FOREST CITY-Vernon E. Strand, 74, of Forest City,
died on Saturday, December 1, 2001, at the Muse Norris
Hospice in Mason City.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, December 4, at the Our Saviors Lutheran Church in
Leland. The Rev.
Clarence Baalson officiated. Burial was in the Forest Home Cemetery in
Leland, with the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three children and their spouses, Danny and
Carolyn Strand of Champaign, Illinois, Louaine and Loren Jordahl of
Forest City and Steven and Wendy Strand of Forest City; seven
grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

LAKE MILLS-Wayne W. Woelfel, 71,
of Lake Mills, died on Sunday, December 2, 2001, at the Mercy
Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be
held at 10:30 a.m., today, Wednesday, December 5, at the St.
Patrick's Catholic Church in Lake Mills. Father Craig Steimel will
officiate. Burial will be in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, rural
Lake Mills, with military rites performed by the Lake Mills Otto/Chose
Post 235.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Lake Mills; one
son, Jeff Woelfel of Austin, Minnesota and his two children,
Brittany and Blake; two daughters, Jamie Goldstone of
Brooklyn Center, Minnesota
and her husband, Eric and their children, Sabriya, Quinn and Ross
and
Jodi Ball of Mason City and her husband, Scott and their children,
Elizabeth, Benjamin and Noah; and one sister, Margaret of Wabasso, Minnesota.

KIESTER, MN-Mildred Lucille Penning, 77,
of Kiester, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, December 5, 2001, at her
home of natural causes.
Funeral services were held
on Monday, December 10, at the Grace United
Methodist Church in Kiester. The Rev. Fayetta Maki officiated. Burial was in
the Fairview
Cemetery, rural Kiester, with the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells,
Minnesota, in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her four
sons, Darrell Penning and his wife, Elizabeth of Prior Lake,
Minnesota, Ron Penning and his wife, Sherry of Scarville, Duane
Penning and his wife, Linda of Wells and Bruce Penning and his
wife, Diane of Kiester; 11 grandchildren, Francisco Penning and
his wife, Heather of Houston, Texas, Carlos Penning and his wife,
Regan of Guatemala, Aaron Penning of San Diego, California, Jeff
Penning of Clear Lake, Amanda Penning of Wells, Minnesota, Sandra
Penning of St. Paul, Minnesota, Brandon Penning of Austin, Minnesota, Anna
Penning of Wells, Minnesota, Brett and Trevor Penning of Alden, Minnesota
and Andrew Penning of Wells, Minnesota; one great-granddaughter,
Alicia Penning of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Rodger Bruns of
Fertile and Merlin Bruns and his wife, Leone of Fort Dodge; one
sister, Myrna Christoffer of Fort Dodge; five sisters-in-law,
Elsie Bruns, Dorothy Bruns, Elaine Bruns, Dorothy Penning and
Amelia Graves; two brothers-in-law, Robert Penning and Richard
Beenken; along with many nieces and nephews.

FOREST CITY-Marjorie L. Gorball, 88, of
Forest City, died on Wednesday, December 5, 2001.
Funeral services were held
on Saturday, December 8, at the Forest City United
Methodist Church. The Rev. Gary Marzolf officiated. Dean
Timm served as soloist and Bonnie Peterson was organist. Casket
bearers were Randolph Timm, Richard Timm, Joshua Gibson, Jeffrey
Gorball, Michael Gorball and Brandon MacDougall. Burial was in the
Oakland Cemetery, Forest City, with the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in
charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two children and their spouses, Richard
Gorball and wife, Mary Ann of Newton and Marion Timm and husband,
Dean of Boone; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four
great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Swain of Butler,
Missouri.

Florence M. Weiland, 85
December 12, 2001
BRITT-Florence M. Weiland, 85, of Britt, died
on Thursday, December
6, 2001, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., on
Tuesday, at the First Lutheran Church in Britt, with Pastor John Meyer
officiating. Music was provided by organist, Donna Tech who
accompanied congregational hymns. Special music was provided by
vocalist, Cindy Stewart. Ushers were Melvin Pergande and Paul
Smith. Casket bearers were David Gross, Mark Weiland, Paul Weiland,
Don Weiland, Dean Weiland and Bud Weiland. Interment was in the
Evergreen Cemetery, Britt. The Cataldo Funeral Home of Britt was in
charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by her seven children, Robert Weiland and his
wife, Bonnie of Fremont, Roger Weiland and his wife, Marlys of
Elma, Ronald Weiland and his wife, Sandra of Port St. Lucie,
Florida, Roland Weiland and his wife, Mary of Nevada, Rita Richards
and her husband, Jack of Iowa Falls, Ramona Orr and her husband,
Pat of West Palm Beach, Florida and Steve Weiland and his wife,
Mary of Urbandale; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

"Al" Ingebritson, 89,
of Lake Mills, died on Thursday, December 6, 2001, at the Lake
Mills Care Center.
Memorial services were held
on Wednesday, December 12, at the Salem Lutheran
Church in Lake Mills. The Rev. Roger Dykstra officiated. Inurnment was in
the Salem Lutheran
Cemetery in Lake Mills. The Mittelstadt Funeral Home was in charge of
the arrangements.
He is survived by two brothers, Marion and Palmer
of Lake Mills; a sister, Margaret (Toodie) Sader of Inver Grove
Heights, Minnesota; his daughter, Kay and husband, Wayne Ganzel of Sun
City West, Arizona; one granddaughter, Kimberly and her husband,
Roger Dwinell; and three great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Michael and
Eric, all of Amherst, New Hampshire.

Mason City, formerly of Forest City, died on Sunday, December 9,
2001, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
A Funeral Mass will be
held at 11:00 a.m., today, Wednesday, December 12, at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City. The Rev. Kenneth Gehling will officiate.
Burial will be at 2:30 p.m., in the St. James Catholic Cemetery in
Forest City, with the Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel in charge of
the arrangements.
Survivors include a sister, Ella Muehe of Mason
City, along with many nieces and nephews and other relatives and
friends.

FOREST CITY-Kennes E. Kingland, 83, of
Forest City, died on Sunday, December 9, 2001, at the Good
Samaritan Center in Forest City.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., today, Wednesday, December 12, at the
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. The Reverends Merlin Norris and Lee Laaveg
will officiate. Visitation was from 4-7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, December
11, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City and is one hour
prior to the services at the church today. Burial will be in the Elim
Lutheran Cemetery, rural Forest City. The family requests memorials be directed to
the Fertile Lutheran
Church, the Forest City Good Samaritan Center, or the Parkinson's
Foundation.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of Forest City; four children
and spouses, David and Susan Kingland of Forest City and their
children, Denise of San Francisco, California, Eric and his wife,
Shelly and their daughter, Makayla of Forest City, Deacon Olesen of
Orlando, Florida and Joseph Kingland currently serving the Navy;
Nancy and Charles Sweetman of Mason City and their daughter, Melba
Ruiz of Albuquerque, New Mexico and children, Alfonso and Celia; Ronald
and Sandra Kingland of Owatonna, Minnesota and their children,
Michael and his wife, Stephanie and children, Matthew and Scott Kingland of Owatonna, Minnesota, Kari Cruz and husband, Victor and baby
on the way of St. Paul, Minnesota; Marvin and Mary Kingland of
Hanlontown and their children, Emily Beenken and husband, Brandon
of Woden, Katherine and Rebecca Kingland of Hanlontown; two

(Pugh) Sarno, 84, of West Des Moines, formerly of Lake Mills, died
on Sunday, December 9, 2001, at the Mercy Medical Center in
Des Moines.
A Mass of Christian Burial was
held on Thursday, December 13, at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lake
Mills. Father
Craig Steimel officiated. Military rites were conducted by the Lake
Mills Otto/Chose Post 235. Burial was in the Ft. Snelling National
Cemetery, Minneapolis. The Mittelstadt Funeral Home was in charge of
the arrangements.
Survivors include her son, Dr. E. Michael Sarno;
her daughter-in-law, Georgia Sarno, both of West Des Moines; her
grandchildren, Christopher Sarno and his wife, Samara of
Coralville, Bradley Sarno of Denver, Colorado and Laura Sarno of
West Des Moines.

THOMPSON-Edward H. "Dutch" Krull, 86, of
Thompson, died on Tuesday, December 11, 2001, at the Lake Mills
Care Center.
Funeral services were held
on Friday, December 14, at the United Methodist Church
in Thompson. The
Reverend Gary Marzolf officiated.
Survivors include his children, Gary and Jeanne Krull of
Thompson, Allen and Donna Krull of Alexandria, Minnesota, Mary Green
of Thompson and Cara and Dave Chapman of Thompson; 13

SIOUX CITY-Agnes Tenora (Rusley) Flugum,
91, of Sioux City, died on Wednesday, December 12, 2001, at a
Sioux City Care Center of congestive heart failure.
Funeral services were held
on Tuesday, December 18, at the Bethany Lutheran
Church in Spencer. The Rev. Tom Dettmer officiated.
Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery, with the Warner Funeral Home in
charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her two children,
Ronald A. Flugum of Anchorage, Alaska and Helen Kay Flugum of
Sioux City; her siblings, Helen and Jesse Chase of Mason City,

of Fertile and Forest City, presently residing in Fountain Valley,
California, died on Saturday, December 15, 2001, at the Fountain Valley Hospital.
His body was cremated. A
memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date at the St. James
Catholic Church in Forest City.

Northwood,
died on Saturday, December 15, 2001, at his home.

paternal grandmother, Jeanne Steffanni of Wakeman, Ohio; eight

Charlie Steffanni and his wife, Pat of Sandusky, Ohio, Nancy
Schuster and her husband, Paul of Elyria, Ohio, Kevin Steffanni
of Cleveland, Ohio, Mary Ann Steffanni (Ryan's godmother) of

from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

ALDEN, MN-Evelyn Amelia Green, 92, of
Iowa Falls, died on Thursday, December 20, 2001, at the Ellsworth
Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services were held
on Saturday, December 22, at the Alden United
Methodist Church, Alden, Minnesota. The Rev. Harriett Norm officiated. Burial
was in the Northlawn Memory Gardens in Iowa Falls. The Surls Funeral Home
in Iowa Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include
two daughters, Virginia Claude and her husband, Gerald "Bud" of
Alden and Barbara Saathoff and her husband, Marvin of Nevada; a
son, Rodney Green and his wife, Cheryl of Des Moines; five
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Vivian Fox of
Forest City; and several nieces and nephews.

Wilna Oleson, 94
January 16, 2002
AUGUSTA, GA-Wilna B. Oleson, 94, a resident of Atria Assisted
Living in Augusta, Georgia, died on Thursday, December 20, 2001, at
the Doctor's
Hospital in Augusta.
A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church
in Forest City on a date to be determined later.
Oleson lived in North Augusta, South Carolina and Augusta since
coming from Honolulu, Hawaii in 1991, her home for 20 years.
Previously, she was a resident of Forest City. In Hawaii, Oleson
was active in AARP, did volunteer work and served the Lord as a
member of the Harris United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Beverly) Steiff of
Belvedere, South Carolina; one son, Carroll "Ole" Oleson of Marshalltown;
nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvan C. Oleson; and
two sons, Clinton and Darrell Oleson.

79, of Forest City, died on Saturday, December 22, 2001, at the

at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. The Rev. Michelle Simonson
will officiate. Burial will be in the Madison Township Cemetery in
Forest City, with the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in charge of the
arrangements. Visitation is one hour prior to the services at the
church.
Survivors include her daughters, Saundra R.
Meade and husband, Don of Forest City and Kathleen A. Olson and husband,
Robert of Forest City; son, Gary C. McEnelly and
wife, Dona of Baxter, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Terry Skjeie of Omaha,
Nebraska, Mari Jo (Skjeie) Mitchell of Middletown, Rhode Island, Kari Sue (Skjeie)
Johnson of Wanamingo, Minnesota, Bret McEnelly of Waconia, Minnesota,
Brenda (McEnelly) Hanson of Duluth, Minnesota and Sara Olson of
Forest City; seven great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren;
and a special friend, Patricia McEnelly of Chaska, Minnesota.

Funeral services were held on Monday, December 31, at the First Congregational Church
in Buffalo Center. The Rev. Paul Haugen officiated. Burial was in
the
Graceland Cemetery, Buffalo Center, with the Winter Funeral Home in
Buffalo Center in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his
wife, Regina; his daughters, Beverly Wells and her husband, Johnnie
of Mason City and Loretta Hugo and her husband, Harvey of Buffalo
Center; step-daughters, Sue Wilke and her husband, Paul of North
Mankato, Minnesota and Deb Spence and her husband, Brad of Winnebago,
Minnesota; step-son, Jeff Halverson of Surprise, Arizona; six grandchildren;

Valerie J. Ennen, 44
January 2, 2002
FOREST CITY-Valerie J. Ennen, 44, of
Forest City,
died on Saturday, December 29, 2001, at the Muse Norris
Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, after a
two-and-a-half-year, courageously fought battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, January 3, at
the Immanuel
Lutheran Church in Forest City. The Reverends Lee Laaveg and Michelle Simonson
will officiate. Music will be provided by organist, Leonard Markusen who will accompany the church choir and congregational
hymns. Honorary pallbearers will be her four children, Alicia Rozen,
John Rozen, Bret Ennen and Alyssa Ennen. Her body was cremated and
will be buried in a private family service in the Park Cemetery in Nora
Springs at a later date.
Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m.,
on Wednesday, at the Petersen Lund
Funeral Home in Forest City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be
given to the Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City or to
the American Cancer Society, Mason City, for
metastatic breast cancer research.
Survivors include her husband, Rex of Forest City; daughter,
Alicia Rozen at home; son, John Rozen and his wife, Ammie of Corwith;
her mother, Harriett Eng of Mason City; sister, Michele Eng of Mason
City; step-son, Bret Ennen of Clear Lake; step-daughter, Alyssa Ennen of
Clear Lake; two grandchildren, Skyler and Shaelynn Joy Rozen of
Corwith; along with many friends.

Doris Stearns, 83

BRITT-Doris E. Stearns, 83, passed away on Monday, December 31,
2001, at the Muse Norris Hospice in Mason City.
Following cremation,
inurnment will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt at a later
date.
Doris was born on November 25, 1918 at Mason City,
the daughter of
Clay and Lena (Ellingson) Mick.
She is survived by one brother, Charles E. Mick of Burlingame,
California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Stearns.
