PARKERSBURG—James Aswegan, 69, of Parkersburg, died on
Thursday, October 2, 2008, at the Maple Manor Village in
Aplington.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Monday,
October 6, at the Christian Reformed Church, with burial in
Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg. Visitation will be
from 4-8:00 p.m., on Sunday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral
Home in Parkersburg and will continue for one hour prior to
the services at the church on Monday.

passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2008, at her home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 6, at 10:30
a.m., at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Coulter, with
Pastor David Bernhardt officiating. Burial will be in the
Coulter Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6:00 p.m., on
Sunday, at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.

WEST DES MOINES—Phyllis C. Gonda, 83, passed from this life
on Thursday, October 2, 2008, at the Mercy Hospice in
Johnston.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 7, at the
West Des Moines Christian Church, with interment in the
Resthaven Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the West
Des Moines Christian Church or to Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
The McLaren’s Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Phyllis was born on May
27, 1925 in Des Moines, the daughter of William and
Josephine Giles. She graduated from East High School.
Following her marriage to Dr. William “Bill” Gonda in 1969,
the couple made their home in Michigan, Hubbard, Tennessee
and Cedar Rapids before returning to Des Moines. She was a
medical assistant for Dr. Henry Braunschweig, a medical
assistant and clinic supervisor at the College of Osteopathy
and served as office manager for her husband’s practice.
Phyllis was affiliated
with the West Des Moines Christian Church and the Red Hat
Society. She loved to fish, loved music and enjoyed playing
with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her
daughter, Claudia (Darrell) Mestdagh of Urbandale; two
step-daughters, Ann (Kendall) Lindaman and Carmen Ites, both
of Iowa Falls; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren;
11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Cocks of
Fort Wayne, Indiana and Pat (Al) Chamberlin of Cedar Rapids.
Phyllis was preceded in
death by her parents; husband; six brothers; and three
sisters.

GRAND BAY, Alabama—Harold “Joe” Saylor, 77, of Ocean
Springs, Mississippi, formerly of Eldora, died on Saturday,
October 4, 2008, at the Grand Bay Convalescent Home in Grand
Bay, Alabama.
A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, October 10,
at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora. Burial followed
in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Eldora, with military
honors provided by the Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American
Legion and the Roll-Harless Post 3974 of the VFW. The
Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora was in charge of the
arrangements.

IOWA FALLS—Harriet A. Campbell, 88, of Iowa Falls, passed
away on Monday, October 6, 2008, at the Scenic Manor, Iowa
Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday,
October 10, at the First United Methodist Church, Iowa
Falls, with the Rev. Carol Myer officiating. Burial will
follow in the Berlin Cemetery, Owasa. A time of visitation
will be from 4-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the Linn’s Funeral
Home, Iowa Falls.
Harriet A. Conkin, was
born on May 12, 1920, on the family farm near Owasa, in
Hardin County, the daughter of Jennie (Harlin) and Frank
Conkin. She attended the Owasa Community Schools, graduating
with the class of 1939. On February 14, 1940, she was united
in marriage to Kenneth Edward Campbell at the Methodist
Church, Owasa. To this union two children were born, Judy
and Frank.
The couple farmed north of Iowa Falls for 19 years and moved
into Iowa Falls in 1959. She worked as a meat cutter for
Farmland Foods for many years. After they closed, she worked
for the Iowa Falls Community Schools lunch program for five
years and then became a hostess for the Hardee’s Restaurant
in Iowa Falls. She retired when the restaurant closed.
Harriet loved playing cards and doing activities with her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Harriet is survived by her
son, Frank (Jeanne) Campbell of Plymouth, Massachusetts; a
son-in-law, Dallas Jass of Iowa Falls; six grandchildren,
Kevin (Lizzet) Johnson of Reno, Nevada, Becky (Doug) Hunt of
Iowa Falls, Kent Johnson of Fresno, California, Kim (Rick)
Miles of Radcliffe, Jennifer (T.J.) Whalen of Burlington,
Vermont and Mark Campbell of Overland Park, Kansas; two
step-grandchildren, D.J. (Kerrin) Jass of Alden and Kayleen
(Jeff) Gronewold of Ackley; nine great-grandchildren; four
step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Phyllis McGill of
Iowa Falls.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, Frank and Jennie Conkin; her husband,
Kenneth Campbell; her daughter, Judy Jass; a granddaughter,
Susan Elizabeth Johnson; and two sisters, Marjorie
Lauterbach and Geneva Grulich.

Norma Juanita Bunn

WARSAW, Missouri—Norma Juanita Bunn, 96, of Warsaw, Missouri
and formerly of Iowa Falls, died on Monday, October 6, 2008,
at the Warsaw Health and Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw.
Graveside services were held on Thursday, October 9, at the
Union Cemetery in Iowa Falls. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa
Falls was in charge of the local arrangements.
Norma was born on April
14, 1912 at Norwood, Missouri, a daughter of Earldon and Oka
(King) Riser. On October 9, 1928 in Waterloo, she was united
in marriage to Fred M. Miller Jr. On September 10, 1939 in
Lancaster, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Axen F.
Bunn, who preceded her in death on March 19, 1995. While
living in Iowa Falls, she was a member of the Evangelical
Free Church. She moved to Steamboat Rock in 1979. In 1997,
she moved to Warsaw, Missouri, where she was a member of the
Warsaw Christian Church. She was an egg candler at the
farmer’s exchange and was a seamstress at Boyt.
She enjoyed attending
church, gardening, growing flowers and playing Bingo.
She is survived by one
daughter, Charlaine Miller Daleske and husband, Gordon of
Warsaw; one son, Darrell Miller and wife, Shirley of Dalles,
Oregon; five grandchildren, Jeff Daleske, Steve Daleske,
Renee Schwermer, Traci Bilyeu and Pamela White; 14
great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she
was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Junior Edward
Miller; four sisters, Vinita Kerby, Pauline Shane, Mary
Swaggart and Jeannette Reed; two brothers, Basil Riser and
Buster Riser; and one granddaughter, Joni Robeson.

Jeanette Marie Klemme

HUBBARD— Jeanette Marie Klemme,
86, of Hubbard, died on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at the Hubbard Care
Center, due to complications of a stroke.
Funeral services
were held on Saturday, October 11, at the Zion United Church of Christ
in Hubbard, with the Rev. John Attaway officiating. Burial
was in the Hubbard Cemetery. The Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard
was in charge of the arrangements.
Jeanette Marie Klemme, was
born on September 22, 1922 in Des Moines, to Martin and Bertha
(Stull) Musland. She was raised by her grandmother, Musland
in Garden City, where she attended grade school and
graduated from the Radcliffe High School in 1941. It was there
she met her husband of 30 years, Forrest.
Jeanette and Forrest were
married on June 14, 1941. They had one son, Ronald, born in
1941. Forrest and his father, Freddie built the farmstead in
1939. Jeanette and Forrest moved there in 1946. Forrest and
Jeanette loved the farm life, livestock, grain farming and
their large garden and yard. Jeanette enjoyed canning and
was a good cook, always having many meals ready for Freddie,
Forrest and Ron.
Jeanette and Forrest were
on their first winter vacation in Arizona when Forrest
passed away of a heart attack at the age of 50, in February
of 1972. It was at this time that Jeanette started working
outside the home for the first time. She worked as a
dietitian at the Valley View Nursing Home, Land-O-Lakes Turkey
Plant and later had a cleaning service with her women
friends.
Jeanette was a lifelong
member of the United Church of Christ in Hubbard.
She will be missed by her
son, Ronald and wife, Leann Klemme of Hubbard; grandchildren,
Kimberly and Dan Lewis and their children, Katelyn and
Kendra of Jacksonville, Florida and Kevin and Diane Klemme and their
children, Tyler and Joshua of Bondurant.

Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at the Franklin General Hospital
Nursing Facility in Hampton.

Ekstedt officiating. Burial was in the Hampton Cemetery.

Melvin Oskvig

WILLIAMS—Melvin Oskvig, 89, of Williams, died on Wednesday,
October 8, 2008, at the Scenic Manor Nursing Home in Iowa
Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday,
October 11, at the First Christian Church in Iowa Falls,
with burial in the Williams Cemetery. Full Military Rites
will be provided by the Williams American Legion Post No.
633. The Surls Funeral Home in Williams is in charge of the
arrangements.
Melvin Oskvig, was born on
September 29, 1919 on a farm near Williams, the son of Ordin
and Isabelle (Welland) Oskvig. He attended country school.
Melvin served in the U.S. Army from 1942-46. On February 23,
1947, he was united in marriage to Vera Shillington at the
First Christian Church in Iowa Falls. He had farmed all of
his life.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Iowa Falls
and the Williams American Legion Post No. 633. He was the
No. 1 Hamilton County draftee, serving in World War II in
Washington, D.C. and Germany.
Melvin is survived by his
wife, Vera; four sons, Roger and wife, Melissa of Pittsford,
New York, Ordean and wife, Tammy of Stilwell, Kansas, Allen
and friend of Williams and Michael and friend of Leawood,
Kansas; a daughter, Arlene Blue and husband, Dale of Webster
City; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister,
Ora Hamre of Iowa Falls; a brother, Clarence Oskvig of
Alden; a brother-in-law, Richard Shillington of Alden; and
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; sisters, Beatryce Duden, Bernice Ratzke and
Alvina Porter; and brothers, Elmer, Ernest, Virgil and a
brother in infancy.

Robert Ellis Dean

ACKLEY—Robert Ellis Dean, a resident of the Presbyterian
Village in Ackley, died on Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at
the Allen
Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
A Celebration of Life Service
was held on Monday, October 13, at the Ackley United Methodist
Church. The Sietsema Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements. Memorials may be made to the AGWSR Community
Schools, where they will be used for the school band music
program.
Robert, the son of Ernest
and Ethelyn (White) Dean, was born on September 9, 1913 in Ellis
Township, Hardin County. Bob attended high school in Iowa
Falls and Corydon. He graduated from the Ames High School in
1932. Bob earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Simpson
College in 1936, majoring in piano and organ. Bob later
attended graduate school in New York City at Columbia
University and earned a master’s degree from Drake
University.
After teaching music in
several Iowa communities, Bob married Marjorie E. Duffus on
June 5, 1941. Bob served stateside in the Army during World
War II. Following his discharge he farmed and taught school
in Story County.
Bob accepted a position as
band director and moved to Ackley in August 1947. In 1952
Bob quit full-time teaching. He began selling insurance and
built that business while continuing to teach part-time at
Popejoy, Hansell and Owasa. Upon consolidation of the Ackley
and Geneva school systems, Bob taught junior high band and
vocal music at Geneva. He retired in 1974 after 36 years of
teaching. He continued to sell insurance until forced to
retire due to deteriorating eyesight.
Bob was a faithful,
lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. He held
leadership roles on many committees and boards, serving his
Lord in whatever capacity asked of him. As organist at the
Ackley United Methodist Church for 46 years, he used his
musical talents to glorify God.
Bob was a member of the
Ackley Rotary Club for 54 years and received the Paul Harris
Fellow award. Bob enjoyed playing bridge, reading and
gardening. In 2001 Bob became blind due to macular
degeneration. By living life to the fullest and refusing to
yield to bitterness, Bob inspired one and all with his
positive attitude and his refusal to let blindness rob him
of an independent, active life.
Survivors include daughter,
Marilyn Mitchem of Bettendorf; son, Duane Dean of Cedar
Falls; son-in-law, Donald Mitchem of Bettendorf;
daughter-in-law, Debbie Dean of Cedar Falls; granddaughter,
Melissa Mitchem of Bozeman, Montana; grandson, Mitchell Dean of
Cedar Falls; plus nephews, nieces and cousins.
Bob was preceded in death
by his parents; wife, Marjorie; sister, Vivian Sparboe;
brother, Lauren Dean; brother-in-law, Irving Sparboe; and
sister-in-law, Margaret Dean.

Jean “Beanie” Eide

BELMOND—Jean “Beanie” Eide,
69, of Belmond, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2008, at her
home near Belmond.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October
14, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Chaplain
Harriett Norem and Pastor Troy Pflipsen officiating. Burial
was in the Jackson Township Berlin Cemetery near Owasa. The
Dugger Funeral Home in Belmond was in charge of the
arrangements.
Jean, the daughter of Jim
and Bessie Legget Nehring, was born on June 8, 1939 in Eldora.
Jean grew up in the Owasa area where she attended schools.
Jean graduated from the Owasa High School in 1957.
Jean was united in
marriage to Carroll Eide on November 29, 1958. The couple made
their home in several Iowa communities before settling in
Belmond in 1970. Jean was a valued employee at North Iowa
Woods and the Cattleman’s Restaurant in Belmond. She was an
active member of the Belmond Hospital Auxiliary.
Beanie’s family was her
life. Following her grandkids’ activities was what her life
revolved around. She is remembered as a wonderful cook who
could feed her visitors a full meal in a moment’s notice.
Jean is survived by her
husband of nearly 50 years, Carroll; mother, Bessie of
Owasa; children, Kim Mitchell and husband, Jerry of Johnston,
Cherie Peters and husband, Tim of Des Moines, Kelly of
Johnston and Amy Carfrae and husband, Ben of Urbandale;
eight grandchildren, Nick, Cody, Sara, Chad, Austin, Jak,
Alexis and Max; two sisters, Verla Nehring of Ankeny and
Jill Trager and husband, Denny of Eldora; and numerous other
relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death
by her father; a brother; and a sister.

IOWA FALLS—Leo Neubauer, 97, of Iowa Falls, passed away on
Saturday, October 11, 2008, at the Ellsworth Hospital, Iowa Falls.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 14, at the Immanuel
Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, with the Reverend Kenneth
Krueger officiating. Burial followed in the Northlawn Memory
Gardens Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The Linn’s Funeral Home Iowa Falls
Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Leo Frank Neubauer, was
born on July 18, 1911, on his parents’ farm in Hardin County,
Iowa, between Radcliffe and Hubbard. He attended the North
Star Country School outside of Bradford through eighth
grade. On June 5, 1937, Leo was united in marriage to Helen
Theresa Hilbrand at Fort Dodge. To this union two children
were born, Dennis and Sharon. Leo drove the Standard Oil
Truck in Bradford, worked for Rath Packing in Waterloo and
started farming north of Iowa Falls in Franklin County in
1943. Leo and Helen moved into Iowa Falls in 1963.
Leo was a
member of the Grant Center Lutheran Church and the Immanuel
Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls.
Leo is survived
by his wife of 71 years, Helen Neubauer of Iowa Falls; his
two children, Dennis (Rosalie) Neubauer of Iowa Falls and
Mrs. Sharon Mulford of Iowa Falls; seven grandchildren,
Scott (Donna) Neubauer of Ames, Philip (Denise) Neubauer of
Burrton, Kansas, Amy (Mike) Emerson of Iowa Falls, Dan (Nikki) Neubauer of Ankeny, Laura (Bruce) Thies of Iowa Falls, Chad
(Sinda) Mulford of Iowa Falls and Joel (fiancée, Elizabeth) Mulford of Ankeny; fifteen great-grandchildren; four
sisters, Elnora Paul of Bancroft, Louise Heller of Iowa
Falls, Thelma Andersen of Iowa Falls and Ruth (Robert) Pekarek
of Iowa Falls; and one brother, Paul (Fern) Neubauer of
Mesa, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul
and Johanna Neubauer; one son-in-law, Dick Mulford; five
sisters, Hazel Aldinger, Clara Fraser, Ethel Liester, Hannah
Anderson and Martha Hatch; and two brothers, Lawrence Neubauer
and Harold Neubauer.

IOWA FALLS—Betty Lois Mulford, age 87, of Iowa Falls, died

Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, October 15, at

Funeral Home in Iowa Falls. There will be no services.
Betty’s wishes were to be cremated following visitation.
Betty Lois Mulford, was
born on April 30, 1921 at Iowa Falls, Iowa, the daughter of
Henry and Hazel (Bryant) Thies. She received her education
at Iowa Falls and attended the Iowa Falls High School. She
married Thomas (Rich) Mulford on January 4, 1938 at Iowa Falls.
Betty was a Avon Lady. She retired in July 2007 after 40
years with Avon.
Betty was a charter member of the Women of
The Moose and was also a member of Royal Neighbors and Rebekahs.
Survivors include two sons, Robert (Bob) Mulford
and Ronald (Ron) Mulford, both of Iowa Falls;
daughter-in-law, Sharon Mulford of Iowa Falls;
grandchildren, Chad (Sinda) Mulford, Jeff (Stacy) Mulford,
all of Iowa Falls and Joel (Elizabeth) Mulford of Ankeny;
and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, Thomas (Rich) Mulford; and son,
Richard (Dick) Mulford.

ELDORA—Erma “Jean” Farley, 75, of Eldora, formerly of Des
Moines, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2008, at the Valley View
Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora.
Funeral services will be held on
Wednesday, October 15, at 1:00 p.m., at the Iles Funeral Homes-Grandview Park Chapel in Des Moines. Burial services will
follow at the Berwick Cemetery in Des Moines.
Erma Jean Cowen, was born
in Junction City, Kansas, on January 9, 1933. She was raised in
the little town of Zeandale, Kansas, which is just eight miles
outside of Manhattan. Jean was married to Joe W. Farley on
March 20, 1951, in Manhattan, Kansas and the couple moved to
Des Moines. Jean was a homemaker in Des Moines until 2002
when she moved to the Eldora area after the loss of her
husband. Jean loved music and reading.
Jean is survived by her
two sons, Jim Farley and Dean Farley, both of Des Moines;
one daughter, Jolene Teske of Eldora; four grandchildren;
one great-grandchild; one brother, Virgil Cowen of Zeandale,
Kansas; and one sister, Loretta Read of Chandler, Arizona.

IOWA FALLS—Maxine Garver,
67, of Iowa Falls, died on Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at the
Scenic Manor Nursing Home in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services
were held on Friday, October 17, at the United Methodist Church in
Iowa Falls, with burial in the Manly Cemetery at Manly. The Surls
Funeral Home of Iowa Falls was in charge of the
arrangements.
Maxine Carol Garver, was
born on May 9, 1941 in Mason City, the daughter of Willard
and Grace (Kalous) Garver. She graduated from the Grafton
High School in 1959. She was a member of the First United
Methodist Church in Iowa Falls.
Maxine is survived by her
aunt, Lyla Kalous; and cousins, Eldon Kalous and his wife,
Darla and family, Chad and Travis, Marlin Kalous and his
wife, Barb and family, Shane and Chase, Carroll Kalous and
his wife, Becky and family Sara and Adam, Charles Tantow and
his wife, Evelyn and Max Tantow.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; an uncle, Edward Kalous; and twin cousins,
Erin and Heather Kalous.

ACKLEY—Laura Poley, 92, of
Ackley, died on Thursday, Octust 16, 2008, at the Presbyterian
Village in Ackley.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, October
19, at the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Ackley.
Private burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Ackley. The
Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley was in charge of the
arrangements. A memorial fund has been established and may
be directed to the Presbyterian Village,
Ackley, the Hospice of North Iowa,
Hampton or the St. John’s UCC, Ackley.
Laura Kathryn Poley, was
born on August 18, 1916 in rural Ackley, the daughter of Dena
(Snittjer) and Heilko Muller. She attended rural country
schools. On April 10, 1945, she was united in marriage to
Alfred Poley at Ackley. Laura was a homemaker and a member
of the St. John’s United Church of Christ.
Laura is survived by her
son, Wesley and wife, Bonnie of Cedar Falls; sisters-in-law,
Margaret Haglund of Downers Grove, Illinois and Doris Trammel
of Vista, California; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear
friends, Mildred and Ed Potgeter of Iowa Falls.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, Alfred; brothers, Eilard H. Muller
and Simon Muller; and a sister, Dorothy Muller Poley.

78, of Iowa Falls, died on Friday, October 17, 2008, at the Ellsworth
Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services were held on
Monday, October 20, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alden,
with burial in the Alden Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home in
Iowa Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Ruby Jean Puttkamer, was
born on February 5, 1930 in Hubbard, the daughter of Carl and
Alma (Rieks) Bunte. She graduated from the Radcliffe High
School. On July 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to
Floyd Puttkamer at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alden.
She was a homemaker and had worked at the Iowa Falls State Bank,
Custom Graphics and Iowa Falls Chiropractic. She was a
member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alden.
She is survived by her
husband, Floyd; a daughter, Barbara Kalous and husband,
Marlin of Alden; a son, Dale Puttkamer and wife, Ellen of
Altus, Oklahoma; a daughter, LeAnn Olson and husband, Mike of
Iowa Falls; three grandsons, Shane Kalous and wife, Annie of
Iowa Falls, Chase Kalous and wife, Brenda of Mount Pleasant
and Cody Puttkamer of Ardmore, Oklahoma; three granddaughters,
Rachael Puttkamer of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Carmen Mach
and husband, Danny of Yukon, Oklahoma and Lexie Olson and fiancée,
Dean Schlader of West Des Moines; and two
great-grandchildren, Dalton Puttkamer of Altus, Oklahoma and
Kale Kalous of Mount Pleasant.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; two sisters, Arlene Bunte and Elaine Weaver;
and a brother, Wallace Bunte.

ELDORA—Dale Richard Nance,
84, of Eldora, died from natural causes on Friday, October 17,
2008, at the Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 20, at the First
Baptist Church in Eldora, with Pastor John Scheel
officiating. Burial followed in the Eldora City Cemetery
with military honors provided by the Walter-Sayer Post 182 of
the American Legion and the Roll-Harless Post 3974 of the VFW.
The Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora is in charge of the
arrangements.
Dale was born on February 21,
1924 near New Providence, son of Luther and Eva (Kimmer)
Nance. He graduated from the New Providence High School in
1941. Dale served his country in the U.S. Army
during World War II. He flew more than 50 bombing missions
over Germany as a ball turret gunner. He was awarded an Oak
Leaf Cluster and the Air Medal. On March 19, 1948, he was
united in marriage to Dorothea May Banghart in Marshalltown.
The couple lived in New Providence until 1956, at which time
they moved to Steamboat Rock for a year before moving to
Alden in 1957. They farmed in the Alden area until retiring
and moving to Eldora in 1987. Dale was a member of the First
Baptist Church in Eldora and was a former 4-H Leader.
Surviving are his wife,
Dorothea; a son, Dennis and wife, Susan Nance of Trenton,
Michigan; two daughters, Debra and husband, Robert Lofgren of
Ecuador and Deanna and husband, Scott Hanekamp of Aurora,
New York; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline and husband, Abner White of New Providence and Irene and husband, Charles
Harvey of Eldora; and a brother, Raymond and wife, Nancy
Nance of Arizona.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Luther and Eva Nance.

MASON CITY—Alice M. Schamber, 64, of Mason City, died
Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient
Unit.
Funeral services were held on Friday, October 24, at the
Messiah Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bruce Kaltwasser
officiating. Interment was in the Grant Township Cemetery,
rural Hampton. The Major Erickson Funeral Home of Mason City
was in charge of the arrangements.
Alice was born on
September 27, 1944 in Iowa Falls, the daughter of Reuben and
Hilda (Lehmann) England. She graduated from the Iowa Falls
High School, Ellsworth Community College, Iowa State
Teachers College in Cedar Falls and received her Master’s
Degree in Greeley, Colorado. Alice taught school in Oelwein
and later overseas in Japan where she met her husband,
Lloyd. They were married on June 23, 1974 in Iowa Falls.
Alice has taught in the Business Department at North Iowa
Area Community College for the past 36 years. She loved
teaching. Alice was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church.
Alice is survived by her
husband, Lloyd Schamber of Mason City; daughters, Ruth
Christensen of Grafton and Sarah (Mark) Kroemer of Mason
City; sister, Lois (Larry) Neely of Iowa Falls; and many
nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in
death by her parents.

Friday, October 24, 2008, at the Ellsworth Municipal
Hospital, Iowa Falls.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday,
October 29, at the Immanuel Memorial United Church of
Christ, Alden. A time of visitation will be held following
the services at the church. A private burial will be held at
a later date.
Ranae
Marie Dishman, was born on January 11, 1950 at Belmond, the
daughter of Beverly Colleen (Muhlenbruch) and Robert Monroe
Dishman. She graduated from the Hampton Community Schools
with the class of 1968. On August 2, 1970, she was united in
marriage to Roger Berdahl. To this union a daughter was
born, Robyn. The couple later divorced.
Ranae
Berdahl is survived by her mother, Beverly Dishman of
Hampton; her daughter, Robyn Berdahl of Ackley; her
companion, Marty Wood of Buckeye; her sister, Ranele
Kolthoff of Alden; and her brother, Rod (Linda) Dishman of
Charles City.
She was preceded in death
by her father, Robert Dishman; and her brother, Randy
Dishman.

causes on Friday, October 24, 2008, at the Stratford Care
Center in Stratford.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday,
October 30, at the Northlawn Memory Gardens in Iowa Falls,
with Pastor David Splett of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in
Eldora officiating. Military honors will be provided by the
Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion and Roll-Harless
Post 3974 of the VFW. Memorials may be directed to Dorothy’s
Senior Center in Eldora. The Creps-Abels Funeral Home of
Eldora is in charge of the arrangements.
Martin was born on
November 5, 1914 in Hubbard, the son of Herman and Hannah (Muecke)
Rieks. He was married to Marian Doty in Northwood and after
her death in 1984, Martin was united in marriage to Lucille
Zacharia. Martin lived in the New Providence and Eldora
areas the majority of his adult life and worked for the Lawn
Hill Coop of New Providence, Harrison Furniture Store of
Union, and the Creps Furniture Store and Funeral Home of
Eldora. He was a World War II veteran, serving from 1942 to
1946 with the U.S. Army, and a member of the Walter-Sayer
Post 182 of the American Legion.
Martin was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in
Eldora and enjoyed gardening and dancing.
He is survived by sisters,
Dorothy Puttkamer of Iowa Falls and Juliet (Henry) Grabemann
of Chicago; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his wives, Marian and Lucille; brothers, Ewald and
Harold; and by a sister, Florence Kennedy.

WINDOM, Minnesota—Velma Jean Nelson, 80, passed away on
Saturday, October 25, 2008, at the Windom Area Hospital.
Graveside memorial services will be held on Saturday,
November 1, at 2:30 p.m., at the Alden Cemetery in Alden,
with the Rev. Robert Miller officiating. Visitation will be
on Thursday, October 30, from 5-7:00 p.m., at the LaCanne
Family Funeral Home in Windom, Minnesota.
Velma Jean Nelson, was
born on January 16, 1928 in Westphalia, Kansas, to Clarence
E. and Cecille (Brown) Mardick. When she was 4 years old,
her family moved to Iowa Falls. She graduated from the Iowa
Falls High School with the class of 1945.
On November 29, 1947,
Velma was united in marriage to William F. Nelson at the
Little Brown Church in Nashua. This marriage was blessed
with three sons, Donald, James and Rick. They lived in Iowa
Falls, Alden and Spirit Lake all of their married life. They
were later divorced. In 1990, Velma moved to Windom,
Minnesota to be near her sons, Rick Nelson and family and
James Nelson. In January 2008, she became a resident at the
Sogge Memorial Good Samaritan Society of Windom.
Velma was a member of the
Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. in Spirit Lake and the Women
of the Moose in Iowa Falls. She liked going to Jackpot
Junction, playing Bingo, and going to coffee with her
friends in Windom. She also enjoyed doing cross stitch and
crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her
three sons, Donald Nelson and wife, Donna of Carson City,
Nevada, James Nelson of Windom and Rick Nelson and wife,
Barb of Windom; two granddaughters, Renee and Tiffany; one
brother, Melvin Mardick and wife, Jean of Longmont,
Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.
Velma is preceded in death
by her parents; two brothers, Keith and Gerald Mardick; and
two sisters, Joanne Nelson and Shirla Behrens.

Center, Janesville, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday,
October 30, at the First United Methodist Church, Iowa
Falls, with the Rev. Carol Myer officiating. Burial will be
in the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. A time of visitation will
be from 5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Linn’s Funeral
Homes, Iowa Falls.
Phyllis Ann Wellen, was
born on September 17, 1927 at Iowa Falls, the daughter of
Hazel (Pettibone) and LaGora “Jack” Wellen. She graduated
from the Iowa Falls High School with the class of 1945. She
attended Airline School and became a stewardess. On October
23, 1948, Phyllis was united in marriage to Kenneth Verlyn
Madole at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union
three children were born, Jim, Cynthia and Tim. She lived in
Iowa Falls for many years before going into the Heritage
Care Center, Iowa Falls, and then the Cedar Crest Health
Center in Janesville, Wisconsin, to be close to her son.
Phyllis Madole is survived
by her daughter, Cynthia Madole of Charles City; her son,
Tim Madole of Janesville, Wisconsin; three grandchildren,
Melissa Madole of Janesville, Miranda Madole of Madison,
Wisconsin and Miriah Madole of Janesville.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Kenneth Verlyn Madole; her parents, Jack and
Hazel Wellen; one son, Jim Madole; and two brothers, Jack
and Dick Wellen.

October 30, at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont.
Other services will take place on Saturday, November 1, in
Columbiana, Ohio, with visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 1:45
p.m., at the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home in Columbiana and
graveside services at 2:00 p.m., at the Columbiana Cemetery,

DOWS—Oscar Leo Sporaa, 96, of Dows, passed away on Monday,
October 27, 2008, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in
Iowa Falls.
Funeral services were held
on Thursday, October 30, at the Ewing Funeral Home in
Clarion, with Pastor Martha Bennett officiating. Interment
was in the Fairview Cemetery in Dows.
Oscar, the son of Henry
and Olga (Braun) Sporaa, was born on October 26, 1912 in
Alexander. He grew up in the Alexander area where he
attended country school. Oscar served his country in the
U.S. Army during World War II. He was united in marriage
with Grace Rubendall on July 2, 1943, in Manchester,
Tennessee. Oscar and Grace made their home in Dows for 59
years.
Oscar was a self-employed
gravel hauler and worked for Toft Sand and Gravel and also
owned the DX Station in Dows.
Oscar enjoyed working with
his hands, he constructed their home by himself using ammo
boxes and converted a bus into a camper. He also built a car
for Jerry to race in Rowan and enjoyed being part of the pit
crew. He loved spending time with his grandchildren go-cart
racing and fishing.
Oscar is survived by his
children, Jerry of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, David (Marie) of
Iowa Falls, Linda (Lonnie) Christensen of Popejoy and Brenda
Ammerman of Dows; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren;
and one sister, Lena Gordon of Cambridge, Missouri.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; wife, Grace; infant son, Terry; and two
brothers.

ROCKWELL CITY—Minna Higar, 84, of Rockwell City, and
formerly of Alden, died on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at the
Marian Home in Fort Dodge.
A Mass of the Resurrection
will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, November 3, at the St.
Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora, with burial in the St.
Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 p.m.
until service time at the church on Monday. The Surls
Funeral Home in Iowa Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
Minna
Blanche Higar, was born on December 8, 1923 in Marshalltown,
the daughter of Tony and Mollie (Preissinger) Marino. She
graduated from the Marshalltown High School. On January 31,
1942, Minna was united in marriage to Virgil Robert Higar in
Los Angeles, California. She was a waitress at a restaurant
in Whitten that she owned and operated and also had been an
office secretary with Dr. Griffel in Alden. Minna loved her
grandchildren and enjoyed bingo and card games.
Minna
is survived by her two daughters, Janis Higar of Des Moines
and Lori Falkowski and her husband, John of Worthington,
Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, Virgil; a son, Robert; two
brothers; and four sisters.

ELDORA—Marvin Raye Teske, 70, of Eldora, went home to heaven
on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at the Mary Greeley Hospital
in Ames.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday,
November 3, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora, with
Pastor David Splett officiating. Burial will follow in the
Rough Woods Cemetery, rural Eldora. Visitation will be on
Sunday, from 3-7:00 p.m., at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in
Eldora.
Marvin was born on August
11, 1938 in Eldora. He was the son of Raye and Irene (Steinfeldt)
Teske. He was baptized and confirmed at the St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Eldora. Marvin graduated from the Owasa
High School in 1956. He was united in marriage with Nancy
Wehrman on October 8, 1960, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
He was an active member in the church as a Trustee, Sunday
School Superintendent, usher, Elder and a member of the
fellowship club. He also loved singing in the church choir.
He was a former member of the Farm Bureau and Farm Service
Board.
Marvin loved to farm with
his dad and brothers. He was proud to farm both his family
farm and the Wehrman Century Farm. And, he continued to
enjoy farming with his children and grandchildren. Marvin
loved to bowl, golf, play cards, watch baseball and winter
with friends in Texas. He played softball for many years,
and finally retired after achieving the dream of playing on
the church team with both his sons. His main focus in his
life was his family and church.
Marvin is survived by his
wife, Nancy of Eldora; and their two sons, Tim and Rhonda
Teske of Eldora and their children, Jamie, Sarah, Shannon
and Haley; and Steve and Cari Teske of New Providence and
their children, Trenton, Tanner and Treye; two daughters,
Brenda and Brian Young of Eldora and their children,
Brittany, Brooke Ibeling (Brent), Brady and Bradley; and Pam
and Marty Schwarck of Eldora; two brothers, Leon and Dorothy
Teske and Dale and Shirley Teske, all of Eldora; as well as
many nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Raye and Irene (Steinfeldt) Teske.

HAMPTON—Joe Ray Hunt, 73, of Hampton, passed away on
Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at the Franklin General
Hospital in Hampton.
Memorial services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, November 3, at the
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, with Pastor Dick
Parker officiating. Inurnment will be in the Hampton
Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

ACKLEY—Anna Mae Arends, 75, of Ackley, passed away on
Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at the Presbyterian Village
Care Center in Ackley.
Funeral services were held
on Friday, October 31, at the United Methodist Church in
Ackley. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Ackley. The
Linn’s Funeral Homes Ackley Chapel was entrusted with the
arrangements.
