Meta Jean (Martinson) Weber, age 40, died Sunday, November 30, 2003, at her home in Osage. Meta was born January 8, 1963, in Osage, the daughter of Alan and Shirley (Ingebritson) Martinson. She graduated from Osage High School in 1981. Meta married Darrell Weber on June 27, 1981 in Osage. To this union two sons were born, Nicholas and Jeffrey. Meta received her nurses training from NIACC graduating in 1991. She was employed as an LPN at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City, Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, and she loved caring for the elderly at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. Meta was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and Our Savior's Bell Choir, MCRHC-Hospital Auxiliary, Osage Fire Department Auxiliary. Meta was a volunteer at the Crisis Intervention Center of North Iowa. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, camping and playing the piano. Meta's family was very important to her, she loved being a mother, and following the activities that her children were involved in.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Dennis Hanson, Rev. Roy Ott, and Rev. Robert Melhorn officiating. Interment will be at the Osage Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins and special friend, Wesley Boman of Forest City.

Harvey C. Hilgendorf, 81, of 506 N. Jackson St., Charles City, died early Friday morning November 28, 2003, at the Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St., Charles City, with Rev . David Werges officiating. Private Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Harvey Carlton Hilgendorf was born in rural Alta Vista, April 18, 1922, one of four children to Rudolph and Frieda (Warnke) Hilgendorf. He attended school North of Alma.

On June 29, 1942 Harvey was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Dvorak in St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Maple Leaf. In the early 1950's Harvey owned and operated Harvey's Seed and Feed in Charles City. Since the late 1950's Harvey had been an Iowa real estate broker. Harvey had been a member of St. John Lutheran Church, a 50-year member of both the Elks and Moose Lodge, Ducks Unlimited, all of Charles City. He was also a life member of the Floyd County Historical Society and a valued member of the Floyd Lions Club. Harvey's interest and leisure activities included being an avid small mouth bass fisherman as well as a great passion for deer and pheasant hunting. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends. Harvey was an avid card player and especially liked the game "Euchre." Harvey played golf and had hit a hole-in-one on hole number 16 at the Country Club in Charles City. Harvey was very proud of his grandchildren and family. Harvey will be best remembered for being loving, caring and giving of himself.

Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in his life are his wife Dorothy of 61 years, his two sons, Jim Hilgendorf and his wife, Judy, of Clear Lake; Bill Hilgendorf and his wife, Mary of Zephyr Cove, Nev.; two grandchildren, Darcy Hilgendorf of Hamburg, NJ; David Hilgendorf of Ames; one sister, Irma Ellner of Waterloo and five step great grandchildren.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Laverne Hilgendorf and one sister, Alean Fisher.

Delores C. Bartman, 82, of 505 1st Ave., Charles City, died early Sunday morning (November 30, 2003) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Delores Caroline Bartman was born July 31, 1921, in Charles City, the daughter of Ralph F. and Elsie (Nehls) Dumont. Delores attended and graduated school in Charles City. On December 23, 1939 Delores was united in marriage to Gilbert L. Bartman in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church at Charles City. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Delores was dedicated and devoted to her faith, she was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church the Trinity Choir and the Belcanto Singers. Some of Delores's interest and leisure activities included cooking, sewing and gardening. She will be best remembered for being a kind and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother and especially enjoyed being the great grandmother for her great grandchildren.

Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in her life are her husband, Gilbert L. Bartman, her daughter, Andrea DeVore and her husband, Jim of Charles City; two grandsons; Kurt DeVore and his wife, Gretchen of Kanawha; Justin DeVore and his wife, Marcia of Charles City; four great grandsons, Timothy, Michael, Zachary and Maxwell DeVore.

Preceding Delores in death are her parents.

Betty (Mrs. Vernon) Thomas, 83, a resident of 2028 Clark Street, Charles City, died Sunday, November 30, 2003, at her home following a six-week illness.

Funeral services for Betty Thomas will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City. Revs. David Werges and Dennis Niezwaag, pastors, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Betty Mae Meyer Thomas was born July 23, 1920, in Charles City's Cedar Valley Hospital, the daughter of Henry and Clara (Weber) Meyer. She graduated from the Floyd High School in 1937. On Aug. 7, 1938, Betty was united in marriage to Vernon "Barney" Thomas. The couple had three children, Terry, Jack and Karen. Betty and Barney were owners and operators of Club Iowa from 1974 to 1984. Betty was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. John's Women's Church Circle (Mary Circle) and Christian Ones. For many years, Betty served on the Floyd County Women's Auxiliary Board and also as a Pink Lady. She was a member of the Charles City Women's Club where she held numerous offices over the years. She was also a member of the Republican Women of Floyd County and the First Citizens National Bank Heritage Club.

She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her daughter, Karen Thomas of Charles City; her grandchildren, Travis Thomas of Floyd, Dara (Troy) Jaeger of Charles City, and Leslie Thomas of Ft. Collins, Colo.; her sister Joyce (Lavern) Sigler of Floyd; four great grandsons; six nieces; two nephews; and her many friends.

Preceding Betty in death are her husband, Vernon O. Thomas, her son, Terry N. Thomas, his son Spencer M. Thomas all on March 3, 1985, her son Jack R. Thomas on June 18, 1972, and her parents.

Irene Margaret Bonzer, 79, of Nora Springs formerly of Nashua passed away Saturday morning, November 29, 2003, at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs.

Irene was born April 17, 1924, on a farm in Floyd County, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mary K. (Wagner) Litterer. She attended rural country schools and graduated from the eighth grade. She was united in marriage to Stanley Bonzer on Feb. 24, 1948, in Girard, Iowa. To this union two sons were born. They lived on farms in Chickasaw and Floyd Counties from 1948 to 1974. She was a member of the Hobby Club and Neighbors Card Club. Irene started taking care of her parents in their home in 1974. She became a resident at Liberty Square in Nora Springs in 1993. After suffering a fall, she moved to the Nora Springs Care Center in Dec. of 2001.

She is survived by one son, William (Linda) Bonzer of Rolla, Mo.; three sisters: Florence Hanson of Greene, Esther (Maynard) Sautter of New Brighton, Minn,. and Audie (Keith) Zurcher of Greene; two grandsons: Shane (Amy) Bonzer and Ryan (Amanda) Bonzer; three great-grandchildren: Collin, Peyton and Madison.

Irene was preceded in death by her son, Gary Bonzer on Aug. 20, 1974, her parents; one sister, Eleanor Reints.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at St. John's United Church of Christ/Pleasant Hill, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, both in rural Nashua. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Kimberly Mead, 47, a resident of 1115 Main Street, Osage, died Friday, November 28, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Memorial services for Kimberly Mead will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Rev. Lynn Weidman will officiate.

Kimberly Elaine Turner Mead Gogg was born Feb. 7, 1956, in Florence, Ariz., the daughter of Bud and Dorothy (Nelson) Turner. She received her education at Mesa High School, Mesa, Ariz. On July 4, 1988, she was united in marriage to Larry Gogg at Humboldt, Iowa. She was employed at Servicemaster of Mason City. Kimberly enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time with her family and friends. She was also known for being a very caring person as evidenced in her helping people of all types.

Living family members include her husband, Larry Gogg of Osage; two sons, James Tonelli and Jesse Mead, both of Osage; four grandchildren, Amanda, Tyler and Brady Tonelli, and unborn grandson Jonathan Mead; her mother, Dorothy (Kenneth) Morris of Mesa, Ariz.; a brother, Jim (Carol) Turner of Mesa, Ariz.; a nephew, Jayme (Michelle) Turner of Mesa, Ariz.; and two nieces, Trina and Katie Turner of Mesa, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her father, and a sister, Carolyn Turner.

Wilhelm "Willie" Friedsam, 81, a resident of 810 9th Street, Charles City, was received to glory on November 28, 2003.

Funeral services for Willie Friedsam will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd. Rev. Paul Phillips, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Wilhelm Julius Friedsam was born April 12, 1922, at Sibiu, Romania, the son of Wilhelm and Therese (Sonnleitner) Friedsam. He received his education in Romania, where he also attended business school. At the age of 17, Willie accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior and was baptized. He would, throughout his life, endeavor to serve his Lord. On Dec. 10, 1950, he was united in marriage to Katharina Schmahl at Salzburg, Austria. Through the sponsorship of Dr. and Mrs. J. E. Salsbury and the First Baptist Church of Charles City, it was made possible for them to come and start a new beginning at Charles City in 1955. They lived with Dr. and Mrs. Salsbury for three years before moving to their own home. Willie worked in the Pharmaceutical Production Department of Salsbury Laboratories. He was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church, the Senior Citizens Center, YMCA Fountain of Youth, and had served as a Hospice Volunteer. Willie always took special interest in attending community affairs. He always desired to serve his Lord and did so by participating in the services or functions of many of the churches in Charles City. Willie will always be remembered for his willingness to use his musical talents in playing the violin. The violin always went with him and he was always ready to play and share a meditation.

Living family members include his wife, Katharina Friedsam of Charles City; a brother Johannes (Dorothea) Friedsam of Holzgerlingen, Germany; four sisters, Gertrude (Martin) Krafft of Leonberg, Germany, Adelheid (Friedrich) Teutsch of Sindelfingen, Germany, Anneliese Friedsam of Holzgerlingen, Germany and Hedwig Friedsam of Leonberg, Germany; a brother-in-law, John Schmaehl of Kamiah, Idaho; a niece, Brigitte (Philipp) Roland of Osage; a nephew, Harty (Marjorie) Schmaehl of Kamiah, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents and a brother, Otto Friedsam, preceded him in death.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the Gospel Lighthouse Academy.

Diane R. (Koebrick) Christie, 48, of Charles City, died Wednesday evening, November 26, 2003, at her home after a battle with cancer.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, December 3, at the Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City, with Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Diane Rae (Koebrick) Christie was born May 30, 1955, in Charles City, the daughter of Donald and Bonnie (Tibbetts) Koebrick. Diane enjoyed playing bingo, watching the Animal Planet on TV, shopping at local thrift stores, collecting Bald Eagle figurines and pictures, in addition to spending time with her family, friends and fianc/. Diane's greatest joy was loving her children and grandchildren.

Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Diane's life include her children, Adam G. Christie and his wife, Cindy, and their son, Jared, of Garner; Angela A. Victoria Winterink, 87, a resident of 2175 Vista Lane, Charles City, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services for Victoria Winterink will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Charles City. Rev. Paul Wilcox, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Victoria E. Pearson Winterink was born April 9, 1916, in Madrid, Iowa, the daughter of Victor and Ellen (Sundberg) Pearson. Victoria graduated from Madrid High School in 1934 and later graduated from Iowa State University in 1938. She worked in St. Paul, Minn. at the University Hospital for her internship and from there became the first dietician at the Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City. Victoria was united in marriage to Russell C. Winterink on November 9, 1941, in her parents home in Madrid. The couple farmed east of Charles City. Victoria was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the East Saint Charles Women's Group, and was very active in support of Charles City High School Athletics. She was an excellent cook and loved to garden, but time spent with her family was always most important.

Victoria is survived and lovingly remembered by her son Bob Winterink and his wife Naomi of Charles City; her grandchildren, Roby Winterink and his wife Tara, Michael Winterink and his wife Carla, Shelly Dockendorf and her husband Brodie, and Kimberly Kellogg and her husband Doug, all of Charles City; two step-grandchildren Penny Holt and Troy Holt; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister Eloise Pearson of Madrid, and a sister-in-law Francis Pearson of Story City; and two nephews, Victor Pearson and his wife Diane of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Vern Pearson and his wife Jeanie of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Victoria was preceded in death by her husband Russell, her parents, one sister Elizabeth Pearson, one brother Eldon Pearson, and one grandson Jody Winterink.

Willis E. Smith, 85, of Charles City, died Monday, December 1, 2003, at the Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City, Rev. Paul Phillips will officiate. Willis Eugene Smith was born April 26, 1918, in Charles City, the son of Millard H. and Florence (Weston) Smith. Willis attended school in Charles City. Willis was united in marriage to Annette Smith in 1975 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked as a cabinet maker for the George P. Smith Co. and for the Fisher Co., as well as working as a carpenter for various construction companies. Willis was a member of the Moose Lodge. He was a gifted wood worker and loved the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Willis is survived by his wife Annette Smith, his children: Nancy Rosonke and her husband Don, Barbara Rice and her husband Ron, Janet Vokes and her husband Bill, Millard Smith and his wife Patty, and April Rusch and her husband Jeff; two step-children, Robert Krumrey and his wife Kathy, and Linda Litterer and her husband Merlin; three brothers, Roger Smith of Minnesota, Carl Smith of California, and Gordon Smith of Arizona; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Willis was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother Weston, his brother Mike, and a step daughter Barbara Lovik.

Atona Jean Marie Flores, 22, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Sunday, November 30, 2003, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. She died as a result of injuries incurred when the car in which she was a passenger struck a deer 17 miles north of Cedar Rapids.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island, Ill. Entombment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 12-3 p.m. Friday and one-hour before the service on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the family. Additionally, a memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Orchard Hill Reformed Church in Cedar Falls.

Atona was born August 21, 1981 in Davenport, Iowa. the daughter of Romaldo and Sheila Kirksey Flores. She grew up in the Quad City area and attended Moline High School where she received the 'Best Dressed' award. Prior to this she was a cheerleader at John Deere Junior High, Moline.

She enjoyed being with her friends, dancing, playing volleyball at the 'Y' and camping with her friends. She was currently attending Hawkeye Community College, where she was studying dental hygiene. She was working part-time in shipping and receiving at Martin Brothers in Cedar Falls.

She was an organ donor.

Atona is survived by her mother, Sheila Kirksey, and her companion, Andrew Clay, both of Charles City; father, Romaldo Flores, and his wife Gloria of Moline; maternal grandmother, Sharon Kirksey, San Antonio, Texas; paternal grandparents, Maria de Jesus Flores and Merced F. Puga and paternal great-grandmother, Consepsion Puga, all of El Potrero, Mexico; half-sisters Sadie Burtchett and Katie Clay, both of Charles City, and Karina Flores, Moline; half-brothers, Devin Clay, Charles City and Santiago Flores, Moline; aunts, Dolores Flores and Guadalupe Flores, both of Moline; uncles Mel Kirksey, Davenport, and Bill Kirksey, East Moline; and her significant other, Josh Luchtenburg, son of Cindy and Mark Luchtenburg, all of Cedar Falls.

Clara L. Putney, 90, of Charles City, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at the Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.

Clara L. Parker Putney was born November 20, 1913, in Charles City, the daughter of Ray and Altha (Phillips) Parker. She attended school in Charles City, and on April 19, 1930, Clara was united in marriage to Herman Putney in Charles City. Clara and Herman were married for 66 years. Clara was a member of the V.F.W in Charles City. She enjoyed sewing and embroidery, and was an excellent cook. Clara also loved time spent traveling with her husband, and always found time to help baby-sit her grandchildren.

Clara is survived by her children: James Putney and his wife Arlene of Wichita Falls, Texas, Herman Putney Jr. of Charles City, Jack Putney and his wife Denise of Barnum, Minn., Gene Putney and his wife Marilyn of Barnum, Minn., Ray Putney and his wife Mona of Charles City, Glen Putney and his wife Sarah of Charles City, Donna Starkey of Mason City, Linda Boehmer and her husband Tim of Glendale, Ariz., and Joe Putney and his wife, Ellen, of Garner; 43 grandchildren, as well as many great and great-great grandkids.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a daughter Juanita, a son-in-law Clyde Starkey, a daughter-in-law Donna Putney, four grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

Roger Franklin Chesnut was born in Rudd April 14, 1925, the son of Frank Mason and Lula Beth (Wagner) Chesnut. He attended school in Rudd and Floyd. Roger had enlisted into the U.S. Navy, honorably and faithfully serving in the South Pacific during World War II. On January 15, 1947, Roger was united in marriage to Arlene N. Logan. Roger was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the V.F.W., both of Charles City. Roger retired from Oliver-White in Charles City, after 30 years of service. He was a farmer, skilled carpenter and woodworker.

Roger's interest and leisure activities included spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. He enjoyed camping, fishing and listening to bluegrass music. Roger was very proud of his family. Roger will be best remembered for being loving, caring and giving of himself.

Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in his life are his wife Arlene, his three children, Carlene Wolf and her husband, Doug of Charles City; Gary Chesnut and his wife Bonnie, of Omaha, Neb.; Doug Chesnut and his wife Dolly of Iowa City; eight grandchildren, Mike Borchard, Jeff Borchard, Jennifer Chesnut, Nic Chesnut, Kelli Chesnut, Ben Chesnut, Carissa Chesnut and Lynsey Chesnut; two great grandchildren, Matthew Borchard and Audrey Borchard; one sister, Marlys Hodina and her husband, Stanley of Floyd; one brother, Donald Chesnut and his wife, Zona of Horatio, Ark., and two brothers-in-law, Harold Teeple and Willard Ryner of Nora Springs.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Lucille Teeple and Shirley Ryner.

ROCKFORD - Ivan G. Wallbaum, 91, of 105 4th St. NW, Rockford, died early Thursday morning (December 4, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, 205 1st Ave. NW in Rockford with the Rev. Kenneth Kent officiating. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, with military graveside honors provided by the Walker-Graper Post 338.

The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Fullerton-Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 W. Main St. in Rockford and will continue at the church, one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Those wishing to extend memorials or expressions of sympathy may direct them to the Ivan G. Wallbaum Memorial Fund, in the care of his daughter, Joan Wicklund, 2797 N. 2nd St., North St. Paul, Minn 55109.

Ivan George Wallbaum was born June 4, 1912, in Charles City, IA to George F. and Bessie M. (Gettamey) Wallbaum. He was the first child of four children born to his parents and attended and graduated from Rudd High School. During his youth, he assisted his parents on the family farm.

Following high school, Ivan was inducted into the United States Navy and served his country during W.W.II. as a Seabee. After honorably and faithfully serving his country, Ivan was formally discharged from his military duties.

Ivan met his future wife, Merle Sharp at an ice cream social in Marble Rock and the couple married on October 5, 1943, in Rhode Island. Ivan and Merle enjoyed square dancing together, fishing and spending time at Sabre Lake in Minnesota. The couple became the proud parents of three children. Many memories were created while traveling on their family vacations. They visited most of the states in the U.S. and during their travels, Ivan's daughters recall that their father claimed to "never get lost," even though many times they actually knew that he was.

Ivan was a lifelong resident of the Rockford area and was employed for many years as a lead mechanic for Rockford Brick and Tile and also worked for Crowell Body Shop in Rockford.

Ivan took great pride in providing for his family and treasured visits from his daughters. Judy and Joan describe their father as strong-willed, very knowledgeable about many subjects, honest and a man of high integrity. Ivan had a passion for learning all he could about world affairs and geography.

Ivan will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his two daughters, Judy Roberts of Seattle, Wash., and Joan Wicklund and her husband, James of North St. Paul, Minn.; one sister, Lucile Andersen and her husband, Myron of Houston, Texas; and one brother, Willis Wallbaum and his wife Dorthea of Centerville, Ohio. He will also be sadly missed by his five grandchildren, Alan and Angela Roberts and Michael, Heather and Robert Wicklund and his three great-granchildren, Tiffany, Courtney and Brittany Roberts.

Preceding Ivan in death are his wife, Merle in 1971, his son, Alan Wicklund in 1955, his parents, George and Bessie Wallbaum and his sister, Ruth Mars.

ROCKFORD - Raymond C. Leider, 81, of Rockford, died Sunday morning, December 7, 2003, at his home.

Services will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at Sunnyside Chapel, Charles City, with Rev. A. C. Wegner, officiating. Military rites will be conducted by The Charles City Ceremonial Unit, burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. today, Tuesday, December 9, 2003, at Sunnyside Chapel Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service.

Raymond was born the son of Frank and Minnie "Barth" Leider on August 3, 1922 at Roseville, Iowa.

Mr. Leider served in the U.S. Army during WWII and on November 6, 1948, he was united in marriage to Gladys Willsher at Albert Lea, Minn. Raymond was a farmer and also worked at Jacob E. Decker Co. for 26 years.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys; four sons: Jim (Sally) of Mason City, Joe of Rockford, John (JoElla) of Rockford, and Larry of Mason City; one daughter Judy (Michael) Parker of Rockford; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Bernadene Reams.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Grace Zimmer, 86, a resident of 220 South Locust, New Hampton, died Saturday, December 6, 2003 at her home.

Funeral services for Grace Zimmer will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. The Rev. Gregory Ellcey, pastor of the First Congregational Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Beckwith Cemetery, rural Colwell.

Grace Marvel Monsen Zimmer was born November 3, 1917, at Veblen, SD, the daughter of George and Gunda (Johnson) Monsen. She graduated from Veblen High School. Grace was united in marriage to Delbert Zimmer. They lived in the Colwell area until they retired from farming at which time they moved to Pennsylvania for several years and then moved to New Hampton. She enjoyed living on the farm. Time spent with the grandchildren was always very special to her.

Living family members include her husband, Delbert Zimmer of New Hampton; a son, D. Gene Zimmer of Charles City; a daughter, Dorlean (Walter) Marshall of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two grandchildren; and two brothers, Magner (Dorothy) Monsen, and George (Doris) Monsen both of Custer, S.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Walter, Lloyd, Artic "Red," and Arnold Monsen; and a sister, Gladys Troutner.

Donald P. Ritter, 82, a resident of 2578 280th Street, Greene, died Tuesday, December 9, 2003, at his home.

A funeral Mass for Donald P. Ritter will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Post 6792 of Nashua.

NASHUA - Helen L. (Trepton) Snider, 83, of Oconomowoc, Wis., formerly of Nashua, passed away Tuesday morning, December 9, 2003, in her home at Shorehaven Towers in Oconomowoc.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, December 13, 2003, at the United Methodist Church with burial at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Nashua. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to services on Saturday at the United Methodist Church. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.

Helen was born May 31, 1920, at Ionia, the daughter of Porter and Minnie (Boice) Hinmon. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1938 and attended Wartburg College. She was united in marriage to Harry Trepton in 1963. To this union three children were born. Following his death, Helen went back to Wartburg College and received her teaching degree. She taught at Plainfield for two years before starting at Nashua where she taught for 17 years before retiring. In 1976, she married Cliff Snider. He passed away on July 3, 1983. Helen moved to Oconomowoc in 1998. She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church and did much volunteer work in her community. Helen enjoyed quilting, knitting, traveling with her family and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

She is survived by one son, David (Karen) Trepton of Oconomowoc, Wisc.; two daughters: Mary Ellen Jezoski of Kauauna, Wisc. and Ruth Ann (Ken) Goings of Elkader; two step-sons: Cliff "CH" (Kay) Snider of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Gary (Eileen) Snider of Forest City, Ark..; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry P. Trepton, in 1963; her second husband, Cliff Snider, in 1983; her parents; two sisters: Leona Bennor and Madge Hinmon.

Donald Patrick Ritter was born November 24, 1921, at New Hampton, the son of Leo and Marcella (Conley) Ritter. He graduated from the Nashua High School. Don served in the United States Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, and the Combat Infantryman Badge with two bronze campaign stars. Upon returning home he continued farming and working with horses. On February 11, 1950, he was united in marriage to LaVonne Buttjer at Mason City. They farmed for over 50 years at the present farm where Don was residing at the time of his death. He also retired as a meat inspector for the state of Iowa. Working with horses was his passion. He raised registered paint horses in addition to spotted draft horses. Don, LaVonne and their children were active member of the Nashua Trail Riders Club for many years. Through out the summer he was also known for his 4-horse paint hitch and hundred year old Saint Paul fire hose wagon that he owned. This was used in numerous parades and for all types of celebrations and occasions in primarily a six county area. His appreciation for paint horses was key to his beginning of breeding them to this day. His many contributions included helping youth riders including the 4-H horse exhibitors of the Floyd County Fair where he also served as horse show judge. He was instrumental in creating interest in bringing back the draft horse show at the Big Four Fair at Nashua when interest had dwindled with the introduction of tractors replacing draft horses on the farm. At that time he showed Belgian drafts at the fair. Following that he was an exhibitor o Charlois cattle and paint horses for several years. On his 80th birthday he was recognized for having only missed one Waverly Iowa Horse Sale for 50 years. Don's last accomplishment was plowing at the State Line Plowing Contest at LeRoy, Minn., on September 20, 2003, with his sported draft horses. He was a member of the North American Spotted Draft Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, and State Line Horse Plowing Association. Other interests included dancing, listening to polka music and watching westerns.

He is survived by two sons, Donald P. Ritter II of Newnan, Ga., and Douglas Ritter of Greene; two daughters, Diane and Darla Ritter, both of Greene; three grandchildren, Bethany and Megan Wihlm, and Daylene Ritter; three brothers, Wallace Ritter of Greene, Paul (Jackie) Ritter of Colwell and Roger (Pat) Ritter, Charles City; two brothers-in-law, James Sweet and Sidney Stoffel, both of California; and a sister-in-law, Elaine Ritter of Oak Creek, Wisc.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters, Joane Sweet and Donna Stoffel, and a brother, Richard Ritter.

LITTLE CEDAR - Charles Petefish, age 81, of rural Little Cedar, died Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2003, at the Little Cedar United Methodist Church in Little Cedar. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery with Military Rites by Stacyville American Legion Post 569. The Champion - Bucheit Funeral home, Osage, is in charge of the arrangements.

Lillian Jacobs, 90, a former resident of 809 Allison Street, Charles City, died Thursday, December 11, 2003, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Lillian Jacobs will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Bishop Christopher Billings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Mason City, will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua.

The family will greet friends at the funeral home an hour prior to the service.

Lillian Beatrice Peterson Jacobs was born June 15, 1913, on the family farm near Nashua, the daughter of Bartlett and Sarah (Hicks) Peterson. She received her education from a country school near Nashua. On November 10, 1962, she married John Jacobs at Ft. Bragg, Calif. Except for seven years in California, Lillian spent all of her life in this area. Lillian led a life of service to her friends and family. Although for much of her past years she had serious health problems she never complained and it never kept her from serving others although it must have been very difficult at times. Because of her wonderful acts of charity her family and friend are comforted to know that she is with her Father in Heaven. She was a Christian in every respect. Many stories have already been recounted about her numerous acts of kindness. She would walk to the grocery store despite her own personal health problems, to buy groceries from her limited income for neighbors and the needy. She would walk to the nursing home and read Bible stories to the residents. She cared for her mother for many years when she herself probable needed help at times. She loved her beautiful garden and would share her flowers with everyone to brighten their days. For years she sent birthday cards of cheer to members of her church even though she could not always attend church due to her health. Her acts of kindness will be missed by many. Her hobbies included gardening, puzzles, coloring, charitable service and spending time with her friends and family. She often shared with her friends, with tears in her eyes, how she missed attending church and how special it was to have friends from church visit her and bring her a little bit of heaven here on earth. She really looked forward to have Christmas Eve dinner with friends from church.

Living family members include a sister, Marguerite Curtis of Charles City; three stepsons of California; five nieces, Joy Osteen of Schertz, Texas, Terri (Paul) Kidd of LaJolla, Calif., Barbara (Charles) Greaser of Harelysville, Penn, Sheila ( Lewis) Wright of North Liberty, and Mary Jo (Tom) Donohoe of Davenport; two nephews, Gary (Alfie) Blanchard of Boston, Mass., and Roger (Marcia) Blanchard of Lee's Summit, Mo.; two great nephews, Jeffrey (Laurie) Lackore of Joplin, Mo., and Robert Kidd of LaJolla, Calif., and many other great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her parents, husband, and two sisters preceded her in death.
