Gayle Clammer, 86, of
Charles City, died July 28, 2003, at Floyd County Memorial
Hospital of natural causes.
There will be no funeral or graveside services. She will be
cremated and buried at a later date at Riverside Cemetery next
to her husband, Corliss.
Gayle was born in
Forest City to John and Blanche (Arnold) Souls, May 26, 1917.
Gayle and Corliss Clammer were married October 17, 1942 in
Albert Lea, Minn. when Corliss was home on furlough from the
military. She moved to California to live with her sister and
she worked as a telephone operator in Santa Monica. After the
war, Corliss and Gayle came to Charles City and she worked for
Bea's Shop for 10 years.
She is survived by two sons, Steve Clammer of Ft. Worth, Texas
and Mark (Janet) Clammer of Flagstaff, Arizona; 3 sisters, Ann
of Charles City, Mildred of Nebraska and L. Maxine of
California; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Pett of Waterloo and
Wilma Clammer of Charles City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Corliss;
and two brothers.

John H. Revland, Sr., 89, of
1301 Missouri Ave., Charles City, died Monday afternoon, July
28, 2003, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2003,
at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City,
with the Rev. David A. Werges officiating. Interment will be at
Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.
The family will greet
friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2003, and will
continue one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral
home.

Sr. Memorial Fund.
John Helmer Revland, Sr. was born February 14, 1914 on the
family farm in Winnebago County near Forest City to Martin and
Paulina (Cleveland) Revland. He was the 16th child of 17
children born to his parents. At the age of 14, John assisted
area farmers and relatives as a farm hand. He was always known
as a hard worker throughout his life. After joining and working
for a road construction crew for a few years, John became
employed by the Civilian Conservation Corp where he was
instrumental in carving trails into the Arkansas wooded areas
for access should there be a fire. Following his work with the
C.C.C., John was united in marriage to Dorothy Jean Bahling on
June 30, 1942 in LeGrand, IA. From 1942 until 1947, John helped
the construction crew he was working for, build the Julian
Dubuque Bridge, John Deere Company and a telephone company, all
in Dubuque, IA. His love of spending time outdoors was evident
as he moved to Mount Vernon in 1947 to work as a maintenance
laborer at Palisades-Kepler State Park. John moved to the
Charles City area in 1949 when he joined the construction
maintenance team at Oliver Corporation (currently known as White
Farm) and retired from his position in 1976. John took great
pride in providing for his family as he was also an accomplished
self-employed cement finisher and bricklayer.
John lovingly treasured the time he spent with his family and
friends. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran
Church, a member of the United Auto Workers Union and belonged
to the Eagles in Dubuque. He found great pleasure in traveling
extensively with Dorothy on vacation bus trips, daily card games
of two-handed ã500,ä tending to his pet cat, Bud, socializing
with friends and bowling in his earlier years. John had a great
passion for spending as much time as possible outdoors and
enjoyed vegetable gardening and meticulously grooming his lawn
and home.
John will be missed dearly by all who have shared in his life.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of 61 years; his daughter,
Judy Hickle and her husband, Gary of Floyd; his son, John
Reveland, Jr., and his wife, Jenean of Charles City; one
granddaughter, Jessica Reveland of West Des Moines; two
grandsons, Allan Reveland of Boise, ID and Curtis Hickle and his
wife, Tracy of Groton, CT; three great-granddaughters, Katie,
Mattie and Ellie Hickle of Groton, CT; and one sister, Gladys
Hagen of Cincinnati, OH. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and
other relatives and friends, will also sadly miss him.
Preceding John in death were his parents and fifteen brothers
and sisters.
Virginia Bumbarger, 91,
formerly of Charles City died on July 24, 2003, in Memphis,
Tenn. She was married to Paul R. Bumbarger, editor and publisher
of the Charles City Press from 1946-1963. After living in
Charles City, Virginia and Paul moved to Sikeston, Mo., where
Paul was editor of the Sikeston Standard until his retirement.
The couple moved to Memphis, Tennessee, in 1989.
Virginia was born on April 21, 1912, to the late Cary and
Roberta Whitehead of West Point, Miss.. She graduated from West
Point High School and the University of Kentucky. She married
Paul Bumbarger in West Point on June 15, 1934. Mr. Bumbarger
preceded Virginia in death on June 11, 1999.
Survivors included:
one daughter and son-in-law, Janet Bumbarger Van Doren, who
graduated from Charles City High School in 1959, and Barclay Van
Doren of Cameron, Mont.; two grandchildren Clay Van Doren and
Dr. Virginia Cary Van Doren of Denver, Colo., three
great-grandchildren Madison, Caelen Paul and Hayden Van Doren,
all of Denver; and one brother, Cary Whitehead of Como, Miss.
Burial was in Sikeston, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be
sent to Hunter Memorial Presbyterian Church, 723 Allen Blvd.,
Sikeston, Mo. 63801.

for Earl J. Herman, 83, of 409 North Fifth Street, Greene, will
be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic
Church in Greene with Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Reid's Funeral
Chapel in Greene where there will be a Scriptural Wake Service
at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Church one hour before
the Mass.
Earl John Herman was
born October 29, 1919, in rural Union Township, near Roseville,
Floyd County, a son of Peter Joseph and Mary Catherine
(Sinnwell) Hermann, and died Friday, August 1, 2003, at North
Iowa Mercy East Campus in Mason City.
He received his education in the rural Floyd County Schools and
attended the Sacred Heart Academy in Greene. As a young man he
farmed with his father. On February 6, 1943, he was united in
marriage to Shirley Ann Smith at the Immaculate Conception
Church in Charles City. Earl and Shirley farmed in the Greene
area for 42 years before retiring and moving into town.
Earl's interests included shooting pool, playing cards, fishing
in Canada and deer hunting. He was always willing to help out at
the Fish Frys at the Church and with the Sportsman's Club. He
will be remembered giving rides to people in town with his
Hackney Trotter and painted buggy. He was an accomplished
Harmonica Player who enjoyed giving concerts to those wanting to
listen, and was awarded third place in the Harmonica Contest at
the Iowa State Fair in 2002.
Those thankful for having shared this life of such a good and
honest man include his loving wife of sixty years: Shirley of
Greene; his children: Carol (Jim) Weaver of Rockwell, Beverly
(Gary) Boveia of Waverly, Connie (Doug) Litterer of Greene,
Ronnie (Kathy) Herman of Greene; ten grandchildren: Sara
Adelmund, Tracy Martzahn, Kristy Hovde, Michele Casey, Brenda
Reed, Chad Herman, Andres Herman, Shawn Litterer, Tony Boveia,
Joe Boveia; seven great-grandchildren; one sister: Catherine
Wefel of Waverly; and sister-in-law: Deon Herman of Osage.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Delores
Herman, Irene Uetz, Bernice Metz; one brother: Art Herman; and
grandson: Derek A. Herman.

KIMBERLING CITY, Mo. - Rev.
Vernal R. Hamilton, Kimberling City, Missouri, son of Richard
and Glee (Schooler) Hamilton was born July 27, 1921, in Casper,
Wyoming and departed this life August 1, 2003, in Skaggs
Community Hospital, Branson, Missouri at the age of 82 years and
five days.
Vernal was united in marriage to Aline Persell-Caselman,
February 20, 1943, and to this union two children were born.
Aline and Vernal had made their home in the area the past three
years coming from Unionville, Missouri. Rev. Hamilton was a
retired minister, singer and songwriter.
Survivors include his
wife, Aline; two daughters, Donna Kay Billingslea and her
husband John of Glencoe, Ok., and Anita Pauline Kidd and her
husband James of Kimberling, Mo.; seven grandsons: James (Carol)
Billingslea of Sand Springs, Ok., Marshall (Tasha) Billingslea
of Enid, Ok., Clint (Becky) Billingslea of Glencoe, Ok., Kevin
(Pam) Slinger of Waverly, Rick (Tina) Slinger of Charles City,
Paul Slinger of Des Moines, and Dr. Anthony (Carol) Slinger of
Charles City; 19 great-grandchildren: Amanda, John, Tyler, Jake,
Alexus, Kayla, Dylon, Amanda, Ian, Taylor, Tanner, Micah, Nick,
Dara, Cody, Brooke, Faith, Colton and Hope.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., today, August 5, in
Ozark Mountain Assembly of God, Kimberling City, Mo., with the
Rev. Manuel Shoults officiating. Burial, with fully military
honors, will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Mo.,
under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home-South, Kimberling

AUSTIN, Minn. - JoAnn Jean
Tuttle, age 71, of Austin, Minn., died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at
the Austin Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 20, 1931, in Worthing, S.D., to Paul and Mary
(Cairy) John. She married Kenneth Tuttle on Aug. 23, 1952, at
the United Methodist Church in St. Croix Falls, Wis. She worked
as part of the support staff at Burr Oak Manor for 17 years.
JoAnn was a member of
Crane Community Chapel, enjoyed shopping, collecting Precious
Moment and other dolls and gambling.
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday Aug. 6, 2003, at
1:30 p.m. at Crane Community Chapel with the Rev. Randy Petersen
officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery in
Austin. Visitation was held at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Tuesday
from 4 to 8 p.m. and will be Wednesday at the church for one
hour before the service.
She is survived by: husband, Kenneth Tuttle of Austin, Minn.;
sons and daughters-in-law, Neil and Cathy Tuttle of Orchard,
Wayne and Lucy Tuttle of Minot, N.D., Bradley and Lisa Tuttle of
Austin, Minn.; daughter and son-in-law, LuAnne and Gary Betcher
of Stewartville, Minn.; 11 grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren; sister, Luella Olson of Custer, S.D.;
brother and sister-in-law, Arden and Helen John of North Branch,
Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Everil
Glovka, and her grandson Brian Tuttle.

Mary Walk, 81, a resident of

Mary Micich Walk was born February 7, 1922, at Charles City, the
daughter of Luka and Jilia (Kobacevich) Micich. She graduated
from the Charles City High School. On December 24, 1942, she was
united in marriage to John Walk at the Little Brown Church in
Nashua. Mary worked for several years as a linotype operator in
the 1940's. Antiques were interesting to Mary with her specialty
being dolls of all sizes. Mary also enjoyed animals.
Living family members include her son, David (Phyllis) Walk of
Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Robert Micich and Lozo (Connie)
Micich both of Charles City; and a sister, Dorothy, (Novak)
Micich of Warren, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Diane
Walk, and three brothers, George, Michael, and Luka Micich.
ALDEN, Iowa - Marie
Peterson, 91, of Alden, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at
Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services
will be Friday, August 8, at 10 a.m. at St. John's United
Methodist Church, Radcliffe, with burial in the Alden Cemetery
in Alden.

69, a resident of 1608 Missouri Avenue, Charles City, died
Thursday, August 7, 2003, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital
in Charles City.
Funeral services for 'Pat' Schwartzkopf will be held at 10:30
a.m. Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. The Rev.
David Kramer, pastor of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church,
Nashua, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery,

Mass for Lillian V. Schmitt, 82, Charles City, formerly of
Marble Rock, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, 2003,
at St. Mary's Catholic Church at Roseville, rural Marble
Rock, with Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial
will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation was held Sunday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in
Marble Rock where a scriptural wake service was held.

hour before Mass.
Lillian Viola
Bogges was born Sept. 8, 1920, in rural Chickasaw County, a
daughter of Calvin and Mabel (Frazee) Bogges, and died
Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at the Heritage Care Center, Mason
City.
She received her education at the Deerfield Township School
and as a young lady worked as a housekeeper in Charles City.
On June 4, 1940, she was united in marriage to Raymond
Charles Schmitt at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Roseville.
They farmed northwest of Roseville until 1962 when they
moved to Marble Rock. Lillian worked as a cook for Club Iowa
for several years and later was employed by Floyd County
Memorial Hospital in Charles City, where she remained for 19
years until her retirement. She also participated in the
Foster Grandparent Program.
Lillian's interests included reading, crocheting, embroidery
and growing roses in her garden. She will be remembered as
an excellent cook, who made everything from scratch. Her
family was very important to her, especially those times
with her grandchildren.
Those thankful for having shared Lillian's life include her
children, Mabel (Richard) Zeran of Rockford, Charles
(Sylvia) Schmitt of Starke, Fla., Duane Schmitt of
Jacksonville, Fla., Viola (Dan) Krubesk and Avis (Tom)
Johnston, both of Mason City, and Doris (Dwayne) Harms of
Snellville, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
three sisters, Grace Griffin of Mason City, Maebelle
(Gilbert) Stelzer of Charles City and Gertrude Houser of New
Hampton; and two brothers, Leonard Bogges of New Hampton and
Harlie (Daisy) Bogges of Charles City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, on Aug.
18, 1980; her parents; one sister, Clarinda Thoe; and six
brothers, Melvin, Vern, Lawrence, Jack, Wendell and Elmer
Bogges.

Lovik, 65, of Sherrill, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at her
home.
Services will be held noon Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003 at the
Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd with burial to follow
at Oakwood Cemetery in Floyd.
Visitation will be
held from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2003 at the Egelhof,

Barbara was born July 15, 1938 in Charles City, a daughter
of Lawrence and Annette (Carroll) Krumrey.
Barbara Jane Krumrey married Harley Lovik on July 27, 1957
in Charles City. She spent over 20 years as a teaching
associate for the Dubuque Community School District. Barbara
was a volunteer Girl Scout leader and worked with Boy Scout
Troops 48 and 94. She enjoyed gardening and spending time
with her family. Barbara touched many lives and will be
greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She has been a
longtime member of the Sherrill United Methodist Church.
Barbara is survived by her mother and step-father: Annette
(Willis) Smith of Charles City; her husband: Harley Lovik of
Sherrill; two daughters: Debra (Terry) Simpson of Loveland,
Colo. and Diane 'Dee' Anderson of Orlando, Fa.; one son:
Dana 'Bear' Lovik of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren: Molly
(Tim) Murphy-Beecher. Christy Murphy, Caressa and Olivia
Anderson and Talon Simpson; one brother: Robert (Kathy)
Krumrey of Charles City; and one sister: Linda (Merlin)
Litterer of Greene.
She was preceded in death by her father.
A Barbara J. Lovik memorial fund has been established.

Gloria 'Pat' Mae Eckenrod Schwartzkopf was born September 7,
1933, in Chickasaw County, the daughter of Leonard and Cleo
(Tucker) Eckenrod. She attended the Republic school and
graduated from the Nashua High School. 'Pat' worked for
several years at Salsbury Laboratories and Sears before her
marriage to Francis Schwartzkopf on September 7, 1960, at
the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Francis died on June 29,
2000. She was a past member of the Moose Lodge. Traveling
was an important part of 'Pat's' life as she would visit her
brothers and sisters, go to various casinos, went
sightseeing on the Mississippi, and participated in the
various functions of the Oliver pattern ship personnel.
Living family members include two children, Jeff (Gail)
Schwartzkopf of Floyd, and Vicki (Tim) Erickson of Prescott,
Ariz.; two grandchildren, Raquel and Ryan Schwartzkopf; four
brothers, Robert (Fonda) Eckenrod and Kenny (Mable) Eckenrod
both of Waterloo, Rich (Lorraine) Eckenrod of Charles City,
and Jerry (Diane) Eckenrod of Belle Plaine; two sisters,
Mary Lou (Bob) Haaker of Flippin, Ariz., and Shirley
Eckenrod of Muskego, Wisc.; and two sisters-in-law, Fern
Eckenrod of Nashua, and Pauline Eckenrod of New Hampton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two

Wilma Cecil Morgan Beam was born December 6, 1911, at
Austin, Minn., the daughter of James W. and Neva (Bridges)
Morgan. She grew up at Plankinton, S.D., and graduated from
Plankinton High School. She remained in that area teaching
in country schools. On February 21, 1932, she was united in
marriage to John Beam. They remained in the Plankinton area
where they farmed and Wilma continued teaching school. In
1937 they moved to Belvidere, Ill., and in 1949 they moved
to rural Ionia where they continued farming. Wilma remained
on the farm after John died in 1988. She was a member of the
Republic Community Church, Republic Women's Fellowship, Farm
Bureau Women, and served for several years as a 4-H Club
leader. Wilma enjoyed sewing, gardening, and traveling to
all fifty states, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Family
was very important to Wilma and the time spent with them was
always very special.
Living family members include three children, John Howard
(Shirley) Beam of Minneapolis, Minn., Helen Niesen of Puerto
Vallarta, Mexico, and Marilyn (James) Dettmer of Charles
City; seven grandchildren, Russell, Douglas, and Jerry Beam,
Devin Niesen, and Dana, Lori, and Jamie Dettmer; fifteen
great grandchildren; two brothers, Dale (June) Morgan and
Junior (Marilyn) Morgan both of Belvidere, Ill.; and four
sisters, Amber Mott of Plymouth, Ind., and Thelma Vance,
Harriet (Ned) Glass and Imogene (Maynard) Bye all of
Belvidere, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a
daughter, Hazel Beam, a grandson, Thomas Dettmer, a great
grandson, Nicholas Dettmer, and three brothers, Evan, Dean,
and Earl Morgan.

'Becky' Sue Patrie, 47, of 515 6th Ave., Charles City, died
late Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, after an illness at the Floyd
County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12,
2003, at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles
City, with the Rev. A.C. Wegner officiating. Interment will
be in the Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. Visitation will
be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and will continue
one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Those planning an

Rebecca Sue Patrie
was born in Charles City on October 25, 1955, the daughter
of Robert and Dorothy (Sweet) Learn. 'Becky' grew up in and
attended and graduated high school in Charles City, where
she had been a life long resident. On January 10, 1994
Rebecca was united in marriage to Lyle Patrie at the Floyd
County Courthouse in Charles City. 'Becky's' interests and
leisure activities included crocheting, helping others
whenever possible and in any way she could, nurturing her
family and spending time with her friends.
Those grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in
Becky's life include her husband Lyle Patrie of Charles
City; her father, Robert Learn of New Smyrna, Fla.;
daughter, Jessica Bogue and her husband Mike of Bassett;
five grandchildren, Mikaila, Hailey, Andi, Joseph and
Zachary Bogue, all of Bassett; three sisters, Ramona Hauser
and her husband Gary; Shelley Haught, all of New Smyrna,
Fla. and Sharon Clinton of Colwell; two brothers, John Learn
of Charles City and Patrick Learn of Colwell and she leaves
behind one brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, eleven nieces
and twelve nephews. Becky will be greatly missed, but we all
know that another angel found her way home.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy; daughter,
Tori; her sister, Virginia Kiefer; special friend Julie
Cagley and her grandparents.

Hazel P. Kelleher,
77, formerly of Springdale, Ariz., and Charles City,
died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Carriage Inn Nursing Home
in Steubenville, Ohio, from complications of pneumonia.
Services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 10:30 a.m.
at Sunnyside Chapel Funeral Home, Charles City. Burial
in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City. Visitation
will be today, Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. and on
Wednesday from 9 a.m. til service time.
Hazel was born on May 16, 1926 at Lisbon, Ohio to Albert
L. and Elizabeth K. 'Smith' Stewart. On Aug. 30, 1946
she was united in marriage to Francis Leroy Kelleher in
San Diego, Calif. He died on Aug. 19, 1999.
Hazel was a
member of the Moose Lodge and The American Legion
Auxiliary of Charles City. She was an employee of the
Chautauqua Nursing Homes.
Survivors include: four sons, Michael of Steubenville,
Ohio, Dean of Anchorage, Alaska, Patrick of Waukegan,
Ill., and Timothy of Anchorage, Alaska; two daughters,
Jean Stillions of Charles City and Sue Kelleher of
Orlando, Fla.; ten grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Bean of
Ambridge, Penn., Betty Cunningham of Florida, and Ruth
Archer of Sewickley, Penn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and
one grandson, Trevor Stillions.

15, 2003, at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Mary Hatch

Doris,
daughter of Levi and Mary R. 'Jordan' Bean, was born on
October 21, 1921, in Bradford. On July 8, 1939, she
married Walter 'Red' Onken at Osage. They were divorced
in 1968. On May 25, 1974, she married Alfred E. Mattson
at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. They were divorced
in 1997. On November 6, 1999, she married Lawrence
Techau in New Hampton. Doris was a homemaker and
belonged to the Women's Fellowship at Church and also to
the Chickasaw County Historical Society at Nashua.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence, New Hampton; 4
sons: Charles Onken, Kissimmi, Fla., James Onken,
Sansimon, Ariz., Arthur and James Onken, both of New
Hampton; 2 daughters: Sandra Elenz and Mary Ann
Diesburg, both of New Hampton; 11 grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; one step grandson; four step
great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Anna Dose,
Plainfield, and Geneva Allsup of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son,
Michael R. Onken, March 1, 1993; one grandson, Jessie
Onken; two granddaughters, Lorilee Onken and Judy Elenz;
two brothers and five sisters.

Service for 33 years.
John is survived by his wife, Debra; two daughters,
Shannon (Mike) Hatfield and Jennifer Guthart, a
grandson, Alex Weston all of St. Charles, Mo.; his
mother, Opal Guthart of Ionia; one sister, Edna (Vernon)
Schwickerath of New Hampton; and one brother, Doug
Guthart of Ridgeway.
John was preceded in death by his father, Garland
Guthart.

Russell H. Schroeder
Sr., 80, of Charles City, died Thursday, August 14,
2003, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles
City. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Saturday,
August 16, at Hauser Funeral Home, with Pastor David
Werges, St. John Lutheran Church, officiating.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Hauser
Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery,
Charles City.
Russell H. Schroeder was born February 9, 1923, in Elma,
the son of Homer and Myrtle (Diestler) Schroeder. He
graduated from Elma High School. On August 12, 1944,
Russell was united in marriage to Viola Debban in
Austin, Minn. The couple farmed many years in the
Charles City area. Russell worked for the Oliver
Corporation, which was later the White Farm Co. in
Charles City. He retired in 1975, and continued farming.
Russell lived for fishing and was an excellent
carpenter, making many wooden crafts for his wife and
family. Russell was a member of St. John Lutheran
Church.
Russell is
survived and lovingly remembered by five children:
"Ginny" Horton and husband Roger of New Hampton, Russell
Schroeder Jr. and wife Vicky, Gary Schroeder, Tamara
Sutton and husband Roger, all of Charles City; and Devon
Schroeder and fiance Evelyn of Las Vegas, Nev.; four
grandchildren, DeDra Smith, Joshua Schroeder, Rod
Starkey, and Benjamin Jon Schroeder; two great
grandchildren, Samuel McCarty and Niklas Smith; sister
Wanda Stuber, brothers Robert, Kenneth, Dean, and Ronald
Schroeder.
Russell leaves to join his beloved wife Viola, his
parents, sisters Evelyn Hart and Lois Schroeder, and
brother Dale Schroeder.

Zelda Lorraine
Stevens was born May 4, 1921 in Winthrop, a daughter of
George and Thelma (Davis) Postel. She graduated from
East Waterloo High in 1939.
On June 11, 1955 she was united in marriage to George A.
Stevens. She worked as a secretary at Geerlings Feed,
RSVP, and for the Podiatrist's office, Dr. Moberly, Dr.
Smith, which evolved into Dr. Lance and Dr. Wieres,
where she retired in 1989. She was also a member and
officer of Chapter JP of the P.E.O. National Secretary's
Association and the Waterloo Women's Club.
Left to honor her memory are her husband, George Stevens
of Waterloo: two daughters; Patricia (John) Mauser of
Indianapolis, Ind., Gayle (Paul) Wilcox of Charles City:
one son; Eric Alton Stevens, Marion: grandsons David
(Julie) Mauser and their children, Clara and Henry, of
Indianapolis, Ind., Kevin Mauser also of Indianapolis,
Ind., and Nathan Wilcox of Norman, Okla.: granddaughters

Jeffery Scott
Lynch was born October 17, 1962 in LaCrosse, Wis. He and
his wife, Julie Lovik Lynch (formerly of the Charles
City area) were together for 13 years and just married
June 19, 2003 in Rochester, Minn., at their home. Jeff
was formerly of Hokah, Minn., and has lived in Rochester
since 1984. Jeff majored in Aeronautical Engineering
from 1986-1990 in Winona. Jeff also attended Park
Institute and held a 2nd Degree Black Belt. He was a
self-employed contractor and Julie works for Mayo
Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife, Julie; mother Marion Lynch
of Houston, Minn.; paternal grandmother Ester Lynch of
LaCrescent, Minn.; three sisters: Kelly (Mike) Beckman
of Houston, Minn., Kathy (Tom) Oldenburg of Hokah,
Minn., and Karen (Nawaf) Al Sharif of Minneapolis,
Minn.; two brothers: Tim Lynch of LaCrescent, Minn. and
Brian (Beth) Lynch of Houston, Minn.; 15 special nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, paternal
grandfather and maternal grandparents.

DELTONA, FL--Michael
R. Gorden, 60, a truck driver for Transport American of
Eagan, Minn., and formerly of Charles City,, died at his
home in Deltona, Fla., on August 6, 2003.
Born in Minneapolis on September 8, 1942, Gorden was a
1961 graduate of Charles City High School. During his
junior year, in 1960, he was the Iowa state wrestling
champion at 165 pounds. Throughout the rest of his life,
he was actively involved in Judo as well, becoming a
sandan and earning his 3rd degree black belt. He was
also a lifelong practitioner of the Church of Christ,
Scientist.
Following high
school, he enlisted in the Air Force and was a veteran
of the Vietnam War. He then lived in St. Paul, Minn.,
until 1997, when he moved to Florida.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Karla, of 2506
Dumas Dr., Deltona, Fla., 32739; a son, Derrick, St.
Paul; a daughter, Mercedes Gorden, Minneapolis; two
brothers, David, Apple Valley, Minn., and Richard, Des
Moines; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather,
Sally and Lawrence Wiltse, and by his grandparents,
Frank and Selma Osten, Osage.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the
United States Judo Association, 21 North Union Blvd.,
Colorado Springs, CO 80909, or to any nearby Christian
Science Reading Room.

Eddie Kratchmer, 93, a former resident of 608 9th
Avenue, Charles City, died Friday, August 22, 2003, at
the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.
Funeral services for Eddie Kratchmer will be held at
10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Eddie Louie Kratchmer was born April 14, 1910 at Shell
Rock, the son of John and Rina (Albers) Kratchmer. He
received his education at the Shell Rock school. Eddie
worked for several years as a rural fuel delivery truck
driver at Plainfield. On July 9, 1934, he was united in
marriage to Mary Renelda Atkinson at Lena, IL. In 1937
Eddie began working at the Oliver Corporation where he
worked as a pattern maker, retiring in 1972. He was a
member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and had
been a Boy Scout leader. His hobbies included working
outside, woodworking, fishing, hunting and gardening.
Eddie was always looking forward to spending time with
his family.
Living family members include three sons, Vernon (Sally)
Kratchmer of Osage, Perry (Kerry) Kratchmer of Harrah,
Okla., and Dean (Sharon) of Jay, Fla.; twelve
grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on
April 19, 2001, a daughter, Elaine Hirschler, three
brothers, John, Martin and Earl Kratchmer, and two
sisters, Mayme Wylam and Ella Avery.

Jan. 25, 1931, in Fillmore County Minn., the daughter of
Lyle and Myrtle (Ohl) Rowe. She attended school in
southern Minnesota. On Jan. 20, 1947 in Waterloo she
married Marvin Edwards.
Throughout her life, with the involvement of many
friends and family, she enjoyed Bingo, playing cards,
fishing, bowling, going to rummage sales and dancing in
her earlier years.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Marvin, of
Charles City; two sons: Dale (Carol) of LaPorte City and
Guy (Jodi) of Charles City; seven grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters:
Ruth Forland and Ruby Darland.

Wednesday.

Ramon E. Snyder, 65, a former Charles City resident,
died Monday, August 25, 2003, in Raleigh, N.C.

Ramon Snyder
was born February, 16, 1938, the son of Arthur E. and
Elfrieda (Pete) Snyder. He received his education at the
Immaculate Conception School and the Universities of
Winona, Minn., and Milwaukee, Wis.
Ramon Snyder and Lois Abrams were united in marriage on
January 28, 1961 in Winona, Minn. He retired from IBM.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, and four children,

He was preceded in death by his parents and
father-in-law.

Doris M. (Blough)
Houstman, 81, of Charles City, passed away Monday
evening, August 25, 2003, in the emergency room at Floyd
County Memorial Hospital in Charles City of
heart-related problems.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, August 28,
2003, at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua
with burial in Riverton Cemetery, rural Charles City.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at
the funeral home on Thursday.

Charles City, Iowa 50616.
Doris Maxine Houstman was born January 18, 1922, at
Vinton, the daughter of William N. and Anna Mae (Dorsey)
Anderson. She attended school at LaPorte City. Doris was
united in marriage to Forrest Blough and they moved to
an acreage north of Nashua. They worked as a team doing
painting and wood finishing for homes throughout the
area. Following Forrest's death in 1979, Doris continued
with the business. She later moved to Charles City and
started a cleaning business. She was united in marriage
to Richard Houstman on September 9, 1989, at the Little
Brown Church in Nashua. Doris was a member of the
Charles City Moose Lodge. She will be remembered as a
talented, hard working lady.
Doris is survived by her husband, Richard Houstman of
Charles City; two step-daughters, Mary (Steven) Jung of
Mason City and Gloria (Dennis) Venz of Alden; and three
step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Forrest
Blough, on May 2, 1979; her parents; two brothers,
Charles and Estel Anderson.
Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Homes in Nashua are in
charge of arrangements.

Schoenfeldt, 84, of 2326 Timber Ave., Charles City, died
Monday, August 25, 2003, at the Floyd County Memorial
Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m.
Saturday, August 30, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran
Church, 200 S. Main St. in Charles City, with the Rev.
Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Interment will be at the
St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery in Roseville.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday,
August 29, at the Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt
St. in Charles City, and will continue one hour prior to
services at the church on Saturday.

arrangements are pending for Ronald Leroy Kilby, 65, of
Nashua, who passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 27,
2003, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.
