Josephine Gladys Martinson, 67, of Lake Mills, died on Sunday, June 1, 2003, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 5, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. The Rev. Kevin Mackey officiated. Burial was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Lake Mills, with the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills in charge of the arrangements.

Alvina Ruth Sellers, 87

June 11, 2003

Alvina Ruth Sellers, 87, of Clarion, died on Sunday, June 1, 2003.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 5, at the First Lutheran Church in Clarion. The Rev. Gary Boen officiated. Gary Brandt and Dave Dahlgren sang "Beautiful Savior" and Gene and Anna Tesdahl sang "Nearer My God To Thee." Organist was Gary Brandt. Ushers were Ralph Borel and Maurice Riley.

Casket bearers were Jason Sellers, Jay Sellers, Bill Maxon, Bob Deimerly, Gene Tesdahl and Jerry Blackman. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion, with the Willim Funeral Chapel in Clarion in charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Sandra Sellers Hanson of New York City; son and daughter-in-law, James and Joan Sellers of Clarion; grandsons, Jason Sellers of Scottsdale, Arizona and Jay Sellers of Bloomington, Minnesota; sister, Dr. Mim Ballou and husband, Phil of Marco Island, Florida; brother, Rich Tesdahl and wife, Elaine of Clarion; as well as many nephews and nieces.

Gregory Scott Barloon, 39

June 18, 2003

Gregory Scott Barloon, 39, of Eldon, Missouri and formerly of Forest City, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2003, at his home after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 9, at the Grace Episcopal Church, Jefferson City, Missouri.

Gregory is survived by his two children, Brandon and Brittnae Barloon; father, Chuck and Hazel Barloon of Forest City; mother, Marge and Charlie Wright of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas; two brothers, David and Kathleen Barloon and boys of Mason City and Jeff Barloon of Forest City; one sister, Brenda and Alan Smith and boys of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Clarence O. Torkelson, 68, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at his home. 

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 6, at the Assemblies of God Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Lee Freshour officiated. Burial was in the Ellington Township Cemetery, Forest City. The Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home in Albert Lea was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Janice of Albert Lea; children, Kevin Torkelson and wife, Lori and their children, Bailey, Mitch and Cade of Ottumwa, Wendy Torkelson of Minneapolis, Kristen and husband, Kevin Oldenkamp and their children, Kelsey and Kassidy of Clarks Grove, Minnesota and Renee and husband, Rod Batzlaff and their children, Cassie and Caitlin of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota; mother, Othelia of Forest City; brothers and sisters, Margie Sogard, Bernice Voelker, Carroll Torkelson, Ronald Torkelson and his wife, Lucille, Leslie Torkelson and his wife, Paulette, Roger Torkelson, Wayne Torkelson and Marsha and her husband, Mark Brunsvold; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alice Bernau, 77, of Emmons, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at the St. John's Lutheran Home in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 7, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville. The Rev. Randy Baldwin officiated. Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Scarville, with the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills in charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by four sons, Marvin and his wife, Susan of Emmons and their children Matt and his fiancée, Megan Buss of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Rachel and her husband, Tyler Ehlers and Lindsey of Emmons; Merrill and his wife, Debi of Emmons and their children, Andy of Emmons, Tracy and her husband, Jeff Honsey and their children, Michelle and Amanda of Medford, Minnesota; Martin and his wife, Julie of Emmons and their children, Nick of Clarks Grove, Minnesota and Emily and her fiancée, Jason Hillman; Mark and his wife, Cindy of Madison, Wisconsin and son, Mark; her brother, Eugene Wagner and his wife, Jean of West Bend; her sisters, Marjorie Kajewski and her husband, Kenny of Whittemore and Irene Freilinger of Humboldt; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Raymond F. Young, 74, of Garner, died on Saturday, June 7, 2003, at the Concord Care Center in Garner.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 9, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner. The Rev. Michael Schueller officiated.

He is survived by his wife, LoEtta of Garner; three children, Marcia Faulken and her husband, Bruce of St. Paul, Minnesota, Steven Young and his wife, Renee of Oakland, California and Janel Lau and her husband, Robert of Klemme; seven grandchildren, Matthew Faulken and his wife, Nicole, Keith and Alex Faulken, Elizabeth and Stefanie Young and Jacquelyn and Teressa Lau; six brothers and a sister, Anthony Young and his wife, Mary of Garner, Mary Ann Stupka of Garner, Robert Young and his wife, Mildred of Garner, Francis Young of Garner, Elmer Young of Garner, Carl Young and his wife, Dianne of Garner and Richard Young and his wife, Sandy of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.

Thelma A. Kloster, 84, formerly of Lake Mills, died on Saturday, June 7, 2003, at the Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 13, at the Winnebago Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills. The Rev. Bill Peters will officiate. Burial will be in the Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home and again one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.

Wayne E. Hollatz, 84, of Ventura, died on Sunday, June 8, 2003, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, June 12, at the St. John's Lutheran Church northeast of Garner. The Reverends Carl Hedberg and Scott Kozisek will officiate.

Wayne is survived by a brother, August "Tom" Hollatz and his wife, Barbara of Clear Lake; a sister-in-law, Doris Luscomb of Clear Lake; several nieces and nephews; many cousins and other relatives; and many friends.

Eva A. Kingland, 86, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, June 10, 2003, in St. Anthony, Minnesota.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 14, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City. The Rev. Lee Laaveg officiated. Burial was in the Elim Cemetery in rural Fertile.

Eva is survived by two brothers, Oral Kingland and his wife, Alice of Forest City and Quinten Kingland and his wife, LuVerna of Longmont, Colorado; two sisters, Rachel Holland of Mason City and Emilie Conklin and her husband, Allan of New Brighton, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Alice Kingland of Forest City; and several nieces and nephews.

Clarence O. Hansen, 89, of Forest City, died on Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 13, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. The Rev. Lee Laaveg officiated. Burial was on Saturday in the Platte City Cemetery in Platte, South Dakota. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City was in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ilah; two children, Ken (Joan) Hansen of Forest City and Verla (Ron) Kamykowski of Stickney, Illinois; five grandchildren, Glenn (Crystal) Kamykowski, Kristi (Jim) Teolis, Susan (Greg) Geitzenauer, Kevin (Jaime) Hansen and Annette Hansen; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Clifford "Cliff" T. Fjetland, 84, of Woden, formerly of Forest City, died on Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the Titonka Care Center.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 13, at the Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church in Titonka. The Rev. Theodore Gullixson officiated. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Forest City, with military rites conducted by the Forest City American Legion Post 121. The Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City was in charge of the arrangements.

Cliff is survived by his family, Collin and Carmen Fjetland of Woden, Virginia and Dennis Loux of Clear Lake, Lon and Roxann Fjetland of Clear Lake, Jay Fjetland of Clear Lake; daughter-in-law, Cindy (Fjetland) Balvanz of Forest City; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and a host of friends.

Charlotte Anderson, 81, of Forest City, died on Friday, June 13, 2003, in Rochester, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., today Wednesday, June 18, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. The Rev. Lee Laaveg will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. Memorials may be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or to Waldorf College.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; sons, Steven of Los Angeles, California and Rolf and his wife, Anne of Forest City; her brother, Henry Moen of Inwood; her sisters, June Katt of Humboldt, Mary Anderson of Akron and Norma Jane Hanson of Inwood; in addition to grandchildren, Bergen, Sarri, Liv and Geir Anderson.

Thora G. Boman, 94, of Forest City, died on Friday, June 13, 2003, at the Muse Norris Hospice in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 17, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City. Rev. Gary Marzolf, Pastor of the Forest City United Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.

She is survived by her niece, Karen Carlson and husband, Keith of Bellevue, Nebraska; two great-nephews and a great-niece.

Evelyn Jean (Anderson) Hanson, 77, of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, died on Saturday, June 14, 2003, at the Pillars Hospice Care Center in Oakdale, Minnesota.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 19, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in White Bear Lake. The Rev. Eldon DeWeerth officiated. Burial was in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Survivors include Hazel (Anderson) Palmer and husband, Donald of Forest City, Marvin D. Anderson and wife, Dorothy of Forest City, Marilyn (Anderson) Sogard and husband, Roger of Ames, Arden L. Anderson and wife, Eva Mae (Brown) Anderson of Berwick and Nancy (Anderson) Johnson and husband, Kenneth of Plymouth, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Ruth (Jefson) Anderson of Forest City; and many nieces and nephews.

John S. Fishel, 69, died on Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 23, at the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake. The Rev. Jan Burnett officiated. Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Clear Lake VFW. The Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

John is survived by three children, Randy Fishel of Clear Lake, Rick Fishel and his wife, Sherri of Mason City and Wanda Folkerts and her husband, Larry of Crystal Lake; five grandchildren, Eric Fishel, Travis Folkerts, Ryan Fishel, Megan Fishel and Tracie Folkerts; three brothers, Gary Fishel of New Hampton, Rex Fishel of Cedar Rapids and Craig Fishel of Manchester; one sister, Karen Shaffer of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and special friend, Sharon Koehler of Charles City.

Guy A. Olson, 75 of Northwood, died on Friday, June 20, 2003, at the Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 23, at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church. The Reverends David Grindberg and Carroll Lang officiated. Burial was in the North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge, with the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home in Fort Dodge in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Church of the Damascus Road, Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Janice; two sons, Larry of Van Horn and Tony of Hawaii; three step-daughters, Shelley Robson and her husband, Dan of Forest City, Lisa Irving and her husband, Matt of North Liberty and Anjanette Goetz and her husband, Bill of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; step-mother, Evelyn Olson of McHenry, Illinois; and mother-in-law, Alice Olson of Northwood.

Anette is survived by her three children, daughter, Ruth and her husband, Richard Hare of Atkins and their children, Joseph Hare and his wife, Kim and their family of San Antonio, Texas; son, Wayne Johnson and special friend, Susan Daufeldt of West Liberty and his children, Dallas Johnson and his wife, Lisa of Tuscan, Arizona and their three children, Taryn, Kade and Tori; Bruce Johnson and his wife, Christine of Austin, Texas and their daughter, Avery; Lance Johnson and his wife, Annette of Roanoke, Virginia and their son, Colby; daughter, Bev and her husband, Fred Graves of Van Meter; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Laurence W. Kroeze, 82, died on Thursday, June 26, 2003 at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 30, at the First Reformed Church, Buffalo Center, with Pastor Bill Peake officiating. Organist, Marlene Krull accompanied soloist, Tony Hooper and congregation hymns.

He is survived by his children, Sandra and her husband, David DeVries of Joice, Sharon and her husband, Lyle Hippen of Buffalo Center, Sarah and her husband, Robert Engebretson of Clear Lake, Stephen and his wife, Gloria of Norwalk and Susan and her husband, Randy Smith of Lake Mills; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Gladys Kroeze; brother, Frank Kroeze and his wife, Pearl; sister, Nadine and her husband, Don Welk; sister-in-law, Vera Johnson; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Paul is survived by his wife, Joyce; his two daughters and their families, Paula Petersburg and her husband, Fred of Clear Lake and their children, Cole and Lara and Inga Nelson and her husband, Mike of Forest City and their children, Metta, Britta and August; two brothers and one sister and their spouses, Don and Norma Larson of Adams, Minnesota, Willard and Ardys Larson of Woodbury, Minnesota and Ruth and Bill Dohrn of Loveland, Colorado; and nieces and nephews.
