Loren J. Schipull
August 7, 2008
Loren J. Schipull, 85, of Goldfield, passed away on
Saturday, August 2, 2008, at the Trinity Regional Hospital,
Fort Dodge.
Funeral services were held
on Wednesday, August 6, at the Eagle Grove United Methodist
Church. Pastor L.J. Hartley officiated at the 10:30 a.m.
service. Burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.
Loren J. Schipull, was
born on December 5, 1922 in rural Goldfield, the son of John
F. and Beulah (Yanney) Schipull. He attended country school
and graduated from the Goldfield High School in 1940.
Loren attended college for
two years before deciding to enlist in the Army Air Corp in
1942. He became a B-17 pilot with his own crew, flying
missions in the European Theater in World War II. Loren's
flight logs showed he piloted 35 missions for his country.
Loren and Marjorie Wiser
were married on August 30, 1945. They farmed near Renwick
and were active in the community, including the United
Methodist Church, until 1988 when Loren retired from farming
and the couple moved to Eagle Grove, and then they joined
the United Methodist Church there.
Loren was actively
involved in the following boards and organizations: Boone
Valley School Board, W&H Coop Board, Renwick Farmers Coop
Board, Central Iowa Mutual Insurance Board, Security Savings
Bank Board, Goldfield American Legion, Renwick and Eagle
Grove Masonic Lodge, Wright County Hospice Advisory Board,
Eagle Ambassadors and numerous church boards.
Loren is survived by four
children, Laurel Wirtz of Elkton, Maryland, Beth Sparks and
husband, Dan of Omaha, Nebraska, Jim Schipull and Ann of
Goldfield and Clarion and Norman Schipull and wife, Luz of
San Santiago, Chile; 10 grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; and one brother, Stanley Schipull and
wife, Donna of
Clarion; and one sister-in-law, Chris Schipull of Goldfield.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; wife, Marjorie in 1995; infant sister; brother, Don; and two
infant granddaughters.

Gloria B. Harvey
August 7, 2008
Gloria B. Harvey, 84, of Goldfield, passed away at her home
on Sunday, August 3, 2008.
Memorial services will be
held on Friday, August 8, at the Goldfield United
Presbyterian Church. Dr. Arlo Reichter will officiate at the
10:30 a.m. service. Visitation is Thursday, from 5-7:00
p.m., at the Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Burial will be
in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.
Gloria B. Harvey, was born
on August 21, 1923 in Goldfield, the daughter of Vern and
Edith (Gaulke) Richards. She was raised and educated in the
area of her birth, graduating from the Goldfield High School
in 1940 and AIB in 1942.
Gloria and George Nelson
were united in marriage on April 24, 1943 at Cedar Rapids.
He passed away on August 5, 1944. On March 18, 1951, Gloria
married Merle Harvey at Goldfield. The couple made their
home in Goldfield where Gloria worked for the Goldfield
Telephone Company for 27 years, retiring in 1983.
Gloria was a member of the
United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, serving as the
church organist for 59 years. She also was a member of the
United Presbyterian Women, Emma Henry Circle, Bayview Study
Club and Oakridge Recreation.
She is survived by her
husband, Merle of Goldfield; two sons, Dave Harvey and wife,
Karen of Alpharetta, Georgia and Jim Harvey of Goldfield;
six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Gloria was preceded in
death by her parents.

Earl D. "Jack"
Ashpole
August 21, 2008
Earl D. "Jack" Ashpole, passed away on Tuesday, August 12,
2008, at Janesville, Wisconsin.
Earl was born on October 31, 1913 in Clarion. He attended
Clarion Schools, graduating with the class of 1931. He was a
member of the St. John's Catholic Church.
He is survived by a brother, Dick Ashpole of Clarion.

Russell Erwin
Dougherty
August 21, 2008
Russell
Erwin Dougherty, 85, of Belmond, passed away on Thursday,
August 14, 2008, at the Belmond Health Care Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial
was held on Monday, August 18, at the St. Francis Xavier
Church, Belmond. Rev. Nils Hernandez officiated at the 10
a.m. service. Burial was in the St. Francis Cemetery,
Belmond. Military rites were provided by the Belmond Honor
Guard.
Russell Erwin Dougherty,
was born on December 19, 1922 at Iowa Falls, the son of Earl
and Gertrude (DeNui) Dougherty. The family moved to Clarion
when Russ was five years old. He attended Clarion Schools,
graduating in 1941. Russ and Maxine (Martin) were married on
June 7, 1948 in Clarion. They eventually opened a jewelry
store in Belmond, moving there in 1949.
Russ is survived by his
wife of 60 years, Maxine; four sons, Dennis Dougherty and
wife, Joan of Belmond, Ron Dougherty and wife, Diane of
Ankeny, Steve Dougherty and wife, Val and Randy Dougherty
and wife, Kris, all of Belmond; one brother, Dale Dougherty
and wife, Irene of Clarion; one sister, Gerene Smith of
Eagle Grove: 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; one brother, Loren; one brother-in-law,
Spencer; and an infant grandson, Ryan.

Naomi A. Fawcett
August 28, 2008
Naomi A. Fawcett, 97, of Goldfield, passed away on Tuesday,
August 19, 2008, at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 22, at the
United Methodist Church in Goldfield, with Reverend Don
Morrison officiating. Burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery in
Goldfield.
Naomi A. Lewis, the
daughter of Willson and Ivalie (Wilhelm) Lewis, was born on
May 25, 1911 in Goldfield. She was raised and educated in
the area of her birth. After high school graduation in 1929
she attended business college in Des Moines.
Naomi married Harold C.
Brooks on April 25, 1930. To this union, two sons were born.
Harold died in February, 1961. Naomi moved back to Goldfield
and worked with her brother, Gene Lewis at Louie's Apco
Station. She married Marvin E. Fawcett on September 12,
1964. She was a homemaker and enjoyed traveling, fishing,
crocheting, embroidery and reading.
Survivors include her
husband, Marvin of Goldfield; son, Robert Brooks and his
wife, Shirley of McEwen, Tennessee; 4 grandchildren;
brothers and sisters, Glen Lewis of Olathe, Kansas, Marjorie
Schauer of Waseca, Minnesota, Gene Lewis and his wife,
Phyllis of Clarion and Bonnie Sheets and her husband, Merle
of Goldfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; son, Duane Brooks; a daughter-in-law, Norma
Brooks; brother, Virgil Lewis and a sister, Iris Bisher.

Dorothy Delle
Collins
September 4, 2008
Dorothy Delle Collins, 92, of Lakewood, Colorado, a native
of Mason City, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2008, at
the Mountain Vista Senior Residence Center in Wheat Ridge,
Colorado.
Funeral services will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in
Clarion on Saturday, September 20, at 10:00 a.m.
Dorothy Delle Fleming, was born on July 5, 1916 in Mason
City, the daughter of James B. and Bessie Elizabeth Flemming.
Her parents lived in Clarion. Her family built the first
public swimming pool in Clarion. Dorothy graduated from the
Clarion High School in 1936 and received her beautician's
license upon graduation from beauty school in Waterloo. She
opened her first beauty salon in Goldfield. In 1938, while
working at Gladbrook, she met Lionel F. Collins, a
career-long railroad employee. They were married in 1938.
They were divorced in 1956.
The Collins family moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1951.
Dorothy operated a beauty salon there until 1960, when she
and her daughter returned to Mason City. She opened the
Rainbow Beauty Salon that same year. In 1970, she opened the
Sew & Sew, which grew to include residential and commercial
interior design, upholstery and draperies, tailoring and
clothing design. The business eventually employed over two
dozen people. She closed the business in 1985 due to poor
health and moved to Lakewood, Colorado.
Dorothy was a dedicated member of the First Methodist Church
in Mason City and the Trinity United Methodist Church in
Denver. She was an activist in Colorado Republican politics
along with her daughter, Sherry.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Sherry of Lakewood,
Colorado; one sister, Glennys Johnson of Clarion; and an
aunt, June Durbin of Orlando, Florida.

William E. "Bill"
Hollis
September 4, 2008
William E. "Bill" Hollis, 69, of Dunnellon, Florida, passed
away on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at Ocala. Florida.
A funeral service was held
on Saturday, August 30, at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church,
Ocala. Rev. Ron Mueller officiated at the 11:00 a.m.
service.
William E. Hollis, was
born on August 30, 1938 in Webster City, the son of the late
Marion E. and Gladys E. (Frakes) Hollis. Bill moved to
Dunnellon in 2000 from Rochester, New York. For many years
he was a financial manager with Xerox Corporation,
Rochester, New York and following this he was a CEO and CFO
with various business interests.
He was a member of the Our
Redeemer Lutheran Church of Ocala, Florida, where he served
both as an usher and an Elder. Bill was an avid golfer and
was a member of the Rainbow Springs Golf and Country Club.
He is survived by his wife
of 49 years, Marlyce J. Hollis of Dunnellon; one daughter,
Gail Sloan and husband, Gary of Boston, Massachusetts; two
sons, Robert P. Hollis and wife, Kathleen of Canton,
Connecticut and Bill Hollis of Rocky Hill, Connecticut; one
sister, Carolyn Sandberg and husband, Bill of Chesterfield,
Missouri; and five grandchildren.

Noal Riles
September 4, 2008
Noal Arvil Riles, 88, of Lebanon, Missouri, died on
Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at his home.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 30, in
Lebanon and burial was in the Lebanon Cemetery.
Noal Riles, was born on December 25, 1919 near Dexter,
Missouri, the son of John and Nettie Carpenter Riles. He was
raised in southeast Missouri and then moved to Iowa. On
March 7, 1949, he was united in marriage to Sarah Lorene
Huggins and they made their home in the Clarion area. He
worked on a farm for a few years before starting his own
trucking business. He then owned and operated C & R Buick,
Pontiac and GMC Trucks for fifteen years. In 1979, he and
Lorene moved to Missouri and in 1993 they made their home in
Lebanon.
While in Clarion, he attended the Holmes Baptist Church. In
his spare time he liked gardening and caring for his yard,
always keeping a well manicured lawn. He also enjoyed
spending time with his family.
Noel is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Lorene;
three daughters, Carol Christeson and her husband, Lynn of
Webster City, Saundra Titus and her husband, Wyn of Lebanon
and Judy Halvorsen and her husband, Jim of Santa Barbara,
California; nine grandchildren; twenty-one
great-grandchildren; a brother, Lowell Riles of Buffalo,
Missouri; and several nieces, nephews and a host of other
relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Cassie
Knight; four half-brothers, Jim, Ardie, Charlie and Tommy
Riles; and two half-sisters, Ellie Hood and Effie Shepherd.

Mary Eleanor
Huntley
September 4, 2008
Mary Eleanor Huntley, 85, of Clarion, passed away on
Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at the Careage of Clarion, after
a hard fought battle with cancer, five days short of her
86th birthday.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 30, at the
St. John's Catholic Church, Clarion. Rev. Msgr. John W.
Hemann officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in
the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.
Mary Eleanor Wagoner, was born on September 1, 1922 in
Kanawha, the daughter of Dale and Nora (Cosgriff) Wagoner.
She attended the Kanawha High School and was united in
marriage to Oliver Huntley on January 1, 1940. The couple
was blessed with four children and the family lived in
Renwick until they moved to Clarion in 1965.
Eleanor was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church. She
enjoyed a lengthy and rewarding career with Stanley Home
Products from 1956 until the time of her death.
For the last seven years, Eleanor resided at the Meadows in
Clarion. Eleanor's joy in life was her children,
grandchildren, friends, and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Eleanor is survived by four children, Michael Huntley and
wife, Bonnie of Orno, Minnesota, Douglas Huntley and wife,
Lori of Belmond, Cecile Peddicord and husband, Richard of
Belmond and Shelley Pohlman and husband, Myron of Clarion;
11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters,
Agnes Wagoner, Marguerite McCracken and Trescella Gorton;
one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.

C. Rodney
Johnson
September 11, 2008
C. Rodney Johnson, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday,
August 27, 2008, after several months of chronic illness.
Rodney was born on April 6, 1916, on a small farm in Lamoni,
Iowa, the son of Ralph and Cosie Jones Johnson. They lived
off of the land for many years. He worked his way through
Iowa State College in Ames, graduating with a degree in Ag
Engineering. He met and married his wife, Helen from
Marshalltown. He served as a Lieutenant in the 101st Army
Airborne Division in World War II.
Rod was Sales Manager for a seed corn company, general
manager for an ag equipment manufacturer, and held various
other positions during his long business career. Rod earned
patents for his design efforts. He was an avid private pilot
and logged over 4,000 hours of flying, both for business and
pleasure. Rod and Helen made their homes in Des Moines,
Clarion, Overland Park, Kansas and Holiday Island, Arkansas.
They traveled in retirement before settling in Holiday
Island, Arkansas along Table Rock Lake. He was an excellent
hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a
member of the Holiday Island Presbyterian Church.
Rod is survived by his wife, Helen; three sons, Randy of
Overland Park, Kansas, David of Delano, Minnesota and
Stewart of Libertyville, Illinois; four grandsons; and three
great-granddaughters.
