Willis Swanstrom

Willis Edgar Swanstrom, 84, of Grants Pass, Oregon, died on Sunday, October 7, 2001, at the Royale Gardens Health Center in Grants Pass.

A graveside service was held at the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Willis was born on September 27, 1917 in Iowa Falls, to August and Anna Swanstrom. On May 15, 1943, he married Valeria Dul, who died on May 23, 1999. He was a lieutenant commander in the United States Navy and served from April 1936 to July 1963, including service during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.

In 1977 he moved to Grants Pass where he was a member of the St. Anne Catholic Church and the U.S. Navy Fleet Reserve.

He is survived by three daughters, Agnes Knight and Mary Shoumaker, both of Long Beach and Elizabeth Talbot of Fontana, California; two sons, Willis Swanstrom of Cypress, California and Richard Swanstrom of Long Beach, California; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Geraldine Godsell

Geraldine "Gerry" Delores Godsell, 66, of Iowa Falls, died on Tuesday, October 23, 2001, at her home.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 27, at 2:00 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls, with Rev. Don Preston officiating. Memorials may be directed to her family.

Geraldine was born on October 31, 1934 at Burdette, to Carroll and Dorothy Ellison Madden. She graduated from the Iowa Falls High School in 1952. On May 28, 1953, she married Bill Godsell at Iowa Falls. She was an at-home mother and housewife but had also been a clerk for Arrowood Marine, Iowa Falls. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls. Jerry enjoyed her computer.

 She is survived by her husband, Bill of Iowa Falls; a son, Ken Godsell and wife, Sondra of Belmond; a daughter, Diane Love and husband, Bart of Iowa Falls; three grandchildren, Jenny and Casey Godsell of Belmond and Danette Love of Iowa Falls; her parents, Carroll and Dorothy Madden of Iowa Falls; and a sister, Jessie Birchard and husband, Everett of Lake City, Florida.

The Linn's Funeral Home of Iowa Falls, was in charge of the arrangements.

Sophie Norris

Sophie K. Norris, 93, of Dows, died on Friday, October 26, 2001, at the USA Health Care Center in Dows.

Services were held on Tuesday, October 30, at the United Methodist Church in Dows, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Dows. Pastor Tony Hershey officiated.

Sophie was born on April 26, 1908 in Spandet, Denmark, to Peter and Hansena Ditlefsen Eson. She came to America in 1915 at the age of 7, settling at Rowan. She attended school in Rowan and on December 18, 1928, she married Virgil Norris and they farmed southwest of Dows. After the death of her husband in 1981, she moved into Dows.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Colleen Rotschafer and husband, Leonard of Webster City and Clareen Markwardt and husband, Steve of Iowa Falls; a son, Jerry Norris and wife, Janice of Dows; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Margret Hackley and a brother, Nels Eson.

The Elledge Funeral Home in Dows, was in charge of the arrangements.

Tisha Butt
December 24, 1948-October 27, 2001

Tisha D. Butt, 52, of Hampton, died on Saturday, October 27, 2001, at her home.

Services were held on Tuesday, at the Church of Christ in Hampton, with burial in Hazelgreen Cemetery, rural Ackley. Pastor David Nelson officiated.

Tisha was born on December 24, 1948 at Searsboro, to George and Ina Giesler Guthrie. She graduated from the Newton High School and on April 18, 1987, she married Larry Butt at the Church of Christ in Hampton. She was a medical technician at the Franklin General Hospital for 25 years and a member of the Church of Christ in Hampton.

Tisha was a long time board member of AMT, serving as past president; a volunteer at the Franklin General Hospital; a Sunday School teacher and V.B.S. leader; and a member of softball and bowling teams.

She is survived by her husband, Larry of Hampton; three sisters, Opal Johnson and husband, Les and Faye Fuqua and husband, Dick, all of Lamoni and Betty Lufkin and husband, Ron of Morrison, Colorado; and a brother, Ray McCreery of Mayfield, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Dollie, Millie and Berney; and two brothers, George and Bob.

The Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, was in charge of the arrangements.

Sophia Dahle
September 26, 1930-October 28, 2001

Sophia Anne Dahle, 71, of Northfield, Minnesota, died on Sunday, October 28, 2001, at the Northfield Hospital in Northfield, Minnesota.

Services will be held on Friday, November 2, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Northfield, with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery, Northfield. Rev. John Quam will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the Benson Funeral Home in Northfield and one hour before services on Friday.

Sophia was born on September 26, 1930 in Webster City, to Elmer and Iva Satre Fardal. She was raised on a farm near Stanhope and graduated from the Stanhope High School in 1948. She received a bachelor of arts in music education and taught elementary music in several schools.

She was a former member of the Haddonfield Symphony Orchestra in New Jersey. She enjoyed needlepoint, visiting with friends and good political debate. On August 17, 1958, she married Leland Dahle at our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanhope. After their marriage they lived in Minneapolis and she worked for Schmitt Music Company. In 1969, they moved to Cherry Hill, New Jersey where she taught private violin and piano lessons. In 1992, they retired in Northfield, where they and their daughters had gone to St. Olaf College.

She is survived by two daughters, Joan Hanson and husband, Mark of Iowa Falls and Andrea Morics and husband, Steven of Redlands, California; and four grandchildren, Leah and Kari Hanson, Kate and Peter Morics.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband in 1996.

Carl Brady
March 25, 1915-October 28, 2001

Carl L. Brady, 86, of Iowa Falls, died on Sunday, October 28, 2001, at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City.

Services will be held on Thursday, November 1, at 10:30 a.m., at the Surls Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, with burial in the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Rev. Brian King will officiate. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 4-8:00 p.m., at the Surls Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8:00 p.m. Full military rites will be provided by the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188.

Carl was born on March 25, 1915 in Iowa Falls, to Joseph and Bessie Mann Brady. He graduated from the Iowa Falls High School in 1933 and served 56 months in the United States Army during World War II. On December 11, 1955, he married Margaret Madole in Iowa Falls. He was a mechanic for Ford Motor Company in Iowa Falls for many years.

Carl was a member of the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No.188 and former president of the Iowa Falls Men's Bowling Association.

He is survived by three daughters, Deb Wisehart of Tuscon, Arizona, Valerie Garland of Arlington, Texas and Susan Lutz of Iowa Falls; two sons, Dan Brady of Washburn and Mike Brady of Iowa Falls; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife; and two brothers.
