James Lampman

IOWA FALLS-James Lampman, 72, of Iowa Falls, passed away on
Saturday, November 1, 2008, at the Mercy Medical Center,
Mason City.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, November 4, at the Immanuel Memorial United
Church of Christ, Alden, with the Rev. Bob Miller
officiating. The Linn’s Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, was in
charge of the arrangements.
James Joseph Lampman, was
born on January 4, 1936 at Red Wing, Minnesota, the son of
Leona (Hall) Lampman and Harold Holmer Lampman. He attended
the Albert Lea, Minnesota, Community Schools. James came to
Iowa Falls to help his sister on her farm. James was married
to Andrea Heffelmeir and to this marriage five children
where born. He worked for the Tanker Massey farm, the Ackley
Foods Canning factory, and at Prestress Concrete in Iowa
Falls.
James enjoyed fishing,
playing pool, sports, gambling and going to Bon Jovi
concerts. He loved spending time with his family and
friends.
He is survived by his five
children, Dawn Tripp (Frank Brothers) of Iowa Falls, Kim
Polzin of Iowa Falls, Angie (Harvey) Reed of Waterloo, Lori
(John) Hale of Alden and James Dean Lampman of Iowa Falls;
29 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild; his brothers, Ervin, Tom and Norm;
sisters, Betty and Patricia; and his significant other, Lori
Smith of Iowa Falls.
James was preceded in
death by his parents; and two sisters, Geraldine and Ruthy.

Saturday, November 1, 2008, at the Franklin General Hospital
in Hampton.
Funeral services will be
held on Wednesday, November 5, at 10:30 a.m., at the
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, with the Rev. Dr.
Edward R. Peterson officiating. Burial will take place in
the Hampton Cemetery.

NEW PROVIDENCE-Lola Beach, 104, formerly of New Providence,
died on Sunday, November 2, 2008, at the Green County
Medical Center-Long-Term Care Unit in Jefferson.
Funeral services will be
held at 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, November 6, at the Honey
Creek New Providence Friends Church in New Providence. She
will be buried in the New Providence Cemetery. Visitation
will be at the Boeke Funeral Home in Hubbard on Wednesday
from 5-8:00 p.m.

Julius “Juice”
Winter

IOWA FALLS—Julius “Juice” Winter, 55, of Iowa Falls, passed
away on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at the Hennepin County
Medical Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota, following an
automobile accident in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa.
Memorial services will be
held at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, November 8, at the Immanuel
Memorial United Church of Christ, Alden, with inurnment at
the Buckeye Cemetery. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls
Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Julius Louie Winter, was
born to Fred and Erma (Henkle) Winter on January 27, 1953,
at Hampton. He was their only child. Julius attended the
Buckeye School and later attended the Alden Community
School. He was a member of the Buckeye church until joining
the Alden United Church of Christ.
Julius was married to Jo
Baier in 1970, in Iowa Falls and to this union two children
were born, Mike and Malena. They lived on Julius’ parents’
homestead north of Buckeye. They later divorced. He later
was wed in Alden to Susan Toomsen in 1978. To this union one
child was born, Kelly. They too later divorced.
For the better part of his
life he was a truck driver. He had worked for G&K Wholesale,
Ennis Corporation and Weavers prior to starting his own
trucking company.
In Julius’ life, he
enjoyed bowling, camping, racing and going to his
grandchildren’s school and sporting events.
He will be joining his
mother; father; and many aunts and uncles in heaven.
He will be missed by his
children and grandchildren, Mike, Michelle, Danny, Drew, D.J.
and Derek Winter; Malena, Joedy, Damon, Scott and Joebie
Dennis; and Kelly and Jaelyn Barrick; his significant other,
Dawn Montgomery; very dear friend, Dan VanLangen; and a host
of friends and cousins.

Nelle Silvey

IOWA FALLS—Nelle Silvey, 94, of Iowa Falls, died on Tuesday,
November 4, 2008, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services were held
on Friday, November 7, at the United Methodist Church in
Alden, with burial in the Alden Cemetery. The Surls Funeral
Home in Iowa Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Nelle
Nance, was born on March 15, 1914 at Buchanan, Tennessee, to
parents Rubin Fisher and Sarah Nance. She lived most of her
early life in nearby Paris, Tennessee, with her Uncle, Owen
Jackson and Aunt, Ruth Jackson following the death of her
parents. She graduated from the EW Grove High School in
Paris. Nelle received her teaching certificate attending
Union University and Memphis State College in Memphis. She
taught school in Buchanan, and then worked at Camp Tyson
near Paris. There she met Emory Silvey and they were married
on January 22, 1944, at the First Baptist Church in Paris.
He preceded her in death.
Following Emory’s
discharge from service in 1946, they moved to Iowa and began
farming at a Hubble farm west of Alden. In 1953 they bought
farm land and farmed northwest of Alden until 1980, when the
couple moved to Iowa Falls. Following Emory’s death in 1998,
Nelle sold their home on Ellis Avenue and moved to the Rock
Run Apartments. In 2003, following hip surgery, she became a
resident at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls. She was
a very determined individual and a true joy to her
caregivers. She will be missed.
Nelle
was baptized in Paris at the First Baptist Church and later
transferring membership to the Alden United Methodist
Church. There she taught Sunday School, served on the church
board, and was a member of the United Methodist Women.
Nelle
also worked 13 years in the Alden Community Schools at the
Popejoy attendance center.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; and two sisters, Sue Belle Nance and Edith
Pickard, both of Paris, Tennessee.
Nelle
is survived by one daughter, Pamela (Gerald) Driscoll of
Sheboygan, Wisconsin; grandson, Michael and wife, Samika of
Aurora, Colorado; two sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces,
nephews and many lifelong friends.

Eleanor B. Rollins

WEST DES MOINES—Eleanor B. Rollins, 91, a resident of the
Fountain West Health Center in West Des Moines, passed away
on Wednesday, November 5, 2008.
At Eleanor’s request,
there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be
held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 8, at the
Resthaven Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being made by
the McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines. In lieu
of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in
her memory to the West Des Moines Public Library Friends
Foundation, West Des Moines. Funds are to be used to benefit
the children of West Des Moines.
Eleanor was a graduate of
the Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls and Drake
University in Des Moines. She taught in Eldora and was a
longtime elementary teacher in the West Des Moines Public
School System. For many years she and her late husband,
Richard owned and operated the Coast-to-Coast Hardware Store
in Iowa Falls.
She was preceded in death
by her husband; her son, James Richard; brothers, Evart
Peterson and Lloyd Peterson; and sisters, Norma Stephan and
Lenona Kinseth.
She is survived by her
daughter, Claire Obrecht of Schaumburg, Illinois; her
grandson, Daryn Obrecht of Houston, Texas; and several
nieces and nephews.

ALDEN—Sondra Lucas, 68, of Alden, died on Thursday, November
6, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
Memorial services will be
held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, November 8, at the Surls
Funeral Home in Iowa Falls, with inurnment in the Northlawn
Memory Gardens. The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls is in
charge of the arrangements.
Sondra Lee Lucas, was born
on July 5, 1940 in Hampton, the daughter of Oral Keefe and
Audeen Goodell. She graduated from the Iowa Falls High
School and Ellsworth Community College with an Art Degree.
She had worked at Herters and Farmland Foods in Iowa Falls.
Sondra was a member of the Immanuel Memorial United Church
of Christ in Alden.
She is survived by her
three daughters, Sherry Simons of Iowa Falls, Alaine Slagle
of Iowa Falls and Laurie Lucas of Iowa Falls; a son, Greg
Keefe of Iowa Falls; four grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Charlene Bartling of
Waterloo and Sheryl Tipton of Alden.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; and a sister, Barbara Wagoner.

Mardelle King

ELDORA—Mardelle King, 84, of Eldora, passed away on
Thursday, November 6, 2008, at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab
Center in Eldora.
Private family graveside
services will be held on Saturday, November 8, at the Eldora
City Cemetery, with the Rev. David Abram of Urbandale,
Mardelle’s cousin, officiating. There will be no public
visitation. The Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora is in
charge of the arrangements.
Mardelle
was born on December 29, 1923 in Des Moines, daughter of
Harry and Hazel (Gibson) Garrett and moved to Eldora as a
teenager, graduating from the Eldora High School in 1941.
She was united in marriage to Raleigh King Jr. in 1942.
After Raleigh returned from World War II, Mardelle assisted
him in the family business, King Oil Co., and was active in
activities in the Eldora United Methodist Church.
Mardelle
is survived by her sister, Betty Ridout of Omaha; daughters,
Susan (Ed) Bear of Steamboat Rock and Peggy Farrell of
Eldora; grandchildren, Lyn (Rick) Davidson of Bloomfield and
Tami (Paul) Williams of Steamboat Rock; and
great-grandchildren, Nick Davidson, Cody Davidson, Ashlea
Brouwer, Austin Brouwer and Colton Brouwer.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Raleigh; infant daughter, Celia; and four
siblings.

IOWA FALLS-Della J. Harris, 75, of Iowa Falls, passed away
on Saturday, November 8, 2008, at her home.
As per her request, no
formal funeral services will be held. The Linn’s Funeral
Homes Iowa Falls Chapel is assisting the family with
honoring Della’s wishes.
Della Jane Harris, was
born on December 11, 1932 at Moravia, the daughter of Carl
Wesley and Vera Viola (Meyer) Funkhouser. She graduated from
the Iowa Falls Community Schools with the class of 1950. On
September 20, 1980, she was united in marriage to Emory E.
Harris in Iowa Falls. She was a housewife and homemaker. She
was a member of the Immanuel Memorial United Church of
Christ, Alden.
Della Harris is survived
by her daughters, Vikkii (Ron) Ites of Iowa Falls, Stephanie
Hill of Carlisle, Pennsylvania and Margo (Dave) Hicok of
Nora Springs; a step-daughter, Susan (Kevin) Rogers of
Stanton; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two
loving and faithful companions, Teddy and Tyler; and three
sisters, Helen Pepperling of Moline, Illinois, Kathryn Rieks
of Thorton, Colorado and Alice (Eugene) Wilkie of Hubbard.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, Carl and Vera Funkhouser; her husband,
Emory; and one sister, Dorothy Madden.

William "Bill"
Honeck

SUN CITY, Arizona-Bill Honeck, son of Arthur and Lila, was
born on February 2, 1939, in Alden and died on November 8,
2008, at the age of 69 years.
He was baptized at the
Church of Christ in Des Moines. He worked various jobs and
retired from Wilson Foods after 30 years of service. In
1958, he was united in marriage to Sherry Johnson and had
five children, Angel, Lisa, Heidi, John and Bambi. On
November 17, 1969, he was united in marriage to Carol Ann
Swanson in Des Moines and from that union they had three
children, Dawn, Matthew and Mark.
Bill was a deacon at the
First Christian Church of Sun City and a member of the
American Legion, Moose Lodge and the Iowa Club.
After retirement in 2001,
Bill and Carol moved to Arizona. Bill was an avid golfer and
bowler. He also provided assistance to many in the Sun City
community. Bill was best known for his great smile, sense of
humor and friendliness.
Proceeding him in death
were his parents; his son, John; and his father-in-law,
William Swanson.
Survivors include his
wife, Carol Ann of Sun City, Arizona; his brothers, Harold
Honeck and Eileen of Grimes and Roger Honeck of Las Vegas,
Nevada; his mother-in-law, Anne Swanson of Audubon; his
seven children, Angel Honeck of Anita, Lisa Britton and
Monty of Abilene, Texas, Heidi Smith and Jared of Griswold,
Bambi Oelmann and friend, Jeff of Iowa Falls, Dawn Aneweer
of Cedar Falls, Matthew Honeck of Sun City, Arizona and Mark
Honeck and Steffanie of Boise, Idaho; 17 grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be greatly missed
by his family and friends.

Oklahoma City.

Francis “Bud” Smith

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma-Francis “Bud” Smith, passed away on Sunday,
November 9, 2008, in Oklahoma City.
Funeral services were held
on
Thursday, November 13, at the Grace Community Baptist Church in
Oklahoma City, with the Rev. Don. Demeter officiating.
Interment was in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City.
The
Howard-Harris Funeral Services of Oklahoma City was in
charge of the arrangements.
On Sunday, November 9, 2008, Bud peacefully joined his
parents, John and Ada Smith, with the Lord.
Bud was born on February 17, 1928 in Minnesota. He grew up in
Iowa with his five brothers and sisters. He had many fond
memories and loving stories of his family and childhood
friends in his loving Christian home. In 1948, he took Geraldean West as his wife. From this
union, they had four sons and one daughter. Besides the Lord
and family, Bud was creative and loved sports. Bud was
founder of The Big Red Shop, Inc., Wink Eye Huggers and
Wacky Clackers.
Bud was a gentleman who cared for all of God’s children,
witnessing to all he met. He enjoyed his later years with
many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim
“Maynard”; and his sister, Ruby.
He is survived by Geraldean Smith and their children,
Steve and Karen, Brad and Mary, David and Diane and Shirley
Jo, all of Oklahoma City, and Mike of Ardmore, Okla.; one
sister, Vivian Page of Fremont, California; brothers, Lawrence
“Babe” and Marge of Fremont, California and Eugene “Pete”
of Waterloo; and dozens of loving grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.

Marceline M. White, was
born on June 26, 1913 in Oelwein, the daughter of George and
Nell (Ryan) Jardee. She graduated from the Sacred Heart High
School in Oelwein. On October 3, 1936, Marceline was united
in marriage to Robert White in Oelwein. She had been a
homemaker.
Marceline is survived by
her son, Bob and wife, Ann of Iowa Falls; grandson, Rob
White and his wife, Kristin; and great-grandchildren,
Allison and Alex of Mason City; granddaughter, Barbara Blake
and husband, Joe and great-grandchildren, Leah and Brady of
Indianola; grandson, David White of Urbandale; and grandson,
Michael White and wife, Anne and great-grandchild, Sidney
Jane of Chelsea, Michigan.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, Bob; a sister, Georgine; and two
grandchildren, Nancy and Matthew.

Vivian B. Kulow

HUBBARD-Vivian B. Kulow, 95, of Hubbard, passed away on
Thursday, November 13, 2008, at the Scenic Manor, Iowa
Falls.
Funeral services were held
on Monday, November 17, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church,
Iowa Falls, with the Rev. Kenneth Krueger officiating.
Burial followed in the Northlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery,
Iowa Falls. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel was
in charge of the arrangements.
Vivian Burnesse Rodgers,
was born on January 9, 1913 at Buckeye, the daughter of
Ralph Clark Rodgers and Louise (Nolte) Rodgers. She was
confirmed in 1927 at the Peace Evangelical Church. She
attended the Buckeye Community Schools, graduating with the
class of 1931. She then went on to attain her Registered
Nursing Degree from the Broadlawns Hospital Nursing School,
Des Moines, in 1934.
On February 24, 1937,
Vivian was united in marriage to Martin Herman Otto Kulow.
The couple made their home on a farm north of Hubbard from
1942 to 1975, when they moved into Hubbard, until 1998 when
they moved to Iowa Falls. Vivian was employed as a
registered nurse with Drs. Shurtz and Nyquist in Eldora. She
was first a member of the Peace Evangelical Church, Buckeye;
then St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hubbard; then St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church, Buckeye; and finally Immanuel Lutheran
Church, Iowa Falls. Vivian enjoyed her bridge and 500 clubs.
Vivian B. Kulow is
survived by her sons, Kenneth Martin (Mary Lou) Kulow of
Loda, Illinois, Norman Keith (Pam) Kulow of Hubbard and
David Eugene Kulow of Westminster, Maryland; her daughters,
Kathi (Rod) Parrish of Coal Valley, Illinois and Cynthia
Kulow (partner Dawn Hutt) of Westminster, Maryland; 11
grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; one
great-great-grandchild; and one step-great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, Ralph and Louise Rodgers; her husband,
Martin Kulow; two brothers, Hillis Rodgers and Brighton
Rodgers; and one half-brother, Kenneth Rodgers.

IOWA FALLS-Mary Jo Lopez Moolick, 58, of Iowa Falls, passed
away on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, November 19, at the Linn’s
Funeral Chapel, Iowa Falls.
Mary Jo Lopez, was born in
Sante Fe, New Mexico on April 4, 1950, the daughter of Ted
M. Lopez and Josephine (Bustamente) Lopez. She was reared in
Sante Fe and attended both grade and high school in Sante
Fe. She lived in Sante Fe until 1969, when she moved to
California to attend the Orange County Community College.
There she met her husband, Terry Weismann and subsequently
moved to Iowa. The couple later divorced.
Mary Jo is survived by her
children, Chris Weismann of Iowa Falls, Tim Weismann of Iowa
Falls, Albert Moolick of Berkley, California and Amanda
Miller of Waterloo; brothers, Ted A. Lopez of Albuquerque,
New Mexico and Michael A. (Maria) Lopez of Chama, New
Mexico; sisters, Cordelia Reynolds of Callas, Texas, Lita L.
(Walter) Chavez of Placitas, New Mexico, Mary Jean (Albert)

IOWA FALLS-Nancy Wessels, 85, of Iowa Falls, died on Monday,
November 17, 2008, in Carrollton, Texas.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, November 21, at the St.
Mark’s Catholic Church in Iowa Falls, with burial in the St.
Mark’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m., on
Thursday, at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls, with a
7:00 p.m. Scripture Service. A memorial fund has been
established in Nancy’s name for the Nursing Program at the
Ellsworth Community College.
Nancy Mary Wessels, was
born on November 5, 1923 in Charles City, the daughter of
Thomas and Mary (Campbell) Keefe. She graduated from the
Charles City High School and attended Mt. Mercy in Cedar
Rapids, the University of Iowa in Iowa City and graduated
from the St. Joe’s School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids. She
was united in marriage to DuWayne J. Wessels on September
10, 1948 in Charles City. She worked as an R.N. at Ellsworth
Municipal Hospital for 40 years. In December of 2005 she
retired as an R.N. from the Heritage Care Center in Iowa
Falls.
Throughout her life she
and her husband were very active in the Elks Club, both at
the local and state level. She was involved in many Bridge
Club activities, including teaching bridge locally for a
number of years. She was a member of the St. Mark’s Catholic
Church and the Highland Country Club.
Nancy privately gave her
time to many families in Iowa Falls, in their time of need
so their loved ones could spend their final days in their
homes.
Nancy is survived by her
daughter, Mary Janet Anderson and husband, Pete of
Carrollton, Texas; a son, DuWayne J. Wessels Jr. and wife,
Linda of Waterloo; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Dr.
Patrick Keefe and wife, Rosemary of Dewitt and Judge Joseph
Keefe and wife, Lola of Decorah.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, DuWayne; and a bother, Tommy.

JOHNSTON-Bill Wagner, 81, passed away at home on Monday
evening, November 17, 2008. After years of multiple health
issues and a final valiant fight against cancer, he is now
pain-free.
Funeral services will be
held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 22, at the New
Hope United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Neil Cross
officiating. Private burial will be in the Ridgedale
Cemetery in Johnston. The Iles Funeral Homes-Westover
Chapel, Des Moines, is in charge of the arrangements.
Bill was born in Southern
Illinois to William N. and Stella (Richardson) Wagner. After
losing both of his parents at a young age, he made his home
with Ray and Cleone Lake of Iowa Falls, where he graduated
in 1945.
Following graduation he
joined the Army Air Corps and served two years. In 1952,
Bill began working for the N.W. Telephone Co. and retired in
1989. A longtime resident of Johnston, Bill served on the
City Council from 1976 to 1983. He also served on the City
of Johnston Board of Adjustments for an additional 12 years.
Bill was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church,
where he ushered and served. Bill also belonged to the
Johnston Legion Post 728.
He is survived by his
wife, “Jane”; his children, Brad, Scott (Angie) and Mary
(Jon) Freeman; five grandchildren, Dustin, Dylan, Skylar,
Cheyenne and Cassidy; and many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; sister, Edna Drone of Mt. Carmel, Illinois;
and twin brother, Franky
Memorials may be made to
the New Hope United Methodist Church, Des Moines.

IOWA FALLS-Barbara Jaques, 89, of Ottumwa, and formerly of Iowa
Falls, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at the Good
Samaritan Nursing and Rehab Center, Ottumwa.
A Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, November 22, at the St.
Mark’s Catholic Church, Iowa Falls, with inurnment at the
Northlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The family
requests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Good
Samaritan, Ottumwa, Iowa or to the Iowa
Hospice, Oskaloosa, Iowa. The Linn’s
Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel was in charge of the
arrangements.
Barbara Jean Usher, was born
on March 20, 1919 at Des
Moines. She attended school in Adel and Des Moines,
graduating from the Roosevelt High School. She attended the Iowa
State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, receiving her teaching
certificate. She was married to W. Kenneth Jaques in 1941.
Two children were born to this union, Catherine and Thomas.
Her husband, Kenneth preceded her in death in 1997.
They
farmed together in the Lee Center Community north of Iowa Falls,
before moving to Iowa Falls where she resided until moving
to Sylvan Woods, Ottumwa, in 2000. After college Barb taught
in a country school and was later employed at Boyt’s Luggage
office, the Iowa Falls Dr.’s Clinic and Ellsworth Community
College.
She loved gardening and especially her hostas. She
possessed a creative mind creating many beautiful quilts and
treasures for her family and friends. She enjoyed many
special times with her grandchildren. Barb was a member of
the
St. Mark Parish in Iowa Falls and St. Mary of the Visitation
in Ottumwa. She was also a member of the Iowa Falls/Alden
Garden Club, Mothers Club, and Retired Teachers Association.
Barbara is survived by her children, Tom (Judy) Jaques of Alden and Cathy (Brent) Altfillisch of Ottumwa;
eight grandchildren, Jeffrey (Julie) Altfillisch of Bowling
Green, Kentucky, Mark (Heidi) Altfillisch of Ottumwa, Ann (Mike)
Espeset of Ames, Emily (Ryan) Melcher of Des Moines, Daniel
(Iris) Jaques of Panama City, Florida, Matthew Jaques of Panama
City, Florida, Rebecca Jaques of Chillicothe and Joanna (Chad) Kuiper of St. Michael, Minnesota; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mary Louise Smith, was
born on May 23, 1929 at Riceville, the daughter of Clara
Elizabeth (Roethler) and Otto August Dettmer. She graduated
from the Immaculate Conception High School, Charles City,
with the class of 1947. On August 30, 1947, she was united
in marriage to Robert Lyle Smith at the Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church, Charles City. To this union one
daughter was born, Renee.
They made their home in
Iowa Falls where Mary was employed as a secretary at the
Iowa Falls Junior High School and Iowa Electric for many
years. She was a member of the Iowa Falls/Alden Garden Club
and the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 188, Iowa Falls.
Mary Louise Smith is
survived by her daughter, Renee (Tom) Stonebrook of Eldora;
one grandson, Michael (Shelley) Johnson of Fairfax; one
great-granddaughter, Sophia Renae Johnson of Fairfax; and
two great-nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Robert Smith; and her parents.

IOWA FALLS-Herbert O. Monson, 81, of Iowa Falls, and
formerly of Ames and Story City, passed away on Sunday,
November 23, 2008, at the Hubbard Care Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, November 29, at the
St. Mark’s Catholic Church. A time of visitation and
fellowship will follow the services at the church. Mr.
Monson donated his body to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester,
Minnesota. Inurnment will follow at a later date in the
Fairview Cemetery, Story City. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa
Falls Chapel assisted the family with the donation process
and is assisting the family with the services.
Herbert Oran Monson, was
born on February 9, 1927 at Story City, the son of Mary A.
(Shaw) and Lewis H. Monson. He graduated from the Story City
Community Schools with the class of 1945. On May 29, 1954,
Herbert was united in marriage to Clara J. Luebbers at the
St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Geneva.
The couple had lived in
Ames, Bella Vista, Arkansas and Iowa Falls. Herbert was
employed by the Jack Barrow Construction Company, Ames,
retiring in 1989 and also the Walmart Carpenter Shop. He was
a member of St. Mark Parish, Iowa Falls and a member of the
Knights of Columbus.
Herbert is survived by his
wife, Clara Monson of Iowa Falls; and his sister, Genevieve
Monson of Story City.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Lewis and Mary Monson; and his sister,
Marion Solyst.

DOWS-Otto P. “Benny” Bonin, 87, of Dows, went to heaven on
Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at the Wright Medical Center in
Clarion.
Funeral services were held
on Monday, December 1, at the
First Lutheran Church in Dows, with Pastor Robert Edwards
officiating. Burial was in the Colo cemetery in Colo.
Graveside military rites were conducted by the American
Legion Colo Post No. 139. The Dugger Funeral Home of Dows
was in charge of the arrangements.
Otto Paul Henry Bonin, was
born on May 14, 1921 on a farm near Buckeye, to Max and
Edith (Mitchell) Bonin. He attended school in the Iowa Falls
area. On November 2, 1940, Otto and
Ida Johnson were married in Burt. To this union nine
children were born, Linda, Judy, Pat, Pauline, MaDonna,
David, LouAnn, Daniel and Shirley.
Otto enlisted at age 22 on
September 18, 1943, in the Navy and served in the Pacific
Theater during World War II. He was a laborer who retired in
1986 and moved from Colo to Dows. In 1996 his wife, Ida
passed away.
Otto enjoyed fishing,
dancing, woodworking, playing cards (especially Pepper), and
watching old westerns and war movies on video.
He married Beverly Barz on
July 25, 1998 in Dows. They resided in the Dows area.
Otto is survived by his
wife, Beverly; five children, Judy Kreitlow of Kirbyville,
Missouri, Patricia (Donald) Lane of Dows, David (Joy) Bonin of
Belmond, LouAnn (Leroy) Sharp of Cushing, Oklahoma and Shirley
(Charles) Pack of Des Moines; two sisters, Louise
Roberts of Iowa Falls and Ethel Shane of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews
blessed Otto’s life.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; three brothers, Herman, Max and Hugo; one
sister, Viola Whipple; wife, Ida; one son, Daniel; and three
daughters, Linda, MaDonna and Pauline.

Friday, November 28, 2008, at the Scenic Manor, Iowa Falls.
Funeral
services were held on Tuesday, December 2, at the Immanuel Lutheran
Church, Iowa Falls, with the Rev. Kenneth Krueger
officiating. Burial followed in the Northlawn Memory Gardens
Cemetery, Iowa Falls. The Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls
Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Irma Ruth Blome, was born
on
March 15, 1920 at Somers, the daughter of Hedwig Lydia (Kasischke)
and Adolph Fred Blome. She graduated from the Farnhamville
High School with the class of 1937. On March 12, 1942, Irma
was united in marriage to Oswald John Jacobson at the St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church, Fort Dodge. To this union two children were
born, Lee Ann and Mary Jane. She had been employed as an
assistant postmaster with the Farnhamville Post Office
before her marriage.
Irma was a homemaker,
mother, wife and 4-H Leader. Irma was a member of the
Immanuel Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, where she taught
Sunday School, vacation Bible School and sang in the church
choir for a number of years. Irma and Ossie delivered
Meals-On-Wheels for many years.
Irma Jacobson is survived
by her daughter, Mary Jane Jacobson of Iowa Falls; her
son-in-law, Darrell Harless of Charles City; two
grandchildren, Kristin Harless-Hall and husband, Jason of Des
Moines and Matthew Harless of Des Moines; two
great-grandchildren, Ashton and Owen Hall of Des Moines; one
sister, Ruth E. Blome of Iowa Falls; and three
sisters-in-law, Marie Crook of Mechanicsville, JoAnn
Emmerson of Riverside, California and Cecyle Blome of New
Braunfels, Texas.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Ossie Jacobson; her parents, Adolph and
Hattie Blome; a daughter, Lee Ann Harless; two sisters,
Rhoda Barhite and Vera McGilvrey; and one brother, Arlind
Blome.

November 28, 2008, at the Ashbrook Assisted Living.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, December 2, at the Immanuel Memorial United
Church of Christ in Alden, with burial in the Alden
Cemetery. The Surls Funeral Home in Alden was in charge of
the arrangements.
Mary Ialeen Silke, was
born on July 3, 1915 in Alden, the daughter of Earl and
Elizabeth (Keller) Cary. She graduated from the Alden High
School. On March 15, 1943, Mary was united in marriage to
Harry Silke in Alden.
She was a member for more
than 50 years of the Immanuel Memorial United Church of
Christ and the Church Circle, the American Legion Auxiliary
and helped with the Alden Blood Drive at the Legion. She was
also a member of the Alden Woman's Club while it was in
operation. She had been a past grand marshal of the Alden
Egg Days in 1998 and helped with the Alden Food Pantry. She
had a scholarship for two Alden Township graduates since
1997.
Mary is survived by her
two nephews, Lyle V. Cary Jr. and wife, Mary Beth of Decorah
and William E. Cary and wife, Von of Cedar Rapids; and two
nieces, Cindy Cary of Madison, Wisconsin and Mary E. Cary of
La Crosse, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents;

PARKERSBURG-Elmer Sansenbach, 93, of Parkersburg, died on
Friday, November 28, 2008, at the Maple Manor Village,
Aplington, of natural causes.
Funeral services were held
on
Monday, December 1, at the Parkersburg United Methodist Church,
with burial at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg. The
Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg was in charge of
the arrangements.

Margaret M. Gebo

MARSHALLTOWN-Margaret M. Gebo, 88, of Marshalltown, passed
away on Saturday, November 29, 2008, at the Southridge Nursing & Rehab
Center in Marshalltown.
Private family inurnment will be
held in Las Vegas. The Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory has
been entrusted with caring for Margaret and her family.
Margaret was born on October 2,
1920 in Alden, the daughter of Albert and Minnie (Bahr) Warschkow. She was raised in Alden and Iowa Falls. In 1959,
she moved to Las Vegas where she was a hostess at
McDonald’s. In 1961, she was united in marriage to Arthur H.
Gebo in Las Vegas.
Left to mourn her loss is
her brother, Paul (Jennie) Warschkow of Ankeny; and her
sisters, Emma Fessler of Marshalltown and Dorothy (G.L.)
Hastings of Marshalltown.
Margaret was preceded in
death by her parents; her brother, Ernest; her sister, Marie
Fisher; and two husbands.

ACKLEY-Ruth Homan, 87, of Ackley, died on Saturday, November 29,
2008, at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley.
Funeral services will
be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, December 3, at the United Methodist
Church in Ackley, with burial in the Oakwood Cemetery,
Ackley. The Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley is in charge of
the arrangements.
Ruth Marlyn Homan, was born
on June 16, 1921 in Ackley, the daughter of Herman and
Jenny (Riebkes) Heitland. She graduated from the Ackley High
School. On October 12, 1938, Ruth was united in marriage to
Woodrow Homan at the United Methodist Church in Ackley.
She
was a member of the United Methodist Church, Bridge Clubs,
United Methodist Women, Ackley Country Club, and enjoyed
activities at the Presbyterian Village.
Ruth is survived by her
son, Gary and wife, Sharon of Bella Vista, Arkansas; three
daughters, Sharryl DeBerg and husband, Trenton of Ackley,
Connie Thomas and husband, Doug of Geneva and Kela Walton
and husband, Steve of Ackley; 10 grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Johns and Esther Hirth, both of Ackley; and a brother, Wallace Heitland of
Ackley.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; husband, Woodrow; grandson, Shawn DeBerg;
sisters, Gladys Diemer, Della Greenfield, Lucile Faint and
Dorothy Roelfs; and brothers, Harvey Heitland and Raymond
Heitland.

Saturday, November 29, 2008, at the Presbyterian Village in
Ackley.

HAMPTON-Mary B. McCoy, 76, of Hampton, passed away on Saturday,
November 29, 2008, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in
Mason City.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, December 2, at
the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hampton, with burial in
the Hampton Cemetery. Fr. Bernard Grady officiated at the
service. The Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton was in
charge of the arrangements.

James "Jim" Merklin

IOWA FALLS-James "Jim" Merklin, 90, of Iowa Falls, passed
away on Sunday, November 30, 2008, at the Ellsworth Municipal
Hospital, Iowa Falls.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on
Thursday, December 4, at the First Christian Church, Iowa Falls,
with Pastor T.J. Norman officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. A time of visitation will be
from 5-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, at the Linn’s Funeral Home Iowa
Falls. Memorials may be directed to the North Iowa Hospice,
Hampton, Iowa.
James Pershing Merklin, was
born on July 25, 1918 at Sheldon, the son of Helena (White)
and Edward Merklin. He attended the Worthington, Minnesota,
Community Schools. During the hard times of the Depression,
Jim was lovingly raised by Agnes and Lyle Mitchell of Spirit
Lake. On March 28, 1942, he was united in marriage to Margret (Susie) Anderienne Hanson at Worthington, Minnesota.
After her death he was united in marriage to Gladys Sanders
on August 15, 1987 at Iowa Falls.
Jim was a blacksmith who
owned and operated the Merklin Blacksmith and Welding Shop
in Iowa Falls for many years before retiring in 1982. He was
a member of the First Christian Church, Iowa Falls, where he
had served as an elder and trustee for many years. He was
also a member of the Iowa Blacksmith and Welders
Association.
Jim Merklin is survived by
his wife, Gladys Merklin of Iowa Falls; his two sons, Thomas Merklin of Iowa Falls and Daniel (Darlene) Merklin of Iowa
Falls; two grandchildren, Todd (Tammy) Merklin of Iowa
Falls and Shanlee (Bob) Speeter of Minnetonka, Minnesota; five
great-grandchildren, Ainslee Merklin of Iowa Falls, Tayla
Sunde of Mapleton, Minnesota, Tegan Sunde of Mapleton, Meicyn
Zierke of Minnetonka and Kysten Zierke of Minnetonka; his
special sister, Joyce (Roger) Overocker of Spirit Lake; one
brother, Joseph Merklin of St. Peter, Minnesota; one sister,
Betty (Joe) Hermaling of Fulda, Minnesota; three step-children,
Arthur (Karolyn) Sanders of Hartford, Wisconsin, Shirley
(Gene) Harms of Baraboo, Wisconsin and Peggy (Ike) Rooks of Eldora;
seven step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Helena and Edward Merklin; his first wife,
Susie Merklin; a granddaughter, Paige Sunde; one sister,
Margaret Merklin; and one brother, Edward Merklin Jr.

Oakwood Cemetery, Ackley. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m.,
on

receiving friends from 4-6:00 p.m.
