Donald Stull

Donald R. Stull, 86, of Eldora, died on Friday, November 2, 2001,
at the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center.
Services were held on
Tuesday, November 6, at the Beaman United Methodist Church in Beaman, with burial
in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Grundy Center. Rev. Mary Shultz
officiated. American Legion Post No. 349 and AMVETS No 17 provided
full military honors.
Donald was born on June 3, 1915 in rural Beaman, to Clarence and Jennie
Rowe Stull. He graduated from the Beaman High School in 1933 and
attended Iowa State University studying engineering. He was a
veteran of WW II and served in the Africa and Italy theaters. In the
late 40's and 50's he owned and operated Stull Motor Company in
Grundy Center. On December 27, 1954, he married Loretta Connell in
Grundy Center and they lived in Grundy Center. He went into the dry
cleaning and laundry service, owning several businesses in North
Central Iowa, including Don's Cleaners in Grundy Center. He retired
in 1980 and moved to Eldora in 1999.
He was a former member of the Beaman United Methodist
Church and the Beaman and Grundy Center American
Legions. He was a great story teller and was an avid sports fan.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta; three daughters, Shelley Stull
and husband, Frank Webb of Chicago, Illinois, Melody Hoy and
husband, Tim of Eldora and Tamara Evans and husband, Tom of
Seattle, Washington; a son, Rev. Neal Stull of Cromwell, Connecticut; a sister,
Maxine Ashton and husband, Floyd of Beaman; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dale.

Michael Smith

Michael Jon Smith, 51, of Steamboat Rock, was killed on Sunday,
November 4, 2001, in a motorcycle accident near Bondurant on
Hwy. 65.
Services will be held on Friday, November 9, at 1:30 p.m.,
at the First Baptist Church in Steamboat Rock, with burial in
the Steamboat Rock Cemetery. Rev. Steven Hill will
officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 3-8:00 p.m., at
the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls, with
the family present from 6-8:00 p.m.
Michael "Mike" was born on March 13, 1951 in Eldora, to Jack and Donna
Babcock Smith. He graduated from the Steamboat Rock High School in 1969
and attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On July 24,
1974, he married Dennise Huston in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He farmed and
was a truck driver for Herrold Trucking in Owasa.
He was a member of
the Pine Lake Saddle Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was
involved in numerous church activities and was the former assistant
wrestling coach at Ackley High School.
He is survived by his wife, Dennise; and two sons, Lucas and Levi
of Iowa Falls; his parents, Jack and Donna Smith of Steamboat Rock;
a brother, Tod Smith and his wife, Deanna of Ackley; a sister,
Shelley Whitlatch and husband, Michael of Tucson, Arizona; his
mother-in-law, Hazel Huston Hickman of Marshalltown; and thirteen
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Zachary in 1996.

Steamboat Rock man killed in traffic accident
November 7, 2001
BONDURANT-A Steamboat Rock man was killed and his wife is
in serious condition at a Des Moines hospital, the result of a
car - motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon.
Michael John Smith, 50, of Steamboat Rock, was pronounced dead
at the scene of a two-vehicle accident near Bondurant on Sunday
afternoon. His wife, 51-year-old Dennise K. Smith, is currently
listed in serious condition at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des
Moines.
According to the Polk County Sheriff's Department, Michael and
Dennise Smith were traveling southwest on Hwy. 65 on a 1999
Suzuki motorcycle when they struck a 1995 Cadillac driven by
68-year-old Herbert Hill of Ankeny. According to the accident
report, Hill was attempting to cross the highway from 72nd
Street when the accident occurred.
Hill and a passenger were treated at the scene for minor
injuries and Dennise Smith was life-flighted to Iowa Methodist
in Des Moines. The accident was reported at 2:10 p.m., Sunday,
November 4.

Warren Truesdale

Warren Truesdale, 51, of Steamboat Rock, died on
Sunday, November 4, 2001, of renal failure at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in
Des Moines.
Services will be held on Thursday, November 8, at 10:30 a.m., at
the First Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock, with burial in the
Steamboat Rock Cemetery. Pastor Bruce Baillie will officiate.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 5-8:00 p.m., at the Creps-Abels Funeral
Home in Eldora.
Warren was born on November 16, 1949 in Englewood, New Jersey, to Elmer and Mittie Davis Truesdale. He graduated from
the Englewood High School and
served during the Vietnam conflict in the United States Air Force.
He was married to Margaret Flowers and they were later divorced. On
March 14, 1985, he married Deborah Saunders in Engelwood. They moved
to Eldora in 1987 and he worked as a youth worker for the Iowa State
Training School for Boys until taking disability retirement in 1999.
He was a member of the Steamboat Rock First Presbyterian Church and
served as vice president for AFSME, Local No. 2988. His hobbies were
hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah; three sons, Adam and James,
residing on the East Coast and Warren D. Truesdale of Steamboat
Rock; and a brother, Elmer "Billy" Truesdale of South Carolina.
He was
preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mittie Elizabeth; and
an infant twin sister, Wendy.

Margaret Crotty

Margaret Mae Crotty, 79, of Hampton, died on Monday, November 5,
2001, at her home.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 7, at 1:30
p.m., at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, with burial in the
Hampton Cemetery. Rev. Steve Anderson will officiate.
Margaret was born on August 9, 1922 at Bristow, to William and Thelma
Hershey Sidmore. She graduated from the Bristow High School and married
Bud Crotty. She was a dietician at the Franklin General Hospital in
Hampton.
Margaret was a member of the United Church of Christ in
Hampton and enjoyed bowling and singing in the choir.
She is survived by a son, Keith Crotty of Montley, Minnesota; two
daughters, Karen Wilkin of Hampton and Karla Reynolds and husband,
Jim of Ankeny; two brothers, Darold "Doug" Sidmore and wife,
Marlene of Bristow and Erwin Sidmore and wife, Helen of Madrid;
eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; her husband; a son; two sisters and one
brother.

Elmer Peterson

Elmer Peterson, 86, of Dows, died on Monday, November 5, 2001, at
the USA Health Care Center in Dows.
Services will be held on
Thursday, November 8, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Lutheran Church in
Dows, with burial in the Fairview Cemetery, Dows. Rev. Paul
Thompson will officiate. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 5-7:00 p.m., at the Elledge Funeral
Home in Dows.
Elmer was born on December 1, 1914 at Rollo, Illinois, to Alfred and Kamilla
Marker Peterson. When he was two years old they moved to Clarion,
later to Williams and finally to the Dows area. He received his
education in Wright and Hamilton County Schools and was confirmed at
the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in 1929. On June 18, 1949, he married Aletha Lentz at Brainerd, Minnesta. They operated Peterson Trucking and
later resumed farming.
He is survived by a son, Don Lancaster and his wife, Barbara of Des
Moines; a daughter, Shelby Lancaster Toussaint and husband, Jim of
Ellsworth; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two
sisters, Agnes Greaves and Helen Christopher.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; his wife, Aletha in 1999; two brothers; a
sister; and a grandson.

Cavanaugh Hospice House at Ames.
Funeral services will be
held on Thursday, November 8, at the Linn's Funeral Home in Iowa Falls,
with burial in the Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Visitation will
be from 2-8:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends between
6-8:00 p.m. Military honors will be provided by the Hyman-Peavey
American Legion Post No. 188, Iowa Falls.

Merland Bohnsack

Merland Franz Bohnsack, 80, of Hampton, died on Wednesday, November
7, 2001, at his home.
Services were held on Monday, November 12, at
the
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, with burial in the Maynes Grove
Cemetery, rural Bradford. Dick Parker officiated.
Merland was born on April 2, 1921 in Franklin County, to Henry and
Lizzie Thompson Bohnsack. He attended the Hansell Grade School and
graduated from the Hampton High School. He served in the United States
Navy during World War II from 1942-46. On October 15, 1949, he married
Mary Baldwin in Faribault, Minnesota. Merland was employed by John Deere
in Waterloo most of his life as a carpenter and was a painter for
Parks Construction in Hampton. His hobby was fixing and tinkering
with bicycles and other gadgets.
He is survived by a two daughters, Catherine Waugh of Emmetsburg and
Elizabeth Bell of Graettinger; a stepdaughter, Rita Stimac of Manly;
a son, Edward Bohnsack of Fort Dodge; a sister, Delores Chadwick of
Frederica, Delaware; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and two brothers.

Ruby Lee

Ruby E. Lee, 95, of Iowa Falls, formerly of Eldora, died on
Thursday, November 8, 2001, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa
Falls.
Services were held on Monday, November 12, at
the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in
Eldora, with burial in the Eastlawn Memory Garden in Eldora. Pastor Anne
Lippencott of the First United Methodist Church officiated.
Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in
Eldora.
Ruby was born on December 3, 1905 in Moulton, to Daniel and Malinda Burns
Robbins. She graduated from the Lovilla High School in 1924. On September
21, 1925, she married Ernest Lee in Osceola. They moved six times
between 1925-42, finally settling in Eldora. In 1972, they moved to
St. Joseph, Missouri and in 1979 returned to Steamboat Rock. She lived at
Polk City Manor for five years before moving to the Heritage Care Center
in 1995.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in
Eldora, enjoyed playing the organ, cooking, sewing and working with
flowers.
She is survived by her son, Richard and wife, Mary of Tucson,
Arizona; three daughters, Joan Grandanette of Des Moines, Joy Larson
and husband, Russell of Palmdale, California and Judy Manship and
husband, Tom of Iowa Falls; 14 grandchildren; 17
great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernie; four sisters
and two brothers.

Everett Kantak

Everett E. Kantak, 68, of Ackley, formerly of Eldora, died of
cancer on Saturday, November 10, 2001, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in
Iowa Falls, while under the care of the North Iowa Hospice in Mason City.
Services were held on Tuesday, November 13, at
the St. Paul Lutheran Church in
Eldora, with burial in the Eastlawn Memory Garden in Eldora. Pastor David
Splett officiated. Memorials may be directed to Hospice.
Everett was born on November 14, 1932 in Castana, to Albert and Aninia
Nelson Kantak. He was raised in the Ellsworth area and on February 5,
1952, he married Darlene Maisel. He worked as a farm hand for
several years before moving to Eldora where he was employed by the
State Training School for Boys for 13 years and then for the Lawn
Hill COOP Elevator. He retired in 1995 and in July of 2001 he moved
to Ackley. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; a daughter, Joyce Jackson and
husband, Gary of Marshalltown; a son, Ron of Eldora; two sisters,
Helen Megan of Ellsworth and Irene Allen and husband, Allan of
Knoxville, Illinois; three grandchildren, Christine and Keith Jackson
and Adam Kantak; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; a brother, LaVerne; a sister-in-law, Jennie;
and two nephews.

Glenita C. Pryor, 90, of Iowa Falls, died
on Saturday, November
10, 2001, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.
Funeral
services will be held on Wednesday, November 14, at 11:00 a.m., at the First
United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls, with burial in the Berlin
Cemetery, Jackson Township, Hardin County. Rev. Don Preston will
officiate.
Glenita was born on May 25, 1911, at her parents farm home in Jackson
Township, to Charles and Susie Platts Jackson. She graduated from
the Owasa High School in 1928 and was employed as the chief operator for
the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Iowa Falls for several
years. On June 20, 1935, she married Robert D. Pryor at the Little
Brown Church at Nashua. They lived most of their married life in
Decorah, where she owned and operated the Pryor Flower and Gift
Shop. They moved to Iowa Falls and retired here.
Glenita was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Iowa
Falls, the United Methodist Women and the Highland Country Club.
She is survived by a sister, Doris Hoffman of Scenic Manor; a
brother, Gareld Jackson and wife, Betty of Heather Manor, Des
Moines; a sister-in-law, Mae Jackson of Eldora; a special friend,
Donald Ruigh of Scenic Manor; and several nieces and nephews.
She
was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Susie Jackson; her
husband, Robert Pryor in 1991; a brother, Dallas Jackson; and a
brother-in-law, Leonard Hoffman.
The Linn's Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is in charge of

Grace Franklin

Grace Carol Franklin, 100, of Des Moines, formerly of Iowa
Falls, died on Monday, November 19, 2001, at her home in Des
Moines.
Graveside services were held at Crawford Heights
Memory Gardens at Denison, on Wednesday, November 21, 2001. Rev.
Ken McMillen officiated.
Grace was born on October 21, 1901 near Vale, to Wilbur and Anna Slegel
Hawley. She was educated in the Crawford County Community Schools and
received her bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa.
On November 8, 1919, she married William Franklin in Cedar Rapids. They
taught schools in several areas in Iowa and received their master's
degree from the University of Washington. After retiring from
teaching, they moved to Iowa Falls and she opened the Shady Rest Tea
Room, an upscale restaurant specializing in full dinners. Grace
owned and operated the Tea Room for 22 years, retiring in the
mid-1960s.
She enjoyed square dancing, bridge and traveling. She was
a member of the American Association of University Women, Shakespeare
Club of Cedar Rapids, Alpha Literary Society, American Legion
Auxiliary and the Plymouth Church in Des Moines.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Alice Hawley of Vail; four
nephews and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents;
her husband; and three brothers.

Dora Weber

Dora M. Weber, 97, of Eldora, died
on Friday, November 23, 2001, at
the Eldora Nursing and Rehab Center.
Services were held on
Monday, November 26, at the St. John's United Church of Christ in
Ackley, with burial in the Oakwood Cemetery, Ackley. Pastor
Michael Dack officiated.
A memorial fund has been established to the St. John's United Church of
Christ.
Dora was born on February 22, 1904, on a farm in Jackson Township,
northwest of Eldora, to Simon and Caroline Doeringsfeld Granner. She
graduated from the Owasa High School and Ellsworth College in Iowa
Falls. She taught elementary grades at Auburn and Owasa. On August 30,
1936, she married Walter (Rusty) Weber in the Honey Creek Church,
Hardin County. They lived a few years in Iowa Falls and Eldora, and
then moved to a farm near Ackley. Dora joined the St. John's United
Church of Christ in Ackley and remained on the farm until her
husband's death in 1954. The following year she moved to Eldora and
taught school in Steamboat Rock for 14 years, retiring in 1969.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in
death by her parents; her husband, Rusty; a sister, Linda Kadolph;
and a brother, Walter "Doc" Granner.

Jackie Dankel

Jackie F. Dankel, 55, of Iowa Falls, died of heart
failure on Friday, November 23, 2001, at his home.
Following cremation,
memorial services were held on Tuesday, November 27, at the First United
Methodist Church in Eldora, with Pastor Corey Larson officiating.
Walter-Sayer Post No. 182 of the American Legion performed flag
folding ceremonies.
Jackie was born on February 1, 1946 at Carroll, to Lyle and Rhoda Potts Dankel. He graduated from
the Eldora High School and served two years,
1965-67, in the United States Army as a medic. He was wounded in
action, received a Purple Heart and was honorably discharged in 1968
due to his wounds. He resided in Denver, Colorado, where he worked for
the U.S. Post Office as a postal clerk for 32 years. He retired in
May 2001, and moved to Iowa Falls. He was a member of the United
Methodist Church and was a Ford Mustang enthusiast.
Survivors include his mother, Rhoda; four sons, Scott and wife,
Lisa of Aurora, Colorado, Chad and wife, Lisa of Hubbard, Chris and
wife, Dawn of Jewell and Justin and wife, Ami of Temecula,
California; a daughter, Amy of Denver, Colorado; two sisters, Deana Lane
and husband, David of Fort Dodge and Laura Neubauer of Whitten; a
brother, Delmar of Fort Dodge; and 12 grandchildren.
He was
preceded in death by his father and a sister, Mary Lou Crouch.

Louise Christensen

Louise Christensen, 80, of Hampton, died on Saturday, November 24,
2001, at the Franklin General Hospital-Nursing Facility in
Hampton.
Services were held on Tuesday, November 27, at
the
Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, with burial in the
Hampton Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Miller officiated.
Louise was born on January 1, 1921 in Franklin County, to Adoph and
Hedwig Bittner Rother. She attended rural Franklin County Schools
and on October 10, 1943, she married Nels Christensen and they were
later divorced. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a daughter, Lynn Wasser of Sunland, California; two
sisters, Florence Ubben of Hampton and Alice Rother of Sunland,
California; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; two brothers and a sister.

Marlyn Ellison

Marlyn J. Ellison, 63, of Marshalltown, formerly of
this area, died on Saturday, November 24, 2001, at his home.
Services will
be held on Wednesday, November 28, at 2:00 p.m., at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home
in Marshalltown. Rev. Robert Miller of the First United Church of Christ
in Alden, will officiate. Burial will be in the Jackson Township
Cemetery, Owasa. A memorial fund has been established.
Marlyn was born on July 24, 1938 in rural Steamboat Rock, to Gerald
and Frances Snapp Ellison. He was raised on the family farm and
attended school in Owasa. On June 15, 1974, he married Marla Smuck
in the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Marlyn was employed by Swift
and Company and was a member of the United Food and Commercial
Workers Union.
He is survived by his wife, Marla of Marshalltown; a
daughter, Mindy Ellison of Slater; a son, Mathew Ellison of
Marshalltown; a sister, Marilyn Meyeraan and husband, Vernon of
Hubbard; and a brother, Donald Ellison and wife, LaVonne of Owasa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Penny Arlene Thomas, 29, formerly of Iowa Falls and Olympia,
Washington, died on Saturday, November 24, 2001, at the St. Peter's Hospital
in Olympia.
Services were held at Chehalis Chapel of
the Brown
Mortuary in Chehalis, Washington, with burial in the Claquato Cemetery in
Chehalis.
Penny was born on July 29, 1972 in Iowa City, to Clair Jr. and Sharon
White Clay. She was raised in northern Iowa and lived in Clear Lake
for 14 years, where she graduated from high school. She attended
Hamilton Business College and worked at Opportunity Village in Clear
Lake. She lived for a time in Iowa Falls and in 1999 she and her
daughter moved to Olympia. She enjoyed writing poetry, computers,
collecting teddy bears and cross stitching.
She is survived by her daughter, Shelby of Olympia; her mother,
Sharon Clay of Centralia, Washington; her father, Clair Clay Jr. of
Charles City; a sister, Sheryl Pratt of Olympia; and a brother,
David Clay of Garner; and three nieces and two nephews.

Merna was born on July 28, 1914 in Robertson, to Herman and Mazie
Bowers Richtsmeier and attended elementary school in Robertson and
high school in Iowa Falls. On August 15, 1932, she married Maynard Ites
at Galena, Illinois and they farmed in the Iowa Falls area. She
was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing Bingo and
playing the piano.
She is survived by a daughter, Gladys (Tootie) Swift of Iowa Falls;
a son, Gary Ites of Gravois Mills, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; and many
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three sisters,
Vera Claude, Jean Chaney and Marion Johnson, all of Hampton; and two
brothers, Carl and Virgil Richtsmeier, both of Hampton.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant sister; two
sons, Floyd and Harold; and an infant great-great-granddaughter.
The Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls, is in charge of
the arrangements.

Miriam Strothcamp

Miriam Harriet Strothcamp, 98, of Radcliffe, died on
Sunday, November 25, 2001, at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.
Services will be held on Wednesday, November 28, at 10:30 a.m., at the Faith
Evangelical Church in Radcliffe, with burial in the Radcliffe
Cemetery. Rev. Robert Bressert and Rev. Harry Imlay will officiate.
Miriam was born on June 21, 1903 in Groveland, Illinois, to Silas and
Elizabeth Strickfaden Hake. She came to Iowa with her parents at age
10 and the family settled in Sherman Township near Radcliffe. She
graduated from the Radcliffe High School in 1921 and was employed at Bulland's General Store in Radcliffe for seven years. In 1928, she
married Adolph Strothcamp in a double ceremony with her sister,
Gertrude and husband, Lloyd Rasmussen. They owned the Sherman
Mercantile, a general store and John Deere dealership for 26 years.
In 1954 they purchased a farm and farmed until her husband's death
in 1964. Miriam moved to Radcliffe in 1969 and worked at Bethany
Manor in Story City. She moved to Iowa Falls in 1992 and became a
resident of at the Heritage Care Center.
She is survived by a son, Merle and wife, Judy of Ankeny; two
grandchildren, Jeff Strothkamp and wife, Kris of Ankeny and Janeen
Earwood and husband, Bill of Indianapolis, Indiana; five
great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gertrude Rasmussen of Iowa Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three
brothers.
The Boeke Funeral Home of Hubbard, is in charge of
the arrangements.

Diana Langhammer

Diana Langhammer, 62, of Iowa City, died on Monday, November 26,
2001, at the Iowa City Hospitals of natural causes.
Funeral services
were held on Tuesday, November 27, with the Lensing Funeral Home of Iowa City in
charge of cremation arrangements.
Diana was born on October 2, 1940, to Gordon and Kathleen Davis
Trowbridge, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She attended school in Pittsburgh and
moved to Iowa Falls in 1993. In 1967, Diana married Rainer Langhammer
in San Francisco, California. He was in the Air Force and they moved to
many different bases. He is retired and currently works at Porter's
on Main. She worked as a sales clerk in stores for a few years. She
was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Rainer; two daughters, Elizabeth
Ladley and her husband, Lee of Lakeside, California and Katherine
Pickering and her husband, Daniel of Rawlings, Wyoming; nine
grandchildren; three brothers, Scott, David and Richard Trowbridge;
and two sisters, Kathy and Anne.
Preceding her in death were her
parents and grandparents.

Robert Tracy

Robert L. "Bob" Tracy, of Chandler, Arizona, formerly of Iowa
Falls, died on Thursday, November 29, 2001, at his home.
A memorial
service was held on Friday, December 7, at the United Church of
Sun Lakes in Chandler. Memorials may be directed to the Hospice
of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower, Phoenix, Ariz., 85014.
Bob was born on January 14, 1923 in Iowa Falls, to Ernest and Lela Tracy.
He graduated from the Iowa Falls High School in 1940 and obtained a
degree in engineering. He served in the United States Air Force in
World War II as a flight engineer and married Bettie Storey,
formerly of Iowa Falls, in 1946. They spent most of their life in
Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Following his retirement from
Westinghouse Electric after 30 years, they settled in Hot Springs,
Arkansas and in
1992 they moved to Chandler.
He was a past president of the
Association of Consulting Engineers and was active in the United
Church of Christ in Sioux Falls and Sun Lakes, the Kiwanis and Elks
clubs.
He is survived by a son, Michael of Coral Spring, Florida; a grandson,
Matthew Tracy of Augusta, Georgia; and a daughter-in-law, Laurie Bruner of
Alpharetta, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife in
1995.

Hazel Steffen

Hazel M. Steffen, 95, of Ackley, died
on Friday, November 30, 2001,
at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley.
Services were held on
Monday, December 3, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ackley,
with burial in the church cemetery. Father Jim Miller
officiated. The Sietsema Funeral Home of Ackley, was in charge of
the arrangements.
Hazel was born on May 23, 1906 at Ackley, to William and Catherine
Carroll Lamm. She graduated from the Ackley High School in 1924 and
received her teaching degree from Iowa State Teachers College in
Cedar Falls. She taught in area country schools and on October 15,
1927, she married Virgil Steffen at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Ackley.
She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and
the St.
Mary's Altar Society. She went to live at the Presbyterian Village in
1996.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary Hofmann of Ackley and Dorothea Woll of La Mesa, California;
and 10 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in
death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Gwen Gilbert and
her husband, Bill.

Lyle Fank

Lyle Albert Fank, 87, of Mason City, formerly of Iowa
Falls, died on Friday, November 30, 2001, at the U.S.A. Health Center in Mason
City, of heart failure.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held
on
Wednesday, December 5, at the St. Mark's Catholic Church in Iowa Falls, with
burial in the St. Mark's Catholic Cemetery in Iowa Falls. Father Jim Dubert will officiate.
Lyle was born on August 16, 1914 at Britt, to John and Lula Mae Brown Fank. He attended Britt country school and on October 1, 1941, he
married Clarice Foss in Forest City. They farmed in the Iowa Falls
area and he was also employed by Concrete Products and Boyt
Manufacturing, both in Iowa Falls. Lyle moved to the Mason City
nursing home in 1998 after living in the Iowa Falls area over 50
years. He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Iowa Falls.
He is survived by his wife, Clarice of
Mason City; a daughter, Cathy Fank of Superior, Wisconsin; a
daughter-in-law, Linda Fank of Iowa Falls; two grandchildren,
Brenda Fank of Springfield, Missouri and Brian Fank of Iowa Falls; and
one sister, Louise Wedeking of Clear Lake.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; two sons, Carroll Fank and Clairence Fank; seven
brothers, Leo (his twin), John, Balltis, Joseph, Raymond and Carl;
and four sisters, Flora Slagle, Josephine Woodard, Mattie Smith and
Elizabeth Fank.
The Linn's Funeral Home of Iowa Falls, is in charge of
the arrangements.
