wife, Pena Knudson, of Iowa City.

** Ruth Emelia Lonnevik

BELMOND — Funeral services for Ruth Emelia (Nelson) Lonnevik, 69, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home, where the casket will be open, but in accordance with Ruth's request, the casket will be closed at the church on Tuesday.

Memorials are recommended to be given in honor of Ruth to St. Olaf Church and missions, Wright County Hospice, Waldorf College, Belmond Hospital Auxiliary, or the Belmond School Scholarship Fund.

Ruth Emelia (Nelson) Lonnevik, the daughter of Nickolie and H. Emelia (Oscarson) Rokke-Nelson, was born on May 23, 1929, in rural Belmond, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

She attended rural school and graduated from Belmond High School in 1946. Ruth went on to graduate in 1948 from Waldorf College and taught first grade in Story City, Iowa. She married Russell Lonnevik on Aug. 13, 1949, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Ruth worked in the Treasurer's Office at St. Olaf College until Russell's graduation in 1951. The couple lived in Curlew, Iowa, while Russell taught, and they later came to the Belmond area where they were engaged in farming for more than 30 years.

Ruth was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, assistant organist, choir director, and worked in various offices of the church. She served on the Belmond School Board, was a member of the Belmond Community Hospital Auxiliary, the Area Arts Council, the "Sons of Norway" organization, and she held many other volunteer duties. Ruth loved quilting and doing crossword puzzles.

Ruth died on Sunday (Feb. 14, 1999) at the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond, after fighting a long battle with cancer.

Survivors include four children, Daniel Lonnevik and his wife, Lorann of Meservey, Wayne Lonnevik of Belmond, Marvin Lonnevik and his wife, Delorys of rural Britt, and Ruth Ann Elphic and her husband, Randy, of Trabuco Canyon, Calif.; six grandchildren, Eric and Elisa Lonnevik of Meservey, Amber and Ashley Lonnevik of rural Britt, and Colton and Emelia Elphic of Trabuco Canyon, Calif.; four brothers, Norris Nelson and his wife, Florain, of Scarville, Clifford Nelson and his wife, Elnor, of St. Cloud, Minn., Everett Nelson and his wife, Clara, of Dent, Minn., and Reuben Nelson and his wife, Ellie, of Belmond; two sisters, Mildred Meyer of Toledo, Ohio, and Esther Larson and her husband, Roy, of Pelican Rapids, Minn.; a brother-in-law, Roger Lonnevik and his wife, Mildred, of Belmond; a sister-in-law, Marcella Larson and her husband, Eddie, of LaCrosse, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Pearl; her parents; and her husband, Russell, in 1984.

BELMOND — Funeral services for Harry William Palm Jr., 86, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Jim Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in the North Prairie Cemetery, Scarville.

Harry William Palm Jr. was born on June 4, 1912, the son of Harry William Sr. and Nina (Holt) Palm, at Ogema, Wis.

He began his first teaching position at the Scarville High School in Scarville, Iowa, in the mid-1930s, where he later became the principal.

On Aug. 13, 1939, Harry and Carol Solomonson were united in marriage at North Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Scarville. Shortly after, the couple moved to Forest City, Iowa.

From there they moved to Preston, Iowa, and later, to Dows, Iowa, where Harry taught science and math from 1941 until 1954. It was then that they moved their family to Lake City, Iowa, where Harry taught until retirement in 1974.

In 1976, Harry and Carol moved to Belmond, Iowa. Harry enjoyed woodworking and he was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Harry died on Saturday (Feb. 13, 1999) at the Belmond Health Care Center, Belmond.

Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Belmond; two sons, Michael Palm and his wife, Jan, of Spencer, and Warren Palm and his wife, Bunny Seymour, of Decorah; three grandchildren, Kari Roskens, Lisa Palm and Julie Palm; three great-grandchildren, Kalei, Brandt and Alec Roskens; and four brothers, Robert Palm and his wife, Clara, of Michigan City, Ind., Edgar Palm and his wife, Mary, of Minneapolis, Arthur Palm and his wife, Marge, of Redding, Calif., and James Swanson of Milwaukee, Wis.

Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis D. Niezwaag of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service.

MASON CITY — Hilda M. Jensen, 98, of 501 S. Kentucky Ave., died Saturday (Feb. 13, 1999) at the Heritage Care Center.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania, is in charge of arrangements.

SHEFFIELD — Alma L. Humburg, 94, died Saturday (Feb. 13, 1999) at the Sheffield Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Grarup Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Zion-St. John Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

** Debra Ann Hackenmiller

STACYVILLE — Debra Ann Hackenmiller, 42, died on Friday (Feb. 12, 1999) at the Stacyville Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. Ansgar Catholic Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be at the Visitation Cemetery, Stacyville.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, with a rosary at 3 p.m., and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Debra was born on March 25, 1956, in Osage, the daughter of Ernest and Shirley (Mayer) Hackenmiller. She graduated in 1974 from St. Ansgar High School. She worked at the Cedar Valley Workshop in Austin, Minn., until medical problems forced her into a nursing home in Austin in 1980. She moved to the Stacyville Nursing Home in 1986. Debra was a member of the Foresters. She enjoyed country music, particularly the music of Johnny Cash.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Debra is survived by her parents, Ernest and Shirley Hackenmiller, of St. Ansgar; two brothers, Randy and his wife, Nancy, of Osage, and John and his wife, Sue, of Burlington; five sisters, Wanda Hackenmiller of Cedar Falls, Brenda Hackenmiller of Cedar Falls, Michele Hackenmiller of Waterloo, Audrey Milks and her husband, Terry, of Robins, and Denise Adams and her husband, Ed, of Monona; and many nieces and nephews.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar is in charge of arrangements.

** Harold 'Jim' Higdon

BRITT — Harold "Jim" Higdon, 97, died Saturday (Feb. 13, 1999) at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Ewing Funeral Chapel, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

** Leta Joan Bohl

LAKE MILLS — Leta Joan Bohl, 68, died Sunday (Feb. 14, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

** Everett H. Peters

CLEAR LAKE — Everett H. Peters, 81, of 18374 Grouse Ave., died Saturday (Feb. 13, 1999) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dean Hess and the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with military honors provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
