MacDonaldDorothy Dottie B. MacDonald, 80, of 1221 N. 7th St.,
Clear Lake, Iowa died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001 at the Oakwood Care Center,
Clear Lake. Dottie had requested that her body be donated to University
of Osteopathic Medicine, Des Moines, Iowa and their be no service.
Family suggests memorials be sent to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd St.
S.E., Mason City, Iowa 50401.
Dottie was born Sept. 6, 1921 in Hampton, Ark. the daughter of
Charles Henry and Nelle Bly (Harris) Gresham. She graduated from
Thornton
(Arkansas) High School. Dottie married John A. MacDonald April 6,
1944 in Alexandria, La. They moved to Clear Lake in 1965. She worked
for the Fashion Shop in Clear Lake and in 1987 started working for Olaf
T. Hansen Clothing Store.
Dottie is survived by her son, John H. MacDonald, San Diego, Calif.;
three grandchildren, Sheila MacDonald, Charlie MacDonald and his
wife, Aprile, and John MacDonald Jr., all of Des Moines, Iowa; one
great-grandson, Warren MacDonald; one brother, Jack Gresham and his
wife, Doris, Fordyce, Ark.; and one sister, Ruth Creed, Houston, Texas.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents and husband John in 1989.
Marion Leon Warren
Marion Leon Warren, 80, Clear Lake, died Friday Dec. 7, 2001, at the
Muse-Norris Hospice Unit of North Iowa, in Mason City.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 10, at the United Methodist
Church, Clear Lake, Iowa with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial
was in the Clear Lake Cemetery with military graveside honors by the
Clear Lake VFW.
The family of Marion Leon Warren has requested that memorial
contributions be made to the youth education programs at the United
Methodist Church in Clear Lake in his memory.
Marion Leon Warren was born July 3, 1921, in Harris, Mo., the son of
Albert and Maude (Wemmer) Warren. Marion attended and received his
education in the Milan, Mo. Schools, graduating from Milan High School.
Marion moved to Geneva, Iowa and worked as a farm hand until he was
inducted into the service.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Oct. 30, 1942, at Camp Dodge,
Iowa, and served as an infantryman with the 12th Calvary, and fought in
the battles in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, and the Bismarck
Archipelago, during World War II until his honorable discharge as SGT.
On Sept. 12, 1945, at Chickasha, Ok. Marion received the Purple Heart,
two Bronze Stars, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, three Battle Service
Stars, and the Combat Inf. Badge.
He was united in marriage to Velma Roegner on Nov. 9, 1942, in
Unionville, Mo.
After his honorable discharge from service, he worked as a mechanic
in Hampton, Iowa, before moving to Clear Lake, and working for the Clear
Lake School District as a custodian for 35 years. After his retirement
as a custodian Marion worked full time for Secory Plumbing in Clear Lake
until his retirement.
Marionıs hobbies were fishing, gardening, and visiting with family
and friends. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Clear
Lake, and the I.O.O.F. in Mason City.
Warren is survived by his wife, Velma Warren, of Clear Lake; son,
Dennis Warren, Ankeny, Iowa; two grandchildren, Jeff Warren and his
wife, Tara, Woodbury, Minn., and Kim Warren and her fiancé, Chris
Compton, Farmington Hills, Mich., as well as other relatives and
friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sam Warren, Glen
Warren, and Orville Warren; and one sister, Ellen Rainbolt.
Leonard L. Manson
Leonard L. Manson, 80, of 1 3rd Street, Ventura, died Sunday, Dec. 9,
2001 at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.
His funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, 10 a.m., at the
Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake, with Pastor David Wiersbe and
Pastor Randy Vaage officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen
Cemetery, Britt, Iowa, where military honors will be conducted.
Memorials may be directed to the Leonard L. Manson Memorial Fund.
Leonard was born Sept. 13, 1921 in rural Manchester, Iowa, the son of
Elmer and Emma (Swanson) Manson. He graduated from Dundee High School
and then worked as a hired man from 1939 until 1942. Leonard served in
the United States Navy during World War II. For 38 months he served as
a cook while stationed in the Hawaiian Islands. After his discharge, he
again worked as a hired man from 1947 until 1949. Leonard was united in
marriage to Alice Madson on June 5, 1948 at the Evangelical Free Church
in Britt, Iowa. They farmed in Delaware County from 1949 until 1970.
In 1970, Leonard moved with his wife to Clear Lake to become the
managers of the United Methodist Camp. They retired after managing the
camp for 14 years.
Leonard enjoyed gardening, flowers, bird watching, and reading. He
also liked to watch sports and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota
Vikings fan. Leonard was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in
Clear Lake.
Leonard is survived by five children, Lance A. Manson and his wife,
Jan, of New Hampton, Iowa, Craig L. Manson and his wife, LeAnn, of
Edgar, Wis., Neal P. Manson and his wife, LaRee, of Marathon, Wis.,
Lenice A. Lee and her husband, Daniel, of Huxley, Iowa, and Sherilyn S.
Theel and her husband, Darin, of Forest City, Iowa; ten grandchildren;
three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one
step-great-grandchild; and three brothers, the Reverend Harold Manson
and his wife, Jean, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Kenneth Manson and his wife,
Betty, of Dallas, Texas, and Elmer Manson and his wife, Doris, of
Manchester, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Alice, on June
8, 2001.
R. Dean Francis
R. Dean Francis, 73, of 2161 Edwin Ave., Fort Lee, New Jersey, died
Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit,
Mason City, Iowa. His wishes were to be cremated and private services
were held at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, Iowa.
Family suggests memorials to Rodney Dean Francis.
Dean was born May 28, 1928 at Swanville, Minn., the son of A. W. and
Cyrilla (Lang) Francis. He graduated from Stewartville, Minn. High
School in 1946 and graduated from University of Minnesota with a B.A.
degree.
Dean moved to New York in the early 1950ıs where he worked in the
theater. In the 60ıs until his retirement in 1993 he worked for a
television production company. After retiring he moved to Fort Lee.
Dean was very supportive of his family, especially his sons, and he
will be sorely missed.
Dean is survived by his two sons Timothy Lang Francis and his wife,
Meredith, Kensington, Md. and Alexander Francis and his wife, Beth,
Chester, N.Y. and their daughter, Shelby Francis; four brothers, Avison
W. Francis and his wife, Marjorie, Park Rapids, Minn., James G. Francis
and his wife, Elizabeth, Clear Lake, Kenneth Francis and his wife,
Martha, Sherwin, Texas, Richard Francis and his wife, Helen, Denver,
Colo.; four sisters, Wava Larson and her husband, Levern, Kasson, Minn.,
Ruth Percario and her husband, Nunzio, Bartow, Fla., Cyrilla Vessey,
Fairfax, Va., and Betty Kay Westphal and her husband, Gerald, Grand
Rapids, Mich.; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in
death by his parents; and two brothers, Everette and Robert Francis.
Margaret K. Anderson
Margaret K. Anderson, 87, died Tuesday Dec. 11, 2001, at the Oakwood
Care Center, Clear Lake, Iowa. Funeral services were held Friday, Dec.
14, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen
officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.
Memorials may be given to the Margaret K. Anderson Memorial Fund.
Margaret was born July 13, 1914 in Thornton, Iowa, the daughter of
Elmer and Lela (Floy) Nelson. She went to country school and graduated
from Thornton High School in 1931. On Dec. 15, 1935 Margaret married
Marvin Anderson in Thornton. They moved to a farm near Swaledale, Iowa
in 1936.
In 1948 they moved to Clear Lake. Margaret worked at the Clear Lake
Bakery from 1954 to 1959. She then worked part time at several cafes in
Clear Lake.
Margaret enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
visiting with her friends and having coffee, and going on car rides.
She also enjoyed going to the Do Day Club at church to make quilts, and
knitting afghans for family and friends. She also enjoyed watching
baseball.
Margaret was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Hope Circle.
Margaret is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Levenhagen, Des Moines,
Iowa; three sons, Gary Anderson, Clear Lake, Dennis Anderson and his
wife, Marcia, Clear Lake, and David Anderson and his wife, Judy, Clear
Lake; nine grandchildren, Sherri Olson and her husband, Todd, Nicole
Lyon and her husband, Mike, Travis Anderson, Jason Anderson and his
wife, Rachel, Joel Anderson and Jody Davis, Jacob Anderson, Scott Hakes
and his special friend, Ellen, Jaime Hakes, and Jennifer Allen; fourteen
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother-in-law, Floyd
Harms and his wife, Mary, Mason City; special friend Linda Bowers and
her husband, David, Clear Lake, two nieces and their spouses; and two
nephews and their spouses.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Marvin in
1989; and one sister, Ruth Harms.
Louise J. Ashland
Louise J. Ashland, 88, of the I.O.O.F. Home, formerly of Clear Lake,
died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit
of North Iowa.
A funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001 at Zion Lutheran
Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating. Interment
followed at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be donated to Zion
Lutheran Church, the I.O.O.F. Home, or Hospice of North Iowa. Ward Van
Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Louise was born April 16, 1913 in Delhi, Iowa, the daughter of
William and Logina (Meiners) Reth. She was united in marriage to Ed
Ashland on June 5, 1938 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. They
lived on a farm near Clear Lake, where Louise was a homemaker. She also
worked for 14 years as a cook for several restaurants and businesses in
Mason City and Clear Lake. She enjoyed baking, gardening, quilting,
embroidery and other handiwork. Louise moved from the farm to the
I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City in 1995. She was an active member of Zion
Lutheran Church, a member of the W.L.A.M. Club in Clear Lake, and a 4-H
Leader in Cerro Gordo County.
Louise is survived by five children: Alice Rasmussen and her husband,
Ken, of Des Moines, Iowa, Richard Ashland and his wife, Susan, of
Fridley, Minn., Melvin Ashland and his wife, Brooke, of Medford, Or.,
Roger Ashland and his wife, Cynthia, of Waseca, Minn., and Allan Ashland
and his wife, Nancy, of Clear Lake; sixteen grandchildren, 10
great-grandchildren; three sisters; five brothers; and many other
relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one
sister.
Joseph G. Johnson
Joseph G. Johnson, 87, of 900 Main Ave., Clear Lake, died Sunday,
Dec. 16, 2001 at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa.
Services will be Thursday, Dec. 20, 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church,
Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Graveside services
will be Friday, Dec. 21, 1 p.m. at Ihlen Cemetery, Ihlen, Minn.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, and then one hour before the service on
Thursday at the church. Family suggests memorials to Zion Lutheran
Church or memorials of your choice.
Joseph was born April 28, 1914 in Garden City, Iowa, the son of John
E. and Helen (Larson) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed in the
Bergen Lutheran Church, Roland, Iowa. Following school he served in the
United Sates Army during WWII.
He worked in Chicago, then moved to Roland where he worked for Great
Lakes Pipeline and later transferred to Clear Lake. He then worked for
Clear Lake Parks and Recreation Department for ten years, retiring in
1978.
Joseph enjoyed working on model trains, doing jigsaw puzzles,
reading, fishing and gardening. He was a member of Zion Lutheran
Church, Clear Lake, Clear Lake V.F.W., and was a lifetime member of
D.A.V.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Christine Johnson, Clear Lake; two
children, Sandra Millard and her husband, Gerald, Milwaukee, Wis. and
Lisa Hansmeier and her husband, Doug, Maple Grove, Minn.; four
grandchildren, Ryan Millard, Eric Millard, Abby Hansmeier and John
Hansmeier; one brother-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and several nieces
and nephews.
His parents; five sisters; and four brothers preceded him in death.
Andrew Edward Long
Andrew Long, 73, or Oregon, Ohio died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001 at Arbors
of Toledo. There was no visitation or services. Necomer Farley Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Long was born Feb. 18, 1928 in Clear Lake, Iowa to Edward Melvin
and Sena Jenson Long. He was employed with Acklin Stamping Co., retiring
in 1994.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Long of Oregon, Ohio; one son,
Sandy Long of Oregon, Ohio; two daughters, Robin Wallen and Linda
Seegraves, both of Tennesee; one sister, Peggy Ahrens of Iowa; and his
brother, Victor Mel Long of Clear Lake, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lloyd; and an
infant son Dennis.
