Betty C. Secory
Betty C. Secory,
82, of 1810 N. 8th St., Clear Lake, died Saturday, March 3, 2007
at her home.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran
Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess and the Rev. Jeff
Ungs of Galilean Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be
in Clear Lake Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to the Betty
Secory memorial fund.
Betty was born Jan. 21, 1925 in Clear Lake, the daughter of
Harold and Laura (Hansen) Foster. She graduated from Clear Lake
High School in 1943.
Betty married her high school sweet heart, Lawrence "Larry"
Secory, on Sept. 14, 1946 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.
She enjoyed her monthly class reunion meetings, attending prayer
groups at Galilean, antiquing, eating out, her dogs, but most of
all spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She
was well known for her Texas Sheet Cake and her potato salad.
She was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Betty is survived by her three children: Joel Secory and his
wife, Julie, Jon Secory and his wife, Sue, and Sue Dwyer and her
husband, Kim, all of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren: Joel Secory
II and his wife, Amanda, Clear Lake, Dr. Adam Secory and his
wife, Jaime, Waukee, Iowa, Allison Secory, West Des Moines,
Iowa, Ted Secory, West Des Moines, Michael Dwyer and his wife,
Shelby, Clear Lake, Tim Secory, West Des Moines, Scott Dwyer,
West Des Moines, Andrew "Rip" Secory, Iowa City, Iowa and Cory
Dwyer, Iowa City; two great-grandchildren, Quintin Masteller and
Elle Ryan Secory; brother-in-law, Don Secory and his wife,
Marge, Hemet, Calif. and sister-in-law, Karen Secory, Clear
Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry, on
June 24, 2006 and an infant daughter.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of

Donovan Naughton
Donovan Naughton, 57,
Opportunity Village, Clear Lake, died Monday, March 5, 2007 at
the Twilight Cottage. Donovan has suffered from Down's Syndrome.
A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, March 8, 10 a.m., at St.
Patrick's Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave S., Clear Lake, with the
Rev. Michael Naughton officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday
from 3 - 5 p.m. with a Scriptural Wake service at 4 p.m. at
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel. Interment will be held in St
Patrick's Cemetery in Tama, Iowa.
Donovan was born May 3, 1949 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of
Edward and Mildred (Moyer) Naughton. He attended Pleasant Hills
School in Marshalltown. He lived at home with his parents and
worked at Mid-Iowa Workshop in Marshalltown. In 1974 he moved to
Opportunity Village. He has lived at the Twilight Cottage since
1989. He was a paper handler at the work village center. He will
be remembered most for his sense of humor, general
cooperativeness, and charm even though he had a sometimes fierce
spirit of independence. His personality endeared him to many of
his companions residents and staff who came to know him very
well. Among his strong characteristics were an acceptance of his
limits coupled with the ability to make his thoughts known and
understood.
Donovan loved to dance, especially at the Surf Ballroom. He
enjoyed listening to 50's music, listening to the White
Sidewalls and watching movies. He has always missed his parents,
but very much enjoyed his visits from his brother.
Donovan is survived by his brother, the Reverend Michael
Naughton, (O.S.B., of St. John's Abbey, Collegeville, Minn.)
Rome, Italy and his "family" at Opportunity Village. He was
preceded in death by his parents.

Cheryl Deike
Cheryl L. Deike, 61, Mason City, Iowa, died Thursday, March 8,
2007, at the Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 12, at the Christian
Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating.
Interment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be made
to the Cheryl Deike Memorial Fund.
Cheryl was born Aug. 11, 1945, in Mason City, the daughter of
Ellsworth and Mary Elizabeth (Keeney) Helm. Cheryl attended
school at Popejoy, Iowa and graduated from Alden High School in
1963, then attended Upper Iowa College Fayette. She worked at
Mercy Hospital as an aide.
Cheryl married Roger Deike, Sept. 23, 1967, in Mason City and
they lived in the Clear Lake area. Cheryl and Roger raised two
children. She enjoyed attending school activities and sporting
events. She was always in the stands, cheering on her two
children and many "extra" children. She was a second mother to
many.
Cheryl loved her dogs, reading, gardening, fishing and camping
with her family, rides in the country, and watching her
grandchildren.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Roger Deike of Mason City;
two children, Joyce Deike and her husband, Scott Smed, of Mason
City and Mark Deike and his wife, Jodi, of Iowa City, Iowa, and
their three children, Elisabeth, Katie and Sam Deike; her
father, Ellsworth Helm, of Popejoy; two sisters, Carol (Tom)
Vanderloop and Becky (Carroll) Kalous both of Alden, Iowa;
sisters and brothers-in-laws: Fonda Hickethier, of Alden, Don
(Carol) Deike of Clear Lake, Lola (Frank) Barrick of Center
Point, Iowa, Jim (Mildred) Deike of Greene, Iowa, Leroy (Lois)
Deike of Mason City, Waneta (Ray) Leege of Odebolt, Iowa, Marlin
(Diane) Deike of Mason City, Evonne (Dale) Lents of Winterset,
Iowa, and Al (Sue) Deike of Mason City; and many nieces and
nephews.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother, Mary "Betty" Helm;
step-mother, Eva Helm; step-brother, Marlyn Hickethier, and two
infant nieces.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Michael Sill
Michael S. Sill was tragically taken away on March 11, 2007.
A celebration of his life was held Friday, March 16, at the
Fraternal Order of Police, Akron, Ohio. Donations can be made in
his name to the Red Cross to support our troops.
Born in Wynona, Minn. on Feb. 9, 1944, he grew up in Clear Lake
and raised his family in Ohio.
Mike retired from Eli Lilly after 34 years and was employed as a
pharmacist at Rite Aid at the time of his death.
Michael loved golfing, traveling, spending time with friends and
family and watching his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes.
He is survived by his "beautiful bride" and soul mate, Shelbie;
five children; four grandchildren and many that loved him.
Mike's sons include Marine Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Sill
(wife, Kelly and grandchildren, Dustin and Ryley), Brian Sill
(wife, Laura and grandchildren, Tyler and Justin), Scott Sill
(wife, Karin), and daughters Lisa and Cindy.
Schermesser Funeral Home, Akron, Ohio, was in charge of

Miles
William (Bill) Max Miles, 81, of Clear Lake, died Monday, March
5, 2007 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. According to his
wishes his body was cremated. Visitation will be Friday, March
23, 5 - 8 p.m., at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th
St, Clear Lake with a scripture service at 7 p.m. and a Knights
of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m. A memorial Mass will be held at
St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave. S, Clear Lake, on
Saturday, March 24, 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. John Tilp
officiating. Inurnment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery with
military honors by the Clear Lake V.F.W.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to St.
Patrick's Catholic Church, Hospice of North Iowa or Oakwood Care
Center.
William Miles, the son of Frank and Maude (Eddy) Miles, was born
on July 11, 1925, on the farm granted to his great-grandfather,
John Miles, by President James Buchanan. He attended Union
Township School and graduated from Ventura High School in 1943.
He got his pilot's license at age 16. After graduation he
enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his country in the
Pacific region and participated in the Crossroads atom bomb
test. Following his honorable discharge he worked for Williams
Brothers Pipeline for 19 years. In 1972 he purchased the Clear
Lake Grain Company and the Miles Farm Store. He began his
employment with Nelson Petroleum in 1984 and retired in June,
2005.
Bill married Delores Falada Hanson on Dec. 30, 1954. Bill
enjoyed his family, home, friends, walking, nature, listening to
big band music, golfing, fishing, hunting and black powder gun
shooting, working with wood and remodeling homes. Bill and
Delores traveled through 44 states, southern Canada, Austria and
Czech Republic. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic
Church, where he served as an usher for 51 years. He was a
charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7898, Msgr.
Dougherty 4th degree Assembly, the American Legion and past
member of the Noon Lions Club.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Delores; two sons, Randy
and his wife, Linda, Issaquah, Wash. and Ron, Gualala, Calif.
Bill is also survived by his sister, Betty, and her husband,
James Carson, Aurora, Ill. and his brother, Stanley, and his
wife, Arlene, Brookfield, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Audrey
Miles, Huntington Beach, Calif. and Agnes Simper, Inglewood,
Calif. and two brothers-in-laws, Francis Falada, Des Moines,
Iowa and Nelson Wild, San Francisco, Calif, as well as several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Roger, on Nov.
17, 2001; one brother, Robert; three sisters, Madelyn Myers,
Joan Wild, and Dorothy in infancy; sister-in-law, Anna Falada;
two brothers-in-law, Hugh Myers and Roman Simper.

LuElla Jenkins
LuElla Jenkins, 84, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake,
died Thursday, March 15, 2007 at the Holy Spirit Retirement
Home, Sioux City.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 20, at Zion Lutheran
Church, Clear Lake with the Rev. Derik Yarian officiating.
Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Family
suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.
LuElla was born Nov. 29, 1922 in Anita, Iowa the daughter of
Curtis and Alina (Hardersen) Moore. She graduated from Forest
City High School in 1941.
LuElla married Norman Jenkins on Oct. 19, 1941 in Princeton, Mo.
They lived in Fertile, Iowa. She drove school bus for Forest
City Schools. In 1965 they moved to Clear Lake. She worked at
the Clear Lake High School as a secretary for Dr. Huntington for
over 18 years, retiring in 1984.
She enjoyed reading, attending Bible studies, playing games with
her grandchildren, and cross stitching. She made cross stitched
pictures for each one of her grandchildren.
LuElla was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Tina Rebekah
Lodge #105, Clear Lake.
She is survived by her son, Tim Jenkins, Sioux City;
daughter-in-law, Melodi Jenkins, Sioux City; and her three
grandchildren, Greyson Anthony Jenkins, Deming Jan Jenkins and
Griffin Douglas Jenkins, all of Sioux City, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Anthony Norman
Jenkins on Jan. 27, 1988; her husband, Norman Jenkins on Feb. 6,
1988 and one brother, Garnet Moore.

Ruth Morf
Ruth Dagne Vaala Morf, 93, Mt. Vernon, Iowa, formerly of
Fredericksburg, Iowa, died Monday, March 26, 2007 At Hallmark
Care Center in Mount Vernon.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 31, 1:30 p.m., at the
Hillcrest Baptist Brethren Church in Fredericksburg with the
Rev. Ron Pickney and the Rev. David Byrd officiating. Interment
will be in the RoseHill Cemetery, Fredericksburg. The family
will greet friends from 11 a.m. Saturday until time of service.
The family suggests memorials to Hillcrest Baptist Brethren
Church, Fredericksburg, First Baptist Church-Church of Brethren,
Cedar Rapids, Iowa or memorials of your choice.
Ruth was born Jan. 28, 1914 in Alta Vista, Iowa, the daughter of
Alf O. and Ella Marie (Natvig) Vaala. She graduated from New
Hampton High School in 1931 and graduated from Iowa State
Teachers College in 1935. She taught elementary school eight
years in the Dresden Township, Ridgeway, Ossian, Elkader, and
Charles City Schools. Ruth was baptized in the Saude Lutheran
Church, and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton.
Ruth married Arle Morf on June 17, 1941 in her parent's garden
in New Hampton. Ruth made her home in Fredericksburg until 2003
when her health required her to move to Hallmark Care Center in
Mount Vernon.
Ruth was proud of her Norwegian heritage. She came from a large,
extended Norwegian family, centered in Saude, Iowa, where she
spent many happy times, both as a child and as an adult. Her
numerous cousins, many double cousins, were very close to her.
She loved to get together with friends in Fredericksburg for
coffee and for cards, but most importantly for sociability. Ruth
was devoted to her family, and she greatly enjoyed her children,
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ruth's favorite scripture was Galatians 5: 22-23. The fruit of
the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness,
goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.
Ruth was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Brethren Church of
Fredericksburg. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star and the
Home Study Club in Fredericksburg.
Ruth is survived by her two sons: Darrel Morf and wife, Middie,
of Mount Vernon, and Dano and wife, Marianne, of Clear Lake;
five grandchildren: Paul Morf and wife, Jennifer, of Mount
Vernon, Andrew Morf and wife, Reagan, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa,
Alex Morf of San Francisco, Calif., Eric Morf of Clear Lake, and
Ali Morf Sparks and husband, Asa, of Grinell; three
great-granddaughters, Nellie, Abbie, and Betsy Morf; two
brothers-in-law: Robert Morf and wife, Betty, of
Charlottesville, Va., and Louis Morf and wife, Marcella, of
Monticello, Iowa, along with neices, nephews, and cousins.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1978;
and her brother, Ovey.

Patricia Ford
Patricia Ann Ford, 77, of Ventura died Friday, March 23, 2007 at
the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 27, at the Clear
Lake Church of Christ, with the Rev. Jim Allard and Steve
Nicholson officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in
Britt, Iowa.
Memorials can be directed to the Patricia Ann Ford Memorial
Fund.
Patricia Ann Ford was born on Jan. 13, 1930 in Whittemore, Iowa,
the daughter of Christian Harold and Bernice (Cunningham) Gard.
She attended Ventura schools and then began work for the Clear
Lake Bakery where she worked for over 20 years.
Patricia will always be remembered for looking out for others
before herself. Patricia taught Sunday school with her daughter,
Peggy, which was a very proud moment in her life. She was a
grandma and an aunt to many. Throughout her life she enjoyed
cooking, feeding the birds, embroidery, church, fishing, driving
around the lake, and especially spending time with her family.
She was a member of the Clear Lake Church of Christ.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Barb (Gulsvig)
Ford, of Waterloo, Iowa, Peggy Ford, of Ventura, Ruth (William)
Marshall of Boaz, Ala.; a son, Charles William Ford II, of
Ventura; grandchildren, Jessica Gulsvig, of Waterloo, and James
Acosta-Gulsvig of Jessup, Iowa; sisters, Mary Davison and Sue
Devore; brothers, Mike Gard and Jim Gard, along with many
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Joey; brother,
Charles; daughter, Cinda; and her parents, Christian Harold and
Bernice.

Kenneth Miller
Kenneth E. Miller, 89, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, March 17,
2007 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City,
Iowa. Memorial services were held Saturday, March 24, at Zion
Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess
officiating. Upon Kenny's wishes his body will be cremated.
Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be
directed to the Hospice of North Iowa.
Kenneth was born July 29, 1917 in Pine Island, Minn., the son of
Edward and Mabel (O'Dean) Miller. He was married to Geraldine
Farrer on July 15, 1962 in Mason City. Kenny was a meat buyer
for Fareway Foods Inc. for over 30 years until his retirement.
Kenny enjoyed his employment at Target as a "greeter" while in
his retirement. He enjoyed socializing with people, even
complete strangers, and he also enjoyed children. Kenny loved
the time he spent in Mora, Minn. on Knife Lake, where he was
very active in the Sportsmen's Club. He was a member of the
Zuhrah Shriners and the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Bodies Masons
and Zion Lutheran Church.
Ken is survived by his wife, Geraldine Miller, of Clear Lake;
children, Carol Ann Miller, Linda Collins and her husband,
Raymond, Dr. Deborah Marynak, Bruce Williams and wife, Michelle;
grandchildren, Tama Dixon and husband, Bill, Carrie LaBorde,
Mickie Jacobsen, Kellie Loberg and husband, Russ, Kenny Strom
and wife, Liz, Stephanie Williams, Shelly Williams, and Heather
Williams; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Russell Miller and
wife, Dorothy and Lester Miller; brother-in-law, Richard C.
Farrer and many nieces, nephews, and cousins
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris Greer;
sister-in-law, Pearl Miller and two grandchildren, Brenden and

Pamela Heimdal
Pamela D. Heimdal, 58, of Hampton, Iowa, died Thursday, March
22, 2007 in Rochester, Minn. Memorials may be given to the Pam
Heimdal Memorial Fund.
Pam was born April 20, 1948 in National City, Calif., the
daughter of Ray and Iris Hayward. She graduated from Monte Vista
High School, Spring Valley, Calif. Pam married Larry K. Jarrott
after high school, and later married Allen C. Heimdal on June 8,
1988 in Las Vegas, Nev. They lived in San Diego, Calif. Pam
worked as a bookkeeper in a collection agency. They moved to
Hampton after retiring in 2002.
Pam loved camping, fishing, needle point and traveling. Special
to her were her dogs, D.D. and Egor.
Pam is survived by her husband, Allen Heimdal, Hampton; her son,
Todd Jarrott, San Diego; and her step-son, Sean Heimdal, San
Diego.
Pam was preceded in death by her parents.

Norma Jean
Gilbert
Norma Jean Gilbert, 71, of Greenleaf Care Center, Fort Dodge,
Iowa, formerly of Clear Lake, died Saturday, March 24, 2007 in
Fort Dodge. According to her wishes her body has been cremated.
An Inurnment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City,
Iowa.
Norma Jean was born Oct. 28, 1935, in Mason City, the daughter
of Charles H. and Marcella M. (Jackson) Thomas. She attended and
graduated from Mason City Schools. Following school she married
and had four daughters. She worked in home health care. She then
married Ernest L. Gilbert on Feb. 17, 1972 in Blue Earth, Minn.
They lived in Marshalltown, Mason City and Clear Lake where she
continued her work in home health care.
Norma Jean loved playing cards and got the perfect score of "21"
in cribbage two times. She loved to knit, sew and make rag
dolls, including one that looked like her mother. She loved
animals, both cats and dogs. She was a Rainbow Girl in Mason
City. She was raised in the Lutheran religion.
Norma Jean is survived by her husband, Ernie L. Gilbert, Ft.
Dodge; her mother Marcella Thomas, Clear Lake; three daughters,
Debbie Jean, Signe Lynn and Nadine Ann; seven grandchildren and
several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her foster
brother, Fred Barlow, Mason City.
She was preceded in death by her father and her daughter, Karen
Sue.
