Lois Elaine Meier, 77, of Swaledale, Iowa died
Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, at the Muse-Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa, surrounded by her
family.
A funeral service for Lois was held Monday, Jan. 5,
at the Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake with the Rev.
Dan Jordan officiating. Burial will be held Monday at
the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Swaledale.
Lois Elaine Meier was born on July 6, 1931, in Clear
Lake, the daughter of Charles and Elsie (Pals) Rickard.
Lois was baptized in Clear Lake, and attended and
received her education in the Clear Lake Community
Schools, graduating from Clear Lake High School in
1949. She was united in marriage to Martin Meier on
Oct. 15, 1950, in Clear Lake. After their marriage
together Lois and Martin farmed near Swaledale.
Lois enjoyed collecting stamps, bird watching,
sewing, and knitting, but Lois’s great love and
enjoyment was her family and grandchildren. Lois loved
to attend all of her grandchildren’s school activities.
Church was very important to Lois and she was very
active and a charter member of the Evangelical Free
Church in Clear Lake, where she taught Sunday school for
over 50 years. Lois was also a member of the Women’s
Missionary Society and the White Cross at the church.
She sang in the church choir and was active in the stamp
ministry at the church.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Martin
Meier, of Swaledale; her children, LaRee (Neal) Manson
of Marathon, Wis., Brad (Rachel) Meier of Swaledale,
LaDonna Woodford of Brooklyn Center, Minn., Greg (Julie)
Meier of Swaledale, and LaVon Regnier of East Bethel,
Minn., 12 grandchildren, Stacey, Lisa, Joel, Christina,
Amy, Anna, Sarah, Cari, Andy, Chelsy, Shealyn, and
Jackson; 20 great-grandchildren; as well as other
extended family members and friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents and her
sister, Jean Barnes.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in
charge of the arrangements.

Alfa V. Nickerson, 87, 13713 Indigo
Ave., Clear Lake, died surrounded by her
loving family, Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009 at
Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit,
Mason City, Iowa from a massive stroke.
Funeral service was held Tuesday,
Jan. 6, at Gallilean Lutheran Church,
Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jeff Ungs
officiating. Burial was in the Clear
Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be given to
the Alfa V. Nickerson Memorial Fund.
Alfa was born Nov. 24, 1921 in
Coulter, Iowa, the daughter of Chris and
Ingeborg (Strandskov) Jaspersen. She
attended school in Coulter and helped
take care of her brothers and sisters.
She later worked in a café and also for
Dr. Brownstone. Alfa married Walter
Nickerson on Dec. 10, 1944 at Zion
Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. They
lived on a farm south of Clear Lake.
Alfa worked out of her home during the
1960’s, and then for Furleigh Fruit and
Vegetable Farm from the 1980’s to the
present.
Alfa enjoyed knitting, making
afghans and blankets, playing cards,
dancing at the Surf, music, watching
birds and was an avid fan of the Twins,
Vikings and Hawkeyes. She loved to do
word puzzles and watch TV. She
thoroughly enjoyed watching her son and
two grandchildren show sheep at the
fair. One of her fondest memories was
of a 2004 trip to Washington D.C. to see
the WWII Veterans Monument.
Alfa was a member of Gallilean
Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, the Rural
Lakettes Club and Oweso Clubs.
Alfa is survived by her children,
Charlene Gillman and her husband, Leroy,
Winterset, Iowa and Allen Nickerson and
his wife, Sue, Clear Lake; four
grandchildren, Todd Gillman and his
wife, Barb, Garland, Texas, Sheri Monroe
and her husband, Galen, Little Rock,
Ark., Andrew Nickerson, Mason City, and
Katy Nickerson and friend, Will Lubkeman,
Clear Lake; great-grandchildren Bethany,
Jason, Alex, George and Genny Gillman;
brothers, Ervin Jaspersen, Des Moines,
Iowa, Harold (Viola) Jaspersen,
Thornton, Iowa, Arlo (June) Jaspersen,
Albert Lea, Minn., Herluf Jaspersen,
Peculiar, Mo. and Earl (Sharlene)
Jaspersen, Garner, Iowa; sisters, Verna
(Roy) Smeby, Joice, Iowa and Esther
Gilbertson, Billings, Mont.;
sister-in-law, Marlys Jaspersen, Cedar

nephews.
Alfa was preceded in death by her
parents; husband; four brothers, Harvey,
Vernon, Leo and Lloyd Jaspersen.

Pamela Kay Christiansen, 62, of 1307 7th Ave. North,
died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at the Muse Norris Hospice
Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m.,
Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the United Methodist Church, 508
2nd Ave North, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Diana Hoover
officiating. Burial will be in the Ell Township
Cemetery, Klemme, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to United Methodist
Church, Clear Lake, Hospice of North Iowa, Mercy Cancer
Center, or North Iowa Humane Society.
Pamela Kay Lemke was born Feb. 7, 1946, in Mason
City, the daughter of Clarence and Pearl (Neuberger)
Lemke. She graduated from Klemme High School in 1964.
Pam moved to Des Moines, Iowa to work for an insurance
company and later worked for Meredith Publishing
Company. In the fall of 1966 Pam moved to Clear Lake.
Pam was united in marriage to Robert “Bob”
Christiansen on Feb. 25, 1967, at the United Methodist
Church, Klemme. She worked for the City of Clear Lake as
an assistant city clerk. Pam worked for Futures
Management Corporation of Iowa for several years as a
corporate treasurer. Pam was the office manager for
WHY USA Realty for a few years and later the office
manager for Anchor Realty; retiring in February of 2008.
Pam enjoyed motorcycles and classic cars. She was an
avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and a huge Neil Diamond fan. Pam
and Bob enjoyed wintering in Florida and Arizona. She
was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church,
North Iowa Road Riders, and Clear Lake Auto Social
Society.
Pam is survived by her husband Bob Christiansen,
Clear Lake; brother-in-law, David (Alice) Christiansen,
Clear Lake, and sister-in-law, Doneta Pedelty, Clear
Lake; aunt, Frances Neuberger, Garner, Iowa; nieces and
nephews, Anne (Finn) Bullers, Prairie Village, Kan.,
Tina Christiansen, La Vista, Neb., Kristi Sly, Altoona,
Iowa, Kimberly (Alan) Bernhard, Bancroft, Iowa, Shelley
(Michael) Phelps, Lone Rock, Iowa; great nieces and
nephews; Christian and Alora Bullers, Benjamin
Christiansen, Cora Jane Sly, Luke and Joshua Bernhard,
Tatum, Thor, and Tenille Phelps; along with numerous
cousins and other relatives and friends.
Pam is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence
and Pearl Lemke and cousins, Mark and Franklin
Neuberger.

Maurice Eugene Kimball, 86, died at
his residence in Ocala, Fla. on Jan. 5,
2009. Memorial services were held Jan. 9
at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic
Church in Candler, Fla. Contributions
may be made in his name to Hospice of
Marion County, P.O. Box 4860, Ocala, FL
34478.
Maurice was born in Clear Lake and
was a graduate of Clear Lake High
School. He was a veteran of WWII serving
in the United States Army. He was
involved in the D-Day Invasion.
Following his time in the service he
worked for Duesenberg Construction on
the Alcan Highway. He then attended and
graduated from the University of
Wisconsin. He moved to Ocala from
Miami, Fla. 15 years ago. He was a
member of Immaculate Heart of Mary
Catholic Church in Candler and a member
of the Candler V.F.W. He was a retired
accountant for Matson Surety in Miami.
Maurice is survived by his son,
James Kimball; daughters, Barbara Quinn
and Joan Parsons; brother, Jack Kimball
and family; sister, Marilyn Fischer and
family; four granddaughters and five
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by his wife,
Beatrice A. Kimball.
Arrangements were made under the
direction of Hiers-Baxley Funeral
Services, Belleview, Fla.

Caroline E.
Hammond, 88, a long-time
resident of Clear Lake,
died Tuesday, Jan. 6,
2009 in Hiawatha, Iowa
following a lengthy
illness. A memorial
service will be held at
the Kingdom Hall of
Jehovah’s Witnesses in
Mason City, Iowa on
Saturday, Jan. 17, at 1
pm.
Caroline was born
Aug. 20, 1920 to Paul
and Pauline (Neckel)
Getzschman of Omaha,
Neb. Caroline was a
loving wife and mother,
and was a skilled
artist, seamstress, and
pianist. She was also an
excellent cook who
always provided her
family and dear friends
in Clear Lake with
homemade meals, soups,
breads, and desserts.
She will be remembered
for her warm
hospitality, love and
kindness.
Caroline was active
as one of Jehovah’s
Witnesses for nearly 70
years. Her faith was a
driving force in her
life, and she enjoyed
teaching and sharing the
Bible’s message with
others. One of
Caroline’s greatest joys
was studying the Bible
with people.
Caroline will be
greatly missed by her
three daughters,

Texas, Rebecca Lynxwiler
of Hiawatha and Penelope
(Steve) Gelner of Cedar
Rapids, Iowa; a brother,

John Pedersen, 90, formerly of Swaledale, Iowa,
died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 at the Rockwell Nursing Home,
Rockwell, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 9, at the
Swaledale Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Scherb
officiating. Interment was at the Mt. Vernon Township
Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the John Pedersen
Memorial Fund.
John was born May 26, 1918 in Kason, Minn., the son
of Arthur M. and Mary E. (Johansen) Pedersen. He
attended rural school northwest of Swaledale. He farmed
with his father. John married Inez Clark on Nov. 2,
1940. After her death, he later married Verneice
Fessler on Oct. 21, 1944 at the Little Brown Church,
Nashua, Iowa.
John worked in the foundry in Mason City in the
mid 1940’s, and then worked for Farmer Cement Feeder Co.
driving a truck and making deliveries. In 1947 he went
to work for Allis Chalmers as a mechanic in Mason City
until 1956 when he opened his own dealership in
Swaledale and operated it until he retired in 1980. He
started a wood working business with his son, Randy, and
also did mechanic’s work. In the fall he would help on
his son’s farm in Cresco, Iowa. He was a great problem
solver and hard worker.
John was the former Mayor of Swaledale, a council
member, and a member of the Swaledale Fire Department.
He was on the Cerro Gordo Condemnation Board and a
member of the Swaledale United Methodist Church. He
loved fishing and family gatherings.
John is survived by his wife, Verneice Pedersen,
Rockwell; three children, Clifford Pedersen and his
wife, Gaye, Cresco, Janice McCleish and her husband,
Richard, Liberty, Mo., and Randy Pedersen and friend,
Jean Hilbert, Wesley, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Jennie
(David) Mills, Julie (Kevin) Carter, Lisa (Daryl)
Sobolik, Angela (Scott) Linard, Matthew McCleish and
fiancé, Nicole Marriott, Johnny (Jenny) Pedersen, Katie
Pedersen and friend, Troy Smeby, and Arthur (Molly)
Pedersen; 13 great-grandchildren; siste, Alma Hanley,
Clear Lake, brother, Robert Pedersen, Lake Mills, Iowa
and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his
first wife, Inez, in 1943; an infant daughter, Gloria
Pedersen; two brothers, Ervin and Clarence Pedersen; and
an infant sister.

Raymond W. Trojahn, 85, 1037 19th St. SW,
Mason City, Iowa, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at
the I.O.O.F. Home, Mason City.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan.
13, at the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake,
with the Rev. Diana Hoover officiating.
Military Honors were provided by the Clear Lake
V.F.W. at the church. Inurnment will be at the
Pleasantview Cemetery, Hartley, Iowa at a later
date. Memorials may be given to the Raymond W.
Trojahn Memorial Fund.
Raymond was born Feb. 6, 1923 in Hartley,
the son of William and Amanda (Jansen) Trojahn.
He was raised on a farm near Hartley. He
graduated from Hartley High School. Following
high school, Raymond served in the Army during
WWII. He married Lois Fern Bracker on July 18,
1945 in Hartley. They farmed there for three
years. They moved with their daughter, Becky,
to Texas in 1949 where he worked as a theater
manager for Central States. They moved to Clear
Lake in 1968 and retired in 1987. Following
retirement he worked for Crescent Electric for
seven years.
Raymond and Lois loved to square dance
and line dance with the River City Squares and
dance to big band music such as Sammy Jensen.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Lois
Trojahn, Mason City; three daughters, Becky Berg
and her husband, Larry, Spirit Lake, Iowa, Nancy
Huber and her husband, Eugene, Clear Lake, and
Billie Hartman and special friend, Shannon
Bilyeu, Forest City, Iowa; grandchildren, Eric
Berg and his wife, Angela, Spirit Lake, Bryan
Berg and his wife, Kristin, Santa Fe, N.M.,
Kelley Huber, Dubuque, Iowa, Sara Huber, Clear
Lake, Matthew Hartman and Mandy Hartman, Forest
City; and one sister, Lillian Klinker, Hartley.
Raymond was preceded in death by his
parents and one sister, Esther Rost.

Marie Faber, 73, of 207
South 13th St., Clear Lake, died
Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at the
Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake,
surrounded by her loving family.
A memorial service was held
Monday, Feb. 2, at St. Patrick’s
Catholic Church, Clear Lake,
with the Rev. John R. Tilp and
Msgr. John Hemann officiating.
Inurnment was in the Clear Lake
Cemetery. Memorials may be made
to the Marie Faber Memorial
Fund.
Marie was born on the family
farm on Oct. 24, 1935, the
daughter of Carl A. and Helen (Gard)
Sippel at Schaller, Iowa. Marie
graduated from Sacred Heart
Catholic School in Early, Iowa.
She attended Briar Cliff College
in Sioux City, Iowa.
Marie was united in marriage
to Jerry Faber on Feb. 11, 1956
at Early, Iowa. They moved to
Clear Lake in 1959 where they
placed their roots raising five
children. Marie worked as a
waitress at Witke’s, The Ritz,
Best Western and Martha’s in
Clear Lake and Holiday Inn and
Seven Nations in Mason City. She
was very involved at St.
Patrick’s Catholic Church where
she played the organ for over 40
years providing music for the
congregation, funerals and
weddings. She loved to paint
scenic pictures, ceramics,
puzzles and knitting. She was
devoted to praying the Rosary.
Marie’s greatest gift was to
lead her family by faith and
example.
Marie is survived by her
husband, Jerry; five children,

(Matt) Larsen, Bill (Christina)
Faber, all of Clear Lake; Ellen
(Kevin) Miller, Indianola, Iowa,
and Steve (Angela) Faber, Clear
