Wilbur F. Luick
June 13, 2006
Wilbur Frederick Luick, 88, died on
Tuesday, September 13, 2005, in
Davis, California. Services will be held on Friday,
June 16, 2006, at the Belmond United Methodist Church,
with Rev. Mike Druhl officiating. Interment with
military honors will take place in the Belmond
Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
The Dugger Funeral Home is in charge of the
arrangements.
Wilbur, the
son of Harold and Ella Furseth Bliss Luick, was born
on April 3, 1917 in Belmond. He graduated from the
Belmond High School in 1935 and from Grinnell College
in 1939.
Wilbur married
Janice Marie Johnson on September 2, 1941. Soon after
the wedding he entered the U. S. Navy, serving during
World War II in the South Pacific. Wilbur was
discharged as a Lieutenant in 1946. He began teaching
college speech and earned a masters degree from
Michigan State University. He continued his teaching
career as a professor at Stevens College in Columbia,
Missouri and San Jose State in California.
Although a
professor by trade, Wilbur's passion was synchronized
swimming. A member of the Synchronized Swimming Hall
of Fame, Wilbur's contributions to the sport are
numerous. He invented special sound equipment, edited
and produced a monthly newsletter called the
"Synchro-news", and helped recruit coaches for several
Olympic champions in this event.
He was preceded in
death by his parents.
Wilbur is survived
by his wife; daughters, Katie Luick of San Jose and
Barbara Luick-Jahn (Tom) of Davis; and grandchildren,
Erica and Adam Frederick.

Lowell J. Larson
June 13, 2006
Lowell Jerald Larson, 84, of Lawler, died on Saturday,
June 3, 2006.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday,
June 6, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church-Crane Creek,
with Rev. Vincent Fricke officiating. Interment was in
the Crane Creek Cemetery, near Lawler.
Lowell Jerald,
was born on October 30, 1921, on the family farm near
Olaf, the son of Joseph and Ruth (Richardson) Larson.
He graduated from the Belmond High School and began
farming with his family in the Kanawha area.
He married Eleanora Dannen of Iowa Falls on February 26, 1950, at
the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple resided
on the Larson home farm near Kanawha. Lowell purchased
a farm northeast of New Hampton in 1953. Lowell was a
lifelong cattle and grain farmer. In 1995 he
semi-retired from farming, but continued to help his
sons.
Over the years
Lowell had served as a Jacksonville Township Trustee,
Crane Creek Church Treasurer, Farmers Co-op board
member, and was on the Jacksonville Township Election
Board. He was a member of the Chickasaw County Farm
Bureau.
He enjoyed
livestock auctions, playing cards, having coffee at
Little Turkey and Lawler, visiting with family and
friends, spending time with grandchildren, and
watching his son, Jeff race stock cars.
Lowell was
preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Jared
Larson.
Survivors include
his wife; children, Kathleen Jo (Ronald) Turner of
Dysart, Gary (Deb) Larson of Saude, Tony Larson of New
Hampton, Deborah (Daniel) Fulks of Cedar Falls, Jeff
(Debbie Ann) Larson of New Hampton, Pamela Larson and
Phillip Standiford, Jr. of Clear Lake and Kimberly
(Robbie) Hilmer of Dysart; grandchildren, Kelly
Larson, Erik Larson, Kurt Larson, Trina Larson,
Charlie Fulks, Gabe Fulks, Eli Fulks, April (Sean)
Singewald, Emily Larson, Benjamin Larson, Dustin Lars
Elin, Katie Hilmer and Bobbi Kay Hilmer;
great-grandson, Samuel John Singewald;
step-grandchildren, Ronda Egbert, Tristi Shipper and
Travis Turner; brother, James Russell Larson of
Kanawha; sisters, Marian Ernst of Belmond, Doris Shear
of Kanawha, Clarice Yarger of San Diego and Joann
(Cornelius) Betten of New Hampton.

Evelyn E. Schramm
June 13, 2006
Evelyn E. Schramm, 97, of Klemme, died on Monday, June 5, 2006, at the
Belmond Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 9, at the Clear Lake
Evangelical Free Church, with Rev. David Wiersbe
officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery
in Mason City.
Evelyn Ethel,
the daughter of Gus and Lydia (Hesley) Schramm, was
born on December 26, 1908, on a farm south of
Hayfield. She graduated from the Hayfield Consolidated
School in 1927. She worked in Chicago, Forest City,
Seattle, Omaha, Chicago again, Kanawha and Klemme.
Evelyn was
preceded in death by her parents; sister, Floy
Lackore; and brother-in-law, Clark Lackore.
She is survived by
her
sister, Ruby Lackore of Clear Lake; and special
friends, Donna and Kenneth Weiland of Klemme.

Caroline L. Kluckhohn
June 13, 2006
Caroline Lillian Kluckhohn, 83, of Klemme, died on
Friday, June 9, 2006, at the Westview Care Center in
Britt.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 13, at the Immanuel Reformed
United Church of Christ in Klemme, with Rev. Donna Buckman officiating. Burial was in the Ell Township
Cemetery, Klemme.
Caroline was
born on November 7, 1922, on a farm at Wesley, the
daughter of Pearl and Celia (Bergman) Schwartz. In
1929, the family moved to Klemme where she attended
school and worked for families cleaning and
babysitting. On July 10, 1946, she married Kenneth Kluckhohn at Cedar Falls.
She enjoyed going
on bus trips with her husband, doing embroidery,
playing cards, and playing bingo. She also liked to
sit by the window and watch the squirrels and birds in
their backyard. Caroline worked at BMD cleaning the
offices while Kenneth cleaned the shop area. Caroline
always made sure you had something to eat. On Sunday
afternoon the house was always filled with polka
music. In earlier years she enjoyed walking to her
daughter and granddaughter's home to take care of
their dog, Hershey, and later she enjoyed visits at
the care center from their dog Pepper. She was a
member of the UCC Women's Fellowship and was always
willing to help out at funerals and cleaning the
church.
Caroline had been
a resident of the Westview Care Center since October
2003.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; brothers, Herbert and Harold
Schwartz; sister, Christina Olsen; and an infant
sister.
Survivors include
her husband; daughter, Carol Marchant and
granddaughter, Angie Kluckhohn, all of Klemme;
grandson, Jeff Marchant and special friend, Susie of
Mason City; son, Larry (Marcia) Kluckhohn of Garner;
granddaughter, Kristi (Bruce) Foyt of Rosemount,
Minnesota; grandsons, Jason (Nicole) Kluckhohn of
Greer, South Caroline and Todd Kluckhohn of Kansas
City; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Lauren Foyt and
Caleb Kluckhohn; and sister-in-law, Jean Schwartz of
Belmond.

Audrey I. Iverson
June 20, 2006
Audrey
I. Iverson, 93, died on Monday, June 12, 2006, at her
home in Dows.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 16,
at the First Lutheran Church in Dows, with the Rev.
William Straka officiating. Interment was in the Alden
Cemetery.
Audrey Ione, the daughter of Raymond R. and Edith E. Baker Sowl, was born
on June 24, 1912 in Popejoy. She graduated from the
Popejoy High School in 1930. She earned her R.N. in
1935 at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Council
Bluffs. Then she worked at the Mary Greeley Hospital
in Ames.
Audrey married Henry J. Iverson, Jr. on September 1, 1938 in Northwood.
They made their home north of Dows, where Hank farmed
and Audrey worked at the Ellsworth Hospital in Iowa
Falls. They moved to the farm they bought south of
Dows in 1941. Audrey moved to Dows after Hank's death
in 2003.
Audrey was
active in the First Lutheran Church, where she acted
as historian for the ladies' aid for many years. She
was a member of the Liberty Club. Sewing, quilting and
canning were activities she enjoyed.
Audrey was
preceded in death by her husband; and parents.
Audrey is survived
by her nephews, Roger Iverson of Dows, Stewart Iverson,
Jr. (Vicki) of Clarion, Paul (Judy) Iverson of Lake
City and John Iverson of Florida; nieces, Anna Marie
Pulliam of Waukee, Georgina Iverson of Alden, Jo Ellen
Iverson of Urbandale and Nancy Iverson of Minnesota;
great-nieces, Shelley (Shawn) Finnel and Stephanie
(Hammie) Girard; great-nephews, Stewart (Nicole)
Iverson III, Jason Pulliam, and Captain Chad Bortel.

Susan E. Leinbach
June 27, 2006
Susan
E. Leinbach, 39, died on Thursday, June 15, 2006, in
Rockville, Maryland, from colon cancer.
Funeral services were
held on Tuesday, June 20, at the Belmond United
Methodist Church, where she was baptized, with Rev.
Mike Druhl officiating. Burial was in the Belmond
Cemetery.
Susan Elizabeth, was born in Des Moines, on November 28, 1966, the daughter
of Samuel Packard Leinbach, Jr. and Julia Anne "Nancy"
Chambers.
She earned a BA degree from the University of Virginia and a law degree
from the Columbus School at Catholic University in
Washington. She received recognition from the Catholic
University Law Review for literary achievements and
distinguished service while she was an editorial
assistant. Upon graduation she received the Law School
Alumni Society Award for academic excellence,
participating in extracurricular activities, and
dedication to the school and community.
Susan lived in Bethesda, Maryland, where she was employed as a legal
editor for LexisNexis Academic and Library Solutions.
She was a member of the Maryland Bar Association and
was accredited to the Maryland Supreme Court.
In her spare time she was an artist and writer. She often encouraged
others to improve their writing.
She was preceded in death by her fraternal grandparents, Dr. Samuel and
Mildred Leinbach of Belmond.
Survivors include her father of Winchester, Virginia and mother of Port
Angeles, Washington; step-parents, Patricia Leinbach
and Dr. B. N. Chambers; brother, Samuel III (Sara)
Leinbach; step-sister, Myra Chambers; step-brother,
William Chambers; and her beloved friend, Douglas Ian
Spencer of England.

LeRoy
"Bud" Berhow
June 20, 2006
LeRoy
"Bud" Berhow, 83, died on Saturday, June 17, 2006, at
the Kanawha Community Home.
Funeral services were held on
Tuesday, June 20, at the Kanawha Lutheran Church, with
Janelle Siffring AiM officiating.
Bud was born at home in Twin Lake Township, near Kanawha, to Alvis and
Tillie Severson Berhow on June 21, 1922. He received
his education in a rural school. He entered the U.S.
Army on April 7, 1943 and landed in Europe on April 18,
1944, participating in the invasion of France. He
served with Battery B, 777th Anti-Aircraft Artillery
Battalion in General George Patton's 3rd Army as a
half-track driver. He fought in the Battle of the
Bulge and was discharged on November 29, 1945. He
received the Bronze Star and Silver Star.
On February 24, 1946, he married Lucille Chapman in Belmond. Bud farmed
for a while and then was employed by Hancock County
Maintenance until retiring. He was a member of the
Goodell Legion Post. Bud's retirement was spent
woodworking, bird watching, and hardly missing a day
watching the wildlife at East and West Lake. He
enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and
playing cribbage with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Angi Hegg
Bronemann; great-grandson, Jacob Lang; and sisters,
Delores, Viola, Marlys and Alva.
Bud is survived by his wife; daughters, Judy (Jim) Hegg of Shell Rock,
Patsy (Kevin) Sanders of Fayetteville, Tennessee and
Becky Ruter of Corwith; son, Timothy (Nancy) Berhow of
Corwith; grandchildren, Brian Hegg, Brent and Matt
Sanders, Chad Lang, Casey Ruter and Cole and Amy
Berhow; great-grandchildren, Michael Bronemann, Brynn
Hegg, Payton and Connor Sanders, and Calvin and Hayden
Lang; sisters, Ina Smith of Belmond, Ardith Michelson
of Klemme, Orpha Trees of Riverside, California and
Thelma Boller of San Luis Obispo, California; and
brother, Milo Berhow of Belmond.

Cecil
D. Eccles

Cecil
Dewain Eccles, of Tucson, Arizona, died on Monday, May
15, 2006. A burial service will be held in Belmond on
Saturday, June 24, at 11:00 a.m.
Cecil was born in Belmond on August 14, 1941, the son of Glenn and Edna
Eccles. He graduated with the Class of 1959, attended
college in Ames, and enlisted in the Air Force to
serve his country for several years. He was educated
in engineering and continued in that career for the
remainder of his life.
Cecil was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond, where he
was confirmed. He was extremely active in the Boy
Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Eagle, and
was a member of the Order of the Arrow.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth; a nephew;
and a great-niece.

Lucille (Nelson) Gourley
June 27, 2006
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m., on
Saturday, July 8, 2006, at the St. Olaf Church near
Belmond, for Lucille (Nelson) Gourley, 83, who died at
Geneseo, Illinois, on Tuesday, January 10, 2006.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Lucille was born on December 4, 1922 at Belmond, the daughter of Henry
and Bertha (Scott) Nelson. She married E. Clifton Gourley, Jr. on December 6, 1942, at St. Olaf. They
lived at Chambray, Illinois most of their married
life.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother; and
one sister.
Surviving are her daughters, Cheryl (Robert) Tack of Bradenton, Florida,
Lynette (Larry) Dophin of Geneseo, Marilyn Lucia of
San Diego, California and Pamela (Mark) Bittner of
Bloomington, Illinois; and sisters, Olive Hopkey of
San Diego and Helna Kraft of Des Moines.

Roy D. Cummings
June 27, 2006
Roy D.
Cummings, 79, of Belmond, died on Sunday, June 25,
2006, at the Belmond Medical Center, after a long
respiratory illness.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30
p.m., on Wednesday, June 28, at the Belmond United
Methodist Church, with Reverend Michael Druhl
officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.
Roy Dean, was born on October 17, 1926 in Gilman, Missouri, the son of
Edward and Beatrice (Hogan) Cummings. He was educated
in Gilman. The family moved to Des Moines in 1941 and
went to work at the ordinance plant during World War
II. During this time, Roy met his future wife, Lenora
"Jo" Wicker. They were married in Des Moines on August
25, 1942.
They moved to Belmond in 1952, residing here for a short time before
moving to Crystal Lake, where Roy worked for Sorenson
Plumbing and Heating. In 1961, the Cummings moved back
to Belmond and Roy began working for Kinseth Plumbing
and Heating. In 1966 Roy became a partner in that
business, retiring in 1986.
Roy was a member of the Humboldt Model A Club and took great pride in his
own Model A car. He was also a long time member of the
Belmond Lions Club, receiving many pins and awards for
his efforts, including the Warren Coleman Award for
dedicated service. He was also a member of the Belmond
United Methodist Church, where he was active as an
usher and in other efforts.
During retirement, Roy spent countless hours in his wood shop making
special gifts, grandfather clocks and other
handcrafted items for his family and friends. He took
great pride in keeping his lawn immaculate, and loved
to feed the deer and birds. Roy enjoyed many
friendships, and a favorite past time was coffee at
True Value with his friends. Roy loved the outdoors
and looked forward to going on cold water fishing
excursions to Minnesota. He was a member of the
National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited and
Pheasants Forever.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marilyn;
son-in-law, Kenneth Skrovig; twin brother, Ray;
brother, Franklin; sisters, Leola, Ruth and Jessie
Lee; and a great-grandson.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Carolyn (Gary) Skiye of Belmond
and Sharon Skrovig of Clarion; brother, Daryl (Joy)
Cummings of Des Moines; sister, Ethel Smith of Des
Moines; grandchildren, Angela (Dale) Covington of
Coulter, Paula (Randy) Schnell of Belmond, Daniel
(Amber) Skiye of Clear Lake, Jennifer (Jerry)
Headington of Des Moines, Michele (Brian) Wright of
Dakota City, Bobbi (Ed) Miller of Belmond, Patrick
(Barb) Dillon of Greeley, Colorado, Cyndi (Eric)
Rector of Clarion, Myndi (Linc) Morgan of Eagle Grove
and Lyndi (Dan) Gabrielson of Webster City; 29
great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren;
and three great-great-grandchildren.
