Max Alfred Shepp, 89, died Saturday, Nov. 27,
2004, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. Funeral services will be held at
10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 1, at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St, Clear Lake
with the Rev. Derik Yarian officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment
will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Ottumwa, Iowa. The
family suggests memorials may be made to the Oakwood Care Center.
Max was born Dec. 28, 1914 the son of Hervey and Della Shepp at Ottumwa. Max
graduated from Ottumwa High School. He attended USC on a basketball
scholarship. He married Lillian Wylie on May 3, 1942 in Ottumwa. After college
Max served in the US Army as a 1st Lt. He served in the Battle of The Bulge and
at the bridge at Remagen. Following his discharge he returned to Ottumwa and
worked at John Morrell Co. in sales. They moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. in 1957
where he worked for John Morrell Co., retiring at the age of 63. They moved to
Clear Lake in 1990 to be closer to family. Max was a very loving grandfather
and was very proud of his grandsons and enjoyed attending their sport events.
Max loved sports, fishing at the Black Hills, and going to the YMCA. He learned
to play golf at age 63. Max was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake,
First Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, American Legion, and the Elks Club.
Max is survived by his wife, Lillian, of Clear Lake; son, Mark Shepp and his
wife, Linda, of Clear Lake; two grandsons, Drew Shepp of Mankato, Minn. and
Colin Shepp of Clear Lake; two nephews, Jim Shepp of Pasadena, Calif. and Joe
Larsen of Ottumwa; a niece, Lani Hillman, of Green Valley, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Glenn and Dale, and an
infant son, Max.

Wayne Gordon
Stokes
Wayne Gordon Stokes, 81, of 115 13th Ave S,
Clear Lake, died at his home Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004. Funeral services were
held Monday, Nov. 29, at the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, with the
Rev. Thom Christian officiating. Interment was at the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Wayne Stokes Memorial Fund.
Wayne was born the son of George Henry and Lucinda Mae (Merriss) Stokes, on June
18, 1923, at Hampton, Iowa. Wayne graduated from Iowa Falls High School and then
served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Wayne married Anna Miller on June 24,
1943. After his discharge from the service they moved to Clear Lake, where he
cooked for Curly's Café. He later worked for Davis & Keith Construction for 17
years and then worked on his own at construction until shortly after his 80th
birthday. Wayne enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling with his wife and their
special trip to Alaska, and his grandkids. He was a great father and
grandfather. Wayne was a member of the First Congregational Church and a
lifetime member of the Clear Lake V.F.W.
Wayne is survived by his son, Gordon (Gayle) Stokes of Clear Lake; two
grandsons, Shane Stokes and his friend, Dawn, of Tiffin, Iowa and Christian
(Amy) Stokes of Riverside, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren, Brittani, Hunter,
Hanna, Brienna, Alyson, Colby, and Tristan; two sisters-in-law, Viola Stokes of
Clear Lake, and Helen Stokes of California; special friend, Carol Meier of Clear
Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parent's; wife, Annie; three brothers, Comp, Ray
and Merlyn Stokes and two sisters, Helen Edwards and Irene Brown.

Harold G. Kramer
Harold G. Kramer, 90, of Clear Lake, died
Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Nov. 27, at the Clear Lake Evangelical Free
Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor David Wiersbe officiating. Burial was in the
Clear Lake Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Harold G. Kramer Memorial Fund.
Harold G. Kramer was born March 16, 1914 in Ackley, Iowa the son of George and
Josephine (Gast) Kramer.
Harold attended school in Ackley and worked with his dad in farming. He was
united in marriage to Alice (Bakker) Kramer on Feb. 11, 1935 in Whitten, Iowa.
To this union nine children were born.
Harold owned the Kramer Truck Stop in Blairsburg, Iowa. They moved to Baudette,
Minn. where he farmed and owned Kramer Disposal Service. After retiring they
moved to Clear Lake.
Harold loved to take hunting trips to Wyoming and fishing trips to Canada. He
also loved fixing things, carpentry and heavy equipment, but his greatest love
was his family.
He was a member of the Clear Lake Evangelical Free Church.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Kramer, Clear Lake; children, Janice and her
husband, Gerald Lemon, of Fairmont, Minn., Joyce and her husband, James
Pruismann, of Bondurant, Iowa, Mervin and his wife, Patricia Kramer, of
Urbandale, Iowa, Larry and his wife, Joan Kramer, of Poulsbo, Wash., Julie and
her husband, Jim Hanson, of Clear Lake, George and his wife, Mary Kramer, of
Baudette, Minn., daughter-in-law, Barbara Halsne, of Blairsburg, son-in-law,
Elmer Kalvig, of Clear Lake; sisters, Ruth Moon, of Tulsa, Okla., Esther and her
husband, Wally Getting, of Grundy Center, Iowa, Arlene Taylor, of Eldora, Iowa;
brothers, Merle and his wife, Mick, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, Gerhart and his
wife, Edna Kramer, of Ackley, Iowa; 24 grandchildren, and 37 great-
grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; children, Leon Kramer, JoAnn Kalvig,
Dennis Kramer; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, and
one sister.

DeForest Millard, 79, of Clear Lake, died
Monday, Nov. 22, 2004 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
A memorial service and inurnment will be at a later date.
The family of DeForest Millard has requested that memorial contributions be made
in his memory and may be sent to Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North
Fourth Street, Clear Lake, who is in charge of arrangements.
DeForest is survived by his two children, Ron Millard and his wife, Bonnie, and
Michele Eaton and her husband, Ken; four grandchildren, Margaret Knox and her
husband, Tyler, Katie Millard, Clint Eaton, and Anna Eaton; one great- grandson,
Charles Knox and companion, Jan Kickbush.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley and his parents, Vera and
Verald Millard.

"Katie" S. Lane
Kathryn "Katie" S. Lane, 90, of Clear Lake, died
Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. A memorial service
will be held at noon Thursday, Dec. 9, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel,
101 North 4th St, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Thom Christian of the First
Congregational Church officiating. Inurnment will be in the spring at Elmwood
Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.
Katie was born Aug. 9, 1914, the daughter of Cornelius and Ima (Preston)
Sauerberg at Topeka, Kan. Katie graduated from High School at Castleton, N.Y.,
and from college at Albany, N.Y. She received her master's degree from Iowa
State College at Ames in Plant Ecology. While looking for a teaching degree the
government had a program for attending flight school free for civilian pilot
training. Katie was accepted because she had a Masters Degree and passed for
commercial and instructors rating in 1940. Katie taught many of our locals to
fly. One of her students was Dr. Ed Chapell and she was his bookkeeper at the
Chapell Clinic for about 15 years until they closed. Katie married one of her
students, Ranseford E. Lane, on May 24, 1949 at the Congregational Church in
Mason City. Katie and Ranse loved to trap shoot. She also enjoyed knitting,
crossword puzzles, beekeeping, butterflies, and ecology. She was a member of the
First Congregational Church of Clear Lake. She was installed as a Deacon in
1999.
Katie had no children but is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and good
friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four sisters.

Marcella Jean VanDenBosch, 79, of 604 West Main,
Fertile, Iowa died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient
Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear
Lake, Iowa.

Jean VanDenBosch
Jean VanDenBosch, 79, died Tuesday, Dec.
7, 2004, at the Hospice of North Iowa Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
According to her plans, a remembrance and celebration of her life will be held
Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ, 3493 Eagle Ave,
Fertile, Iowa, with Pastor Curt Gallmeyer presiding. A private inurnment will be
held at the Grant Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held at the
church one hour prior to the service. Family suggests memorials to Fertile
Church of Christ or Hospice of North Iowa.
Jean Ouverson was born Jan. 30, 1925, to Harley and Edith (Humphrey) Ouverson of
Fertile, Iowa.
After graduation from Fertile High School, Jean pursued her interest in aviation
obtaining her commercial pilot's license. She continued training for a period
of time at the Aviation Academy in Kansas City, Mo., before returning to
Fertile. Those living in North Iowa in those days still speak of the times Jean
was heard and seen soaring above their communities in her Piper Cub.
She married Wayne "Butch" VanDenBosch on April 19, 1947 at the Church of Christ
in Fertile. To this union four sons were born. After many years, the marriage
ended in divorce.
To further her education in later years, Jean completed requirements for her
Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. She worked as the bookkeeper for the family
owned business of Fertile Valley Hatchery for over 30 years as well as assisting
in the overseeing of the general operation. In more recent years she was the
bookkeeper for The Petal Shoppe in Clear Lake, until her retirement in the late
1990's.
During Jean's declining health in recent years, she has enjoyed the fellowship
and assistance of many of the community members of Fertile who have so willingly
helped meet her needs. Of special pleasure to her was the morning coffee group
at the Downtown Café.
During more active years, she enjoyed gardening, music, reading and cooking,
however, she will be foremost remembered for her devout Christian faith. She was
a life-long member of the Church of Christ in Fertile, where she served for many
years in various capacities including Sunday school teacher, superintendent of
Christian Education, Christian Women's organization, and choir member.
She is survived by her four sons, Bob (Toby) of Mason City, Iowa, Mike (Karen)
of Iowa City, Iowa, Tom and Scott (Kelly) both of Strawberry, Az.; seven
granddaughters, two grandsons, and one brother, Bob (Betty) of Fertile.
Family members in heaven welcoming her home for Christmas are her parents and a
grandson.

Andrew (Andy) I. Jackson, 95, of Highway 9 E., Manly, Iowa died Wednesday, Dec.
8, 2004 at the Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were
held Monday, Dec. 13, 11 a.m., at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.
Interment was in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to Andrew
I. Jackson Memorial Fund.
Andy was born March 27, 1909 in Pipestone, Minn. the son of Hubert Andrew and
Violet Pearl Usher Jackson. He attended rural country school in Cerro Gordo
County. He served in the U.S. Marines during the WWII.
He lived in Des Moines, Iowa for many years and worked for Firestone Tire Co.
He later lived in Goshen, Ind. and in Algona, Iowa where he worked in an
airplane parts factory. He owned a restaurant in Britt.
Andy enjoyed dancing, working on his cars, joking around and bowling.
He is survived by six children, Dorothy Marie Vance, Des Moines, Andrew Jackson
Jr. and his wife, Lucy, Goshen, Eleanor Hogan, Waterville, Minn., Darline Price,
Earlham, Iowa, Arline Evans and her husband, Larry, Cape Cod, Fla. and Eunice
Benner and her husband, Larry, Albert Lea, Minn.; his sister, Marcella Thomas,
Clear Lake; 30 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marella Jackson; sister, Rachael
Johnson and her husband, Kenneth; brother, Fred Jackson and his wife,
Marguerite; brother-in-law, Charles Thomas and three grandchildren.

Lyle L. Carrott
Lyle L. Carrott, 93, of 1400 7th Ave. N., Clear
Lake, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004 at the Heritage Care Center, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 15, 10:30 a.m., at the Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Thomas Healey, Hospice Chaplin of
North Iowa, officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Rockford,
Iowa. Family suggests memorials to Lyle L. Carrott memorial fund or Hospice of
North Iowa.
Lyle was born May 27, 1911 on the Carrott farm in rural Rockford, the son of
Franklin James and Della Maude (Cheney) Carrott. He received his education in
rural Cerro Gordo and graduated from Rockford High School in 1930.
On Jan. 21, 1933 he was united in marriage to Irene Kock at the Methodist
parsonage in Mason City. Together they farmed for 30 years before leaving the
farm and going into business as Geneva Livestock Sales in Geneva, Minn. They
were in livestock sales for 27 years. They moved to Clear Lake in May of 1989.
Lyle and Irene enjoyed each other's company and spent much of their retirement
fishing in the Northern Lakes of Minnesota and traveling the southern states in
the winter. He enjoyed outdoor activities, fishing, hunting, woodworking and
traveling. He was a former member of Geneva United Methodist Church, Rockford
Masonic Lodge and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, Mason City.
Lyle is survived by his wife of 71 years of marriage, Irene; two sons, Larry
Carrott and his wife, Miora, Peculiar, Mo. and Robert Carrott and his wife, Kay,
Clear Lake; six grandchildren, David Carrott and his wife, Vicky, St. Regis,
Mont., Julie Wolcott and her husband, Dana, Lake Stevens, Wash., Eric Carrrott,
Belton, Mo., Rodney Carrott and his wife, Kimberly, Ankeny, Iowa, Brenda
Molencamp and her husband, Craig, Colorado Springs, Colo. and Brian Carrott and
his wife, Susan, Mason City, Iowa and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Thelma Pecht; an infant son,
Thomas and daughter-in-law, Dixie.

Charles (Chuck) Kenneth Paulson, 84, of North
Fort Myers, Fla. died Dec. 11, 2004. Graveside services will be Friday, Dec.

Chuck was born in Dike, Iowa, July 6, 1920, the son of Merritt and Cora E.
(Peterson) Paulson. Chuck served in the US Army during WWII. He was also a
civil engineer in Iowa and Illinois for 35 years and a member of the Lions
Club. He moved to Ft. Meyers in 1994.

Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004 at Rush-Copley Medical Center. He was born April 27,
1927 in Washington, Iowa the son of the late Earl and Ruth (Foster) Galloway.

Wilson
Dr. H.R. (Ray) Wilson, age 78, of Clear Lake,
formerly of Forest City, Iowa died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004 at Mercy Medical
Center in Mason City. Memorial service were held Tuesday, Dec. 21, at the First
Baptist Church in Forest City with the Rev. Doug Snyder officiating. Inurnment
was at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.
Harold Raymond Wilson was born in Woodbine, Iowa on Sept. 8, 1926, the son of
John V. and Virginia (Snyder) Wilson. He graduated from Webster City High School
in 1943 and served in the US Navy during W.W.II as a radio operator aboard the
USS Bobolink. Following his honorable discharge he began attending Long Beach
City College in Long Beach, Calif.
On June 5, 1949 he married Diane Lee Mills in Webster City, Iowa. The couple
returned to California where Ray completed his coursework. He then did his
pre-optometry work at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa before attending
North Illinois College of Optometry. After graduating in 1955, he began
practicing in Forest City.
An active member of the community, Dr. Wilson served six years on City Council,
was a member and former president of the Forest City Lions Club, a Mason in the
Masonic Lodge, a 50 year member of the VFW and a member of the United Methodist
Church. Professionally, he served six years on the Iowa Board of Optometry
Examiners, was a long standing member of the Iowa Optometric Association,
serving a term as president. He was honored as Optometrist of the Year in 1968.
In 1992 he retired from practice and moved to Clear Lake.
Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. He also loved gourmet cooking and
entertaining family and friends. His family remembers what a wonderful husband,
father and grandfather he was.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Diane Wilson, of Clear Lake;
children, Kristine Lewis and husband, Riley, Forest City, Marsha Wood and
husband, Robin, Forest Lake, Minn. and Mark Wilson and wife, Barbara,
Battlefield, Mo. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Todd (April) Lewis,
Karey Lewis, Sara Adkins, Matthew Wilson and Michael Wilson.
Dr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John and Dean
Wilson.
Family requests memorials be directed to Hospice of North Iowa and Mercy
Hospital 6 West.

(Dudgeon) White
Linda G. (Dudgeon) White, 56, of Mapleton,
Minn., formerly of Mason City, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at the
Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato, Minn.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 22, at the Clear Lake
United Methodist Church, 508 2nd Avenue South, with Pastor Jan Burnett
officiating. According to Linda's wishes, her body will be cremated following
services.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Linda was born on Oct. 22, 1948, in Mason City, the daughter of Dorothy and
Shirley Dudgeon. She attended school in Mason City, graduating from Mason City
High School. She went on to study nursing at Methodist Mercy Hospital in Des
Moines. She worked at Methodist Hospital after graduating. She later moved to
Kansas City, where she was employed as a nurse at a hospital there. She also was
employed at a Presbyterian Church camp while living in Kansas City, working as
the camp nurse and art instructor. She returned to Clear Lake where she worked
at Unisys before being employed at the IOOF Home in Mason City. Linda often
served as a private-duty nurse throughout her nursing career, along with her
regular jobs.
While living in Kansas City, Linda married Mike White. They had one daughter,
Lisa.
Linda enjoyed being involved in 4-H when she was young, and playing the piano.
She continued to enjoy music later in life, as well as painting, sewing and
animals. She was a loving mother and caretaker, and was very devoted to her
daughter, Lisa, and granddaughter, Lydia. Linda especially enjoyed taking walks
and reading books with Lydia. Linda also liked spending quality time cooking
together with Lisa and Lydia.
Linda is survived by her daughter, Lisa Kuchenbecker, and her husband, Nathaneil,
of Mapleton; a granddaughter, Lydia; her parents, Dorothy and Shirley Dudgeon of
Clear Lake; brothers, Michael and his wife, Catherine, of Kansas City, Patrick
of Clear Lake, and Peter of Des Moines; an aunt, Gloria Dudgeon, and two great
aunts, Fanny Zeiglar of Mason City and Elsie Verhow of Kanawha, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lisa Ann.
Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

66, of Bartow, Fla., died of lung disease Friday, Dec.
17, 2004 at the Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Fla. Services will be
held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 23, at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, 645 West
Central Ave., Winter Haven, Fla., 33881.
Gary was born Jan. 1, 1938 in Mason City, Iowa. He was a retired truck driver
and a part-time supervisor for Norlyan IMC in Barto.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Leach; one son, Gary L. Leach; a daughter,
Tammy Johns, all of Bartow; one step-son, Dennis Parker, Eagle Lake, Fla.; one
sister, Janice Molinsky, Clear Lake; six grandchildren; a host of aunt and
uncles and 56 classmates of the class of 1956. He will be sadly missed by all.

Lake, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004 at his home. Funeral services will be held

with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 -
7 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel. Interment will be held at Clear Lake
Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Mark Monson Memorial Fund.
Mark was born March 27, 1952, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Evelyn
(Welsh) Monson. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1970 and attended
Hamilton Business College. Mark married Marcia Gardalen on September 10, 1971
at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. Twin daughters Cristina and Cortney were
born May 17, 1991. Mark battled several illnesses throughout his life. His
strengths and courage grew through his fight, bringing much love and
understanding to his family and friends.
Mark's hobbies included golfing, bow hunting, picking up "nicks" with his
daughters and just being outdoors. Mark was a member of Zion Lutheran Church
and a member of the All Vet's Golf Course in Clear Lake.
Mark is survived by his wife, Marcia Monson and two daughters, Cristina and
Cortney, Clear Lake; four brothers, Arlen "Peep" Monson and his wife, Jan,
Charles City, Iowa, Dean Monson and his wife, Pat, Clear Lake, Alan Monson and
his wife, Donna, Clear Lake, and Mike Monson and his wife, Karen, Altoona, Iowa;
four sisters, Bonnie Holmgaard, Rockford, Ill, Rita Lee, Clear Lake, Shirley
Knapp and her husband, Jim, Iowa City, Iowa and Gloria Kline and her husband,
Mike, Bettendorf, Iowa; many nieces and nephews, cousins and many special
friends including the staff, patients and families at Mercy Dialysis Center.

90, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Mason City,
Iowa. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 22, 10:30 a.m., at Zion
Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, with Lay Assistant Richard Scott
officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior at Zion Lutheran Church.
Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery, St. Charles, Minn. Family suggests
memorials be made to Zion Lutheran Church Do Day Ladies or Opportunity Village,
Clear Lake.
Margaret Minnie Kopischke was born Oct. 29, 1914 in Alma City, Minn., the
daughter of August Carl and Minnie Johanna (Gerdts) Kopischke. She graduated
from Waseca High School in Waseca, Minn.
On Oct. 21, 1934 she was united in marriage to Jerome Charles Mahaffey at the
St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waseca, Minn. Together they owned and managed a
hatchery in St. Charles, Minn. for 25 years. Margaret moved to Clear Lake in
1976.
Margaret was very active in her church circle and with Do Day Ladies sewing
quilts which were sent to people in need around the world. She was an avid
gardener and cherished time with her family and many friends.
Margaret is survived by two sons, Ralph Mahaffey and his wife, Carolyn, of Clear
Lake and Gary Mahaffey, of Minneapolis, Minn.; four grandchildren, Sherri Luick
and her husband, David, of Lakeville, Minn., Mark Mahaffey and his wife, Kim,
Clear Lake, Michael Mahaffey and his wife, Amy, Clear Lake, Shannon Howe and her
husband, Brett of Gibbon, Minn., 10 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Minnie
Hanson, of River Falls, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers; four
sisters, and one great-grandson.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
