Delores Smith
January 12, 2012
Delores
A. "Dee" Smith, 91, of Webster City, died on Thursday,
January 5, 2012, at the Southfield Wellness Community.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, at the Missionary Alliance
Church at Blairsburg, with Pastor Stan Watne and Doug White
officiating. Burial will be in the Blairsburg Cemetery,
north of Blairsburg. Visitation will be at the Foster
Funeral and Cremation Center from 5-8:00 p.m., on Monday,
and at the church prior to the funeral services. Memorials
may be given to the Missionary Alliance Church Mission Fund
or Iowa Hospice.
Delores Arlene Smith, daughter of Milton and Mable Van
Buskirk Segar, was born on August 18, 1920 at Blairsburg.
She received her education in the Blairsburg Public School
and graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar
Falls. On November 24, 1938, she married S. Everett Smith,
on her parents' farm, north of Blairsburg. The couple were
married for 71 years and farmed in the Blairsburg area for
many years. They retired to Webster City on December 20,
2005. Mr. Smith died on September 17, 2010. She had resided
at Southfield since February of 2010.
Mrs. Smith was a member of
the Missionary Alliance Church and was a Sunday School
Teacher. She was also active in the women's missionary
fellowship and was a member of the Women's Farm Bureau, the
Needlecraft Club and the Blairsburg Quilt Club.
Delores is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Carol
Lewis of Marshfield, Missouri, Sherry and LeRoy Peck of
Webster City, Kathleen Paull of Kansas City, Missouri, Ruth
and William Cramer of Clarion and Elaine Robertson of Kamrar;
son and daughter-in-law, LeeClair and Martha Smith of
Rocheport, Missouri; 13 grandchildren; 24
great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Velma and
Paul Mathis; brother, Wilbur Segar, all of Webster City; and
several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her
parents; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Paul O. Pfaltzgraff
January 19, 2012
Paul O. Pfaltzgraff, a former minister of the Clarion
Methodist congregation, passed away on Friday, January 6,
2012, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, at
the age of 88 years.

Wendy Holthaus
Unger
January 12, 2012
Wendy
Unger, 46, died on Saturday, January 7, 2012, at the Iowa
Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, after a courageous
battle with leukemia.
Funeral services will be
held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, at the St. Boniface
Catholic Church in Waukee, with Fr. Bob Schoeman
officiating. Burial will follow in the Waukee Cemetery. The
family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at
the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee, where a vigil
service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to
family for the children's education.
Wendy was born on June 20, 1965 in Clarion, Iowa, the
daughter of Clark and Loretta (Paul) Holthaus. She graduated
from the Clarion High School and received her B.A. in
Communications from the University of Iowa. On August 24,
1991, she married Randy Unger in Clarion, Iowa.
Wendy worked in the IT department at Wells Fargo for the
past 16 years.
She was an active member
of her church, loved watching movies, jewelry making and
spending time with family and friends. Wendy had an
infectious laugh, a kind heart and a love of life.
Wendy is survived by her husband of 20 years, Randy; two
children, Chelsey Unger of Ames and Hailey Unger of Waukee;
step-daughters, Stacy (Sam) Freeburg of Ft. Collins,
Colorado, Stefanie Unger of Longmont, Colorado and Shawna
Unger of Denver, Colorado; sisters, Annette Saunders of
Denver, Colorado, Gail (John) Bormann of Waukee and Renee
(Peter) Hendricks of Clive; several nieces, nephews and
eight step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; and brother, Clark Holthaus of Oskaloosa.
Funeral arrangements by the Iles Funeral Homes, Westover
Chapel.

Deloris Wood
February 9, 2012
Deloris (Bell) Wood, 74,
of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on Wednesday,
January 11, 2012.
A Celebration of Life for
Deloris will be held at a later date.
Deloris was a loving
mother, grandmother and aunt. She enjoyed reading, sewing,
decorating and taking trips with family.
Debris is survived by her
son, Dana Anderson of Chariton, Iowa; her daughters,
Stephanie Blea and husband, Jay of Sparta, Missouri and
Adrianna Wood as well as special friend, Arlen of Colorado
Springs. Debris' brother, Keith Bell and wife, Betty are
residents of Clarion while her sister, Nancy Gelbhaus and
husband, Ray reside in Denver. She was also blessed with
four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Deloris was preceded in
death by her parents, Robert and Viola Bell; and and her
husband, Dr. Adrian Wood.

Eugene F. Frohling
January 19, 2012
Eugene F. Frohling, 77, of Clarion, passed away on Thursday,
January 12, 2012, at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.
Funeral services were held
at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, January 16, at the United Church
of Rowan, with Pastor Nancy Hofmeister officiating. Burial
was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion. Visitation was
held on Sunday, January 15, at the Ewing Funeral Home in
Clarion and was continued one hour prior to the services at
the church.
Eugene Frohling, was born
on November 2, 1934 in Meservey, to Herman and Gertie (Koenen)
Frohling. He attended and graduated from the Rowan High
School. Eugene was united in marriage to Ardith Strever on
January 30, 1954, at the Congregational Church in
Clarion. Eugene enlisted in the U.S. Army in February of
1954. Upon his discharge from the Army, he began farming,
which was his lifelong profession. He worked several other
jobs in addition to farming, including at the elevator in
Rowan, as a substitute mail carrier, as a school bus driver
for the Rowan Community Schools and for the Standard Oil
Fertilizer Company for more than 20 years.
Eugene enjoyed all types
of woodworking and he refinished and replicated antique
furniture. He loved fishing and looked forward to the annual
summer fishing trip with his family each August. Eugene was
also a gifted musician, singing tenor in several music
groups, including a quartet with his siblings. He was also a
regular attendee of the Dows jam sessions. Eugene was a
member of the United Church of Rowan, where he held several
church offices and was a member of the American Legion in
Rowan.
Eugene is survived by his
wife, Ardith Frohling of Clarion; his children, Leslie Stork
of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota and Gene (Kristi) Frohling of
Rowan; grandchildren, Aimee Miller of Rowan, Jonathan
(Miranda) Stork of Pequot Lakes, Alex Frohling of Rowan,
Kathleen (Kenny Charpentier) Stork of Pine River, Minnesota;
great-grandchildren, Warren Miller, William Miller, Hannah
Miller, Jethro Charpentier and Violet Stork; two sisters,
Bonnie (Robert) Leist of Rowan and Diane (Gordon) Sandman of
Belmond; one brother, Randy (Pam) Frohling of Belmond; along
with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and
friends.
Eugene was preceded in
death by his parents; his daughter, Vickie Sue Frohling;
granddaughters, Tiffaney, Sondra and Marcie Stork; his
son-in-law, Stephen Stork; and sister-in-law, Jessi Frohling.

Tina M. Fouts
January 19, 2012
Tina
M. Fouts, age 52, of Dows, passed away on Saturday January
14, 2012, at the Franklin County General Hospital in
Hampton.
The Family of Tina M.
Fouts will be greeting friends from 5-7:00 p.m., on
Saturday, January 21, at the Dugger Funeral Home in
Dows. There will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please
make memorials in Tina M. Fouts' name to the family.
Tina is the daughter of
David and Verla (Powell) Schlachter, born on December 27,
1959, in San Bernardino, California. At an early age, Tina's
family moved to Iowa Falls, where she grew up and attended
school. Tina proudly raised two daughters and worked her
entire life in central Iowa. Among her numerous jobs, were
working at Eureka in Webster City, Casey's General Store in
Dows and at the Dows Junction on Interstate 35. Tina was
united in marriage to Dean Fouts on June 4, 2005 in Alden,
Iowa. The couple made their home in Dows.
Tina enjoyed laughing and
spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed playing
cards and going to the Wild Rose Casino, where she was a
V.I.P. Tina also liked going for car rides, especially
convertibles.
Tina is survived by her
husband, Dean; her father, David Schlachter of Arkansas; her
paternal grandfather, Ray Schlachter of Arkansas; two
daughters, Kim (Tim) Ostwinkle of Des Moines and Trisha
(Matt) Jackson of Buckeye; three step-children, Scott, Brian
and Debi; and nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren,
three sisters, four brothers and numerous other nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her mother and step-father.

Francis Sherman Schilling
January 26, 2012
Francis Sherman Schilling, 82, of Clarion, passed away on
Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at the Wright Medical Center in
Clarion, surrounded by his family.
Memorial services will be
held on Tuesday, January 24, at 10:30 a.m., at the First
United Methodist Church in Clarion. Fellowship with family
will be one hour prior to the services at the church.
He is survived by Phyllis,
his wife of 62 years and their children, Mark Schilling and
wife, Zelene of Meservey, Debra Reyes of Mason City, Penny
Munday and husband, Jim of Ames, Diane Shores and
significant other, Wade Roberts of Dows, Kris Schilling and
fiancée, Sue Dahlstrom of Mason City and Karen Cmelik and
husband, Mike of Clear Lake; sisters, Elsie Pauk of Clarion
and Edna Coble of New Mexico; a brother, Richard Schilling
of Belmond; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Stephen and Dora Schilling, a brother,
Hannes Schilling; and his much loved grandson Garrett
Roberts.

Fern Gorder
February 9, 2012
Fern
D. Gorder, age 97, of Dows, died on Saturday, January
28, 2012, at the Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m.,
on Thursday, February 2, at the First Lutheran Church in
Dows. Pastor Ronald Nelson officiated. Burial take place
in the Fairview Cemetery in Dows. Visitation was held
from 5–7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 1, at the
Dugger Funeral Home and continued one hour prior to the
services at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be
made in Fern D. Gordon’s name to the family.
Fern Deloris Gorder, the daughter of
Rudolph and Beulah (Steiff) Rollene was born on May 17,
1914 in Morgan Township, Franklin County, Iowa. She
attended rural schools and graduated from the Dows High
School in 1931. She was united in marriage to Raymond
Gorder on September 23, 1936 in Dows, Iowa, at her
parents’ home. To this union two children were born.
Raymond and Fern farmed for six years north east of Dows
and then moved to their farm two miles north of Popejoy
where they farmed until Raymond retired. Fern was very
proud of their family farm and said she would never live
anywhere else. She lived there 69 years before moving to
the Scenic Manor in the fall of 2011.
Fern loved taking care of her home, her
family and flowers. She was a member of the First
Lutheran Church and remained a faithful member until her
death. She was an active member of the church being
confirmed in 1941, a member of the First Lutheran Church
Women, a Sunshine Lady. She was an active member of the
Dows Senior Center and one of the originating members
and over the years held several offices. She was also
selected the Wright County Outstanding Senior Citizen in
Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1982. Raymond and Fern loved
traveling and they took many memorable vacations. After
Raymond retired, they continued with shorter bus trips.
Fern enjoyed these trips and continued taking bus trips
after his death with her sister, Lucille.
Fern is survived by her son, Merlin and
his wife, Julie Gorder of Dows and her daughter, Marcia
Gorder and PJ Parry-Jones of Fort Dodge; grandsons, Lon
(Lisa) Gorder of Buckingham, Jeffrey Gorder of Mason
City, Steven (Sheena) Gorder of Indianola and Michael (Carie)
Burgher of Dallas Center; 8 great-grandchildren, Jacob
and Carlie Gorder, Dalton, Carter, and Eleanor Gorder,
Hank Gorder, Brooklyn and Brody Burgher; sister, Dorothy
(Robert) Dow of Oskaloosa; sister-in-law, Patricia
(Clint) Meyer of Iowa Falls; and very special friend,
Dena Boor.
She was preceded in death by her parents,
Rudolph and Beulah Rollene; husband, Raymond on April
21, 1990; brothers, Milo, Dale and Verl Rollene; sister,
Lucille Miller; sisters-in-law, Phyllis and Ruth Rollene
and brothers-in-law, Glen and Bruce Miller.

Frank John Campbell
February 2, 2012
Frank
J. Campbell, 98 yrs 6 mo, passed away peacefully on Sunday,
January 29, 2012, at the Careage of Clarion with family at
his bedside.
Per his wishes Frank chose
to be cremated. A memorial to celebrate his life will be
held on Friday, February 3, at 2:00 p.m., at the Clarion
Church of Christ on North Main Street. His grandchildren
believe that their grandpa would be pleased if memorials in
his name were made to any animal shelter.
Frank was born on July 9,
1913. He was the son of John and Mary Bruhl Campbell. He
graduated from the Clarion High School in 1931 and married
Margaret M. Conner on September 15, 1934. Frank worked for
Anderson's Grocery and as a Clerk Carrier in the Clarion
Post Office until 1940. He and Margaret also owned their own
grocery store in Clarion. He worked as a Fireman on the
Chicago Great Western Railroad and in 1948 was promoted to
Engineer. He retired in 1974 after 34 years of service with
the company.
Frank was a member of the
Fireman and the brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the
Church of Christ in Clarion.
Frank and Margaret enjoyed
their time at Eagle Lake in Minnesota. He and Margaret
enjoyed sharing many wonderful memories with their family,
friends and lake neighbors. Frank loved to fish and shared
this enthusiasm with his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. He and Margaret were known to have many
fishing contests and results were at times undeterminable
due to difference of opinions.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; his wife, Margaret in 1996; his daughter,
Pauline Askvig; and sons, Franklin Jr. and Robert; his six
siblings, Amy, Florence, Gerald, Joe, Ed and Rich; and his
great-grandson, Kevin Askvig.
Survivors include eight
grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 16
great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews along with
his Careage family.
