Donald A. Ausborn
April 19, 2006
Donald A. Ausborn, 68, most recently of Duncombe and
formerly of Klemme, died on Tuesday, April 11, 2006,
in Laurens.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 15,
at the St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond, with Rev.
Lowell Halvorson officiating. Burial was in the Ell
Township Cemetery, Klemme.
Donald, the son of
Albert and Anna (Groh) Ausborn, was born on January
15, 1938 in Ft. Dodge. He was baptized in the St. John
Lutheran Church and graduated from the Klemme Schools
in 1956. He married Corrine Noble on February 1, 1957
at the Garner Methodist Church.
Donald worked for
various farmers as well as the Klemme elevator. He
delivered Lifetime Motor Homes for many years and
looked forward to gatherings with other drivers. He
worked at Shrock's Fertilizer in Corwith. Don and
Corrine owned and operated the Alibi Bar in Britt for
a time. Eventually, a career as a semi tractor driver
became his life. He had driven trucks nearly 46 years
for Ace, Commercial and Royster of Duncombe.
Donald enjoyed
hunting and fishing, and his family will remember
taking the long way on country roads looking for
pheasants. He also enjoyed gardening, garage sales,
auctions, and bowling. He liked tinkering on lawn
mowers, tractors and small engines. He kept everything
as he believed there was always a use for things. Don
enjoyed spending precious times with his
grandchildren.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; infant son, Lee; brother,
Harvey; and sister-in-law, Mildred Ausborn.
Don is survived by
his wife of Britt; daughter, Cindy Jo (Merlyn) Brown
of Kanawha; sons, James (Patty) Ausborn of Webster
City, John Ausborn of Trimont, Minnesota, Gary (Angie)
Ausborn of Britt and David (Pam) Ausborn of Duncombe;
brothers, Ervin (Nellie) Ausborn, Leonard (Lenny)
Ausborn of Belmond and Robert (Mary) Ausborn of Ames;
grandchildren, Michael Brown, Brian (Crystal) Brown,
Stacey (Donny) King, Jeremy (Amy) Brown, Jeffrey
Brown, Kyle (Lacy) Ausborn, Melissa Ausborn, Adam
Ausborn, Amy Ausborn, Christopher Ausborn, Neil
Ausborn, Holly Ausborn, Justin Ausborn, Courtney
Ausborn and Nicole Ausborn; step-grandsons, Jeff
Garcia and John Kauffman; and nine
great-grandchildren.

Adeline A. Jurgens
April 19, 2006
Adeline A. Jurgens, 86, of Hampton, died on Wednesday,
April 12, 2006, at the Franklin General Nursing
Facility in Hampton.
Funeral services were held on Saturday,
April 15, at the Zion Reformed Church near Sheffield,
with burial in the church cemetery.
Adeline was born
on November 7, 1919 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, the
daughter of John and Mattie Leuning Rave. She married
Jerry T. Jurgens in 1940 at Ellsworth, Minnesota. They
moved to Hampton in 1997.
Survivors include
her children, Ronald (Marjorie) Jurgens of Belmond,
Mariann (Doug) Munk of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and
Harlin (Mardie) Jurgens of Latimer. Other local
relatives include Dorothy Jurgens of Thornton, Paul
and Marie Jurgens of Latimer, Freida Jurgens of
Belmond and Otto Dannen of Latimer.

Gerald E. Tupper
April 25, 2006
Gerald E. Tupper, of Dumont, died on Tuesday, April
18, 2006, at the Covenant Hospital in Waterloo. The
body was cremated. A private service in the Amsterdam
Cemetery in Goodell, will be held at a later date.
Jerry was born on
November 5, 1939 in Silver City, New Mexico, to Gerald
and Jettie (Brown) Tupper, the second of seven
children.
Jerry served in
the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division. He drove semi
for Umthun Trucking for 20+ years and was working for
Five Star Elevator in Dougherty at the time of his
death.
Jerry and Mary Ann
Nolte were married on October 10, 1971.
Jerry was preceded
in death by his mother, Jettie Bailey of Carlsbad, New
Mexico; two sisters; eldest son, Gerald Don Tupper;
grandson, Daniel Tupper; and brother-in-law, Richard
Jones of New Mexico.
He is survived by
his wife; special sister, Patty of New Mexico; sons,
Chris of Dumont, Ben (Deb) of Dumont and David
(Whitney) of Elmore, Minnesota; grandchildren, Jerry
(Stephanie) of Conrad, David of Iowa Falls, Paul and
Jessica of Eldora, Kevin, Kiya, Hollie, Kodie and
Jenna of Dumont, Justine and Brittany of Elmore,
Minnesota; and great-granddaughters, Liberty of Eldora
and Jade and Nasaria of Conrad.

Marian A. Riggins
April 25, 2006
Marian A. Riggins, 74, of Eldora, died on Thursday,
April 20, 2006, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital
in Grundy Center, while under the care of the Cedar
Valley Hospice.
A graveside service was held on
Monday, April 24, at the Immanuel Reformed Church
Cemetery near Belmond, and a memorial service was held
on Tuesday, April 25, at the Eldora United Methodist
Church.
Marian was born on
January 26, 1932 in Belmond, the daughter of Ben and
Viola (Mennenga) Loats. She attended the Pleasant #5
Country School and graduated from the Belmond High
School in 1950.
On November 11, 1950, she was married
to James L. Riggins. Marian had lived in Eldora since
1952 and worked as office manager for Iowa Electric
Power and Light for twenty years, retiring in 1986.
She was preceded
in death by her parents.
Survivors include
her husband; daughter, Catherine (Jeffery) Roberts of
Downers Grove, Illinois; grandchildren, Laura and
Brian; and brothers, Fred Loats of Belmond and Kenneth
(Marcy) Loats of Granville, Ohio.

Charles F. Cole
April 25, 2006
Charles "Chuck" F. Cole, 63, of Belmond, died on
Saturday, April 22, 2006, at his home surrounded by
his family.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April
26, at 1:30 p.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in
Belmond, with Rev. Lowell Halvorson officiating. Full
military honors will be provided at the Belmond
Cemetery.
Chuck was born on
June 1, 1942, in Minneapolis and graduated there
before entering the U.S. Air Force. During his two
tours in Vietnam he became a POW for a short time.
Upon returning to the United States he married Betty
Lauden of Belmond in December 1966.
Some of Chuck's
favorite activities were camping, fishing and square
dancing in Tennessee, eating shellfish in Virginia,
and sightseeing and swapping customs in Hokkaido,
Japan. Greenland had its treasures of glaciers and
cold climate. After 22 years of service in the Air
Force he retired to Sacramento, California. Wherever
he lived, he had one or two little ones he spoiled.
In 1990, the
family returned to Belmond when his mother-in-law
entered the nursing home. They purchased the motel
from Edith Hill (renaming it C & G) and then opened CBJ's Auto Wash. They bought a home on Lake Cornelia
where Chuck enjoyed fishing on his pontoon boat. He
loved to watch wildlife and play cards during the
winter months and to spend time with his two
grandsons. After their health started to decline, the
Coles moved back to Belmond.
He was preceded in
death by his parents, James and Frances (Nichols)
Cole; brothers, Joe, Ralph, Myron (Bud), and James;
sisters, Ida Mitchell and Irene Shores;
brother-in-law, George Gerdes; two nephews; and a
niece.
Chuck is survived
by his wife; daughter, Tammy (Mitch) Gladue of
Clarion; sons, John (Lisa) of Belmond and James of
Belmond; grandsons, Adam Gladue and Tyler Baldwin;
brother, Daniel Cole of Forest Lake, Minnesota;
sisters-in-law, Vallie Cole of Fayetteville, Arkansas,
Frances Cole of Minneapolis, Rosie Gardes of Klemme
and Wilma (Marvin) Lindsay of Swaledale.

Norris Nelson
May 2, 2006
Norris Nelson, died on Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at the Minnesota
Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.
Funeral services were held on
Sunday,
April 30, at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Belmond,
with interment in the church cemetery. Pastor Lowell
Halvorson officiated.
Norris, the son of Nickolie
and Helen Emelia (Oscarson) Nelson, was born on November
9, 1913 in Belmond. He was baptized and confirmed at
St. Olaf and attended school in Belmond. He owned and
operated a portable feed grinding business prior to
military service.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in May 1941. As a
member of the 34th "Red Bull" Division, he saw service
in Ireland, Tunisia and Italy during World War II.
While on the Anzio beachhead on May 20, 1944, Norris and
a fellow soldier held off an entire battalion of
Germans. That feat earned him the Distinguished
Service Cross, the second highest military honor in
the nation. He also earned six overseas bars, an
American Defense Service Ribbon, a Good Conduct
Ribbon, a European African Middle Eastern Ribbon and a
Silver Battle Star. When he returned to the United
States he was asked to ride as a hero in an open-air
car with General Mark W. Clark in a parade through
Chicago. He was discharged from the Army in May 1945.
Norris married Florain Janice Peterson on March
19, 1949 in Badger. They farmed near Scarville. He
moved to the Veterans Home in 2002.
He was a member of
the
Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson and the Thompson V.F.W. Post. He served on the Winnebago County
Extension Board. He enjoyed reading, politics and
music. His Christian faith was the most important
thing to him throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife
in 1999; son-in-law, Aaron Rognehaugh; brother, Rev.
Everett Nelson; sisters, Ruth Lonnevik and Pearl Nelson
(at birth); and brothers-in-law, Roy Larson, Russell
Lonnevik, Alfred Meyer and Gerald Peterson.
He is survived by
his children, Norrine (James) Heesch
of Seymour, Iowa, Gerald (Cynthia Matson) Nelson of
Kiester, Minnesota, Tim (Linda) Nelson of Huntington Beach,
California, Helen (Michel) Coumes of Longmont, Colorado and Arlyn
(Kris) Nelson of Fergus Falls; brothers, Rev. Clifford
(Elnor) Nelson of St. Cloud, Minnesota and Rueben (Ellie)
Nelson of Belmond; sisters, Mildred Meyer of Toledo, Ohio
and Esther Larson of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota;
brothers-in-law, John (Marilyn) Peterson of Apple
Valley, Minnesota and Paul (Shirley) Peterson of Kenyon, Minnesota;
and sisters-in-law, Clara Nelson of Dent, Minnesota and Lyla
(James) Fulgelberg of Shell Lake, Wisconsin.

Christina L. Olsen
May 2, 2006
Christina L. Olsen, 88, a long time Klemme resident,
died on Thursday, April 27, 2006, at the Belmond Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 1, at the Klemme United
Methodist Church, with Rev. Paddy Druhl officiating.
Burial was in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.
Christina Louise, the daughter of Pearl and Celia
(Bergman) Schwartz, was born on January 4, 1918, on her
parents farm in Titonka. She attended school in
Wesley until moving to Klemme in 1929 with her family.
She married Melvin Olson on February 27, 1937 and they
had sons, Merlyn and Roger. She later married Arlin
Olsen on July 6, 1946 and they had sons, Harland and
Randy and daughter, Corrine (Susie). They resided in
the Clear Lake-Ventura area before moving back to
Klemme.
Christina was a homemaker, devoted wife, and
business partner with Arlin. In addition to providing
a warm and nurturing home for her family, Christina
was employed in a variety of occupations. She worked
as a housekeeper and at numerous restaurants including
Gerardi's Cafe, Duke's Cafe, Soft Spot, and Slippery
Elm Golf Course, all in Klemme. She drove a school bus
beginning in 1973 and helped Arlin drive truck. She
was an excellent seamstress.
Christina enjoyed gardening and collecting bells
and salt and pepper shakers. She loved garage sales
and was always ready for a sip of tea and a good
visit. Her children and grandchildren remember her
pies and other baking and canning. She was an avid
collector of news articles and announcements in area
newspapers, sharing details about the lives of those
she knew. She was especially fond of cats.
Christina was active in the United Methodist
Church, where she was a member of the Miriam Circle for
over 50 years and the UMW. She belonged to the Klemme
American Legion Auxiliary for 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arlin in 2005; son, Roger in 1997; brothers, Herbert and
Harold Schwartz; and an infant sister.
Survivors include
her sons, Merlyn (Audrey) Olson of
Santa Maria, California, Harland (Janet) Olsen of Mason City
and Randy (Monica) Olsen of Garner; her daughter,
Corrine (Susie) Olsen of Klemme; daughter-in-law, Linda
Olson of Ventura; sister, Caroline (Kenneth) Kluckhohn
of Klemme; sister-in-law, Jean Schwartz of Belmond;
grandchildren, Doni (Bill) Schaefer, Denette Olson,
DeAnne (Mike) Luis, Dan (Eenja) Olson, Greg (Kim)
Olson, Ryan (Tina) Olsen, Shannon (Gary) Graves, Jim
Olsen and Jenn Olsen; and great-grandchildren, Will,
Sarah and Evan Schaefer, Lane, Levi and Aubrey Luis,
Jacob, Daniel and Nicole Olson, Zachary and Caitlin
Olson, Riley and Wyatt Olsen, and Alex, Bailey and
Maria Graves.

Lucille G. Cramer
May 9, 2006
Lucille G. Cramer, 88, a life long
resident of Belmond, died on Saturday, April 29, 2006,
at the Belmond Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held
on Thursday, May 4, at the Andrews Funeral Home in
Belmond, with Rev. Michael Druhl of the Belmond United
Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the
Belmond Cemetery.
Lucille Glenavon,
was born on January 28, 1918 in Belmond, the daughter
of Charles and Pauline (Christopherson) Cramer. She
was baptized at the Methodist Church and graduated
from the Belmond High School in 1937.
Lucille began
working at First State Bank in November 1951 and
retired in November 1980. Shortly after that she moved
to the Belmond Community Apartments, and then the care
center in December 2003.
Lucille was a
devoted and faithful servant to her family, friends
and customers. She cared for her mother, her sister,
Freda and helped her brother, Soupy care for his wife,
Marion. She was quiet, kind and considerate of others.
She enjoyed visiting and eating out with family and
friends.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; brother, Wallace (Soupy); and
sisters, Mabel, Annie, Freda, Nellia and Pearl.
Survivors include
six nieces and two nephews.
