Ardie L. "Red" Lovick, age 77, of Washington,
Iowa died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004 at the United Presbyterian Home following
complications of Parkinson's Disease.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in
Washington with the Rev. Brian Gentz officiating. Interment with military rites
took place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been
established for the Lending Hands Adult Day Care or to the Immanuel Lutheran
Church in Washington.
Ardie was born July 7, 1927 in Fertile, Iowa the son of Henry O. and Ida
(Hanson) Lovick. After graduating from high school, Ardie graduated from Iowa
State University in Ames, Iowa in 1951. Ardie served in the United States Navy
during World War II. On June 7, 1952 he was united in marriage to Juanita Badger
in Montezuma, Iowa. He was a resident of Washington, Iowa since 1967.
In his earlier years he was a vocational agriculture and shop teacher at Mingo,
Iowa from 1951-1956. He was then a feed mill operator for 10 years and later
worked for Kaiser Fertilizer Company in Keota, Iowa from 1966 1972 where he
was district manager. Ardie owned the Sears Catalog store in Washington for 13
years. For 14 years Ardie was employed by the Washington Community School
District as a school bus driver and, at the same time, was a self employed
furniture restorer and owner of Washington Prairie Antiques. Ardie was a member
of the Immanuel Lutheran Church serving on the Church Council for six years. He
was also a member of Washington Kiwanis A.Mer's, and the Southeast Iowa Antique
Car Club since 1971. He enjoyed working on his '57 Chevy and Cushman scooter.
Ardie was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita "Nita" Lovick of Washington; son, Steven K.
Lovick and wife, Emily, of Ft. Smith, Ark.; daughter, Debra Jo Rees and husband,
Loren, of Boone, Iowa; and daughter, Robyn Marie Feik and husband, Jim, of Letts,
Iowa; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; three brothers, James Lovick and
wife, Alvera, of Fertile, Iowa; Leo Lovick and wife, Marlys, of Ackley, Iowa;
Larry Lovick and wife, Diane, of Forest City, Iowa; five sisters, Murlette
Hagen, of Lake Mills, Iowa, Pearl Hanna, of Clear Lake, Alice Toresdahl, of
Clear Lake, Elaine Ollenburg and husband, Bob, of Ventura, Iowa, and Doris
Bonnstetter and husband, Frank, of Clear Lake.
Ardie was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Karl in 1997; one brother,
Paul; and two sisters, Amy Brakke and Irene Brakke.

Ruth E. Nelson
Ruth E. Nelson, 86, Osage, Iowa, formerly of
Clear Lake, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004 at the Mitchell County Regional
Healthcare Center. A memorial service was held Friday, Oct. 29, at Our Saviors
Lutheran Church, Osage, with the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. The family will visit
with friends and relatives at the church following the service. Inurnment was
held at the Kensett Cemetery, Kensett, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the Ruth
E. Nelson Memorial Fund.
Ruth was born Jan. 3, 1918 in Osage, the daughter of William L. and Johanna
Charlotte (Becker) Dieterichs. Ruth attended Osage High School. She did house
work in Osage. Ruth married Conrad Nelson on March 17, 1939 at St. John's
Lutheran Church in Osage. They lived in Plymouth, Albert City, West Bend,
Kensett, and Des Moines, Iowa and in 1974 moved to Clear Lake. Ruth moved to
Osage in 1992.
Ruth loved joking with people, cooking, and having family come to Clear Lake for
the 4th of July. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Birdie Hauge and her husband, Mike, Madison,
Mo.; four grandchildren, Kelly Hauge and Cory Hauge, St. Charles, Mo., Crystal
Hauge, Shawnee, Kan. and Teri Craig and her husband, Keith, Yates, Mo.; two
great-grandchildren, Alexis and Mickael Craig; three step-great-grandchildren,
Kaitlyn Hopper, Kiersten and Kameron Craig; a sister-in-law, Gert Dieterichs,
Osage and several nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Conrad in 1991; one son,
Dennis Nelson; grandson, Mike Hauge; two sisters and six brothers.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

Donald L. Larson
Donald L. Larson, 72, formerly of Clear Lake,
died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004 at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown, Iowa.
Services were held Monday, Nov. 1, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear
Lake, with Richard L. Scott, Lay Assistant at Zion Lutheran Church officiating.
Family suggests memorials to Donald L. Larson Memorial Fund.
Donald was born Feb. 29, 1932 in Clear Lake, the son of Carl and Ida Mae
Larson. He graduated from Clear Lake High School and then attended Hamilton
Business College.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Following the service he
moved back to Clear Lake. He worked at Mercy Hospital as a custodian and later
Holiday Motor Lodge in Clear Lake.
Donald is survived by a daughter, Kristene Strickland; Donald Larson Jr. and a
step-son, Dan Eshelman, all of Marshalltown, Iowa; granddaughter, Haley Jo
Kapayou and one sister, Caroline Parks, Brentwood, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Eugene Elmer
Wright
Eugene Elmer Wright, age 73, of Osage, Iowa died
Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at his home. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 1,
at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev.
Roy Ott officiating. Interment was in the Osage Cemetery with Military Honors
at the grave by Osage American Legion Post 278 and Osage V.F.W. Post 7920.
Eugene was born Nov. 22, 1930 at the Nissen Hospital in Osage, the son of Elmer
and Nora (Wheeler) Wright. He was educated in Osage schools, graduating from
Osage High School in May of 1949. He enlisted in the United States Navy on July
18, 1949, serving in the South Pacific. He was in the Naval Reserves for seven
years. Eugene was united in marriage to Mayzee Ring on Dec. 14, 1952, at St.
Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville, Iowa. He started doing plumbing and
heating for Harry Johnson in 1953, after which he was employed by others in this
same area of work. Eugene started Wright Plumbing and Heating in July of 1977,
working a total of 45 years in the plumbing and heating business. He was a
member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage American Legion, Osage V.F.W., and
Osage Masonic Lodge 102 A.F. & A.M. Eugene enjoyed sports, especially football,
wrestling and fishing. He had a cottage at Clear Lake for 15 years, where he
spent many happy days on the lake.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Mayzee Wright, Osage; three sons, Dean Wright
and wife, Julie, of Clear Lake, and children Nicholas and Diana; Douglas Wright
and wife, Jean, of Osage, and children Jonathan, Stephanie and Emily; David
Wright and wife, Cornelia, of Clear Lake, and son Justin; three sisters, Marian
(Roger) Anderson of Dickeyville, Wis., Jeanette (Herbert) Heimer of Minneapolis,
Minn., Norma Jean (Bernard) Hoff of Belmond, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Lois Dinger
of Riceville, Iowa, Marlene (Glen) Dillon of Cresco, Iowa and nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Nora Wright, and a
granddaughter, Chelsey Marie Wright.

"Grimm" Vernon
Janet Jean "Grimm" Vernon, 65, Sparks, Okla.,
formerly of Clear Lake, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004 at Integris Medical
Center, Oklahoma, City, Okla. A funeral service will be Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2
p.m., at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz
officiating. Interment will be held at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may
be given to the Janet Grimm Vernon Memorial Fund.
Janet was born June 14, 1939 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Everett and
Hazel (Grell) Meloy. She lived in Clear Lake and Mason City most of her life.
Janet married Morton Grimm on Nov. 25, 1955. He died in 1979. She worked at
Mode O' Day in Mason City, E.F. Johnson in Clear Lake, Sperry Univac/ Unisys,
Clear Lake, and the Mile Post 194 Cafe in Clear Lake.
Janet married Bill Vernon on Aug. 22, 1987. She continued to work at the Mile
Post 194 where she was known for her homemade pies, cinnamon rolls and
biscuits. They moved to Oklahoma in 1994.
Janet loved nature, plants, people, cooking, baking and candy making. She never
complained about anything and very much loved her family and friends. Janet was
a very hard worker. Special to Janet was writing letters and receiving mail and
her dog, "Peaches."
Janet is survived by her husband, Bill Vernon, Stroud, Okla.; three children,
Morton E. Grimm Jr. and his wife, Barb, Mason City, Sheila O. Rapp and her
husband, Donald, Garner, Iowa and Bunnie Winters and her husband, Jim, Clear
Lake; two grandchildren, Dusty J. Allen, Garner, Iowa and Jim Winters Jr., Clear
Lake; four step-granddaughters, Pamela Krick and her husband, Fred, Des Moines,
Iowa, Trish Tiedemann and her husband, Brad, Mason City, Brandy Purvis and her
husband, Bob, Grand Junction, Iowa, and Ashley Kiss and her husband, Boris,
Garner; sisters, Marlys Stevens and her husband, Richard, Utah, and Juanita
Speiss Sr. and her husband, Jim, Mankato, Minn.; brother-in-law, Gus Vernon and
his wife, Peggy, Sayre, Okla.; sister-in-law, Mae Vaughn, Locust Grove, Okla.;
special aunt, Arlys VanNote, Garner; and special "sisters" Doris Anderson ("her
Swamper LeRoy"), Fertile, Iowa, Blanche Schultz, Fertile, and Cheri Grimm,
Northwood, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her father; mother; first husband, Morton Grimm;
infant brother, Donald and sister, Delores Maynard.

Velma Jacobsen
Velma Jacobsen, 85, of Clear Lake, formerly of
Thornton, Iowa died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit
in Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 29, at the United
Methodist Church, Thornton, with the Rev. Rose Calderon-Kahn presiding and words
of remembrance offered by Mr. Red Haugland. Interment was at Pleasant View
Cemetery in Thornton.
Velma Marie Jacobsen was born March 9, 1919 at Goodell, Iowa a daughter of
George and Lorena (Jenison) Luick. She graduated from Thornton High School and
Iowa State Teachers College. She taught in country school and at the Thornton
School for 10 years. She later worked at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home in Clear
Lake.
On January 20, 1946 Velma was united in marriage with Hans Peter Jacobsen at
Mason City. They made their home in Thornton and lived there for over 50 years.
Velma was a member of the United Methodist Church and active in the UMW. She was
a member of the Legion Auxiliary and the Pleasant Valley Golf Club. Her hobbies
included playing cards, traveling and spending time with her family.
Velma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who lived
life to the fullest and lived each day as if it were her last.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Hans; daughter, Sue (Kirby) Meints,
Forth Worth, Texas; son, Don (Donna) Jacobsen, Garner, Iowa; daughter, Jan
(Steven) Gobeli, Cincinnati, Ohio; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild and
many close nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Velma in death are her parents; three sisters, Voral Baker, Jean
Jackson and Mildred Luick and one brother, Donald Luick.

King
Leona B. (Lee) King, 84, died of cancer on
Wednesday, Nov. 3 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
A service to celebrate Lee's life was held at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake
on Monday, Nov. 8, with Lay Assistant Richard L. Scott officiating. Interment
was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Lee was born to John and Eleanor (Hermansen) Eliasen on April 4, 1920 in Clear
Lake. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Zion Lutheran Church. After
graduation from Clear Lake High School in 1938, Lee was a cashier in the coffee
shop at the Hanford Hotel in Mason City. During the early war years she worked
at Oluf T. Hanson's and then as an office assistant for Dr. R.W. Peterson in
Clear Lake. She married James H. King on May 7, 1942 after Jim had completed
basic training for the Navy and was home on 30-day delayed orders. When her
husband returned from an 18-month tour of duty with naval air groups in the
Pacific, he was stationed in San Diego, Calif. Lee followed him there and worked
at Consolidated Aircraft where the Navy's planes were being built. After the war
Lee and Jim returned to Clear Lake. Over the next few years three daughters and
a son were born. Lee enjoyed being a busy stay-at-home wife and mother. As the
children grew and were full-time students, she worked in the school hot lunch
program for 11 years. This allowed her to be home with her family when school
was not in session. In 1976 Jim was transferred to the general office of
Williams Pipeline in Tulsa, Okla. During their 20 years there Lee volunteered at
the Children's Medical Center. She also did custom sewing for the Quilting Bee,
a decorating business for homes and offices, and she was a volunteer for
Hospice. Lee and Jim made several trips back to Iowa over the years to visit
family and friends, and in 1996 they moved back to their hometown. The
transition back to Clear Lake seemed so natural and once again they enjoyed
being close to longtime friends and their family. They rejoined Zion Lutheran,
and Lee became active in Do Days, the Elderberries, the Visitation Committee,
Prayer Chain and Circle.
Lee is survived by her husband, Jim; her sister, Marian Holt and two
sisters-in-law, Mary Eliasen of Clear Lake and Helen Leggett of Houston, Texas.
She has three daughters, Barbara Rinell (Jim) of Des Moines, Iowa, Ginny Shinn
of Denver, Colo., and Linda Royce (Jim) of Charleston, S.C. Lee was blessed with
10 grandchildren, Michael and Christian Anderson of Des Moines and Amy Anderson
of Altadena, Calif., Brian King of Tulsa, Clint Baxstrom, and Tiffany, Ryan and
Todd Shinn of Denver, and Nicholas and David Royce of Charleston. Lee also
enjoyed four great-grand children, Alex Anderson, Lilly Baxstrom, Piper King,
and Aiden Anderson, along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Harry Eliasen, two
brothers-in-law, Keith Holt and Leo Leggett, and her only son, Curtis James
King.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be dedicated to Do-Days
Group at Zion Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

"Bill" James Trosper
William "Bill" James Trosper, 43, rural Rock
Falls, Iowa, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, of a farming accident. A memorial
service was held Saturday, Nov. 13, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear
Lake, with Pastors Thomas Healey and Doug Domokos officiating. Following the
visitation, he was cremated. Military Honors were held at the Sea Wall by the
Clear Lake V.F.W. Memorials may be given to the William James "Bill" Trosper
Memorial Fund.
Bill was born Sept. 2, 1961 in Fullerton, Neb., the son of Max O. and Donna
(Sargent) Trosper. Bill graduated from Grand Island High School. He married
Dianne Rhinehart and they lived in Ansley, Neb. He served in the U.S. Marine
Corp from 1979 - 1983. While in the service his son, Nathan, was born.
After his discharge from the United States Marine Corps Bill moved to Garner,
Iowa with a friend from boot camp. Shortly after moving to Garner, Bill met his
future wife, Merry. While "courting" Merry, Bill attended the NIACC
automotive program. Then on May 19, 1990 Bill and Merry Boulton were united in
marriage in Clear Lake. Soon after their marriage they moved to Alexander, Iowa
and Bill worked at a hog confinement and then he worked for Latham Seed Co.
Wanting to live closer to Bill's family, they moved to Grand Island in 1994
where he worked as a warehouse manager for Farmland Ind. In 1998 Bill
transferred to the corporate office in Minneapolis, Minn. and worked as the
transportation supervisor. They moved back to their present address at Rock
Falls when Merry's mom became ill. Bill worked for Quick Supply as a blaster.
Bill spent the last few years working on the farm were they lived near Rock
Falls.
Bill enjoyed family, friends, fishing, dogs and all the rest of his animals.
Bill is survived by his wife, Merry Boulton-Trosper, Rock Falls; his son, Nathan
J. Collister, Grand Island; his mother, Donna Trosper, Grand Island; one
brother, Bob Trosper and his wife, Deborah, Grand Island; two sisters, Karen
Schrader and her husband, Terry, Alda, Neb. and Debra Mumm and her husband,
David, Missouri Valley, Iowa; his father-in-law, Rancher Sears and his fiancé,
Karen Auchampach, Clear Lake, and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his father; mother-in-law, Maxine Sears and
brother-in-law, Mark Boulton.

Rose Mary Cuellar
Rose Mary Cuellar, 87, Highway 18 W., Oakwood
Care Center, Clear Lake, passed away Nov. 11, 2004 at Hospice in Mason City
after a short illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, Nov. 16, at
St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with Msgr. Robert Hogan officiating.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa in her name.
Rose was born in Texas on Sept. 28, 1917, the daughter of Felicia (Luna) and
Santiago Cuellar. Before coming to Clear Lake, Rose attended high school in
Buffalo Center, Iowa and moved with her family to work for Sam Kennedy and Sons
in 1944. She had been a resident of Clear Lake for 60 years. Rose was an avid
reader, excellent cook, and seamstress.
She is survived by two brothers, Sylvester and his wife, Martha, Denver, Colo.,
and Donald, Corpus Christi, Texas; a nephew, Jim Cuellar; a niece, Sondra
Peters, as well as other nieces, nephews and special friends, Wanda and Jack
Kennedy, Clear Lake, Sue and Rich Bristol, Denver, Colo., Scott Kennedy, Clear
Lake, Sally and Albert Roper, Clear Lake, and Sam and Denise Kennedy, Couer
d'Alene, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Frances, and brother, Sam.

Kuchenreuther
Kenneth Kuchenreuther, Portage, Mich, passed
away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004.
Kenneth was born Dec. 11, 1918, in Titonka, Iowa, one of 10 children born to
Lynn and Eva (Koestler) Kuchenreuther. He moved his family to Battle Creek,
Mich. in the early 1950's, first working as an insurance agent for Prudential
Insurance Company and then as owner of Ken's Stan
