Mickey
E. Arnold, 1927-2003
July 16, 2003
Mickey E. Arnold, of rural St. Ansgar, died
on Wednesday, July 9,
2003, in Northwood. He was 76.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 12, 2003, at
the Northwood United Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard Jensen officiated. Burial was in the Warren Township Cemetery at
McCallsburg. The Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home of Northwood was in charge of
the
arrangements.
Mickey Elwin Arnold, was born on May 20, 1927, in Ellston to Leroy and Mary Ann (Clark) Arnold. He graduated from the Grand River
High School in 1944 and attended one year at AIB in Des Moines. He joined
the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. He moved to Nevada where
he farmed.
On August 27, 1950, Mickey Arnold married Geraldine Lura in Nevada. They moved to the Northwood area in 1951 and farmed east of
Northwood.
Mickey was an avid farmer, snowmobiler, boater and
golfer. He enjoyed playing pool while wintering in Texas.
He was a member of the Northwood United Methodist
Church, was past President of the Farm Bureau, a member of the Odd Fellows
and the Northwood Country Club. Mickey enjoyed his grandchildren, going to
their events and being supportive of their activities.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine of Northwood; two
sons, Steve (Kathy) Arnold of Northwood and Brian (Tami) Arnold of Garner; two
daughters, LeaAnn Hauge of Jacksonville, Florida and Sue (Jim) Hale of Pleasant
Hill; one son-in-law, Larry Hauge of Northwood; nine grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
Survivors also include two sisters, Cenith Carlson of
Minneapolis, Minnesota and Berva Mills of Boone.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one
daughter, Linda.

Mary T. Rockwood, 1909-2003
July 16, 2003
Mary T. Rockwood, of Garner, died on Saturday, July 12.
2003, at the Concord Care Center, Garner. She was 94.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m.,
on Wednesday,
July 16, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner, with the Rev. Jerry Blake
officiating. Lector will be Pat Doble. Music will be provided by organist,
Carolyn Kumsher who will accompany the church choir. Ushers will be Robert
Kral and Lawrence Engstler.
Casket bearers will be Daniel Rockwood, Curtis
Rockwood, Larry Schisel, Denny Haefner, Bill Engstler and Dann T. May.
Honorary bearers will be Travis Rockwood, Kaye Holding, Bill Doble, John
Fitch, Joe Schisel and Tom Huinker. Burial will be in the St. Patrick's Catholic
Cemetery, Britt.
Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 p.m.,
on Tuesday, at
the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner, with a Catholic Daughters
of the Americas rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Scriptural Wake Service will follow.
Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on
Wednesday.
Mary Teresa Rockwood, the daughter of Frank and Teresa
(Doughan) Mullin, was born on April 22, 1909 at Hutchins. She graduated from
the
Britt High School in 1925 and Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar
Falls in 1927. She continued her education in teaching at Froebels Primary
Education College in Chicago, Wartburg College, Iowa State University,
University of Iowa and the State College of Iowa.
In 1939, she was married to Harvey Rockwood in Britt.
Mary taught school in Iowa for 40 years in the following communities,
Hutchins, Pocahontas, Clear Lake, Garner and Waterloo. She retired from
teaching in 1975 and moved to Whittemore. In 1990, she moved to the Prairie View
Apartments in Garner.
She was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church in
Garner, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Disabled American Veterans
Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Richard Rockwood of Meridian,
Idaho; ten grandchildren, Daniel Rockwood and his wife, Sharon and their two
children, Cassie and Tiffany, of Menomonee, Wisconsin, Catherine Hilbert and
her husband, Guy and their children, Callie and Dana, of Barron, Wisconsin,
Christine Silva and her husband, Henry and their three children, Mariah,
Polo and Christopher, of Deltona, Florida, Curtis Rockwood and his wife,
Marie and their four children, Samantha, Megan, Owen and Erin, of Boise,
Idaho, Jennifer Schofield and her husband, Edward and their children,
Taylor and Jacob, of Chetek, Wisconsin, Travis Rockwood of Boise, Melodee
Hoffner and her husband, Todd and their daughter, Kiaya, of Eau Claire,
Wisconsin, Elizabeth Rockwood and her son, Devon of Orlando, Florida, Sarah
Rockwood of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Melinda Rockwood of Stevens Point,
Wisconsin.
Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Coletta Mullin of
Whittemore; two nieces, Linda Schisel and her husband, Larry of Garner and
Judy Haefner and her husband, Denny of Cedar Rapids; and several other
nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey in
1984; her son, Robert Rockwood in November of 1998; her
parents; two sisters; and four brothers.

Claire H. Hovey, 1942-2003
July 30, 2003
Former Wesley resident, Claire H. Hovey, of Algona, died
on Sunday, July 20, 2003, at the Good Samaritan Center, following a long battle with
cancer. He was 61.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 24, at
the
Hillcrest Baptist Church, Algona. The Rev. Dave Heisterkamp officiated.
Organist, Helena Dodds accompanied soloists, Chad Schneider and Deb
Limbaugh.
Interment was in the East Lawn Cemetery, Algona. The
Rev. Chris Humburg officiated at the burial service. The
Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home of Algona was in charge of the
arrangements.
Casket bearers were Greg Zaugg, Brandon Stebbins,
Michael Huck, Chad Schneider, Josh Aanonson, David Witt and Brett Darling.
Honorary bearers were Angi Humburg, Ainee Huck, Cassee Kirschbaum, Alissa
Stebbins, Michelle Schneider, Kairee Witt and Shirelle Aanonson.
Claire Harold Hovey, was born on February 4, 1942 at
Pocahontas. He was the son of Harold Elsworth and Edna Mae (Johnson) Hovey.
As a young boy, he moved with his parents to Wesley. Claire graduated from
the
Titonka High School. After his education, he worked as a farm hand for
neighbors in the Wesley area. In the early 1960s he moved to Algona where he
was employed by Snap-On
On June 14, 1964, Clare H. Hovey married Sarah Nell
(Phillips) Stebbins at Sutherland. The couple resided in Algona where Clare
continued to work at Snap-On until 1967. He worked for a time at Lindsay
Soft Water and Schumacher Electric. In 1970 he was employed by Algona
Municipal Utilities until 2000, when he retired due to failing health.
Mr. Hovey was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church
of Algona. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and gardening. His greatest love
in life was his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Hovey of Algona; his
children, Alice Zaugg and husband, James of Algona, Carol Hauptmann and
husband, Robert of Audubon, James Stebbins and wife, Marcia of Algona and
Gina Darling and husband, Russell of Madison, Wisconsin; 10 grandchildren;
and 12 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are his brothers and sisters, DeWayne
Hovey and his wife, Helen of Algona, Marlene Haack and husband, Dave of
Bancroft, Darwin Hovey and wife, Carol of New Hampton, Larry Hovey and
wife, Deborah of Garner and Karlene Steenhard and husband, Craig of
Corwith.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
