Genevieve C. Frisby

Genevieve C. Frisby, 78, of Iowa Falls, passed away on Friday, August 3, 2001, at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, Iowa Falls.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 18, at the Iowa Falls Rugby Field. The family  requests no flowers and memorials may be made to the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital Foundation, Iowa Falls. Iowa. The Linn's Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, is handling the arrangements.

Genevieve C. Frisby, was born on November 29, 1922 at Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Rayce A. " Durrant " Anderson. She attended the Hampton Community Schools. She had been married to Loren C. Hackley and they were later divorced and she was then married to Frank P. Frisby who passed away in 1981. She had been employed as a technical writer at Rockwell International, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, from 1972 until retirement.

Genevieve C. Frisby is survived by two daughters, Linda K. Gehrke of Iowa Falls and Nancy L. Brown of Nipomo, California; one son, L. Bruce Hackley of St. Simons Island, Georgia; three step-daughters, Cherie Jacques of Iowa City, Iowa, Nancy Knight of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Bobbie Forsythe; one step-son, Frank Frisby of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one sister, Avon Ellingson of Iowa Falls; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Frisby; her parents, Arthur and Rayce Anderson; and two sisters, Arlouine Kappel and Valois Griffin.

Raymond J. Hartkopp
October 12, 1918-August 3, 2001

Raymond J. Hartkopp, 82, of Aurora, Illinois, died on Friday, August 3, 2001, at his home.

Services were held on Monday, August 6, at the St. Therese Church with burial in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Aurora.

Raymond was born on October 12, 1918 in Osage, to William A. and Matilda DeGeeter Hartkopp. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church; Luxembourg Club; Knights of Columbus; and the Phoenix Club. He worked at the Aurora Pump Company for 36 years. Raymond enjoyed golfing, camping, woodworking and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; three daughters, Virginia Kramer and husband, Robert of North Aurora, Andrea Ideran and husband, John of Montgomery, Illinois and Lisa Long and husband, Daniel of Sugar Grove, Illinois; four sons, Richard and wife, Patricia of North Aurora, Russell and Ronald, both of Aurora and Robert and wife, Mary of Sugar Grove, Illinois; 23 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert and Merlin Hartkopp; and a sister, Mary Mueting.

Kenneth Remer
January 19, 1932-August 6, 2001

Kenneth Alan Remer, 69, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, formerly of Ackley, died on Monday, August 6, 2001, at his home.

Services were held on Tuesday, August 14, at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church at Colfax, with burial in the church cemetery.

Kenneth was born on January 19, 1932 in Davenport, to Arthur and Lillian Trendel Remer. On June 21, 1957, he married Jean DeNeui at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland. She died on May 12, 1979 in Waterloo. He served as pastor of the West Friesland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley, for many years and moved to Waxhaw, where he was director of public relations at JAARS.

He is survived by a son, Timothy and wife, Pamala of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; a daughter, Beth McCracken and husband, Sheldon of Chesapeake, Virginia; four grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn Paulsen and husband, Robert of DeWitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

James E. Rowan
December 16, 1911-August 10, 2001

James E. Rowan, 89, of Eldora, died on Friday, August 10, 2001, at the Marshalltown Medical Center in Marshalltown.

Private graveside services were held on Tuesday, August 14, at the Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Pastor Corey Larson officiated.

James was born on December 16, 1911 in Union, to Clyde and Josephine Lockhard Rowen. He graduated from the Union High School and served in the United States Navy in 1942-45. He spent his adult life in Eldora and married Ann Nichols who died in 1970. On August 9, 1975, he married Juanita McDowell in Cedar Rapids. He worked as a carpenter for the Iowa State Training School from 1960-78.

James was a member of the Walter-Sayer Post No. 182 of the American Legion; the Community Church of Union; and attended the Congregational United Church of Christ in Eldora.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita; three daughters, Mellissa Eller and husband, Allen, Nan Crosser and husband, Gary, all of Eldora and Nancy Higgason and husband, Max of Chariton; a son, John McDowell and wife, Linda of Green Bay, Wisconsin; a sister, Doris Chamnes of Grundy Center; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ann; and two brothers, Roy and Howard.

Calvin Neymeyer
February 3, 1940-August 10, 2001

Calvin Keith Neymeyer, 61, of Eldora, died of cancer on Friday, August 10, 2001, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Graveside services were held on Monday, August 13, at the Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora. Pastor Anne Lippencott officiated.

Calvin was born on February 3, 1940 in Hampton, to Burt and Anna Betten Neymeyer. He attended school at Union and on September 7, 1973, he married Barbara Trout in Eldora. Calvin worked for Marshalltown Instruments for 19 years and later at Gast Plumbing and Heating and Eldora Plastics.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eldora and the Hardin County Historical Society.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; three brothers, John Neymeyer and wife, Mary of Faribault, Minnesota, Paul Neymeyer and wife, Judy of Eldora and Joseph Neymeyer and wife, Margery of Aplington; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Angalyn Harms; and three brothers, Milton, Charles and Robert Neymeyer.

Mary Smith
December 31, 1907-August 12, 2001

Mary Smith, 93, of Parkersburg, died on Sunday, August 12, 2001, at her daughter's home in Clear Lake.

Services will be held on Wednesday, August 15, at 1:00 p.m., at the Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington, with burial in the Maynes Grove Cemetery, rural Bradford. Robert Orr will officiate.

Mary was born on December 31, 1907 in Franklin County, to George and Ella Meyer Meyer. She was educated in Franklin County. She was married to Henry Van Ellen and Henry Meinders, who both preceded her in death. Mary later married James Smith. She spent most of her life on the family farm raising her children.

She is survived by her husband, James Smith of Parkersburg; three daughters, Harriet Finer and husband, Eldon of Clear Lake, Jean Brown and husband, Robert of Forest Ontario, Canada and Judy Meyst and husband, Charles of Southfield, Michigan; two sons, Lloyd Van Ellen of Waverly and Robert Meinders and wife, Nancy of Aplington; two stepchildren, Elmer Smith and wife, Anna of Tampa, Florida and Kenneth Smith and wife, Donnis of Cedar Falls; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Minnie Meyer of St. Paul, Minnesota, Lena Swieter of Iowa Falls and Pearl Neilsen and husband, Thomas of Royal Oak, Michigan; two brothers, Harm Meyer and wife, Maxine and A. J. Meyer and wife, Helen, all of Iowa Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Henry Van Ellen and Henry Meinders; an infant son; two sisters; four brothers and an infant brother; and an infant great-granddaughter.

Memorials may be directed to the Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City.

Winola Prull
July 30, 1916-August 12, 2001

Winola Margaret Prull, 85, of Iowa Falls, died on Sunday, August 12, 2001, at the Franklin General Nursing Facility in Hampton.

Services will be held on Thursday, August 16, at the United Methodist Church in Geneva, with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ackley. Rev. Jerry Hoff will officiate. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 15, from 4-7:00 p.m., at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley.

Winola was born on July 30, 1916 in Wentworth, Wisconsin, to John and Ethel LeValley Wagner. She graduated from the Geneva High School in 1934 and from Ellsworth College and Iowa State Normal School. She taught in one-room rural schools. On May 25, 1938, she married Clifford Prull at the United Methodist Church in Ackley. She was an accomplished musician playing a variety of instruments including the organ and the harp and she had composed over 20 songs.

Winola raised orchids, enjoyed gardening, ceramics, genealogy and wrote poetry. She was a church organist for over 30 years, was choir director and taught Sunday School at the Geneva Methodist Church. She helped organize the Geneva Women's Club and was a past president of the United Methodist Women of the church.

She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Abbas and husband, Lyle of Clear Lake, Gloria Burkle and husband, Stan of Nashua and Aleyna Davisson and husband, Larry of DeSota; a son, Dale Prull and friend, Janice Owen of San Jose, California; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Wagner of Duluth, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1991; and two brothers, Ted and John Wagner.

Helen Crom
May 2, 1921-August 13, 2001

Helen Mae Crom, 80, of Hampton, died of cancer on Monday, August 13, 2001, at the Sheffield Care Center.

Services will be held on Wednesday, August 15, at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Hampton, with burial in the Hampton Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Miller will officiate.

Helen was born on May 2, 1921 in Hampton, to Henry and Clara Einhaus Fredericks. She graduated from the Hampton High School in 1939 and on July 11, 1943, she married David Crom at Hampton. They farmed north of Hampton until retiring but remained on the farm.

Helen was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church. She was involved in 4-H, the Franklin County Historical Society, Senior Citizens, Hospital Auxiliary and the Good Luck Club.

She is survived by her husband, David; a son, Dennis Crom and wife, Judy of Sheffield; a daughter, Susan Miller and husband, Wayne of Medford, Wisconsin; a sister, Maribel Murphy of Hampton; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lewis Fredericks; a brother-in-law, J.R. "Jack" Murphy; and a son-in-law, Russell Brennan.

Dave Pingel, 47, formerly of Iowa Falls, died on Friday, August 17, 2001, at the St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Pingel was a resident of Monticello.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Monday, August 20, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello. Friends may call from 1-3:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday.
