Dr. James A.
Hardinger

Dr. James A. Hardinger, of Boone, died suddenly on Saturday,
April 4, 2009, at the Boone County Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, April 7, at
the St. John's Catholic Church in Ogden. Burial was in the
St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Ogden. Memorials may be left
to the Iowa Kidney Foundation.
James Armand Hardinger, was born on November 17, 1947 in
Versailles, France, the son of Dayne and Simone (Franke)
Hardinger. He was a graduate of the Clarion High School,
received his B.A. Degree from Central Missouri State and
went on to receive his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine
from the Des Moines University. Dr. Hardinger has practiced
family medicine in Boone for 32 years. In 2003, he was
united in marriage to his wife, Maggie, at the couples home
in Boone.
Dr. Hardinger was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church
in Ogden. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and belonged
to the Gun Club and Mike Martin's Hunting Club out of
Luther. Jim was also a fan of high school wrestling and was
proud to have served as the physician at the Iowa High
School's State Wrestling Tournament for a number of years.
In 1997, he was inducted as the Grand Marshall at the annual
state wrestling tournament. Dr. Hardinger was actively
involved in numerous medical organizations.
Survivors include his wife, Maggie Hardinger of Boone;
children, Mandy (Hardinger) (Robert) Busch of Boone, Justin
(Heather) of Ankeny, Amanda Wassenaar, Emily Wassenaar and
Nick Wassenaar, all of Ogden; four grandchildren; one
granddaughter to arrive in May; and two brothers, Rick
Hardinger of Ankeny and Gary (Donna) Hardinger of Strong
City, Kansas.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; daughter, Amy Sprecher; and grandsons, James
and Dane Sprecher.

Ron Portwine
April 23, 2009
Ron Portwine, 67, of Clarion, passed away on Wednesday,
April 8, 2009, at the St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas
City, Missouri.
Memorial services were
held on Sunday, April 19, at the Ewing Funeral Home in
Clarion, with Pastor Gary L. Boen officiating.
