Larry Dean Best
April 6, 1945-October 4, 2010
GRIMES-Larry
D. Best, 65, of Grimes, formerly of Garner, died Monday,
October 4, 2010, at his home.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Friday at St.
Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Msgr. John Hemann
officiating. Burial will be in St. Boniface Catholic
Cemetery in Garner with military rites by the Garner
Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 P.M., Thursday at the
Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. 4th St., in Garner with a
Scriptural wake service at 7:30 P.M. Visitation will
continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Larry Dean Best, the son of Herman and Vera (Young) Best,
was born April 6, 1945 at Garner. He graduated from
Garner-Hayfield High School in 1962. Larry served his
country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war. Following
his honorable discharge he returned to Garner and worked
with brother, Bob, in construction. On August 29, 1970 he
married Mary Hejlik at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in
Duncan. They lived in Garner where they raised their family
and Larry continued working in the construction industry. In
1996, they moved to Guymon, OK and then in 2000 returned to
Iowa making their home in Grimes where Larry was self
employed as an underground utilities inspector. He enjoyed
spending time with his family, fishing, woodworking, playing
cards and games and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
He was a former member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in
Garner and belonged to the Knights of Columbus in Guymon,
OK. Larry was a lifetime member of the Garner VFW where he
served as past commander.
Larry is survived by his wife, Mary, of Grimes; son, Mike
(Angela) Best and their two sons, Nick and Jacob of
Johnston; daughter, Stacey (Chad) Baker of West Des Moines;
a brother, Dennis Best of Clear Lake; a sister-in-law,
Barbara Best of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers,
Walter and Robert Best.

Donald W. Standley
September 30, 1946-October 6, 2010
GARNER-Donald
W. Standley, 64, of Garner died Wednesday, October 6, 2010,
at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday at St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Garner with Rev. Dale Glawatz
officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 P.M., Sunday at the
Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner and will continue one hour
prior to services at the church. Memorials may be directed
to the Donald Standley Memorial Fund.
Donald Wayne Standley, the son of Donald C. and Bernadine
(Lundy) Standley, was born September 30, 1946 at Mason City.
He attended elementary school in Clear Lake and graduated
from Garner-Hayfield High School in 1966. On April 30, 1971,
he married Lois Kitner at Garner. They lived in Garner where
they raised their two daughters. Don worked at Howie's
Implement, Bekins Van Lines with his brother-in-law, Ray,
Schoneman's Standard Station and did construction work with
Bob and Larry Best. In the fall of 1975 he began working at
the Hancock County Rural Electric Cooperative in Garner
which later became Prairie Energy. He retired from there in
2008 as an I.T. information systems specialist. Upon his
retirement he helped his family in watching the
grandchildren and assisting his daughter and son-in-law in
their towing business. Don enjoyed going to his
grandchildren's sports activities and camping. Don was
especially proud to have achieved twenty-seven years of
sobriety celebrated on his recent birthday.
He was former member and president of the Garner Jaycees.
Don is survived by his wife, Lois, of Garner; two daughters,
Kelsey (Jason) Zasada and their children, Cody, Nathan and
Lucas of Burlington, WI and Kami (Mark) Kaczor and their
children, Annie, Morgan and Jared of Garner; two sisters,
Cindy (Raymond) Koelm of Altamont, IL and Kathy (Keith)
Kimbrough of Mt. Pleasant; his mother-in-law, Emilyn Kitner
of Garner; two aunts, Madelyn Paca of Garner and Aretta Van
Dorin of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces, nephews, great
nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Donnitta
(Bob) Hayungs; brother, James Standley; and father-in-law,
Robert Kitner.

Marvin K. Lackore
May 31, 1927-October 12, 2010
GARNER-Marvin
K. Lackore, 83, of Garner died Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at
his home.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Friday at the
United Methodist Church in Garner with Pastor Tim
Rieckhoff-Faris officiating. Burial will be in Madison
Township Cemetery in Forest City.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M., Thursday at the
Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner and will continue one hour
prior to services at the church.
Marvin Keith Lackore, the son of Harris and Hazel (Pringle)
Lackore, was born May 31, 1927 on a farm near Hayfield. He
graduated from Hayfield Consolidated High School and
continued his education at Upper Iowa University in Fayette.
After college, he returned home to help his family on the
farm. On December 23, 1946 he married Cleola A. Boller at
Wichita, KS. They lived on the home farm near Hayfield where
they raised their five children. In 1977, they moved into
Garner but continued farming until 1986. Beside farming,
Marv was also an entertainer. At the age of fourteen he
joined a musicians union and began performing with various
bands in the area for the next sixty plus years including a
family dance band, L & M Family Affair. In his retirement he
continued to play the keyboard and trumpet for the residents
at Concord Care Center and at special events around town. In
recent years, playing cards down at "The Office" with "The
Boys" was the highlight of his day. He was an avid sports
and Garner-Hayfield Cardinal fan attending many games
throughout the years. Family was very important to Marv. He
enjoyed spending time with his family, his grandchildren,
great-grandchildren and his many friends.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and Garner
Lions Club serving as past president.
Marv is survived by his wife, Cleola, of Garner; four
daughters, Peggy (Leo) Dominguez of Tucson, AZ, Nancy (Rick)
Kaduce of Rockford, Jill (Dennis) Schott of Garner and Sally
(David) Bergman of Britt; a daughter-in-law, Doris (Kurt)
Dallman of Garner; fifteen grandchildren, Lisa (Michael)
Warren, Jody Buzicky, Polly (Armando) Ruiz, Lindsey (Ed)
Madsen, Zachary (Katie) Kaduce, Bree (Brad) Bartlett, Brandy
(Josh) Anderson, Andrew (Ashley) Schott, Matthew (Gina)
Lackore, Kelly (Mitch) Muth, Katie (Chad) Koller, Melissa
(Ryan) Rager, Benjamin Bergman, Willie Bergman and Holly
(Dustin) Cassidy; twenty-two great grandchildren; a
sister-in-law, Peggy Sue Lackore of Clarion; and many nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Harris "Skip"
Lackore, April 14, 1986; sister, Arvilla Larson; and
brother, Charles Lackore.

Ellen Sobek
December 20, 1943-October 18, 2010
GARNER-Ellen
L. Sobek, 66, of Garner died Monday, October 18, 2010, at
her home.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Thursday at the
United Methodist Church in Klemme with Pastor Paddy Druhl
officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery in
Garner. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M., Wednesday
at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner and will continue
one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be
directed to Hospice of North Iowa.
Ellen Louise Sobek, the daughter of John and Reva (Elder)
Waddingham, was born December 20, 1943 at Belmond. She
attended Klemme Public Schools graduating in 1961. Following
high school, she attended beauty school at La'James in Mason
City. On October 22, 1966 she was married to Roger Sobek at
the United Methodist Church in Klemme. They lived in Klemme
and Garner. Ellen operated her own beauty salon and later
worked as a cook at Duncan Heights, Prairie View Apartments
and Garner-Hayfield Community Schools.
She enjoyed bowling,
camping, bingo, golfing and was an avid Elvis Presley fan.
She also loved baking and cooking and was well known for her
pies and potato salad. Ellen was a good friend to many and a
special aunt to Megan, Brooke and Ben. She was a member of
the United Methodist Church in Klemme.
Ellen is survived by her five brothers, Bill (Rosalie)
Waddingham of Garner, Tom (Janice) Waddingham of Thornton,
David (Marie) Waddingham of Garner, Bruce (Cheryl)
Waddingham of Rutherfordton, NC and Ray Waddingham of
Garner; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, May 1,
1998; and her parents.

Anthony "Nick" Knoth
April 3, 1939-October 20, 2010
KLEMME-Anthony
"Nick" Knoth, 71, of Klemme died Wednesday, October 20,
2010, at his home.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to Klemme Congregate Meals or the
Garner Veterans Memorial Recreation Center in care of his
son, Eric Knoth of Clarinda, Iowa.

Walter Rose,
1920-2010
October 27, 2010
Walter
Thomas Rose, 90, of Garner, Iowa, formerly of Crystal Lake,
passed away Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Concord Care Center
in Garner.
A memorial service for
Walter Rose will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010 at
10:30 a.m. at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt with Pastor
Lee Nelson officiating. Inurnment will take place at Crystal
Lake Cemetery in Crystal Lake.
A gathering of family and
friends will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 from 5-7 PM
at Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt and will continue one hour
prior to the service on Wednesday.
Walter was born on Aug.
27, 1920 on his family's farm north of Crystal Lake. He was
the son of Howard and Elizabeth (Ragan) Rose and graduated
from Crystal Lake High School in 1939. He farmed with his
dad until June 1942 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
Walter was stationed in Hawaii for almost two years. While
in the service, he married Marjorie K. Boyken
at Treasure Island Naval Station in San Francisco, Calif.
After the war, they moved to a farm south of Buffalo Center
where Walter farmed until he retired. Their son, Tom, was
born in 1953. In 1984, they moved to Crystal Lake. Walter
lived there until moving to Concord Care Center in November
2009.
Walter enjoyed bowling and
golf his whole life. He never missed a chance to watch his
grandkids participate in school sports and activities.
Walter is survived by his
son, Tom and his wife, Becky (Larson) Rose; two
grandchildren: Danny of Des Moines and Jenny of Garner; his
sisters: Ellen Robbins of Kerrville, Texas, Grace Culhane of
Palatine, Ill. and Nancy (Maury) Buns of Woden;
sisters-in-law: Edith Teig of Titonka, JoAnn Tues of Yuma,
Ariz., Carol (Konrad) Koosmann of Jamestown, N.D, Ardeth
Boyken of Algona and Karen Boyken of Algona; along with many
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his wife, Marjorie; his parents; his sister, Catherine;
and several brothers-in-law.

Irma Hansen, 1916-2010
November 3, 2010
Irma Izola Hansen, 94, of Kanawha, Iowa,
passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at the Kanawha Community
Home in Kanawha.
Funeral services for Irma
Hansen were held Thursday, Oct. 28; at the United Methodist
Church in Kanawha with Pastor Cindy Morrison officiating.
Burial was in the Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.
Ewing Funeral Home of Kanawha was charge of arrangements.
Irma Izola (Schoenwetter)
Hansen was born June 6, 1916, at her parents rural home west
of Klemme. She was the second born of a family of six
children to Ed and Nora (Swanson) Schoenwetter. Her
spiritual life began at Liberty Methodist Church at an early
age, where she was baptized. We recall her telling about
attending Christmas Eve worship arriving in a bobsled.
Later, she was an active member of the United Methodist
Church in Kanawha.
Her schooling began at
country school in Twin Lake Township, later she attended two
of her high school years at Goodell, graduating from Klemme
high school in 1934 during the depression years. She
attended college at Cedar Falls and graduated with a normal
training certificate in teaching and taught at Liberty #8
for two years.
It was in 1937 that she
married her beloved husband, Russel Hansen at her parents'
home. Their union was blessed with four children, Daryl
Dean, Gloria Ann, twins, Rita Louise and Roger Lyle. Her
First born twins, Eugene Russel and Joanne Irma passed away
shortly after their birth in 1938.
Russel
and Irma began their farming years in Twin Lake Township on
a farm owned by Russel's father, Chris Hansen until 1970,
then they moved to their farm in Erin Township. In the early
2000s Irma became a resident of Kanawha and in 2006 a
resident at the Kanawha Community Home.
Irma was a very special
wife, mother, grandma and friend, she loved all of her
family to the end, always giving of herself for them,
showing unequaled love and true devotion. Her many friends
knew her to be a steadfast, loyal and loving friend, she
never complained, but lived her life with a wonderful sense
of humor, always with trust and faith in her God through
hardships and tragedy. She was an expert at so many things,
an accomplished seamstress and quilter, skilled in all kinds
of handiwork, she stained and finished many of Russel's
grandfather clocks and other woodworks, she had a love for
gardening, and especially enjoyed her beautiful gladiolas
and roses, she served the most delicious meals at a laden
table to friends and family, always followed with delectable
desserts. She knew hard work and taught it to her family by
example.
Through the years she gave
of herself teaching Sunday school for many, many years,
working with her children in 4-H, Hancock County Extension
Council, Hancock County Choir, Women's Fellowship and
volunteering at the nursing home reading to the family of
residents there for about 35 years, lending her capable
hands with perfect quilting stitches on quilts at church and
quilts for her family. She loved to read, sing, play the
piano and organ. In her quiet, gentle manner she touched so
many in so many different ways continuing to bless others
with her beautiful smile and polite and respectful demeanor
at the nursing home where she had resided the last four
years.
Irma is survived by her
daughter, Gloria Burk, and her husband Kay of Garner; Roger
and his wife, Joann, of Kanawha, Rita Greiman and her
husband, Terry, of Bloomfield, N.Mex.; and daughter-in-law
Vivien (Daryl) Hansen. of Humboldt; her grandchildren, Jill
Fuller and husband, Paul, and children Noah, and Caleb; Leah
Hill, and husband, Peter, and children; Naomi, Lydia and
Levi; Lisa Woiwood; and husband, Mark, and children, Adam,
Aaron, Annelise and Ashton; Steve Burk, and wife, Julie, and
children Alyssa and Abigail; Dana Burk, and wife, Kathy, and
children Karina, Brayden and Kaylie; Todd Hansen and
children, Brianna and Maxwell; Brian Hansen and wife,
Janelle, and children, Kyren, Alainee, Alex and Amy; Angela
Abbas and husband Jason; Chris Greiman and wile, Tara, and
children, Tristyn and Hayden. Irma is also survived by her
dear sister, Wava Geary, and husband, Elwood;
sisters-in-law, Eunice Schoenwetter, and Marie Schoenwetter;
and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her
parents, Ed and Nora Schoenwetter, husband, Russel, in 1993,
son Daryl in 1997, grandson Brenden Jon Greiman in 1983; her
sister, Velda Cutshall; and brothers Lyle (WWII), Merle and
Wayne Schoenwetter and numerous other family members.
A host of family and
friends will always treasure her memory, her life was an
inspiration and truly valued by those who had the privilege
to know and love her. Heaven's Gate is opened Wide by her
Heavenly Father with a joyous homecoming awaited by those
she loved so dearly.

Cindy VanDusseldorp, 1948-2010

Cindy
VanDusseldorp, 62, of Britt, Iowa passed away Tuesday,
October 26, 2010 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in
Britt
A funeral service for
Cindy VanDusseldorp was held Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at
First Lutheran Church in Britt with Pastor Lee Nelson
officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.
Ewing Funeral Home, Britt was in charge of arrangements.
Cindy, the daughter of
Frank and Verna Mae (Edwards) Meyer, was born Aug. 11, 1948,
in Algona, Iowa. She graduated from Corwith-Wesley High
School in 1966. In the fall of 1964, Cindy met her future
husband, best friend, and soul-mate, Larry VanDusseldorp.
They were united in marriage on April 27, 1968 at St. John's
Lutheran Church in Corwith, Iowa. The couple made their home
in Britt where they raised their three children.
Cindy enjoyed attending
her children's and grandchildren's activities and going on
classic car cruises with Larry in their 1959 Ford. She also
enjoyed having coffee with her girlfriends and reading books
on a variety of topics. Cindy always had a special place in
her heart for stray animals and would give many a home
throughout the years.
Cindy is survived by her
husband of 42 years, Larry VanDusseldorp and children Tammy
(Alan) Abbas of Garner, Misty (Doug) Abbas of Britt, and
Scott (Angie) VanDusseldorp of Garner; 8 grandchildren and 2
great-grandchildren; siblings: Dave (Carlene) Meyer, Melinda
Wickert, Dawn Gray, Sandy (Bruce) Smidt, numerous nieces and
nephews, and mother-in-law Nona VanDusseldorp, sister-in-law
and brother-in-law Gloria and Wally Mayland.
She was preceded in death
by her parents Frank and Verna Mae and father-in-law Melvin
VanDusseldorp and her beloved pets Shadow, Snoopy, and Tuffy.
