Deloris June Scott
March 11, 2004
Deloris June Scott, 78, of Nevada, died on Thursday, March 4, 2004, at the
Madrid Home in Madrid.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 8, at the First United
Methodist Church in Nevada. Pastor Steve Williams officiated at the 11:00 a.m. service. Burial was in the
Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Dee June Thomas, was born on June 11, 1925 in Vesta, Minnesota, the daughter
of D. L. and Hildred M. (Jones) Thomas.
She
married Raymond Scott who preceded her in death.
Dee was a homemaker and also worked for the Soil
Conservation Service. She was a member of the
First United Methodist Church, Church Circle, Order of
the Eastern Star, ABWA, numerous bridge clubs, and
past member and board member of the Indian Creek
Country Club. Dee was an avid ISU fan and
enjoyed golfing, playing bridge and gambling.
Dee is survived by a daughter, Peg Stover of Urbandale; a son, Dave
Christensen of Calmar; five grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; a brother, Roger Thomas of Sioux
City; two sisters, Phyllis Stewart of Mendota Heights,
Minnesota, formerly of Clarion and Elner Pehl of
Austin, Minnesota; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Thomas
of West Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; and a
brother, Gordon Thomas.

Ross
Claire Stanbery
March 11, 2004
Ross Claire Stanbery, 83, of
Clarion, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2004, at the USA
Health Care Center, Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 9, at
the St. John’s Catholic Church in
Clarion.
Ross Claire Stanbery, was born on May 30, 1920 in Clarion, the son of Harry
and Ruth (Campbell) Stanbery. He spent his entire life
in Clarion and dedicated much of his life’s work to
serving his community and fellow residents. He served
as a Justice of the Peace in the 1950’s through
1970’s. He also owned a T. V. repair business that he
operated from his home on East Central Avenue in
Clarion.
Ross was a Wright County landowner and
frequented the local elevators to share some of his
humor with his fellow farmers. He is a past Grand
Marshal of Clarion’s Festival in the Park. Ross was a
member of the St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion.
Ross was an honorary member of the American Legion and volunteered
countless hours at the cemeteries constructing
headstones for veterans. He is well know for his stone
architecture that still adorns the entryways to the
cemeteries.
Ross was also an avid photographer and sports fan. He took thousands of
wrestling photos and distributed them throughout the
state of Iowa at no charge to the athletes or coaches.
He earned numerous awards for his commitment to the
sport of wrestling.
Ross will be remembered for his generosity to the community and his
devotion to helping others, especially young athletes
who needed a guiding hand.
Ross is survived by one niece, Rebecca Black of Fort Worth, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill; and one
sister, Harriet.

William E. Grett
April 1, 2004
William “Bill” E. Grett, 75, of Clarion, died on March 8, 2004, at
the Mercy
Hospital in Mason City.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held in May.
William E. Grett, was born on July 27, 1928 in Waco, Texas, the son of Levi
H. and Frieda (Busch) Nelson Grett. At the age of six
his mother was killed in a car train accident along
with his sisters, Beatrice and Mary Frances. His
father married Eleda (Pruett) Pickard in 1940.
Bill attended school in Arp, Texas and went on to Kilgore College where
he graduated with a Degree in Science.
While stationed in Berlin, Germany he met and married Waldtaude (Teddy)
Hentze on September 25, 1948. They made their home in
Oklahoma City for 50 years. Their marriage was blessed
with two daughters, Margaret and Barbara. Bill and
Teddy attended the Lutheran Church.
Bill was a mechanical engineer for Wilson Foods for 31 years and taught
Pre-engineering courses in calculus, chemistry, and
physics to future engineers. Serving as a firefighter
and later a volunteer firefighter was his way of
protecting those for whom he cared. Bill served his
country on active duty in World War II, Korea and Viet
Nam. Being in three wars and coming out without a
scratch gave him a perspective of life that few people
could understand.
Bill and Teddy moved to Clarion in 2000 to be near their family.
He is survived by his wife, Waldtraude (Teddy) Grett of Clarion; two
daughters, Margaret Zercher and husband, Jim of
Oklahoma City and Barbara Gardner and husband,, Bryan of
Clarion; two grandsons; one great-grandchild; four
brothers, Kenneth Pickard and wife, Lorraine, Donald
Pickard and wife, Martha, Clarence A. Grett, all of
White Oak, Texas and Tom Grett and wife, Becky of
Dallas, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, Levi H. Grett; mother, Frieda
B. Grett; step-mother, Eleda P. Grett; two sisters,
Beatrice Nelson and Mary Frances Grett; five brothers,
Carl Nelson, Robert Nelson, Paul Nelson, Harold Nelson
and Charles Grett.

Mary
Evelyn Deimerly
March 11, 2004
Mary Evelyn Deimerly, 81, of Clarion, passed away
on Monday, March 8,
2004, at the Trinity Regional Medical Center, Fort
Dodge.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 11, at the St.
John’s Catholic Church in Clarion. Father David
Beckman will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service.
Burial will take place in the St. John’s Cemetery,
Clarion.
Visitation was Wednesday, March 10, from 5-7:00 p.m., with a scripture
service at 6:30 p.m., at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home,
602 North Main Street in Clarion and one hour prior to
services at the church on Thursday.
Mary Evelyn Rogerson, was born on October 8, 1922 in Eagle Grove, the
daughter of Thomas and Katherine (Laird) Rogerson. She
attended the Eagle Grove High School and graduated in
1940. After graduation, Mary attended Secretarial
School in Eagle Grove. She worked for the Department
of Defense in accounting in Chicago, Illinois, prior
to returning to the local area.
On February 17, 1942,
she was united in marriage to John Francis Deimerly at
the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. This
union was blessed with seven children.
Mary was avid at crocheting and knitting, loved crossword puzzles,
gardening and fishing. She shared in the farm work
with John whenever possible and enjoyed driving the
tractor. She also helped raise chickens, cattle and
sheep on the family farm. Mary was a very devoted
wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She
was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church, St.
Theresa’s Circle and was a board member of the Cancer
Society.
Mary is survived by six children, Jerry and wife, Nancy of Cumming,
Thomas and wife, Becky of Marshalltown, Kathleen
Ahrens and husband, William of Willard, Missouri,
Patrick and wife, Kathy of Clarion, Mary Newman and
husband, Kevin of Des Moines and Dale and wife, Kim of
Clarion; daughter-in-law, Karen of Lakeville,
Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, John; and
sister, Virginia.

Marilyn
Kay Prather
March 18, 2004
Marilyn “Mick” Kay Prather, 52, of Spencer, died on Sunday, March 13, 2004,
at the Spencer Hospital.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 16, at
the Sacred Heart Catholic
Church, Spencer. Father Al Grindler officiated at the
1:00 p.m. service. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery,
Spencer.
Marilyn “Mick” Kay Prather, was born on May 25, 1951, the daughter of L. T.
“Roy” and Jean Marie Miller Menke. Her childhood years
were spent in Clarion where she received her early
education at the St. John’s Catholic Church and graduated
from the Clarion High School. She then attended Iowa
Central Community College in Eagle Grove, Iowa State
University in Ames, and Mankato State University in
Mankato, Minnesota, where she received a teaching
degree.
Mick taught school in the communities of Newton, Omaha, Nebraska, Britt
and Spencer. While living in Spencer, Mick taught at
the Spencer High School. Teaching was her passion, as
she taught school for over 30 years. In her spare
time, Mick collected coca-cola products.
On June 20,
1992, Mick married James (Jim) Prather in Spencer.
Mick is survived by her husband, Jim of Spencer; one brother, Mark Menke
of Eagan, Minnesota; parents, L. T. and Jean Menke of
Clarion; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and other
relatives and friends.

Cecil W. Lockhart
March 25, 2004
Cecil Worth Lockhart, 54, of Clarion, died
on Monday,
March 15, 2004, at the Wright Medical Center, Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 19, at
the First Lutheran Church,
Clarion. Pastor Gary Boen officiated at the 10:30 a.m.
service. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.
Cecil Worth Lockhart, Jr., was born on July 10, 1949 in Brushy, Texas, the
son of Cecil Sr. and Maxine (Miller) Lockhart. He
attended school in Texas and stayed there for most of
his teenage years. Cecil and his first wife, Carol,
then moved to the Ozarks where they were blessed with
their daughter, Sheila.
Cecil moved to Kansas City to work for Taystee Bread. While in the Kansas
City area he began working for Meyer’s Turf in
Stillwell, where he met his wife, Kim. Their marriage
was blessed with a son, Jake. Cecil was a Seed
Supervisor at Meyer’s Turf with his very good friend,
Herb Avery. He helped a friend open a tire business in
Stillwell, but after that he and Kim found that Jim’s
Tire Company in Clarion was hiring. Cecil and Kim
moved back to Clarion in 1994 with their son, Jake and
have lived here since that time.
Within the last three years, Cecil began working for the City of Clarion.
He enjoyed spending time with his children and
grandchildren, fixing old cars and pickups, golfing,
getting together with the guys in his garage and
spending time with people in general.
Cecil is survived by his wife, Kim; son, Jake; daughter, Sheila Trahan
and husband, Todd of Mesquite, Texas; two
grandchildren; mother, Maxine of Iowa City; and one
brother, Olin of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father; brother, Jerry; and
one sister, Cynthia.

Ruth Jeannette Chapman
March 25, 2004
Ruth Jeannette Chapman, 87, of Hampton, formerly of
Eagle Grove and Clarion, passed away on Monday, March 15,
2004, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 18, at the United
Presbyterian Church in Clarion. Rev. Candace Adams
officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in
the
Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion.
Ruth Jeannette Sackett, was born on August 26, 1916 in Clarion, the daughter
of Lloyd and Nora (Darland) Sackett. She was raised
and educated in the Clarion area, attending country
school and graduating from the Clarion High School in
1934.
On April 3, 1937, Ruth was united in marriage to John J. Chapman in Wright
County. To this union four children were born. After
their marriage the couple settled on John’s family
farm south of Clarion. Ruth lived there until 1970 and
then moved to Eagle Grove. In 2000, Ruth moved to
Hampton.
Ruth worked at the grocery store and helped people in their homes. She
enjoyed doing crafts, flowers and gardening. Ruth also
helped raise livestock on the farm. She was a member
of the United Presbyterian Church and the KYN Club.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Jean and husband, Jerry of Hampton;
sons, Stan Chapman and wife, Karen of Clarion and Eddie
Chapman of Oregon; nine grandchildren; 33
great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren;
and
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John J.; daughter,
Dixie; and two sisters, Eva Castleman and Fern
Tourtelotte.

E. Huckins

Grover E. Huckins, 82, of Clarion, died on Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at the
USA Health Care Center in Clarion.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, March 11, at
the USA Health Care
Center in Clarion.
Grover E. Huckins, was born on January 26, 1922 in Harlan, the son of
Raleigh and Pearl Huckins. He served in the United
States Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Huckins of Clarion; four children,
George Huckins of Kansas City, Missouri, Lynn Huckins
of Crandall, Texas, Kent Huckins of Seagaville, Texas
and Sharon Janson of Goldfield; six grandchildren; and
nine great-grandchildren.

Stephanie Ruth Unger
March 25, 2004
Stephanie Ruth Unger, 41, of Clarion, passed away
on
Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at the Wright Medical Center
in Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 20, at the Missionary
Alliance Church in Blairsburg. Pastor Bill Keller
officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial will take
place in Casey, Illinois. Services were held in Casey,
Illinois on Monday, March 22, at the Nazarene Church.
Stephanie R. (Yates) Unger, was born on August 6, 1962 in Kankakee,
Illinois, the daughter of James and Ruthie (Carroll)
Yates. She attended the Casey-Westfield High School and
graduated in 1980. After high school, she attended
Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, Illinois, where
she graduated in 1984 with her Bachelor’s Degree.
On August 6, 1983, Stephanie was united in marriage to Rick Unger. This
union was blessed with three daughters. Early in their
marriage she was a music teacher in the Knox County
School District in Edina, Missouri and also enjoyed
coaching basketball, softball and tennis there.
Stephanie went on to be a successful music minister
with the Harvester Nazarene Church in St. Charles,
Missouri. Stephanie and Richard then moved to Clarion,
so that he could establish a surgical practice in the
area. She continued to be very active with her family,
church, home based business and being a homemaker.
Stephanie loved to sing and would frequently visit churches in the area
to share God’s love through music. She enjoyed
numerous hobbies which included scrap booking,
horseback riding, and Karate. She attended the
Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsburg.
Stephanie is survived by her husband, Rick; three daughters, Amanda,
Heidi and Emily; parents, James and Ruthie (Carroll)
Yates of Casey, Illinois; two brothers, James Yates of
Charleston, Illinois and Greg Yates and wife, Vicki of Bourbannais, Illinois; sister, Sonya Comer and
husband, David of Casey, Illinois; father and
mother-in-law, Richard Sr. and Pat Unger of
Edwardsville, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Memorials may be directed to the children’s education fund, c/o 1st
Citizens National Bank, American Breast Cancer Society
or the Missionary Alliance Church Building Fund.

Ellen
Ahlstrom
March 25, 2004
Ellen Ahlstrom, 100, of Parkersburg, died on Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at
the Maple Manor Care Center in Aplington.
Memorial services were held
on Saturday, March 20, at
the Christian Reformed Church in Parkersburg. Private
internment was held in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Ellen Hinman, was born
on February 4, 1904 in Belmond, the
daughter of Arthur C. and Elizabeth (Keenan) Hinman.
She and Gunnar Ahlstrom were united in marriage on
February 9, 1924. They celebrated 66 years of marriage
and were the parents of one daughter, Jean Trey and
one son, Paul. Until their retirement the couple
farmed near Belmond and Goodell.
Ellen participated in school, church and community
activities and was appreciated for taking on most any
responsibility she was asked to do. She was a great
cook, a fine seamstress, an avid gardener and helped
with all the farm work from chores to field work.
Since 1986, Ellen moved from her life long home in
Belmond to live with Paul and Jean Trey in
Parkersburg. After 11 years she made the decision to
move to Maple Manor and lived there for almost seven
years.
Ellen is survived by her children, Jean and Paul; five
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister,
Ruth Baldwin; one brother, George Hinman; nieces,
nephews and friends.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; husband;
son-in-law; infant twin brothers; step-mother; three
brothers, Stephen, Bob and Earl Hinman; and two sisters,
Agnes Hinman and Ethelyn Benson.

"Bill" Schumpp
March 25, 2004
E.W. "Bill" Schumpp, 72, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Clarion, passed away
on Saturday, March 20, 2004, at the Trinity Regional
Medical Center in Fort Dodge.
Funeral services were held
on Wednesday, March 24, at 2:00
p.m., at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home in Clarion.
Edward William Schumpp, was born
on March 30, 1931, the
son of Edward A. and Mayme (Rier) Schumpff in Clarion.
He was raised in the Clarion and Harcourt areas,
graduating from the Harcourt High School in 1950. He
farmed in the Gowrie and Harcourt areas for most of
his adult life.
Bill is survived by his uncle, Walter Schumpp of Mason
City; and three cousins, including Bob Rier and wife,
Pauline of Clarion, Beverly Melhus and husband, Kenny
of Eagle Grove and Betty Rumme of Des Moines.

Vivienne Wright
March 25, 2004
Vivienne Wright, 88, of Red Oak, formerly of Clarion, passed away
on Sunday,
March 21, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in
Red Oak, after an extended illness.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, March 25, at the Willim Funeral
Home Chapel in Clarion. Rev. Curt Miner officiated at
the 1:00 p.m. service. Burial of ashes was in the Evergreen
Cemetery, Clarion.
Vivienne May Tollefson, was born
on August 18, 1915 in
Berlin, North Dakota, the daughter of Isaac and
Elizabeth (Guyer) Tollefson. Vivienne graduated from
the Eagle Grove High School and was later united in
marriage to George Wright on September 20, 1938. After
their marriage George served in the military, at which
time they lived in Port Orchard, Washington, before
moving back to Iowa. Vivienne and George lived in many
towns in Iowa, including Clarion, where they managed
country clubs and bakeries. George preceded her in
death on February 7, 2001, at which time she moved to
Red Oak to be near her son and grandchildren.
Vivienne was a member of the United Church of Christ
Congregational in Clarion.
Survivors include her son, Terry Wright and wife,
Darla of Red Oak; three grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Madeline Ashpole of
Mason City and Ruby Freeman of Eagle Grove; and many
nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Dorothy
Evelyn Jones
April 8, 2004
Dorothy Evelyn Jones, 86, of Eagle
Grove, died on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at the Wright
Medical Center in Clarion.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 5, at 10:30 a.m., at the United
Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. Burial was in the Rose
Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
Dorothy Evelyn Crowl, was born on July 26, 1917, the daughter of Herbert and
Lenore (Debord) Crowl at Goldfield. She was raised and
educated in Goldfield and graduated from the Goldfield
High School in 1935.
On May 17, 1936, Dorothy and Eldon Irving Pletcher were united in
marriage. Dorothy and Eldon farmed in the Eagle Grove
and Clarion area until Eldon’s death on December 9,
1961.
After Eldon’s death, Dorothy moved to Webster City and was employed by
the Hamilton County Hospital on the housekeeping staff
and eventually as the night switchboard operator. She
worked at the hospital for 18 years.
Dorothy married Francis Adrian Jones on November 25, 1978 at the Little
Brown Church in Nashua. They lived in Webster City,
but spent many winters in Tucson, Arizona. They moved
to Tucson in the fall of 1995. Dorothy and Francis
returned to Eagle Grove in the fall of 1996. In April
of 1999, both Dorothy and Francis moved into the
Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove. Francis preceded
Dorothy in death on July 14, 2002.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Richard Pletcher and wife, Judy of
Clarion, Ronnie Pletcher and wife, Betty of Eufaula,
Oklahoma, Jean Ann Jones of Kingman, Arizona and Wanda
Jones Hassman and husband, Edward of Huntsville,
Texas; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3
great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray Crowl and
wife, Ruby of East Dubuque, Illinois and Phillip Crowl
and wife, Wilma of Humboldt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; sons-in-law, Jim Hrabak and Leroy Jones; one granddaughter, Teresa
Pletcher Backues; and one brother, Robert Crowl.
