Harold R. Keeney, 60, of Mason City, died Saturday (Jan. 13,

1996) at the Good Shepherd Healthcare Center.



Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer

Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Randy Nielsen

of Good Shepherd officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph

Cemetery.



Visitation will be from noon until time of service today at

the funeral chapel.



Harold R. Keeney was born Feb. 26, 1935, in Mason City, son

of Glenn and Pearl (Coonrod) Keeney.



Survivors include one daughter, Roxanne Keeney of Lake Mills;

one granddaughter, Amanda Keeney of Lake Mills; five sisters,

Beverly Krause and her husband, James, of Nora Springs; Joyce

Fisher and her husband, Donald, of Belvidere, Ill.; Phyllis Endriss

of Mason City; Karen Bendickson and her husband, Jack, of Garden

City; and Sharon Keeney of Clear Lake; four brothers, Glenn Keeney

Jr. and his wife, Lois, of Tucson, Ariz.; Jerry Keeney of Grafton;

Ron Keeney and his wife, Joyce, and Gerald Keeney and his wife,

Sue, all of Belvidere, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

Verle Frederick Miller, 86, of 1400 Seventh Ave N.,  died Sunday

(Jan. 14, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason

City.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the

Church of Christ, Fertile, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.



Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke

Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake. Visitation will also be held one

hour prior to services at the church.



The family suggests any memorials be directed to the Verle Frederick

Miller Memorial Fund.



Verle was born Nov. 25, 1909, in Goodell, the son of Benjamin

and Ellen (Roath) Miller. He moved to Wisconsin with his parents

as a child.



He was united in marriage to Corrine Elizabeth Zobel on March

15, 1933, in Mason City.



The couple lived all of their married life in the Fertile area.



From 1958-75 he worked at Allied Mills in Mason City while also

farming in the Fertile area. He moved to Clear Lake in November

of 1994 from Fertile.



Verle loved the out of doors, especially fishing and camping.



He was a member of the Church of Christ in Fertile.



Verle was very close to his family and they will miss him greatly.



He is survived by his wife, Corrine Miller of Clear Lake; three

sons, Earl Miller and his wife, Donna, of Clear Lake; Marlin

Miller and his wife, Dianne, of Clear Lake, and Jack Miller and

his wife, Eva, of Manly; a daughter, Jean C. Blake and her husband,

Dan, of Clear Lake; 15 grandchildren, Arlyn Miller, Dan Miller,

Sheila Ball, LuAnn Paulson, Jeffrey Miller, Rhonda Krambeer,

Jack Junior Miller, Richard Miller, Gary Miller, Eric Miller,

Janelle Herzberg, Linda Ball, Jerry Gudmonson, Mark Gudmonson

and Shawn Charlson; two stepgrandchildren, Laurie Deuschle and

Curt Blake; three brothers, Glen Miller and his wife, Flo, of

Marshall, Texas; Amos Miller and his wife, Irene, of Westfield,

Ind., and Orland Miller and his wife, Marlys, of San Leandro,

Calif.; four sisters, Viola Roberts and her husband, Forrest,

of Fertile; Iva Schuler of Forest City; Verna Butts of San Leandro,

Calif., and Leona Meeks of Freeport, Ill.; 27 great-grandchildren;

and six stepgreat-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson, Kenneth

Herzberg; a brother, Alvin Miller and his wife, Bernice; a son-in-law,

Don Gudmonson; two brothers-in-law, Darrel Meeks and Lewis Butts;

and a sister-in-law, Camellia Miller.

PETTIGREW, Ark. 



Willis Elbert Kenyon, 84, of HC 64, Box 11, Pettigrew, Ark.,

died Wednesday (Jan. 10, 1996) at the Fayetteville Nursing Center.



Private graveside services and interment were held in the Boston

Cemetery.



Arrangements were under the direction of the Brashears Funeral

Home, Huntsville, Ark.



He was born Aug. 17, 1911, at Chapin, Iowa, the son of Dell

Elbert and Clara Loraine Crawford Kenyon.



He was a graduate of Iowa State University at Ames, Iowa, with

a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree.



He retired from N.A.S.A. in 1972 after 30 years of service.



He was a former member of the Lions Club of Valley City, Ohio,

and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks at Berea, Ohio.



He had been a life member of the National Rile Association since

1935.



Survivors include one son, James Willis Kenyon of Pettigrew,

Ark.; one grandson, Eric W. Cress of Everett, Wash.; two granddaughters,

Mrs. Kimberly Ann Burke of Gold Bar, Wash., and Miss Jennifer

Lynn Cress of Everett, Wash.; and six great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Klare Elizabeth McCormick

Kenyon, on Oct. 8, 1994.

Pearl Teepe, 90, of Elma, died Thursday (Jan. 11, 1996) at

the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City, of natural

causes.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the United

Methodist Church in Elma with the Rev. Ray Howland officiating.

Burial will be in Howard Cemetery in Elma.



Visitation was held from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Conway Funeral

Home, Elma.



Pearl Schoonmaker was born on Jan. 22, 1905, in Frankville,

the daughter of Daniel and Mabel (Nelson) Schoonmaker.



She attended school in Decorah.



On Sept. 21, 1921, she was united in marriage to Edward Teepe

at the Methodist Parsonage in Decorah.



During their married life, the couple resided in Fayette and

Howard counties. They moved to Elma in 1945 and then lived in

Orchard in 1956 moving back to Elma in 1960.



Pearl worked as a homemaker.



She was a member of the Elma United Methodist Church.



She is survived by six daughters, Mabel Carmody of Gravette,

Ark.; Joyce Meyerhoff of Charles City; Elinor Eggers of Charles

City; Sharon Lane of Charles City; Janice Kobliska of Elma, and

Phyllis Fausnaugh of Mason City; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-

grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, 

Stella Burnham of Janesville, Wis.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; two

sons, Raymond and David Teepe; two brothers, Lewis Christopher

and Vernon Schoonmaker; and three sisters, Vera Schoonmaker,

Ruby Chudzinski and Mary Teepe.

Leonard Charles Balsley, 82, of St. Ansgar, formerly of the

Orchard, Little Cedar and Osage area, died Monday (Jan. 15, 1996)

Funeral Home, Osage, with the Rev. Clark Christian officiating.

Leonard Charles Balsley was born Dec. 11, 1913, near Orchard.



Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Shoars of Kensett and

Linda Dishman of Charles City; six grandchildren; and four great-

grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one

sister.

Bessie Buelah Ruby, 89, of Mason City, formerly of Ventura,

died Sunday (Jan. 14, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient

Unit, Mason City.



Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elk Creek

Lutheran Church, rural Kensett, with the Rev. Selmer ``Sam''

Hernes officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Creek Lutheran

Church Cemetery, rural Kensett.



Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Bride Colonial Chapel,

110 E. Spring St., Manly, and one hour prior to service time

on Wednesday at the church.



The family of Bessie Buelah Ruby has requested that memorial

contributions be made to the Elk Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery

fund  or to Hospice Care of Mason City, in her memory.



Bessie Buelah Ruby was born on July 21, 1906, in Mansfield,

Mo., the daughter of Frank Albert and Margaret (Cline) Peebles.



She attended and received her education in Missouri before moving

to Emmetsburg when she was 8 years old, finishing her education

in the Emmetsburg school system.



She was united in marriage to Lester John Ruby on Feb. 10, 1925,

in Spencer.  He preceded her in death in 1988.



After their marriage, they farmed in the Spencer area and later

moved to Hanlontown where they continued to farm until their

retirement, moving to Ventura, close to the lake, which was Bessie's

favorite home. The last seven years, she made her home at the

Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City.



She was a member of the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett,

where she taught Sunday School for many years, and was also a

member of the church circle.



She was a very loving mother and enjoyed her family most of

all and her friends. She also enjoyed fishing and playing cards.



Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Russell Ruby and

his wife, Ocella, of Mason City, and Jim Ruby and his wife, Betty,

of Forest Hill, La.; three daughters, Dorothy Berschman and her

husband, Joe, of Buffalo Center; Betty Johnson of Northwood,

and Delores Rinden and her husband, Marvin, of Joice; 12 grandchildren;

16 great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.



Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons,

Donald and Eldon Ruby; one son-in-law, Virgil Johnson; one grandson,

Duane Ruby; two great-grandsons, Christopher Butter and Erin

Johnson; three brothers, Lawrence, Ray and Jim; and four sisters,

Esther, Verna, Edith and Lucy.

GRANVILLE, Ill. 



Dave Hayungs, 46, of Granville, formerly of Rudd, Iowa, died

at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 10, 1996) at University Hospitals

in Iowa City, Iowa, while receiving a liver transplant.



Full military service with honor guard by the Granville American

Legion Post #80  was held at 11 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 13, 1996)

at the Helmer-Shields Funeral Home, with the Rev. Brian Eble

officiating. Burial was in the Granville Cemetery.



Visitation was held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at the

funeral home.



Dave Hayungs was born May 29, 1949, at Greene, Iowa, to John

and Betty (Raymond) Hayungs.



During his school years, he was active in wrestling and football.



He was presented the Order of Arrow award from scouts and earned

the God and Country award.



He graduated from the Rockford, Iowa, High School in May of

1969 and enlisted and entered into the military service in the

United States Army serving from 1969 to 1972, with 26 months

in Vietnam.



He was united in marriage to Gloria Klodt Mast on Dec. 9, 1972,

in Waterloo, Iowa.



He was co-owner of Pro Remodeling of Peru, Ill.



Survivors include his parents, John and Betty Hayungs of Rudd,

Iowa; his wife, Gloria, of Granville; two sons, David and his

wife, Gina, of Granville; and Edward Mast and his wife, Tammy,

of Independence, Iowa; four grandchildren; two brothers, Darrell

and John, both of Rudd, Iowa; two sisters, Sharon Hayungs and

her friend, Louis Ziesman of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Karen Courter

of Rudd, Iowa; and a niece, Lisa Courter of Rudd, Iowa.



He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Richard; and

a brother-in-law, John Courter.

Ruth Shivvers was born Aug. 7, 1921, in Pleasantville.



Survivors include her husband, Granville, of Clarion; one daughter,

Linda Calcari of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; one son, Gary Shivvers

of Ankeny; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one

sister.

home.

Carl O. Beyer was born on April 2, 1912, west of Chapin, the

son of August and Anna (Depping) Beyer.



As a youngster, he lived in the Hansell and Latimer area.



He received his education in the Prairie View Country school

near Latimer.



On Feb. 21, 1935, he was united in marriage to Ruth Oelkers

in the rural home of the bride's parents.



In December of 1946, after farming for several years, Carl and

his family moved to Sheffield.



He was then employed by Charlie Hage and Calvin Schneck in the

produce business.



During this time, he also served as a school bus driver for

the Sheffield Community School District.



In 1951, he began driving semi trailer trucks for the Sheffield

Brick and Tile Company until retiring in 1974.



Later that year, he went to work part time for the Grarup Funeral

Home, once again retiring after 19 years.



Carl enjoyed his garden from which he diligently canned the

fruits of his labor, especially his dill pickles for his grandchildren.



He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing and spending time in his

home.



He was a faithful member of the Zion-St. John Lutheran Church

of Sheffield, having served as an usher and deacon on the church

council many terms.



He also was a member of the men's prayer group and the Teamster

l Union #828 of Mason City.



He is survived by his son, Larry and his wife, Darlene, of Belmond;

one daughter, Marlys Hartman and her husband, Gerry, of Ames;

six grandchildren, Daniel Hartman and Andrea Hartman, both of

Ames; Jodi Loux and her husband, Dick, of Overland Park, Kan.;

Jill Niehaus and her husband, Ron, of Clarksville; Janna Beyer

of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Jennifer Beyer of Belmond; two great-

granddaughters, Bethany and Emily Loux; and a special nephew, 

Alan Neve of Oskaloosa.



He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; one son, Dennis;

his parents; and one sister.

Harley R. Urbatsch, 77, of Forest City, died Tuesday (Jan. 16,

1996) at his home.



Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United

Methodist Church in Forest City, with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating.

Burial will be in the spring at the Bohemian Cemetery in Plymouth.



There will be no visitation. Petersen Lund Funeral Home is in

charge of arrangements.



Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or the United

Methodist Church.



Harley Richard Urbatsch was born near Plymouth, on May 5, 1918,

the son of Fred and Beulah (Siple) Urbatsch.



He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church

in Plymouth and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1935.



He was active in basketball and baseball in school and earned

his Eagle Scout award from the Plymouth troop.



He attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1940 with

a degree in forestry and retail lumbering.



He was united in marriage to Pearl Koci of Grafton on Sept.

30, 1939, in Albany, Mo.



He worked as the manager for the Plymouth branch of the Manly

State Bank from 1940-1942.



Harley entered the United States Navy in July of 1943 as an

ensign. He had six months indoctrination at Harvard University

in Cambridge, Mass.



He served in the South Pacific on the Islands of Emirau, New

Guinea and in Australia and was discharged in 1945.



In February of 1946, Harley opened a retail hardware store in

Goodell, where the couple lived for seven years.



In Garner, he had the Coast to Coast  store, sold Blue Cross-Blue

Shield Insurance and Prudential Life Insurance.



In 1955, he purchased the Forest City Hardware and was there

until his retirement.



He was a charter member of the VFW Post in Leland, the American

Legion Post in Forest City, the Forest City United Methodist

Church, Pheasants Forever and the NRA.



Harley and Pearl enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Long

Lake in northern Minnesota and had celebrated their 50th wedding

anniversary with their family.



He loved discussing politics and economics and spending time

with his coffee friends.



He died at home in Forest City on Jan. 16, 1996, at the age

of 77 years.



Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Pearl, of Forest City;

a son and his wife, Harley Urbatsch II and Pam, of Forest City;

a daughter and her husband, Sue Langesen and Dean of Leland;

six grandchildren, Kristin, Brian and Jamie Urbatsch and Katie,

Laura, and Wendy Langesen; a brother, Forrest Urbatsch and his

wife, Dorothy, of Manly; a sister-in-law, Fern Urbatsch of Albert

Lea, Minn.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Lowell and Shirley

Koci of Manly; and several nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dr. Robert

Urbatsch.

Marlyn Luecht, 60, of 433 N. Sixth St., Sheffield, died Monday

(Jan. 15, 1996) at his place of business.

John Lutheran Church, Sheffield, with the Rev. Kent Mechler 

officiating.  Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, with military 

rites by the Harlow Ray Masse Post #277.



Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Grarup Funeral

Home, Sheffield.



Marlyn Luecht was born on Aug. 15, 1935, in  Mason City, the

son of Diedrich and Emma (Christiansen) Luecht.



He attended the Mason City school system graduating with the

class of 1953.



He went on to receive further education from Mason City Junior

College and graduated from the Pharmacy Department of the University

of Iowa in 1961.



He entered the United States Army serving from 1955 until 1957.



On Dec. 20, 1958, he was united in marriage to Carol Arneson.

They made their home in Iowa City while he attended college and

worked for Lewis Drug.



In 1961, they moved to Keokuk where he worked for the Scott

and O'Reilly Drug.



In 1962, they moved to Mason City and began working for the

Medical Arts Pharmacy until 1965 when he started working in the

Plaza Pharmacy as a co-owner until 1975 when he purchased the

Sheffield Drug Store in Sheffield.



Marlyn enjoyed golfing, fishing, bowling, attending Iowa football

games, and supporting his grandchildren in their special activities.



He is survived by his wife, Carol Luecht of Sheffield; two sons,

Michael Luecht and his wife, Chantal, of Fort Polk, La., and

Eric Luecht and his wife, Marni, of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter,

Lori Schmale and her husband, Monty, of Meservey; two grandchildren,

Derek and Cara Schmale of Meservey; and his mother, Emma Luecht

of Sheffield.



He was preceded in death by his father.

1996) at the Evergreen Terrace Nursing Home in Madison, S.D.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion

Lutheran Church, Rake.



Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Winter Funeral

Home, Buffalo Center, where other arrangements are incomplete.

Benny D. Siems, 78, of Nashua, died Tuesday (Jan.16, 1996)

at  Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First

Congregational Church. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery.



Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Chenoweth &

Son Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. Masonic service. There will also

be visitation one hour before services at the church on Friday.

Benny D. Siems was born Dec. 19, 1917, in Mason City.



Survivors include his children, Kay Bahlmann of Guttenberg;

Jeff Siems of Clare; Jay Siems of Iowa City and Lisa Stoner of

Ruthven; four brothers, Dick Siems and Ed Siems, both of Sheffield;

Dale Siems of Charles City, and Delbert Block of Cedar Rapids;

five sisters, Sue Waggoner of Charles City; Tilene Humphreys

of Hampton; Luella Lahner and Eileen Jewel, both of Sheffield,

and Louise Adreon of Des Moines; and nine grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at Ewing Funeral

Mary Elizabeth Hildebrand was born Jan. 18, 1901, in Washington,

Iowa.



Survivors include one son, Gordon Hildebrand of Belmond; one

sister, Helen Guenther of Britt; two grandchildren; and four

great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by his parents, husband, one brother

and one sister.

Snitzer officiating.  Burial will be in Brush Point Cemetery,

Ruth Boman was born Nov. 27, 1909, in Huxley.



Survivors include her husband, Stanley Boman of Forest City;

four daughters, Norma Sprau of Mason City; Emelia Pederson of

Nora Springs; IvaDell Wright of Jewell, and Marcelline Osmundson

of Radcliffe; one stepson, Stephen Boman of Forest City; one

stepdaughter, Sandra Waldemar of Deloit; 12 grandchildren; 32

great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, five

brothers and two sisters.

(Jan. 18, 1996) at Heritage Care Center.

Cemetery, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Wayne Ryan of Rolling Acres

Free Methodist Church officiating.



There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111

The family suggests memorials to the Valeria Heinold Memorial

Fund at the Rolling Acres Free Methodist Church.



Valeria I. Heinold was born Sept. 19, 1918, in rural Mason City.



Survivors include one foster sister, Betty Jo Hubbard of Mason

City; one foster brother, Letcher Strong of Mason City; and one

aunt, Etta Heinold of Mason City.



She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, one

brother and one sister.

Mildred L. Gage, 82, formerly of Mason City, Iowa, died Tuesday

(Jan. 16, 1996) at St. Luke's South Shore Hospital, Cudahy, Wis.



Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First

Baptist Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Ron Stein officiating.

Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Mildred was born Aug. 25, 1913, in Hannibal, Mo., the daughter

of Elmer and May (Conley) MaGee.  Mildred graduated from Mason

City High School.  She married Edgar S. Gage on Oct. 17, 1936,

and they established their home in Mason City at that time. 

Mildred was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and served

as a deaconess and Sunday school teacher.  She was past president

of Church Women United, Hearthstone Club and the Chautauqua Study

Club.



Survivors include two sons, Jon Gage and his wife, Joy, of Milwaukee,

Wis., and Alan Gage and his wife, Judy, of Seattle, Wash.; one

sister, Dorothy Mitchell of Mexico, Mo.; grandchildren, David

of Milwaukee, Wis.; Daniel of Manitowoc, Wis.; Jennifer of Eugene,

Ore.; Jeremy, Jessica, Melinda and Meridith, all of Seattle,

Wash.; one great-grandchild; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law;

and nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar, in May of 1995;

her parents; and one brother.

Gilbert Koehler

MESERVEY  



Gilbert Koehler, 87, of Meservey, died Wednesday (Jan. 17, 1996)

at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the

Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Gochenouer officiating.

Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery.



Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Grarup Funeral

Home.



Gilbert Koehler was born on Sept. 11, 1908, on the family farm

northwest of Meservey.  He was the son of William and Laura (Vietmeier)

Koehler.  He attended country school and the Meservey Consolidated

School system.  Following school he began farming with his father

and brothers.



He was united in marriage to Ruth Kielsmeier on June 15, 1947,

in Charles City.  They made their home in the Meservey area farming.

In 1973 he retired from farming and in 1978 they built a new

home in Meservey and moved into town.  Gil enjoyed playing cards,

traveling and watching the Minnesota Twins.



He is survived by his daughter, Marlene Koehler of Denver, Colo.;

and his son, Wayne Koehler and his wife, Val, of Meservey; three

grandsons, Shawn, Brandon and Matthew Koehler of Meservey; three

sisters, Viola Bredlow of Garner, Edna Lauen of Belmond, and

Mildred Hammond of Austin, Minn.



He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents; and three

brothers.

Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.



Visitation will be held after 2:30 p.m. today at the 

Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, where a rosary will 

be held at 3 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m.



Maurice Laubenthal was born May 31, 1927, in Whittemore.



Survivors include his wife, Marguerite; three daughters, Marie

Laubenthal of Ankeny, Beverly Ramker of Rudd, and Coleen Laubenthal

of Manchester; three sons, Ambrose Laubenthal, Vern Laubenthal

and Gary Laubenthal, all of Wesley; eight grandchildren; three

sisters, Regina Kaiser of Algona, Imelda Krieger of Mason City

and Irma Gindling of Cedar Falls; and one brother, Merle Laubenthal

of Whittemore.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Rev. George H. Weitzel

The Rev. George H. Weitzel, 60, of 225 S. Tennessee Place, died

Tuesday (Jan. 16, 1996) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center

East.



Funeral services will be held  at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the

Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with

the Rev. David Shogren and the Rev. Harry Knisely officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.



Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson

Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to

services at the church.



Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or Wesley United

Methodist Church in his memory.



The Rev. George H. Weitzel was born June 15, 1935, the son of

George and Alice ``Doris''  Weitzel in Mason City.



George attended Mason City schools and enlisted in the United

States Navy and served for eight years.



George married Marcia Hinrichs on Nov. 7, 1954, in Osage.



George worked for the Globe-Gazette in several positions from

1960-1974.



In 1976 George and Marcia bought Gambles Hardware Store in Nora

Springs and operated it for five years.



From 1980-1982, George attended North Iowa Area Community College

to prepare for the ministry with the United Methodist  Church.



George's first church was in Elma where he was a part-time pastor

for one year. He then went to Emerson,  where he was the pastor

of four churches for the Nishna Valley parishes: Emerson, Henderson,

Wesley Chapel and Hastings.



In 1989 they moved to Burlington to serve the Asbury-Springgrove

United Methodist Church until Aug. 1, 1995.



He loved serving the Lord as a Pastor in all the churches he

served.



He was a member of the United Methodist Conference, where he

held several positions. He was active in the Salvation Army in

Omaha and Burlington. He served on the Board of the Glenwood

State Hospital. He was active in the Nora Springs Fire Department

and had an active part in organizing the Nora Springs Ambulance

and EMT training.



He is survived by his wife, Marcia Weitzel of Mason City; three

sons, Steve Weitzel and his wife, Cheryl, of Mason City; Mark

Weitzel and his wife, Pam, of Davenport, and Paul Weitzel of

San Francisco, Calif.; five grandchildren, Amanda, Amy, Joshua,

Samuel and Benjamin; his parents, George and Doris Weitzel of

LaFeria, Texas; one brother, Lee Weitzel and his wife, Emma,

of Phoenix, Ariz.; and one sister, Roberta Moore and her husband,

Charles, of Storm Lake; five nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law,

Juanita Hinrichs of Mason City; and several aunts and uncles.
