Alan James Henry
Alan James Henry, 47, of Laguna Niguel, Calif., died March 20, 1995, of a heart
attack. Burial was at the El Torro Memorial Park, Lake Forrest, Calif. Alan Henry was born
in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Jim Henry. He was a graduate of Central High School.
He is survived by three children, Christian Henry, Irvine, Calif., Allison Henry and
Cameron Henry, Huntington Beach, Calif.; sisters, Susan Peterson, Laguna Niguel,
Calif., and Julie Schultz, Green Bay, Wisc.; a brother, Brian Henry, Clear Lake, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Patty Lou Henry.

Clare Turnbull
Clare Turnbull, 89, formerly of Clear Lake, died Monday, March 27, 1995, at Good
Shepherd Care Center, Mason City, Iowa.
Memorial services were held Friday, March 31, at the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake,
with the Rev. Charles William officiating. The body was donated to the University of Iowa
Anatomy Department.
Clare Turnbull was born April 12, 1905, in Mason City, the son of George and Josephine
(Smith) Turnbull.
He attended Mason City High School. He operated his own radio repair shop in Mason City
prior to moving to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he worked for Collins Radio. He joined
the United States Air Force during World War II, also specializing in radio repair.
After returning from the service, Clare married Annie Louise Urban. She preceded him
in death Jan. 23, 1990. He was employed at Armour in Mason City from 1952-68.
He is survived by a son, Bruce Turnbull, Burchinal, Iowa; a daughter, Ann Sadler and her
husband, Jerry, North Brook, Ill.; four grandchildren, Kelley and Jenny Sadler, and Adam
Turnbull and Andrew Turnbull.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife.

Harry Weimer Alcorn
Dr. Harry Weimer Alcorn, 75, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, April 4, 1995, at home.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 7, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake, with
the Msgr. Joseph J. Slepicka officiating. Burial was at Elmwood-St. Joseph's Cemetery,
Mason City, Iowa. A scriptural wake service was held at the church Thursday, April 6.
The family suggests memorials to the North Iowa Mercy Health Center Foundation, or the
National Tuberous Sclerosis Association for research, 8000 Corporate Drive, Suite 120,
Landover, Md. 20785. Harry's grandson, Randy Rust, is affected with the disease.
Harry Allcorn was born April 3, 1920, in Tiffin, Ohio, the son of John Stuart and Mae (Roadman)
Alcorn. He graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn, Mich., in 1938. He continued
his education at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, graduating in 1942. He joined the
United States Navy in 1942 and served as a navy pilot and naval cadet flight instructor
from 1942-45.
He graduated from Creighton Medical School, Omaha, Neb., in 1950.
His internship was completed at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, Wis. He completed
ophthalmology residency at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Mich.
On Dec. 2, 1950, he married Dr. Marie O'Brien in Mason City. She preceded him in
death Feb. 23, 1983. Harry moved to Mason City
in 1954 and joined an eye, ear, nose and throat practice with Dr. Steve O'Brien. He founded
the North Iowa Eye Clinic in Mason City in 1972, retiring in 1982. During his practice, he
was affiliated with St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in the field of ophthalmology.
On July 14, 1984, he married Catherine Suter at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake.
He was a former St. Joseph Mercy Hospital staff president and a member of the Cerro Gordo
County Medical Association. His medical affiliations also included board certification and
membership in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical
Association and Iowa Medical Society. He was an active member
of several civic organizations, thalmology, the American Medical Association
and Iowa Medical Society.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Alcorn, Clear Lake; two daughters, Cynthia A. Rust....
...and which he owned until his retirement in 1973. He and
Virginia then moved to St. James City, Fla., where they made their home, spending summers
in the Clear Lake area.

Sherril Benner
On Oct. 7, 1934, he married Lila Hanson at the United Brethren Church in Goodell,
Iowa. The couple had five sons, Donald, Jerry, Stanley, Phillip and Lavern. They were
members of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Mason City.
Sherril performed different jobs, foreman at Chevrolet factory in Flint, Mich., worked at a
gas station, as a farmer, welder at Thomas Machine Co., and maintenance man for a
400 unit apartment complex in Dallas, Texas. He retired in 1969, after which the
couple lived in Clear Lake.
He loved golfing and bowling. He took up golfing at age 68. He started bowling in 1927 and
was on many bowling leagues over the years before giving up the sport in 1992
because of his health. He enjoyed his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Lila Benner, Mason City; a daughter, Beverley Kephart and her
husband, Raymond, Brighton, Iowa; five sons, Donald Benner and his wife, Mary Jo, Phoenix,
Ariz., Jerry Benner and his wife, Arlene, Grand Prairie, Texas, Stanley Benner and his wife,
Betsy, St. Peter, Minn., Phillip Benner and his wife, Maryann, Shreveport, La., and Lavern
Benner and his wife, Tess, Humbolt, Ariz.; two sisters, Bonnie Beers and her husband,
Burdette, Clear Lake, and Nadine McCormick, Spencer, Iowa; 22 grandchildren; and
25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Opal; a daughter, Shirley Jean; a sister,
Hazel Govig; a brother, Kenneth Benner; and a grandson, Thomas Anthony Benner.
Organist Arlis Meeker accompanied soloist Romeyn Sloan.

James W. Richey, 88, of St. James City, Fla., died
Thursday, April 6, 1995, at....
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Richey, St. James City, Fla.;
two sisters, Verna Ouvonly son of Thomas and Alice (Corn)
Richey. He married Virginia Harvey on June 17, 1948. He started a trucking business in Clear
Lake, which he later moved to Knoxville, Iowa, hauling coal for coal mines. He then started
Knoxville Ready-Mix Concrete Company....

Elfrieda C. Woiwod
Elfrieda C. Woiwod, 91, of Garner, died Monday, April 10, 1995, at Concord
Care Center in Garner.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 13, at St. John's Lutheran Church northeast
of Garner with Rev. Carl R. Hedberg officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park
Cemetery in Mason City.
The Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner was in charge of services.
Elfrieda Caroline Woiwod was born Aug. 19, 1903, the daughter of Fred and Alvina
(Wreded) Zeitz, on a Greene County farm near Churdan, Iowa. She was baptized
Sept. 20, 1903, and confirmed May 19, 1918 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Farnhamville.
She moved with her family to Fairmont, Minn. She worked as a nanny in Milwaukee, Wis.

On June 21, 1931, she married Alfred H. Woiwod at Fairmont, Minn. They farmed northeast
of Garner until 1965, when her husband died. Elfrieda moved to Clear Lake in 1968,
where she lived with her daughter, Ina Mae Woiwod. She had worked in Clear Lake at
Oakwood Care Center and at the Ben Franklin store. Due to ill health, she moved to
Concord Care Center in Garner in September of 1993. She was a member
of St. John's Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, L.W.M.L. and the Senior Citizen Clubs in both
Clear Lake and Ventura.
She is survived by a daughter, Elda Ann Motland of Hiawatha; a daughter-in-law,
Kathy Woiwod, Garner; five grandchildren, Rodney A. Fuller and his wife, Cecile,
Manhatten Beach, Calif., Nancy A. Gates and her husband, Rick, Clear Lake, and their
son, Brian, Elizabeth S. Waddingham and her husband, Mark, Garner,
and their daughter, Megan, Neal A. Woiwod and Susan K. Woiwod,
both of Garner; three brothers, Ernest Zietz and his wife, Helen, Arnold Zeitz
and his wife, Lorena and Alvin Zeitz and his wife, Lois, all of Fairmont, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred H. Woiwod, March 13, 1965;
a son, Arlo Woiwod, Jan. 23, 1991; and a daughter, Ina Mae Woiwod, Feb. 13, 1993.
Pallbearers were Elda Ann Motland, Kathy Woiwod, Rodney Fuller, Cecile Fuller, Nancy
Gates, Rick Gates, Elizabeth Waddingham, Mark Waddingham, Neal Woiwod and
Susan Woiwod.

Catherine C. Edwards
Catherine C. Edwards, 65, of Clear Lake, died Saturday, April 15, 1995, at the
North Iowa Mercy Health Center East Campus, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 18, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel,
Clear Lake, with David Funk officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials in her name.
Catherine was born Oct. 14, 1929 in Maywood, Ill., the daughter of Harold and C[?]
(Malony) McBeth. She graduated from Alexander High School, Alexander, Iowa, in 1947.

On Oct. 2, 1949, she was united in marriage with Hubert Edwards in Glenville, Minn.
The couple lived in Clear Lake and she was employed at the Tourist Park
Grocery for 14 years, beginning in the early 1960s. She also attended
Hamilton Business College during that time. She was later employed at Guardian Photo in
Mason City. She worked at Opportunity Village (formerly Handicap Village) for 12 years,
until 1992. She was employed by Advanced Water Systems LC, in Clear Lake.
Her hobbies included reading and watching television. She especially enjoyed driving
around the lake.
She is survived by a son, David Edwards, Clear Lake; a sister, Donna Lenning
and her husband, Donald Mason City.
The family suggests memorials in her name.

James Fatland
[James Fatland was born] ... 26, 1916, in Ellsworth, Iowa, the son of Ole and Inger (Winterton)
Fatland. He attended school in Ellsworth prior to moving to Clear Lake with his parents at
age 12. He worked with his father on the family farm before joining the United States
Army to serve during World War II.

In 1947 he married Eva Velau at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. The couple farmed south
of Clear Lake, then at Nora Springs before returning to Clear Lake. In March of 1955
he began working construction for Estergard's. One of the first projects he was involved with as
a member of the firm was building the roller coaster at Bayside, Clear Lake. He was also
employed at the Sugar Beet in Mason City during this time.
Later, he and Eva owned the Lake Cafe in the early 1970s. Eva preceded him in death Nov. 19,
1973. He formed J&G Construction Co. in Clear Lake. James continued in construction until
his retirement.
On Jan. 7, 1977 he married Norma Holmes at the Reformed Church in Klemme, Iowa. His
hobbies included playing cards and building bird houses and lawn ornaments. He also made
each of his grandchildren mantle clocks.
James was a member of the Ventura United Methodist Church and V.F.W. Post No. 4868
in Clear Lake.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Fatland, Clear Lake; a daughter, Sinva Opheim and her
husband, Randy, Plymouth, Iowa, and their children, Kari Neuberger, Kyle Neuberger, Aaron
Opheim and Megan Opheim; a daughter, Olina Blasi and her husband, Jim, Hampton, Iowa,
and their children, Chad and Corey Hanneman; a son, Silas Fatland and his wife, Charlene,
Esterville, Iowa, and their children, Nicole and Krystal Fatland; a step-daughter,
Cheryl Lutz and her husband, Randy, Mason City, and their children, Lisa and Jesse Lutz;
a brother, Silas Fatland and his wife, Laurleen Fatland, Clear Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and first wife.
