Theodore P. "Jr." Frederick
LUZERNE, Iowa - Theodore P. "Jr." Frederick, 71, died
Sunday, May 30, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids from a
brain tumor. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran
Church by Rev. Michael Musick. Burial will be in the church cemetery
with Military Rites. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the
Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine, and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the
church.
He is survived by his wife, Delores; four daughters,
Roxanne (Daniel) Kennedy of Charles City, Angela Rene'e Frederick of
Knoxville, Ramona (Dean) Frein, and Rochelle (Sherman) Welker of
Marshalltown; one son, Pete (Lori) of Blairstown; four sisters, Helen
Persson of Cedar Rapids, Mary Batterson of Wadena, Vera Zuercher of
Strawberry Point, and Virginia Westover of Michigan; Brothers-in-law,
Melvin (Lucy) Anderman of Tampa, Fla.; and Marlan (Anita) Anderman of
Oceanside, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.
A memorial fund has been established.

J. Duane Hebert
J. Duane Hebert, 78, a resident of 1790 Quarry Road,
Charles City, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at the Floyd County Memorial
Hospital in Charles City.
A funeral Mass for James Duane Hebert will be held
10:30 a.m. Friday, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Rev.
Carl Ries, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary
Cemetery. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City
Ceremonial Unit.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in
Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The Rosary will be recited at
4:30 p.m. with a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m. followed by a
Rosary lead by the Knights of Columbus. Visitation will continue at the
church an hour prior to the Mass.
James Duane Hebert was born November 27, 1925, in
Aurora, Kan., the son of Meddie and Blanche (Dandurand) Hebert. He
graduated from Aurora High School in 1944, moved to Charles City with
his family, then enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1945. He served in the
medical corps and was honorably discharged in 1946. He then attended
Loras College in Dubuque, where he received his BA in English and
Spanish. He was employed by International Harvester in the Mason City
district office, was married to Cleo (Staudt) on December 1, 1951, and
in 1953 he and his wife established a home and farming business near
Charles City. In 1963 he began his teaching career at Immaculate
Conception High School teaching Spanish and English, and continued
teaching English at Rockford Senior High School. Upon completion of his
MA in Guidance and Counseling at University of Northern Iowa, he was
employed as a counselor with the Charles City Community School District.
He retired in 1989 after 30 years of work in the education field.
James Duane Hebert was a member of the National
Education Association, the Iowa State Education Association, and the
Charles City Education Association. He was a member of the Elks, the
American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, the Farm Bureau, and was an
active member of the Democratic Party. Also involved in church work, he
served on the Dubuque archdiocese school board for six years, and was an
active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, serving on
the parish council, building committee and serving as a CCD teacher for
many years. He was an avid reader and sports fan, and loved time with
his family at Lake Okoboji.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cleo (Staudt),
his children, Julie Horton, Missoula, Mont., Mary Ellen (William)
Staebler, Columbus, Ohio, Robert, Bloomington, Minn., and Patrice
Hebert, Rochester, Minn. He has one granddaughter, Bristol Horton, of
Missoula, Mont. His siblings who survive him are Armand, Eureka, Calif.,
Maxine Kollman, Iowa City, Bernadine Monaghan, Elma, Feriel (Madlyn),
Del Ray Beach, Fla., Clara Hebert, St. Paul, Minn., James Renae (Ellie),
Marion, Marvin (Gloria), Maple Grove, Minn., and sisters-in-law Mary Ann
Hebert Baldwin, Charles City, Ellen OâConnell, Chicago, Ill., and a
brother-in-law, Leo (Barbara) Staudt, Charles City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a
brother, Eddie Hebert, four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
The family suggests memorials to the Immaculate
Conception Educational Assistance Fund.

Walter Eggers, 96, of 110 Cedar Terrace N., Charles
City, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at the Floyd County Memorial
Hospital, Charles City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday,
June 5, at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Rev. Paul Wilcox,
Trinity United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in
Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at
the Hauser Funeral Home, and will continue for one hour prior to
services on Saturday at Hauser Funeral Home.
Walter Henry Albert Eggers was born November 29,
1907, in Hubbard, Iowa, the son of Herman and Lena (Jague) Eggers. On
February 16, 1929, Walter was united in marriage to Ethel 'Peggy' Pettey
in Mason City. Walter resided in Mason City until the late 1960s when he
moved to Charles City. Walter worked for the railroad, Decker Meat
Packing, the Northwestern Cement Plant, Coniver & Doyle Egg Factory, and
most recently at Ray's Pastime in Charles City. Walter raised birds and
always enjoyed visiting with people, especially his family.
Walter is survived and lovingly remembered by his son
Charles 'Buddy' Eggers of Mason City, his sister Marie Michaelson of
Kanawha; as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren and
great-great grandchildren.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, a son,
three brothers, three sisters and a great-great grandchild.

Greene - Bernard G. (B.G.) Brunsma, 87, of 304 North
Fifth Street, Greene, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at his daughter's
home in Lago Vista, Texas.
Private family graveside services will be held at a
later date at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene. His remains were
cremated.

ROCKFORD - August "Stan" Carter, 88, of 8 S.Summit
Ave. in Nora Springs and formerly of 608 1st Ave., Rockford, died Monday
afternoon, June 7, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason
City.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday,
June 11, at Holy Name Catholic Church, 507 1st Ave. NW in Rockford.
Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Dougherty, with a
luncheon following the burial at St.Patrick's Catholic Church in
Dougherty.
The family will greet friends and relatives from 9:00
to 11:00 a.m. on Friday morning at the church, prior to the service. The

Lyle Boyer, 90, of Charles City, died Tuesday June 8,
2004, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
Funeral services for Lyle Boyer will be held at 10:30

Rausch, pastoral associate of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church,
and Pastor Gale Richards of Colwell United Church of Christ will

Lyle Raymond Boyer was born October 10, 1913, in
Floyd County, the son of Samuel and Mildred (Rice) Boyer. He attended
Floyd County country schools. On January 29, 1935, he was united in
marriage to Arlene Hoisington in Charles City. Lyle was a farmer, a
mechanic, and worked for many years with Floyd County Conservation,
retiring in 1976. He was a member of the National Rifleman's
Association. Lyle's hobbies included hunting, trapping, fishing and
spending time with his cats. He will also be remembered for his
arrowhead collection.
Living family members include three children, Cheryl
(Donald) Meek, Bonnie Johanns, and Raymond (Barb) Boyer all of Charles
City; five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; a great great
granddaughter; and a sister-in-law, Pearl Boyer of Charles City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene
on February 15, 2001; a granddaughter, Jackie Johanns; a son-in-law,
Leonard Johanns; and a brother, Dale Boyer.

Helen Boofer Meerdink
Helen Boofer Meerdink, of Charles City, died Sunday,
June 13, 2004, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.
Funeral services for Helen Meerdink will be held at

Helen Irene Hazelwood Boofer Meerdink was born
December 18, 1919, at Stahl, Mo., the daughter of Jim and Effie (Pearce)
Hazelwood. She received her education in Missouri. On March 26, 1938,
she was united in marriage to Lloyd Boofer in Unionville, Mo. Lloyd was
killed in an airplane accident in August of 1959. Helen married Floyd
Meerdink December 26, 1970, in Charles City. They later divorced. Helen
and Lloyd moved to the Charles City area in March of 1946. Helen worked
as a nurses aide from 1960 to 1970 at Cedar Valley Hospital, later Floyd
County Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Bethany Alliance Church.
Helen will be remembered for her cooking. She would take food to many
friends who were ill, have fun party meals, mystery meals and many
birthday brunches. Helen always liked having a Christmas in July party
and overseeing progressive dinners. Her other interests included
vegetable and flower gardening and quilting. Helen loved her family and
being with them and helping them was always very special.
Living family members include three daughters and
their husbands, Evelyn and Jim Johnson of Elma, Marian and Paul Meerdink
of Charles City, and Betty and Larry Franke of Brandon, SD; seven
grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and four step great
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first
husband, two sisters, Alta Dove and Maggie Hazelwood, and four brothers,
Rollie, Robert and Albert Hazelwood, and Otha Hensley.
Elsie Ruth Franzen
NEW HAMPTON - Elsie Ruth Franzen, 92, of New Hampton,
died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at her home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., today, Monday, May
24, at the Congregational United Church of Christ, New Hampton, with
Pastor Mary Hatch officiating. Jerry Bailey will be organist and
accompany Pete and Phyllis Willadsen singing "The Old Rugged Cross" and
"In The Garden". The congregational hymn will be "Rock of Ages". Burial
will be in the New Hampton City Cemetery with Jim Franzen, Bob Franzen,
Brett Franzen, Steve Moore, Keith Moore and Clyde Smith as casket
bearers.
Visitation was Sunday, May 23, from 3 to 7 p.m., at
the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton, and also one hour
prior to the service at the church today.

WAPELLO -Clayton "Jay" Hawbaker,
62 of Wapello, and formerly of Charles City, died Tuesday, June 15,
2004, at Great River Medical Center in Burlington.
Funeral services have been set for 2 p.m., Friday at
the Winfield United Methodist Church in Winfield, Iowa, with Rev. Joann
Hary officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt.
Pleasant with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. in the evening. A
memorial has been established.
Clayton "Jay" was born December 11, 1941, in Dallas
County to Floyd L. and A. Alene Clayton Hawbaker. He was united in
marriage to Virginia "Ginny" Butcher in 1987 at Burlington. He was a
member of the Winfield United Methodist Church. He was the former owner
of 'The Tomahawk' in Wapello, the 'M&M Grocery Store' in Sunrise Beach,
Mo., retired from White Farm Equipment after 25 years in Charles City
and recently was a self-employed financial investor. He loved hunting,
fishing, gardening, painting (artist) and especially loved his family.
Survivors include his wife "Ginny" of Wapello; his
mother of New London Nursing and Rehab Center; three sons: Jeffrey J.
Hawbaker (Dawn) of Charles City, Bradley Butcher and Daniel (Angi)
Butcher of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Renee Happel of Grimes and Lori
L. Birchfield (Frank) of Swedesburg. Also surviving is one brother, Gary
D. Hawbaker (Sandra) of Boise, Idaho; and three sisters: Jo Thornton
(Larry) of Mt. Pleasant, Pamela J. Rausch (Tom) of Newton and Deane
Holmes of Cedar Rapids. Also six grandchildren survive.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Mavis L. Hauge
Mason City - Mavis L. Hauge, 62, of Thompson, Iowa,
died Monday, June 14, 2004, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in
Mason City, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mavis enjoyed fishing, camping, croteching, tending
to her flowers and spending time with her family whom she loved so much.
Mavis is survived by her special friend, Paul
Henderson; sister, Neta Rae White and special friend Bob Kloster; Evonne
Davis and family; Tonia McFarlen and family; Marvin Mohring Jr. and
family; Aunt, Mardelle Parsons; son-in-law, Jason Jensen; sister-in-law,
Bonnie White; and nephews Aarron, Vince and Tony.
Mavis is preceded in death by her father, Raymond
White; Mother, Fern Loretta (Thomas) Virchow; Stepfather, Loyd Virchow;
Daughters, Mardelle (Gabby) Awe, and Michelle (Awe) Jensen;
Granddaughter, Hailey Ricker; Grandsons, Samuel Ricker Jr. and Jade

ROCKFORD - James (Jim) Lee North, age 77, of
Rockford, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at the Muse Norris
Hospice-Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at the
First United Methodist Church in Rockford, Iowa. Interment will be in
the Osage Cemetery in Osage at 4:30 p.m. with military graveside
services conducted by Osage American Legion Post 278. Visitation is from
5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 702 State St., in
Osage, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will be one hour
before services at the church on Saturday.

Selmer Clarence Nelson
PHOENIX, Ariz. - After several months in a nursing
home, fighting the ravages of age, Selmer Clarence Nelson, Jr., 79, of
Phoenix, Ariz., passed away on May 24, 2004. We speak of men dying
before their time, but this was truly the case. Stories from the
ancients tell of crossing the dark river to the realms of the eternally
blessed. He embarked on the journey, but his time among us appeared so
short. Selmer was a kind man, personable, gentle, and friendly to all.
He was a man of integrity, honesty, and conviction. Well known for his
sense of humor and humility, he was very active in his many circles of
friends, Masons, Shriners, church, and even as a square-dance caller.
During the early 1960s, with the aid of his love of music and his
friendly, outgoing personality, he developed a following while dancing
with the Isaac Squares dance group in Phoenix. Groups from all over
Arizona requested him to call at their events. After he moved from Iowa
to Arizona, the warmth of the sunshine allowed him to spend hours at a
time in the backyard with the grill, massaging the heat from the embers
to create the "perfect" meal. His work in the trades, his attention to
detail and precision and his love of being able to create with his hands
also led to many beautiful projects of which several fine pieces of
woodwork, metalwork, and craft items remain because of his skills.
Selmer was born Jan. 11, 1925, in Mason City, to
Selmer and Mary Nelson. His father, born in Hendricks, Minn., came from
Norwegian ancestors and Mary (Amanda Andersen) emigrated from Denmark in
1921. Selmer graduated from Mason City High School in the Class of '43
and married his "classmate" Ruth Darlene Bartusek, daughter of Thomas
(Tom, a Bohemian immigrant) and Hazel Bartusek, on March 26, 1944, in
Mason City. They filled out the family with Karen Marie Nelson, born
Sept. 26, 1945 - died Sept. 28, 1945; Keith Eugene Nelson, born Dec. 20,
1947; and Sheila Rae Nelson, born Feb. 16, 1950. Selmer worked as a
tinner for Decker's Meats in Mason City and continued on to the Oliver
Farm Equipment plant in Charles City, but the humidity and cold Iowa
winters worsened his already painful arthritis. He was walking with two
canes when he decided to leave them behind as the family moved to a
warm, sunny Phoenix, Ariz., in 1952. He worked as a journeyman
metalworker and tool and die inspector for several years at Goodyear
Aerospace Co. in Goodyear, Ariz., until a plant "slowdown" laid him off.
After the layoff, he went to work for Motorola in Scottsdale where he
worked until his retirement in 1987. Ruth died on Sept. 1, 1963, and
Selmer continued as a single parent with Keith and Sheila, until
marrying Betty (Rust) Anderson in 1967.
Following his retirement from Motorola, he spent
several years as secretary for Scottsdale Masonic Lodge #43 and was also
a very active member of El Zaribah Shrine and Camelback Daylight Lodge
#75.
Selmer is survived by wife, Betty; a son, Keith; one
daughter, Sheila; stepsons Bruce and Bob Anderson; a brother, Dennis
(Denny); and sister Aleda Baldwin and their respective families.
Memorial services were held May 27, 2004, at Paradise
Valley United Methodist Church, where he and Betty had been members for
many years. A favorite old newspaper article gives us the final quote.
"Truly a good, honest, upright citizen has gone from among us."

Marcia Sherwood
Marcia L. Sherwood, 76, of Charles City, died Friday,
June 18, 2004, at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at
Trinity United Methodist Church, with Pastor Gayle Wilcox officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral
Home, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.
Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.
Marcia L. Noice Sherwood was born October 27, 1927,
in Curtis, Neb. and adopted by George and Retha (Campbell) Noice. She
attended school in Scottsdale and Phoenix, Ariz. On August 4, 1945,
Marcia was united in marriage to Don Orin Sherwood at Garfield United
Methodist Church in Phoenix, Ariz. Marcia was a member of Trinity United
Methodist Church, the Pythian Sisters Temple No. 84 and was the pianist
and also held chairs as Guard and Manager, the American Legion Auxiliary
where she was a past President and Vice-President, she was a musician
for the V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Charles City Womens Club Dept. of Home
Life, a member of the church choir, was coordinator of the Meals on
Wheels for Trinity United Methodist Church, and was President of the
United Methodist Women from 1971 to 1973.
Marcia is survived by her children Diana Dunlap of
Tucson, Ariz., Debra (Thomas) Ward of New Boston, Texas, and Gary Lee
Sherwood of Charles City; her grandchildren Crystal (John) Crank of
Texarkana, Ar., and Ryan Ward and Nathan Nehls of New Boston, Texas; and
three great-grandchildren: Lisa and Tyler Clemens and Kaehly Crank. She
is also survived by her sister Genevieve "Jean" Smith of Caldwell,
Idaho; a special nephew Bobby Harwood of Dyersburg, Tenn., and a
half-brother Carl A. Noice of Colorado Springs, Colo., as well as
numerous nieces and nephews.
Marcia was preceded in death by her husband Don, four
brothers, and three sisters.
Memorials may be directed to the Trinity United
Methodist Church Choir/Music Fund.

Russell Wegner
Russell W. Wegner, 80, of 85 Riverside Ave. in
Charles City, died early Saturday morning (June 19, 2004) at the
Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday
at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St. in Charles City
with Rev. David Werges officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside
Memory Gardens in Charles City with military graveside honors provided
by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Russell William Wegner was born November 2, 1923, on
his parent's farm in rural Floyd County. He was the son of Edith (Waidelich)
and Frederick Wegner Sr., and was the oldest of two sons. Russell was
baptized and confirmed at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in
Charles City.
During his youth, Russell developed a close
friendship with the Ross-Zimmerman family, who lived across the road
from his family. He was a member of the graduating class of 1942 at
Charles City High School.
Russell was inducted into the United States Army in
August of 1945, and served his country during WWII, attaining the rank
of Corporal. After honorably and faithfully serving during the conflict,
Russell was formally discharged from his military duties in January of
1947.
Russell met his future wife, Eileen L. Meyer, at the
Reis Caf/ in Charles City and the couple were married on April 3, 1949,
at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ionia. A few months later, Russell
and Eileen traveled to Canada to celebrate a delayed honeymoon. They
moved to a farm in Floyd County, one-half mile from where Russell was
raised. This farm became the family farm and their home until 1989, when
the couple moved into their home in Charles City.
Russell and Eileen enjoyed a busy farm life and
leisurely danced to all types of "old time music." Russell particularly
was known to favor polkas. The family recalls his fondness for games of
cards, such as, pinochle, "500," checkers and euchre.
All who knew Russell were familiar with his love of
the outdoors. He waited anxiously to climb upon his John Deere tractors
and tend to the plantings of his crops in the spring and harvest in the
fall. He also treasured time spent caring for his livestock, fishing in
Canada, vegetable gardening and applauding in the stands for the Charles
City softball teams. Russell was a fan of all sports but favored
watching wrestling, softball and supporting his home state by cheering
on both the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Iowa State Cyclones.
Russell was greatly involved with his community. He
was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, the American
Legion, Farm Bureau, the Moose Lodge, served 15 years on the Farm
Service Co-op Board, six years on the Floyd Co. Pork Producer's Board
and was a 4-H leader for six years.
Russell is described by his family as a very caring,
loving, easy-going and quiet mannered man. Farming, family and his faith
were his passions and he found great peace and pleasure being closely
surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.
Those grateful for having had the privilege of
sharing in Russell's life are his wife of 55 years, Eileen Wegner of
Charles City, his two sons, Duane (Christine) Wegner of Charles City and
Alan (Karen) Wegner of Ionia and his sister-in-law, Betty Wegner of
Clear Lake. He will also be dearly missed by his six grandchildren;
JesseWegner, Tanner Wegner, McKenzie Wegner, Sarah Wegner, Amanda Wegner
and Ryan Wegner. Five of Russell's grandchildren will honor their
grandfather by serving as casketbearers at the funeral. Tanner Wegner
will attend his grandfather's service in spirit as he is currently
serving our country in the United States Air Force and is stationed in
Japan.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his
brother, Frederick Wegner Jr.

James Grimm
James T. Grimm, 80, of 3275 Valley Ave, Orchard, died
Saturday, June 19, 2004 at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles
City.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 22
at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City. Pastor David
Werges will officiate. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
at the Hauser Funeral Home, and will continue for one hour prior to
services at the church. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.
James Thomas Grimm was born May 19, 1924 in Chester,
Iowa, the son of Charles and Caroline (Marik) Grimm He attended school
in Colwell and on August 15, 1943, he was united in marriage to
Annabelle Koebrick at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple
farmed in the Colwell and New Haven areas and Jim also worked at White
Farm, and later as a welder building large gravity bins in Osage. Jim
was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and a member of
the Farm Bureau. Jim enjoyed welding and woodworking, building many
birdhouses. Jim also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins on television,
country music and dancing "The Jig."
Jim is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife

Dr. L. S. Wentworth
MARBLE ROCK: Memorial Masonic Services for Dr. L. S.
Wentworth, longtime Marble Rock Physician, will be 1 p.m. Sunday, June
27, 2004, at the Marble Rock Community Center conducted by Tom
Eggleston, PWGM Grand Lodge of Iowa A. F. & A. M. assisted by members of
Cornerstone Lodge 251 A. F. & A. M. of Marble Rock.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct
memorials to the Dr. L. S. Wentworth Memorial Fund in care of the
family.
Laydon S. Wentworth was born July 11,1908, on a farm
near Plainfield, the only child of Fred and Mary Laydon Wentworth, and
died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The family moved to Nashua where he attended school
and graduated from the Nashua High School in 1925. He graduated from the
University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1931 and served three years
internship at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich.
On July 30, 1929, he was married to Charlotte
Kleinwort at Marengo. To this union were born two sons.
Dr. Wentworth started his practice in Marble Rock on
April 4, 1934. His first office was located above the First Security
Bank on South Main. In 1950 he opened his new office in the house beside
the family home where he continued until his retirement on March 1,
1976. During his practice he delivered over 2,000 babies which included
15 sets of twins.
He was united in marriage to June Leaman on May 7,
1976 at the Church of the Beatitudes in Phoenix, Ariz. They made their
home in Rochester, Minn., during the summer months and in Carefree,
Ariz. .
He was a member of the American Family Practice
Society for 45 years, Iowa State Medical Society, Chief of Staff of the
Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Floyd County Medical Society, Floyd
County Memorial Hospital Association associate of Mercy Hospital in
Mason City, and a member of the American Heart Association. He served on
the Rock School Board for nine years and was President for two years. He
was a charter member of the Marble Rock Lions Club.
Dr. Wentworth has had a life time affiliation and
service to the Masonic Fraternity first beginning as a member of the
Order of Demolay in Charles City. He was initiated, raised, and passed
to the sublime degree of Master Mason on March 22, 1938. He faithfully
served in all the offices of Cornerstone Lodge 251, Marble Rock, where
he received his Fifty Year Certificate in 1988. He served as Masonic
Instructor (1948), District Lecturer (1951), Senior Grand Steward
(1959-60), and Grand Treasurer (1974-75). He served as member of the
Grand Lodge Finance Committee and on the Long Range Planning Committees.
He was a member of Almond Chapter No. 53 R.AM., 50
year member of the Charles City and Cedar Rapids Consistory, A.A.S.R.,
North Iowa Scottish Rite Club, and the River City M.I. & D.L. Club.
Doc had the same passion for his hobbies as he had
for his profession. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and golfer. As a
tribute to his parents, he built and stocked a fish pond on the family
farm in Fremont Township, Butler County. He also developed a game
reserve at the same location. His other interests included baseball,
tennis, woodworking, and for a time he held a private pilot's license.
Living family members include his wife June of
Rochester, Minn.; two sons: Dr. Alan F. (Ruth) Wentworth of Green Bay,
Wisc.; Dean C. Wentworth and his companion Charlotte Owen of Marble
Rock; four grandchildren: Michael (Jeanne) Wentworth of Green Bay, Wis.,
Kathryn Suzanne (Scott) Miller of Lubbock, Texas, Peg Margaret (Michael)
Wolf of Clinton, Iowa, Richard (Seyda) Wentworth of Silver Springs, Md.,
seven great grandchildren: Kathryn, Elizabeth, Merry, Melissa, Benjamin,
Samuel, and Isabel.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Marcia Sherwood
Marcia L. Sherwood, 76, of Charles City, died Friday,
June 18, 2004, at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at
Trinity United Methodist Church, with Pastor Gayle Wilcox officiating.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral
Home, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.
Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.
Marcia L. Noice Sherwood was born October 27, 1927,
in Curtis, Neb. and adopted by George and Retha (Campbell) Noice. She
attended school in Scottsdale and Phoenix, Ariz. On August 4, 1945,
Marcia was united in marriage to Don Orin Sherwood at Garfield United
Methodist Church in Phoenix, Ariz. Marcia was a member of Trinity United
Methodist Church, the Pythian Sisters Temple No. 84 and was the pianist
and also held chairs as Guard and Manager, the American Legion Auxiliary
where she was a past President and Vice-President, she was a musician
for the V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Charles City Womens Club Dept. of Home
Life, a member of the church choir, was coordinator of the Meals on
Wheels for Trinity United Methodist Church, and was President of the
United Methodist Women from 1971 to 1973.
Marcia is survived by her children Diana Dunlap of
Tucson, Ariz., Debra (Thomas) Ward of New Boston, Texas, and Gary Lee
Sherwood of Charles City; her grandchildren Sheila Clemens of Tuxson,
Ariz., Scott (Polly) Clemens of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Crystal (John)
Crank of Texarkana, Ar., and Ryan Ward and Nathan Nehls of New Boston,
Texas; and three great-grandchildren: Lisa and Tyler Clemens and Kaehly
Crank. She is also survived by her sister Genevieve "Jean" Smith of
Caldwell, Idaho; a special nephew Bobby Harwood of Dyersburg, Tenn., and
a half-brother Carl A. Noice of Colorado Springs, Colo., as well as
numerous nieces and nephews.
Marcia was preceded in death by her husband Don, four
brothers, and three sisters.
Memorials may be directed to the Trinity United
Methodist Church Choir/Music Fund.

OSAGE - Mass of Christian Burial for Roberta M.
Pelleymounter, age 78, of Osage, was held Saturday, May 29, 2004 at the
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Rev. Mark Reasoner
officiating. Interment was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Osage.
Roberta was born October 7, 1925, in Colwell, the
daughter of Leo and Minnie (Herzog) Smith. She graduated from Immaculate
Conception High School in Charles City.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her
husband, Robert Pelleymounter, in 1989.
Roberta is survived by four daughters, Ann (Joe)
Longo of Jacksonville, Fla., Carol Newton of Osage, Julie (Jeff)
Voaklander of Osage, and Dawn (Bill) Johanns of New Haven; two sons,
Gregory (Vandy) Pelleymounter of Venice, Fla. and Charles (Cindy)
Pelleymounter of Madison, Wis.; 17 grandchildren; one
great-granddaughter; four sisters, Bernadette Madsen of Long Beach,
Calif., Betty Marth of Charles City, Sharon (Alan) Davidson of Charles

Karl Klages
Karl Klages, 86, a resident of 2925 Hwy 18, Charles
City, died, Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Allen Memorial Hospital in
Waterloo.
Funeral services for Karl Klages will be held at
10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Rev. A.C.
Wegner, pastor of the Faith Bible Chapel, will officiate. Burial will be
in Riverside Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to
8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
Karl Herbrecht Klages was born April 30, 1918, in
Charles City, the son of John and Ella (Herbrechtsmeyer) Klages. He
graduated from the Charles City High School in 1936. For a brief time
Karl worked as a realtor and broker before joining his father and
brother with their farm operation. On August 1, 1987, he was united in
marriage to Francys Nikolas at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They
farmed on the Klages family farm until his death. He is a member of the
Elks Lodge and a 55-year member of the Masonic Lodge. Karl enjoyed
politics and playing the stock market. He was a farmer at heart, raised
Suffolk sheep and collected toy and full sized tractors.
Living family members include his wife, Francys
Klages of Charles City; four step children, Wilma (John) Pulfer of
Phoenix, Ariz., Sharon (Duane) McIntyre of Overland Park, Kan., Dale
(Jan) Ferch of Kechi, Kan., and Michael (Meagan) Ferch of Brooklyn,
N.Y.; seven step grandchildren; nine step great grandchildren; and a
sister, Dorothy (Jack) Weaver of Fargo, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a step son,
David Ferch, and a brother, Ralph Klages.
